CVE-2007-0004

Summary

Rejected At-
Credits

The NFS client implementation in the kernel in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 3, when a filesystem is mounted with the noacl option, checks permissions for the open system call via vfs_permission (mode bits) data rather than an NFS ACCESS call to the server, which allows local client processes to obtain a false success status from open calls that the server would deny, and possibly obtain sensitive information about file permissions on the server, as demonstrated in a root_squash environment. NOTE: it is uncertain whether any scenarios involving this issue cross privilege boundaries.

The VNC server implementation in QEMU, as used by Xen and possibly other environments, allows local users of a guest operating system to read arbitrary files on the host operating system via unspecified vectors related to QEMU monitor mode, as demonstrated by mapping files to a CDROM device. It was discovered that EAP packages in certain versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux use incorrect permissions for /etc/sysconfig/jbossas configuration files. The file is writable to jboss group (root:jboss, 664). On systems using classic /etc/init.d init scripts (i.e. on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and earlier), the file is sourced by the jboss init script and its content executed with root privileges when jboss service is started, stopped, or restarted.
