snapd could be made to bypass intended access restrictions through snap content interfaces and layout paths

snapd 2.54.2 fails to perform sufficient validation of snap content interface and layout paths, resulting in the ability for snaps to inject arbitrary AppArmor policy rules via malformed content interface and layout declarations and hence escape strict snap confinement. Fixed in snapd versions 2.54.3+18.04, 2.54.3+20.04 and 2.54.3+21.10.1

A flaw was found in the crypto subsystem of the Linux kernel before version kernel-4.15-rc4. The "null skcipher" was being dropped when each af_alg_ctx was freed instead of when the aead_tfm was freed. This can cause the null skcipher to be freed while it is still in use leading to a local user being able to crash the system or possibly escalate privileges.

Linux kernel eBPF bitwise ops ALU32 bounds tracking

The eBPF ALU32 bounds tracking for bitwise ops (AND, OR and XOR) in the Linux kernel did not properly update 32-bit bounds, which could be turned into out of bounds reads and writes in the Linux kernel and therefore, arbitrary code execution. This issue was fixed via commit 049c4e13714e ("bpf: Fix alu32 const subreg bound tracking on bitwise operations") (v5.13-rc4) and backported to the stable kernels in v5.12.4, v5.11.21, and v5.10.37. The AND/OR issues were introduced by commit 3f50f132d840 ("bpf: Verifier, do explicit ALU32 bounds tracking") (5.7-rc1) and the XOR variant was introduced by 2921c90d4718 ("bpf:Fix a verifier failure with xor") ( 5.10-rc1).

The cookie feature in the packet action API implementation in net/sched/act_api.c in the Linux kernel 4.11.x through 4.11-rc7 mishandles the tb nlattr array, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (uninitialized memory access and refcount underflow, and system hang or crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via "tc filter add" commands in certain contexts. NOTE: this does not affect stable kernels, such as 4.10.x, from kernel.org.

An issue was discovered in net/ipv6/ip6mr.c in the Linux kernel before 4.11. By setting a specific socket option, an attacker can control a pointer in kernel land and cause an inet_csk_listen_stop general protection fault, or potentially execute arbitrary code under certain circumstances. The issue can be triggered as root (e.g., inside a default LXC container or with the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability) or after namespace unsharing. This occurs because sk_type and protocol are not checked in the appropriate part of the ip6_mroute_* functions. NOTE: this affects Linux distributions that use 4.9.x longterm kernels before 4.9.187.

The Salsa20 encryption algorithm in the Linux kernel before 4.14.8 does not correctly handle zero-length inputs, allowing a local attacker able to use the AF_ALG-based skcipher interface (CONFIG_CRYPTO_USER_API_SKCIPHER) to cause a denial of service (uninitialized-memory free and kernel crash) or have unspecified other impact by executing a crafted sequence of system calls that use the blkcipher_walk API. Both the generic implementation (crypto/salsa20_generic.c) and x86 implementation (arch/x86/crypto/salsa20_glue.c) of Salsa20 were vulnerable.

There is a vulnerability in the linux kernel versions higher than 5.2 (if kernel compiled with config params CONFIG_BPF_SYSCALL=y , CONFIG_BPF=y , CONFIG_CGROUPS=y , CONFIG_CGROUP_BPF=y , CONFIG_HARDENED_USERCOPY not set, and BPF hook to getsockopt is registered). As result of BPF execution, the local user can trigger bug in __cgroup_bpf_run_filter_getsockopt() function that can lead to heap overflow (because of non-hardened usercopy). The impact of attack could be deny of service or possibly privileges escalation.

The ABI in the Linux kernel 2.6.28 and earlier on s390, powerpc, sparc64, and mips 64-bit platforms requires that a 32-bit argument in a 64-bit register was properly sign extended when sent from a user-mode application, but cannot verify this, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (crash) or possibly gain privileges via a crafted system call.

net: nfc: Fix use-after-free in local_cleanup()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: nfc: Fix use-after-free in local_cleanup() Fix a use-after-free that occurs in kfree_skb() called from local_cleanup(). This could happen when killing nfc daemon (e.g. neard) after detaching an nfc device. When detaching an nfc device, local_cleanup() called from nfc_llcp_unregister_device() frees local->rx_pending and decreases local->ref by kref_put() in nfc_llcp_local_put(). In the terminating process, nfc daemon releases all sockets and it leads to decreasing local->ref. After the last release of local->ref, local_cleanup() called from local_release() frees local->rx_pending again, which leads to the bug. Setting local->rx_pending to NULL in local_cleanup() could prevent use-after-free when local_cleanup() is called twice. Found by a modified version of syzkaller. RDMA/mlx5: Return the firmware result upon destroying QP/RQ

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/mlx5: Return the firmware result upon destroying QP/RQ Previously when destroying a QP/RQ, the result of the firmware destruction function was ignored and upper layers weren't informed about the failure. Which in turn could lead to various problems since when upper layer isn't aware of the failure it continues its operation thinking that the related QP/RQ was successfully destroyed while it actually wasn't, which could lead to the below kernel WARN. Currently, we return the correct firmware destruction status to upper layers which in case of the RQ would be mlx5_ib_destroy_wq() which was already capable of handling RQ destruction failure or in case of a QP to destroy_qp_common(), which now would actually warn upon qp destruction failure. net/mlx5e: fix a potential double-free in fs_any_create_groups

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/mlx5e: fix a potential double-free in fs_any_create_groups When kcalloc() for ft->g succeeds but kvzalloc() for in fails, fs_any_create_groups() will free ft->g. However, its caller fs_any_create_table() will free ft->g again through calling mlx5e_destroy_flow_table(), which will lead to a double-free. Fix this by setting ft->g to NULL in fs_any_create_groups().

ice: copy last block omitted in ice_get_module_eeprom()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ice: copy last block omitted in ice_get_module_eeprom() ice_get_module_eeprom() is broken since commit e9c9692c8a81 ("ice: Reimplement module reads used by ethtool") In this refactor, ice_get_module_eeprom() reads the eeprom in blocks of size 8. But the condition that should protect the buffer overflow ignores the last block. The last block always contains zeros. Bug uncovered by ethtool upstream commit 9538f384b535 ("netlink: eeprom: Defer page requests to individual parsers") After this commit, ethtool reads a block with length = 1; to read the SFF-8024 identifier value. unpatched driver: $ ethtool -m enp65s0f0np0 offset 0x90 length 8 Offset Values ------ ------ 0x0090: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 $ ethtool -m enp65s0f0np0 offset 0x90 length 12 Offset Values ------ ------ 0x0090: 00 00 01 a0 4d 65 6c 6c 00 00 00 00 $ $ ethtool -m enp65s0f0np0 Offset Values ------ ------ 0x0000: 11 06 06 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 0x0010: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 0x0020: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 0x0030: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 0x0040: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 0x0050: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 0x0060: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 08 00 0x0070: 00 10 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 patched driver: $ ethtool -m enp65s0f0np0 offset 0x90 length 8 Offset Values ------ ------ 0x0090: 00 00 01 a0 4d 65 6c 6c $ ethtool -m enp65s0f0np0 offset 0x90 length 12 Offset Values ------ ------ 0x0090: 00 00 01 a0 4d 65 6c 6c 61 6e 6f 78 $ ethtool -m enp65s0f0np0 Identifier : 0x11 (QSFP28) Extended identifier : 0x00 Extended identifier description : 1.5W max. wifi: ath11k: fix gtk offload status event locking

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: ath11k: fix gtk offload status event locking The ath11k active pdevs are protected by RCU but the gtk offload status event handling code calling ath11k_mac_get_arvif_by_vdev_id() was not marked as a read-side critical section. Mark the code in question as an RCU read-side critical section to avoid any potential use-after-free issues. Compile tested only.

ocfs2: fix data corruption after failed write

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ocfs2: fix data corruption after failed write When buffered write fails to copy data into underlying page cache page, ocfs2_write_end_nolock() just zeroes out and dirties the page. This can leave dirty page beyond EOF and if page writeback tries to write this page before write succeeds and expands i_size, page gets into inconsistent state where page dirty bit is clear but buffer dirty bits stay set resulting in page data never getting written and so data copied to the page is lost. Fix the problem by invalidating page beyond EOF after failed write.

cpufreq: davinci: Fix clk use after free

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cpufreq: davinci: Fix clk use after free The remove function first frees the clks and only then calls cpufreq_unregister_driver(). If one of the cpufreq callbacks is called just before cpufreq_unregister_driver() is run, the freed clks might be used.

net: atlantic: eliminate double free in error handling logic

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: atlantic: eliminate double free in error handling logic Driver has a logic leak in ring data allocation/free, where aq_ring_free could be called multiple times on same ring, if system is under stress and got memory allocation error. Ring pointer was used as an indicator of failure, but this is not correct since only ring data is allocated/deallocated. Ring itself is an array member. Changing ring allocation functions to return error code directly. This simplifies error handling and eliminates aq_ring_free on higher layer.
