Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) via Unsanitized Topology Metadata in Apache Storm UI Versions Affected: before 2.8.6 Description: The Storm UI visualization component interpolates topology metadata including component IDs, stream names, and grouping values directly into HTML via innerHTML in parseNode() and parseEdge() without sanitization at any layer. An authenticated user with topology submission rights could craft a topology containing malicious HTML/JavaScript in component identifiers (e.g., a bolt ID containing an onerror event handler). This payload flows through Nimbus → Thrift → the Visualization API → vis.js tooltip rendering, resulting in stored cross-site scripting. In multi-tenant deployments where topology submission is available to less-trusted users but the UI is accessed by operators or administrators, this enables privilege escalation through script execution in an admin's browser session. Mitigation: 2.x users should upgrade to 2.8.6. Users who cannot upgrade immediately should monkey-patch the parseNode() and parseEdge() functions in the visualization JavaScript file to HTML-escape all API-supplied values including nodeId, :capacity, :latency, :component, :stream, and :grouping before interpolation into tooltip HTML strings, and should additionally restrict topology submission to trusted users via Nimbus ACLs as a defense-in-depth measure. A guide on how to do this is available in the release notes of 2.8.6. Credit: This issue was discovered while investigating another report by K.

Wagtail is an open source content management system built on Django. A cross-site scripting vulnerability exists in versions 2.13-2.13.1, versions 2.12-2.12.4, and versions prior to 2.11.8. When the `{% include_block %}` template tag is used to output the value of a plain-text StreamField block (`CharBlock`, `TextBlock` or a similar user-defined block derived from `FieldBlock`), and that block does not specify a template for rendering, the tag output is not properly escaped as HTML. This could allow users to insert arbitrary HTML or scripting. This vulnerability is only exploitable by users with the ability to author StreamField content (i.e. users with 'editor' access to the Wagtail admin). Patched versions have been released as Wagtail 2.11.8 (for the LTS 2.11 branch), Wagtail 2.12.5, and Wagtail 2.13.2 (for the current 2.13 branch). As a workaround, site implementors who are unable to upgrade to a current supported version should audit their use of `{% include_block %}` to ensure it is not used to output `CharBlock` / `TextBlock` values with no associated template. Note that this only applies where `{% include_block %}` is used directly on that block (uses of `include_block` on a block _containing_ a CharBlock / TextBlock, such as a StructBlock, are unaffected). In these cases, the tag can be replaced with Django's `{{ ... }}` syntax - e.g. `{% include_block my_title_block %}` becomes `{{ my_title_block }}`.

lichess.org is the forever free, adless and open source chess server. Any approved streamer can inject arbitrary HTML into /streamer and the homepage “Live streams” widget by placing markup in their Twitch/YouTube stream title. CSP is present and blocks inline script execution, but the issue is still a server-side HTML injection sink. To trigger this, a Lichess account only needs to satisfy the normal streamer requirements and get approved. Per Streamer.canApply, that means an account older than 2 days with at least 15 games, or a verified/titled account. After moderator approval, once the streamer goes live, Lichess pulls the platform title and renders it into the UI as-is. No extra privileges are needed beyond a normal approved streamer profile. This vulnerability is fixed with commit 0d5002696ae705e1888bf77de107c73de57bb1b3.

LORIS (Longitudinal Online Research and Imaging System) is a self-hosted web application that provides data- and project-management for neuroimaging research. From 15.10 to before 27.0.3 and 28.0.1, there is a potential for a cross-site scripting attack in the survey_accounts module if a user provides an invalid visit label. While the data is properly JSON encoded, the Content-Type header is not set causing the web browser to interpret the payload as HTML, opening the possibility of a cross-site scripting if a user is tricked into following an invalid link. This vulnerability is fixed in 27.0.3 and 28.0.1.
