gpiolib: Fix crash on error in gpiochip_get_ngpios()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: gpiolib: Fix crash on error in gpiochip_get_ngpios() The gpiochip_get_ngpios() uses chip_*() macros to print messages. However these macros rely on gpiodev to be initialised and set, which is not the case when called via bgpio_init(). In such a case the printing messages will crash on NULL pointer dereference. Replace chip_*() macros by the respective dev_*() ones to avoid such crash.

KVM: x86: Reject Hyper-V's SEND_IPI hypercalls if local APIC isn't in-kernel

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: x86: Reject Hyper-V's SEND_IPI hypercalls if local APIC isn't in-kernel Advertise support for Hyper-V's SEND_IPI and SEND_IPI_EX hypercalls if and only if the local API is emulated/virtualized by KVM, and explicitly reject said hypercalls if the local APIC is emulated in userspace, i.e. don't rely on userspace to opt-in to KVM_CAP_HYPERV_ENFORCE_CPUID. Rejecting SEND_IPI and SEND_IPI_EX fixes a NULL-pointer dereference if Hyper-V enlightenments are exposed to the guest without an in-kernel local APIC: dump_stack+0xbe/0xfd __kasan_report.cold+0x34/0x84 kasan_report+0x3a/0x50 __apic_accept_irq+0x3a/0x5c0 kvm_hv_send_ipi.isra.0+0x34e/0x820 kvm_hv_hypercall+0x8d9/0x9d0 kvm_emulate_hypercall+0x506/0x7e0 __vmx_handle_exit+0x283/0xb60 vmx_handle_exit+0x1d/0xd0 vcpu_enter_guest+0x16b0/0x24c0 vcpu_run+0xc0/0x550 kvm_arch_vcpu_ioctl_run+0x170/0x6d0 kvm_vcpu_ioctl+0x413/0xb20 __se_sys_ioctl+0x111/0x160 do_syscal1_64+0x30/0x40 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x67/0xd1 Note, checking the sending vCPU is sufficient, as the per-VM irqchip_mode can't be modified after vCPUs are created, i.e. if one vCPU has an in-kernel local APIC, then all vCPUs have an in-kernel local APIC.

sctp: sysctl: auth_enable: avoid using current->nsproxy

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sctp: sysctl: auth_enable: avoid using current->nsproxy As mentioned in a previous commit of this series, using the 'net' structure via 'current' is not recommended for different reasons: - Inconsistency: getting info from the reader's/writer's netns vs only from the opener's netns. - current->nsproxy can be NULL in some cases, resulting in an 'Oops' (null-ptr-deref), e.g. when the current task is exiting, as spotted by syzbot [1] using acct(2). The 'net' structure can be obtained from the table->data using container_of(). Note that table->data could also be used directly, but that would increase the size of this fix, while 'sctp.ctl_sock' still needs to be retrieved from 'net' structure.

drm/xe/hmm: Don't dereference struct page pointers without notifier lock

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/xe/hmm: Don't dereference struct page pointers without notifier lock The pnfs that we obtain from hmm_range_fault() point to pages that we don't have a reference on, and the guarantee that they are still in the cpu page-tables is that the notifier lock must be held and the notifier seqno is still valid. So while building the sg table and marking the pages accesses / dirty we need to hold this lock with a validated seqno. However, the lock is reclaim tainted which makes sg_alloc_table_from_pages_segment() unusable, since it internally allocates memory. Instead build the sg-table manually. For the non-iommu case this might lead to fewer coalesces, but if that's a problem it can be fixed up later in the resource cursor code. For the iommu case, the whole sg-table may still be coalesced to a single contigous device va region. This avoids marking pages that we don't own dirty and accessed, and it also avoid dereferencing struct pages that we don't own. v2: - Use assert to check whether hmm pfns are valid (Matthew Auld) - Take into account that large pages may cross range boundaries (Matthew Auld) v3: - Don't unnecessarily check for a non-freed sg-table. (Matthew Auld) - Add a missing up_read() in an error path. (Matthew Auld) (cherry picked from commit ea3e66d280ce2576664a862693d1da8fd324c317)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: w1: fix NULL pointer dereference in probe The w1_uart_probe() function calls w1_uart_serdev_open() (which includes devm_serdev_device_open()) before setting the client ops via serdev_device_set_client_ops(). This ordering can trigger a NULL pointer dereference in the serdev controller's receive_buf handler, as it assumes serdev->ops is valid when SERPORT_ACTIVE is set. This is similar to the issue fixed in commit 5e700b384ec1 ("platform/chrome: cros_ec_uart: properly fix race condition") where devm_serdev_device_open() was called before fully initializing the device. Fix the race by ensuring client ops are set before enabling the port via w1_uart_serdev_open().

vsock: prevent null-ptr-deref in vsock_*[has_data|has_space]

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vsock: prevent null-ptr-deref in vsock_*[has_data|has_space] Recent reports have shown how we sometimes call vsock_*_has_data() when a vsock socket has been de-assigned from a transport (see attached links), but we shouldn't. Previous commits should have solved the real problems, but we may have more in the future, so to avoid null-ptr-deref, we can return 0 (no space, no data available) but with a warning. This way the code should continue to run in a nearly consistent state and have a warning that allows us to debug future problems.

wifi: mt76: mt7921: fix kernel panic due to null pointer dereference

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: mt76: mt7921: fix kernel panic due to null pointer dereference Address a kernel panic caused by a null pointer dereference in the `mt792x_rx_get_wcid` function. The issue arises because the `deflink` structure is not properly initialized with the `sta` context. Then it triggered a scrub, but since scrub relies on extent tree to find where the data/metadata extents are, scrub_find_fill_first_stripe() relies on an non-empty extent root. But unfortunately scrub_find_fill_first_stripe() doesn't really expect an NULL pointer for extent root, it use extent_root to grab fs_info and triggered a NULL pointer dereference. [FIX] Add an extra check for a valid extent root at the beginning of scrub_find_fill_first_stripe(). The new error path is introduced by 42437a6386ff ("btrfs: introduce mount option rescue=ignorebadroots"), but that's pretty old, and later commit b979547513ff ("btrfs: scrub: introduce helper to find and fill sector info for a scrub_stripe") changed how we do scrub. So for kernels older than 6.6, the fix will need manual backport.

can: etas_es58x: fix potential NULL pointer dereference on udev->serial

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: can: etas_es58x: fix potential NULL pointer dereference on udev->serial The driver assumed that es58x_dev->udev->serial could never be NULL. While this is true on commercially available devices, an attacker could spoof the device identity providing a NULL USB serial number. That would trigger a NULL pointer dereference. Add a check on es58x_dev->udev->serial before accessing it.

driver core: class: Fix wild pointer dereferences in API class_dev_iter_next()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: driver core: class: Fix wild pointer dereferences in API class_dev_iter_next() There are a potential wild pointer dereferences issue regarding APIs class_dev_iter_(init|next|exit)(), as explained by below typical usage: // All members of @iter are wild pointers. struct class_dev_iter iter; // class_dev_iter_init(@iter, @class, ...) checks parameter @class for // potential class_to_subsys() error, and it returns void type and does // not initialize its output parameter @iter, so caller can not detect // the error and continues to invoke class_dev_iter_next(@iter) even if // @iter still contains wild pointers. class_dev_iter_init(&iter, ...); // Dereference these wild pointers in @iter here once suffer the error. while (dev = class_dev_iter_next(&iter)) { ... }; // Also dereference these wild pointers here. class_dev_iter_exit(&iter); Actually, all callers of these APIs have such usage pattern in kernel tree. Fix by: - Initialize output parameter @iter by memset() in class_dev_iter_init() and give callers prompt by pr_crit() for the error. - Check if @iter is valid in class_dev_iter_next().

sctp: sysctl: plpmtud_probe_interval: avoid using current->nsproxy

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sctp: sysctl: plpmtud_probe_interval: avoid using current->nsproxy As mentioned in a previous commit of this series, using the 'net' structure via 'current' is not recommended for different reasons: - Inconsistency: getting info from the reader's/writer's netns vs only from the opener's netns. - current->nsproxy can be NULL in some cases, resulting in an 'Oops' (null-ptr-deref), e.g. when the current task is exiting, as spotted by syzbot [1] using acct(2). The 'net' structure can be obtained from the table->data using container_of(). Note that table->data could also be used directly, as this is the only member needed from the 'net' structure, but that would increase the size of this fix, to use '*data' everywhere 'net->sctp.probe_interval' is used.

arm64: Don't call NULL in do_compat_alignment_fixup()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: arm64: Don't call NULL in do_compat_alignment_fixup() do_alignment_t32_to_handler() only fixes up alignment faults for specific instructions; it returns NULL otherwise (e.g. LDREX). drm/xe: Fix tlb invalidation when wedging

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/xe: Fix tlb invalidation when wedging If GuC fails to load, the driver wedges, but in the process it tries to do stuff that may not be initialized yet. This moves the xe_gt_tlb_invalidation_init() to be done earlier: as its own doc says, it's a software-only initialization and should had been named with the _early() suffix. sctp: sysctl: cookie_hmac_alg: avoid using current->nsproxy

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sctp: sysctl: cookie_hmac_alg: avoid using current->nsproxy As mentioned in a previous commit of this series, using the 'net' structure via 'current' is not recommended for different reasons: - Inconsistency: getting info from the reader's/writer's netns vs only from the opener's netns. - current->nsproxy can be NULL in some cases, resulting in an 'Oops' (null-ptr-deref), e.g. when the current task is exiting, as spotted by syzbot [1] using acct(2). The 'net' structure can be obtained from the table->data using container_of(). Note that table->data could also be used directly, as this is the only member needed from the 'net' structure, but that would increase the size of this fix, to use '*data' everywhere 'net->sctp.sctp_hmac_alg' is used.

net: Add rx_skb of kfree_skb to raw_tp_null_args[].

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: Add rx_skb of kfree_skb to raw_tp_null_args[]. Yan Zhai reported a BPF prog could trigger a null-ptr-deref [0] in trace_kfree_skb if the prog does not check if rx_sk is NULL. Commit c53795d48ee8 ("net: add rx_sk to trace_kfree_skb") added rx_sk to trace_kfree_skb, but rx_sk is optional and could be NULL. Let's add kfree_skb to raw_tp_null_args[] to let the BPF verifier validate such a prog and prevent the issue. Now we fail to load such a prog: libbpf: prog 'drop': -- BEGIN PROG LOAD LOG -- 0: R1=ctx() R10=fp0 ; int BPF_PROG(drop, struct sk_buff *skb, void *location, @ kfree_skb_sk_null.bpf.c:21 0: (79) r3 = *(u64 *)(r1 +24) func 'kfree_skb' arg3 has btf_id 5253 type STRUCT 'sock' 1: R1=ctx() R3_w=trusted_ptr_or_null_sock(id=1) ; bpf_printk("sk: %d, %d\n", sk, sk->__sk_common.skc_family); @ kfree_skb_sk_null.bpf.c:24 1: (69) r4 = *(u16 *)(r3 +16) R3 invalid mem access 'trusted_ptr_or_null_' processed 2 insns (limit 1000000) max_states_per_insn 0 total_states 0 peak_states 0 mark_read 0 -- END PROG LOAD LOG -- Note this fix requires commit 838a10bd2ebf ("bpf: Augment raw_tp arguments with PTR_MAYBE_NULL"). netlabel: Fix NULL pointer exception caused by CALIPSO on IPv4 sockets

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netlabel: Fix NULL pointer exception caused by CALIPSO on IPv4 sockets When calling netlbl_conn_setattr(), addr->sa_family is used to determine the function behavior. If sk is an IPv4 socket, but the connect function is called with an IPv6 address, the function calipso_sock_setattr() is triggered. Inside this function, the following code is executed: sk_fullsock(__sk) ? inet_sk(__sk)->pinet6 : NULL; Since sk is an IPv4 socket, pinet6 is NULL, leading to a null pointer dereference. This patch fixes the issue by checking if inet6_sk(sk) returns a NULL pointer before accessing pinet6.

sockmap, vsock: For connectible sockets allow only connected

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sockmap, vsock: For connectible sockets allow only connected sockmap expects all vsocks to have a transport assigned, which is expressed in vsock_proto::psock_update_sk_prot(). However, there is an edge case where an unconnected (connectible) socket may lose its previously assigned transport. This is handled with a NULL check in the vsock/BPF recv path. Another design detail is that listening vsocks are not supposed to have any transport assigned at all. Which implies they are not supported by the sockmap. But this is complicated by the fact that a socket, before switching to TCP_LISTEN, may have had some transport assigned during a failed connect() attempt. Hence, we may end up with a listening vsock in a sockmap, which blows up quickly: KASAN: null-ptr-deref in range [0x0000000000000120-0x0000000000000127] CPU: 7 UID: 0 PID: 56 Comm: kworker/7:0 Not tainted 6.14.0-rc1+ Workqueue: vsock-loopback vsock_loopback_work RIP: 0010:vsock_read_skb+0x4b/0x90 Call Trace: sk_psock_verdict_data_ready+0xa4/0x2e0 virtio_transport_recv_pkt+0x1ca8/0x2acc vsock_loopback_work+0x27d/0x3f0 process_one_work+0x846/0x1420 worker_thread+0x5b3/0xf80 kthread+0x35a/0x700 ret_from_fork+0x2d/0x70 ret_from_fork_asm+0x1a/0x30 For connectible sockets, instead of relying solely on the state of vsk->transport, tell sockmap to only allow those representing established connections. net/mlx5: Bridge, fix the crash caused by LAG state check

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/mlx5: Bridge, fix the crash caused by LAG state check When removing LAG device from bridge, NETDEV_CHANGEUPPER event is triggered. Driver finds the lower devices (PFs) to flush all the offloaded entries. And mlx5_lag_is_shared_fdb is checked, it returns false if one of PF is unloaded. In such case, mlx5_esw_bridge_lag_rep_get() and its caller return NULL, instead of the alive PF, and the flush is skipped. Besides, the bridge fdb entry's lastuse is updated in mlx5 bridge event handler. But this SWITCHDEV_FDB_ADD_TO_BRIDGE event can be ignored in this case because the upper interface for bond is deleted, and the entry will never be aged because lastuse is never updated. To make things worse, as the entry is alive, mlx5 bridge workqueue keeps sending that event, which is then handled by kernel bridge notifier. It causes the following crash when accessing the passed bond netdev which is already destroyed. To fix this issue, remove such checks. LAG state is already checked in commit 15f8f168952f ("net/mlx5: Bridge, verify LAG state when adding bond to bridge"), driver still need to skip offload if LAG becomes invalid state after initialization. scsi: core: Fix bad pointer dereference when ehandler kthread is invalid

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: core: Fix bad pointer dereference when ehandler kthread is invalid Commit 66a834d09293 ("scsi: core: Fix error handling of scsi_host_alloc()") changed the allocation logic to call put_device() to perform host cleanup with the assumption that IDA removal and stopping the kthread would properly be performed in scsi_host_dev_release(). However, in the unlikely case that the error handler thread fails to spawn, shost->ehandler is set to ERR_PTR(-ENOMEM). The error handler cleanup code in scsi_host_dev_release() will call kthread_stop() if shost->ehandler != NULL which will always be the case whether the kthread was successfully spawned or not. In the case that it failed to spawn this has the nasty side effect of trying to dereference an invalid pointer when kthread_stop() is called. The following splat provides an example of this behavior in the wild: scsi host11: error handler thread failed to spawn, error = -4 Kernel attempted to read user page (10c) - exploit attempt? net: nexthop: fix null pointer dereference when IPv6 is not enabled

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: nexthop: fix null pointer dereference when IPv6 is not enabled When we try to add an IPv6 nexthop and IPv6 is not enabled (!CONFIG_IPV6) we'll hit a NULL pointer dereference[1] in the error path of nh_create_ipv6() due to calling ipv6_stub->fib6_nh_release. The bug has been present since the beginning of IPv6 nexthop gateway support. Commit 1aefd3de7bc6 ("ipv6: Add fib6_nh_init and release to stubs") tells us that only fib6_nh_init has a dummy stub because fib6_nh_release should not be called if fib6_nh_init returns an error, but the commit below added a call to ipv6_stub->fib6_nh_release in its error path. To fix it return the dummy stub's -EAFNOSUPPORT error directly without calling ipv6_stub->fib6_nh_release in nh_create_ipv6()'s error path. soc: qcom: rpmpd: Check for null return of devm_kcalloc

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: soc: qcom: rpmpd: Check for null return of devm_kcalloc Because of the possible failure of the allocation, data->domains might be NULL pointer and will cause the dereference of the NULL pointer later. Therefore, it might be better to check it and directly return -ENOMEM without releasing data manually if fails, because the comment of the devm_kmalloc() says "Memory allocated with this function is automatically freed on driver detach.".

ACPI: fix NULL pointer dereference

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ACPI: fix NULL pointer dereference Commit 71f642833284 ("ACPI: utils: Fix reference counting in for_each_acpi_dev_match()") started doing "acpi_dev_put()" on a pointer that was possibly NULL. That fails miserably, because that helper inline function is not set up to handle that case. Just make acpi_dev_put() silently accept a NULL pointer, rather than calling down to put_device() with an invalid offset off that NULL pointer.

video: fbdev: smscufx: Fix null-ptr-deref in ufx_usb_probe()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: video: fbdev: smscufx: Fix null-ptr-deref in ufx_usb_probe() I got a null-ptr-deref report: BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000000 ... nfsd: fix NULL dereference in nfs3svc_encode_getaclres

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfsd: fix NULL dereference in nfs3svc_encode_getaclres In error cases the dentry may be NULL. Before 20798dfe249a, the encoder also checked dentry and d_really_is_positive(dentry), but that looks like overkill to me--zero status should be enough to guarantee a positive dentry. This isn't the first time we've seen an error-case NULL dereference hidden in the initialization of a local variable in an xdr encoder. But I went back through the other recent rewrites and didn't spot any similar bugs.

NFS: Fix a potential NULL dereference in nfs_get_client()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: NFS: Fix a potential NULL dereference in nfs_get_client() None of the callers are expecting NULL returns from nfs_get_client() so this code will lead to an Oops. It's better to return an error pointer. I expect that this is dead code so hopefully no one is affected.
