gfs2: fix use-after-free in gfs2_qd_dealloc

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: gfs2: fix use-after-free in gfs2_qd_dealloc gfs2_qd_dealloc(), called as an RCU callback from gfs2_qd_dispose(), accesses the superblock object sdp through qd->qd_sbd after freeing qd. It does so to decrement sd_quota_count and wake up sd_kill_wait. However, by the time the RCU callback runs, gfs2_put_super() may have already freed sdp via free_sbd(). This can happen when gfs2_quota_cleanup() is called during unmount: it disposes of quota objects via call_rcu() and then waits on sd_kill_wait with a 60-second timeout. If the timeout expires, or if gfs2_gl_hash_clear() triggers additional qd_put() calls that schedule more RCU callbacks after the wait completes, gfs2_put_super() will proceed to free the superblock while RCU callbacks referencing it are still pending. Add an rcu_barrier() before free_sbd() in gfs2_put_super() to ensure all pending RCU callbacks (including gfs2_qd_dealloc) have completed before the superblock is freed.

ath9k: fix use-after-free in ath9k_hif_usb_rx_cb

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ath9k: fix use-after-free in ath9k_hif_usb_rx_cb Syzbot reported use-after-free Read in ath9k_hif_usb_rx_cb() [0]. The problem was in incorrect htc_handle->drv_priv initialization. Probable call trace which can trigger use-after-free: ath9k_htc_probe_device() /* htc_handle->drv_priv = priv; */ ath9k_htc_wait_for_target() <--- Failed ieee80211_free_hw() <--- priv pointer is freed <IRQ> ... ath9k_hif_usb_rx_cb() ath9k_hif_usb_rx_stream() RX_STAT_INC() <--- htc_handle->drv_priv access In order to not add fancy protection for drv_priv we can move htc_handle->drv_priv initialization at the end of the ath9k_htc_probe_device() and add helper macro to make all *_STAT_* macros NULL safe, since syzbot has reported related NULL deref in that macros [1]

drm/nouveau: fix a use-after-free in nouveau_gem_prime_import_sg_table()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/nouveau: fix a use-after-free in nouveau_gem_prime_import_sg_table() nouveau_bo_init() is backed by ttm_bo_init() and ferries its return code back to the caller. On failures, ttm will call nouveau_bo_del_ttm() and free the memory.Thus, when nouveau_bo_init() returns an error, the gem object has already been released. Then the call to nouveau_bo_ref() will use the freed "nvbo->bo" and lead to a use-after-free bug. We should delete the call to nouveau_bo_ref() to avoid the use-after-free.

drm/meson: remove drm bridges at aggregate driver unbind time

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/meson: remove drm bridges at aggregate driver unbind time drm bridges added by meson_encoder_hdmi_init and meson_encoder_cvbs_init were not manually removed at module unload time, which caused dangling references to freed memory to remain linked in the global bridge_list. When loading the driver modules back in, the same functions would again call drm_bridge_add, and when traversing the global bridge_list, would end up peeking into freed memory. Once again KASAN revealed the problem: [ +0.000095] ============================================================= [ +0.000008] BUG: KASAN: use-after-free in __list_add_valid+0x9c/0x120 [ +0.000018] Read of size 8 at addr ffff00003da291f0 by task modprobe/2483 [ +0.000018] CPU: 3 PID: 2483 Comm: modprobe Tainted: G C O 5.19.0-rc6-lrmbkasan+ #1 [ +0.000011] Hardware name: Hardkernel ODROID-N2Plus (DT) [ +0.000008] Call trace: [ +0.000006] dump_backtrace+0x1ec/0x280 [ +0.000012] show_stack+0x24/0x80 [ +0.000008] dump_stack_lvl+0x98/0xd4 [ +0.000011] print_address_description.constprop.0+0x80/0x520 [ +0.000011] print_report+0x128/0x260 [ +0.000008] kasan_report+0xb8/0xfc [ +0.000008] __asan_report_load8_noabort+0x3c/0x50 [ +0.000009] __list_add_valid+0x9c/0x120 [ +0.000009] drm_bridge_add+0x6c/0x104 [drm] [ +0.000165] dw_hdmi_probe+0x1900/0x2360 [dw_hdmi] [ +0.000022] meson_dw_hdmi_bind+0x520/0x814 [meson_dw_hdmi] [ +0.000014] component_bind+0x174/0x520 [ +0.000012] component_bind_all+0x1a8/0x38c [ +0.000010] meson_drv_bind_master+0x5e8/0xb74 [meson_drm] [ +0.000032] meson_drv_bind+0x20/0x2c [meson_drm] [ +0.000027] try_to_bring_up_aggregate_device+0x19c/0x390 [ +0.000010] component_master_add_with_match+0x1c8/0x284 [ +0.000009] meson_drv_probe+0x274/0x280 [meson_drm] [ +0.000026] platform_probe+0xd0/0x220 [ +0.000009] really_probe+0x3ac/0xa80 [ +0.000009] __driver_probe_device+0x1f8/0x400 [ +0.000009] driver_probe_device+0x68/0x1b0 [ +0.000009] __driver_attach+0x20c/0x480 [ +0.000008] bus_for_each_dev+0x114/0x1b0 [ +0.000009] driver_attach+0x48/0x64 [ +0.000008] bus_add_driver+0x390/0x564 [ +0.000009] driver_register+0x1a8/0x3e4 [ +0.000009] __platform_driver_register+0x6c/0x94 [ +0.000008] meson_drm_platform_driver_init+0x3c/0x1000 [meson_drm] [ +0.000027] do_one_initcall+0xc4/0x2b0 [ +0.000011] do_init_module+0x154/0x570 [ +0.000011] load_module+0x1a78/0x1ea4 [ +0.000008] __do_sys_init_module+0x184/0x1cc [ +0.000009] __arm64_sys_init_module+0x78/0xb0 [ +0.000009] invoke_syscall+0x74/0x260 [ +0.000009] el0_svc_common.constprop.0+0xcc/0x260 [ +0.000008] do_el0_svc+0x50/0x70 [ +0.000007] el0_svc+0x68/0x1a0 [ +0.000012] el0t_64_sync_handler+0x11c/0x150 [ +0.000008] el0t_64_sync+0x18c/0x190 [ +0.000016] Allocated by task 879: [ +0.000008] kasan_save_stack+0x2c/0x5c [ +0.000011] __kasan_kmalloc+0x90/0xd0 [ +0.000007] __kmalloc+0x278/0x4a0 [ +0.000011] mpi_resize+0x13c/0x1d0 [ +0.000011] mpi_powm+0xd24/0x1570 [ +0.000009] rsa_enc+0x1a4/0x30c [ +0.000009] pkcs1pad_verify+0x3f0/0x580 [ +0.000009] public_key_verify_signature+0x7a8/0xba4 [ +0.000010] public_key_verify_signature_2+0x40/0x60 [ +0.000008] verify_signature+0xb4/0x114 [ +0.000008] pkcs7_validate_trust_one.constprop.0+0x3b8/0x574 [ +0.000009] pkcs7_validate_trust+0xb8/0x15c [ +0.000008] verify_pkcs7_message_sig+0xec/0x1b0 [ +0.000012] verify_pkcs7_signature+0x78/0xac [ +0.000007] mod_verify_sig+0x110/0x190 [ +0.000009] module_sig_check+0x114/0x1e0 [ +0.000009] load_module+0xa0/0x1ea4 [ +0.000008] __do_sys_init_module+0x184/0x1cc [ +0.000008] __arm64_sys_init_module+0x78/0xb0 [ +0.000008] invoke_syscall+0x74/0x260 [ +0.000009] el0_svc_common.constprop.0+0x1a8/0x260 [ +0.000008] do_el0_svc+0x50/0x70 [ +0.000007] el0_svc+0x68/0x1a0 [ +0.000009] el0t_64_sync_handler+0x11c/0x150 [ +0.000009] el0t_64 ---truncated---

kernfs: fix use-after-free in __kernfs_remove

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: kernfs: fix use-after-free in __kernfs_remove Syzkaller managed to trigger concurrent calls to kernfs_remove_by_name_ns() for the same file resulting in a KASAN detected use-after-free. erofs: fix buffer copy overflow of ztailpacking feature

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: erofs: fix buffer copy overflow of ztailpacking feature I got some KASAN report as below: [ 46.959738] ================================================================== [ 46.960430] BUG: KASAN: use-after-free in z_erofs_shifted_transform+0x2bd/0x370 [ 46.960430] Read of size 4074 at addr ffff8880300c2f8e by task fssum/188 ... drm/panfrost: Job should reference MMU not file_priv

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/panfrost: Job should reference MMU not file_priv For a while now it's been allowed for a MMU context to outlive it's corresponding panfrost_priv, however the job structure still references panfrost_priv to get hold of the MMU context. If panfrost_priv has been freed this is a use-after-free which I've been able to trigger resulting in a splat. To fix this, drop the reference to panfrost_priv in the job structure and add a direct reference to the MMU structure which is what's actually needed.

powerpc/pseries: Fix use after free in remove_phb_dynamic()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: powerpc/pseries: Fix use after free in remove_phb_dynamic() In remove_phb_dynamic() we use &phb->io_resource, after we've called device_unregister(&host_bridge->dev). But the unregister may have freed phb, because pcibios_free_controller_deferred() is the release function for the host_bridge. If there are no outstanding references when we call device_unregister() then phb will be freed out from under us. This has gone mainly unnoticed, but with slub_debug and page_poison enabled it can lead to a crash: PID: 7574 TASK: c0000000d492cb80 CPU: 13 COMMAND: "drmgr" #0 [c0000000e4f075a0] crash_kexec at c00000000027d7dc #1 [c0000000e4f075d0] oops_end at c000000000029608 #2 [c0000000e4f07650] __bad_page_fault at c0000000000904b4 #3 [c0000000e4f076c0] do_bad_slb_fault at c00000000009a5a8 #4 [c0000000e4f076f0] data_access_slb_common_virt at c000000000008b30 Data SLB Access [380] exception frame: R0: c000000000167250 R1: c0000000e4f07a00 R2: c000000002a46100 R3: c000000002b39ce8 R4: 00000000000000c0 R5: 00000000000000a9 R6: 3894674d000000c0 R7: 0000000000000000 R8: 00000000000000ff R9: 0000000000000100 R10: 6b6b6b6b6b6b6b6b R11: 0000000000008000 R12: c00000000023da80 R13: c0000009ffd38b00 R14: 0000000000000000 R15: 000000011c87f0f0 R16: 0000000000000006 R17: 0000000000000003 R18: 0000000000000002 R19: 0000000000000004 R20: 0000000000000005 R21: 000000011c87ede8 R22: 000000011c87c5a8 R23: 000000011c87d3a0 R24: 0000000000000000 R25: 0000000000000001 R26: c0000000e4f07cc8 R27: c00000004d1cc400 R28: c0080000031d00e8 R29: c00000004d23d800 R30: c00000004d1d2400 R31: c00000004d1d2540 NIP: c000000000167258 MSR: 8000000000009033 OR3: c000000000e9f474 CTR: 0000000000000000 LR: c000000000167250 XER: 0000000020040003 CCR: 0000000024088420 MQ: 0000000000000000 DAR: 6b6b6b6b6b6b6ba3 DSISR: c0000000e4f07920 Syscall Result: fffffffffffffff2 [NIP : release_resource+56] [LR : release_resource+48] #5 [c0000000e4f07a00] release_resource at c000000000167258 (unreliable) #6 [c0000000e4f07a30] remove_phb_dynamic at c000000000105648 #7 [c0000000e4f07ab0] dlpar_remove_slot at c0080000031a09e8 [rpadlpar_io] #8 [c0000000e4f07b50] remove_slot_store at c0080000031a0b9c [rpadlpar_io] #9 [c0000000e4f07be0] kobj_attr_store at c000000000817d8c #10 [c0000000e4f07c00] sysfs_kf_write at c00000000063e504 #11 [c0000000e4f07c20] kernfs_fop_write_iter at c00000000063d868 #12 [c0000000e4f07c70] new_sync_write at c00000000054339c #13 [c0000000e4f07d10] vfs_write at c000000000546624 #14 [c0000000e4f07d60] ksys_write at c0000000005469f4 #15 [c0000000e4f07db0] system_call_exception at c000000000030840 #16 [c0000000e4f07e10] system_call_vectored_common at c00000000000c168 To avoid it, we can take a reference to the host_bridge->dev until we're done using phb. video: fbdev: vesafb: Fix a use-after-free due early fb_info cleanup

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: video: fbdev: vesafb: Fix a use-after-free due early fb_info cleanup Commit b3c9a924aab6 ("fbdev: vesafb: Cleanup fb_info in .fb_destroy rather than .remove") fixed a use-after-free error due the vesafb driver freeing the fb_info in the .remove handler instead of doing it in .fb_destroy. This can happen if the .fb_destroy callback is executed after the .remove callback, since the former tries to access a pointer freed by the latter. But that change didn't take into account that another possible scenario is that .fb_destroy is called before the .remove callback. For example, if no process has the fbdev chardev opened by the time the driver is removed. If that's the case, fb_info will be freed when unregister_framebuffer() is called, making the fb_info pointer accessed in vesafb_remove() after that to no longer be valid. To prevent that, move the expression containing the info->par to happen before the unregister_framebuffer() function call.

usbnet: Run unregister_netdev() before unbind() again

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usbnet: Run unregister_netdev() before unbind() again Commit 2c9d6c2b871d ("usbnet: run unbind() before unregister_netdev()") sought to fix a use-after-free on disconnect of USB Ethernet adapters. It turns out that a different fix is necessary to address the issue: https://lore.kernel.org/netdev/18b3541e5372bc9b9fc733d422f4e698c089077c.1650177997.git.lukas@wunner.de/ So the commit was not necessary. The commit made binding and unbinding of USB Ethernet asymmetrical: Before, usbnet_probe() first invoked the ->bind() callback and then register_netdev(). usbnet_disconnect() mirrored that by first invoking unregister_netdev() and then ->unbind(). Since the commit, the order in usbnet_disconnect() is reversed and no longer mirrors usbnet_probe(). One consequence is that a PHY disconnected (and stopped) in ->unbind() is afterwards stopped once more by unregister_netdev() as it closes the netdev before unregistering. That necessitates a contortion in ->stop() because the PHY may only be stopped if it hasn't already been disconnected. Reverting the commit allows making the call to phy_stop() unconditional in ->stop().

mm/slub: add missing TID updates on slab deactivation

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/slub: add missing TID updates on slab deactivation The fastpath in slab_alloc_node() assumes that c->slab is stable as long as the TID stays the same. However, two places in __slab_alloc() currently don't update the TID when deactivating the CPU slab. If multiple operations race the right way, this could lead to an object getting lost; or, in an even more unlikely situation, it could even lead to an object being freed onto the wrong slab's freelist, messing up the `inuse` counter and eventually causing a page to be freed to the page allocator while it still contains slab objects. (I haven't actually tested these cases though, this is just based on looking at the code. Writing testcases for this stuff seems like it'd be a pain...) The race leading to state inconsistency is (all operations on the same CPU and kmem_cache): - task A: begin do_slab_free(): - read TID - read pcpu freelist (==NULL) - check `slab == c->slab` (true) - [PREEMPT A->B] - task B: begin slab_alloc_node(): - fastpath fails (`c->freelist` is NULL) - enter __slab_alloc() - slub_get_cpu_ptr() (disables preemption) - enter ___slab_alloc() - take local_lock_irqsave() - read c->freelist as NULL - get_freelist() returns NULL - write `c->slab = NULL` - drop local_unlock_irqrestore() - goto new_slab - slub_percpu_partial() is NULL - get_partial() returns NULL - slub_put_cpu_ptr() (enables preemption) - [PREEMPT B->A] - task A: finish do_slab_free(): - this_cpu_cmpxchg_double() succeeds() - [CORRUPT STATE: c->slab==NULL, c->freelist!=NULL] From there, the object on c->freelist will get lost if task B is allowed to continue from here: It will proceed to the retry_load_slab label, set c->slab, then jump to load_freelist, which clobbers c->freelist. But if we instead continue as follows, we get worse corruption: - task A: run __slab_free() on object from other struct slab: - CPU_PARTIAL_FREE case (slab was on no list, is now on pcpu partial) - task A: run slab_alloc_node() with NUMA node constraint: - fastpath fails (c->slab is NULL) - call __slab_alloc() - slub_get_cpu_ptr() (disables preemption) - enter ___slab_alloc() - c->slab is NULL: goto new_slab - slub_percpu_partial() is non-NULL - set c->slab to slub_percpu_partial(c) - [CORRUPT STATE: c->slab points to slab-1, c->freelist has objects from slab-2] - goto redo - node_match() fails - goto deactivate_slab - existing c->freelist is passed into deactivate_slab() - inuse count of slab-1 is decremented to account for object from slab-2 At this point, the inuse count of slab-1 is 1 lower than it should be. This means that if we free all allocated objects in slab-1 except for one, SLUB will think that slab-1 is completely unused, and may free its page, leading to use-after-free.

writeback: avoid use-after-free after removing device

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: writeback: avoid use-after-free after removing device When a disk is removed, bdi_unregister gets called to stop further writeback and wait for associated delayed work to complete. However, wb_inode_writeback_end() may schedule bandwidth estimation dwork after this has completed, which can result in the timer attempting to access the just freed bdi_writeback. Fix this by checking if the bdi_writeback is alive, similar to when scheduling writeback work. Since this requires wb->work_lock, and wb_inode_writeback_end() may get called from interrupt, switch wb->work_lock to an irqsafe lock.

KVM: Reject attempts to consume or refresh inactive gfn_to_pfn_cache

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: Reject attempts to consume or refresh inactive gfn_to_pfn_cache Reject kvm_gpc_check() and kvm_gpc_refresh() if the cache is inactive. Not checking the active flag during refresh is particularly egregious, as KVM can end up with a valid, inactive cache, which can lead to a variety of use-after-free bugs, e.g. consuming a NULL kernel pointer or missing an mmu_notifier invalidation due to the cache not being on the list of gfns to invalidate. Note, "active" needs to be set if and only if the cache is on the list of caches, i.e. is reachable via mmu_notifier events. If a relevant mmu_notifier event occurs while the cache is "active" but not on the list, KVM will not acquire the cache's lock and so will not serailize the mmu_notifier event with active users and/or kvm_gpc_refresh(). A race between KVM_XEN_ATTR_TYPE_SHARED_INFO and KVM_XEN_HVM_EVTCHN_SEND can be exploited to trigger the bug. 1. But this function is not guaranteed the work is the last queued. So, the destroyed instance may be accessed in the work which will try to enqueue later. In order to completely fix, we re-order the calling of cancel_work_sync() to make sure the work tipc_net_finalize_work() was last queued and it must be completed by calling cancel_work_sync().

Bluetooth: L2CAP: Fix use-after-free caused by l2cap_reassemble_sdu

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: L2CAP: Fix use-after-free caused by l2cap_reassemble_sdu Fix the race condition between the following two flows that run in parallel: 1. l2cap_reassemble_sdu -> chan->ops->recv (l2cap_sock_recv_cb) -> __sock_queue_rcv_skb. 2. bt_sock_recvmsg -> skb_recv_datagram, skb_free_datagram. An SKB can be queued by the first flow and immediately dequeued and freed by the second flow, therefore the callers of l2cap_reassemble_sdu can't use the SKB after that function returns. However, some places continue accessing struct l2cap_ctrl that resides in the SKB's CB for a short time after l2cap_reassemble_sdu returns, leading to a use-after-free condition (the stack trace is below, line numbers for kernel 5.19.8). firmware_loader: Fix use-after-free during unregister

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: firmware_loader: Fix use-after-free during unregister In the following code within firmware_upload_unregister(), the call to device_unregister() could result in the dev_release function freeing the fw_upload_priv structure before it is dereferenced for the call to module_put(). This bug was found by the kernel test robot using CONFIG_KASAN while running the firmware selftests. device_unregister(&fw_sysfs->dev); module_put(fw_upload_priv->module); The problem is fixed by copying fw_upload_priv->module to a local variable for use when calling device_unregister().

blk-throttle: Set BIO_THROTTLED when bio has been throttled

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: blk-throttle: Set BIO_THROTTLED when bio has been throttled 1.In current process, all bio will set the BIO_THROTTLED flag after __blk_throtl_bio(). 2.If bio needs to be throttled, it will start the timer and stop submit bio directly. Bio will submit in blk_throtl_dispatch_work_fn() when the timer expires.But in the current process, if bio is throttled. The BIO_THROTTLED will be set to bio after timer start. nfc: pn533: Fix use-after-free bugs caused by pn532_cmd_timeout

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfc: pn533: Fix use-after-free bugs caused by pn532_cmd_timeout When the pn532 uart device is detaching, the pn532_uart_remove() is called. But there are no functions in pn532_uart_remove() that could delete the cmd_timeout timer, which will cause use-after-free bugs. The process is shown below: (thread 1) | (thread 2) | pn532_uart_send_frame pn532_uart_remove | mod_timer(&pn532->cmd_timeout,...) ... | (wait a time) kfree(pn532) //FREE | pn532_cmd_timeout | pn532_uart_send_frame | pn532->... //USE This patch adds del_timer_sync() in pn532_uart_remove() in order to prevent the use-after-free bugs. What's more, the pn53x_unregister_nfc() is well synchronized, it sets nfc_dev->shutting_down to true and there are no syscalls could restart the cmd_timeout timer.

Bluetooth: fix dangling sco_conn and use-after-free in sco_sock_timeout

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: fix dangling sco_conn and use-after-free in sco_sock_timeout Connecting the same socket twice consecutively in sco_sock_connect() could lead to a race condition where two sco_conn objects are created but only one is associated with the socket. If the socket is closed before the SCO connection is established, the timer associated with the dangling sco_conn object won't be canceled. As the sock object is being freed, the use-after-free problem happens when the timer callback function sco_sock_timeout() accesses the socket. Here's the call trace: dump_stack+0x107/0x163 ? refcount_inc+0x1c/ print_address_description.constprop.0+0x1c/0x47e ? refcount_inc+0x1c/0x7b kasan_report+0x13a/0x173 ? refcount_inc+0x1c/0x7b check_memory_region+0x132/0x139 refcount_inc+0x1c/0x7b sco_sock_timeout+0xb2/0x1ba process_one_work+0x739/0xbd1 ? cancel_delayed_work+0x13f/0x13f ? __raw_spin_lock_init+0xf0/0xf0 ? to_kthread+0x59/0x85 worker_thread+0x593/0x70e kthread+0x346/0x35a ? drain_workqueue+0x31a/0x31a ? kthread_bind+0x4b/0x4b ret_from_fork+0x1f/0x30

ALSA: pcm: Fix races among concurrent hw_params and hw_free calls

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: pcm: Fix races among concurrent hw_params and hw_free calls Currently we have neither proper check nor protection against the concurrent calls of PCM hw_params and hw_free ioctls, which may result in a UAF. Since the existing PCM stream lock can't be used for protecting the whole ioctl operations, we need a new mutex to protect those racy calls. This patch introduced a new mutex, runtime->buffer_mutex, and applies it to both hw_params and hw_free ioctl code paths. Along with it, the both functions are slightly modified (the mmap_count check is moved into the state-check block) for code simplicity.

scsi: libfc: Fix use after free in fc_exch_abts_resp()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: libfc: Fix use after free in fc_exch_abts_resp() fc_exch_release(ep) will decrease the ep's reference count. When the reference count reaches zero, it is freed. But ep is still used in the following code, which will lead to a use after free. Return after the fc_exch_release() call to avoid use after free.

If the gadget driver is unbound from the udc concurrently with uevent processing, the driver structure may be accessed after it has been deallocated. To prevent the race, we make sure that the routine holds the mutex around the racing accesses.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mt76: mt7921: fix crash when startup fails. If the nic fails to start, it is possible that the reset_work has already been scheduled. Ensure the work item is canceled so we do not have use-after-free crash in case cleanup is called before the work item is executed. This fixes crash on my x86_64 apu2 when mt7921k radio fails to work. Radio still fails, but OS does not crash.

blk-mq: don't touch ->tagset in blk_mq_get_sq_hctx

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: blk-mq: don't touch ->tagset in blk_mq_get_sq_hctx blk_mq_run_hw_queues() could be run when there isn't queued request and after queue is cleaned up, at that time tagset is freed, because tagset lifetime is covered by driver, and often freed after blk_cleanup_queue() returns. So don't touch ->tagset for figuring out current default hctx by the mapping built in request queue, so use-after-free on tagset can be avoided. Meantime this way should be fast than retrieving mapping from tagset.

block: disable the elevator int del_gendisk

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: block: disable the elevator int del_gendisk The elevator is only used for file system requests, which are stopped in del_gendisk. Move disabling the elevator and freeing the scheduler tags to the end of del_gendisk instead of doing that work in disk_release and blk_cleanup_queue to avoid a use after free on q->tag_set from disk_release as the tag_set might not be alive at that point. Move the blk_qos_exit call as well, as it just depends on the elevator exit and would be the only reason to keep the not exactly cheap queue freeze in disk_release.

bpf: Fix UAF due to race between btf_try_get_module and load_module

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Fix UAF due to race between btf_try_get_module and load_module While working on code to populate kfunc BTF ID sets for module BTF from its initcall, I noticed that by the time the initcall is invoked, the module BTF can already be seen by userspace (and the BPF verifier). The existing btf_try_get_module calls try_module_get which only fails if mod->state == MODULE_STATE_GOING, i.e. it can increment module reference when module initcall is happening in parallel. Currently, BTF parsing happens from MODULE_STATE_COMING notifier callback. At this point, the module initcalls have not been invoked. The notifier callback parses and prepares the module BTF, allocates an ID, which publishes it to userspace, and then adds it to the btf_modules list allowing the kernel to invoke btf_try_get_module for the BTF. However, at this point, the module has not been fully initialized (i.e. its initcalls have not finished). The code in module.c can still fail and free the module, without caring for other users. However, nothing stops btf_try_get_module from succeeding between the state transition from MODULE_STATE_COMING to MODULE_STATE_LIVE. This leads to a use-after-free issue when BPF program loads successfully in the state transition, load_module's do_init_module call fails and frees the module, and BPF program fd on close calls module_put for the freed module. Future patch has test case to verify we don't regress in this area in future. There are multiple points after prepare_coming_module (in load_module) where failure can occur and module loading can return error. We illustrate and test for the race using the last point where it can practically occur (in module __init function). An illustration of the race: CPU 0 CPU 1 load_module notifier_call(MODULE_STATE_COMING) btf_parse_module btf_alloc_id // Published to userspace list_add(&btf_mod->list, btf_modules) mod->init(...) ... ^ bpf_check | check_pseudo_btf_id | btf_try_get_module | returns true | ... ... | module __init in progress return prog_fd | ... ... V if (ret < 0) free_module(mod) ... close(prog_fd) ... bpf_prog_free_deferred module_put(used_btf.mod) // use-after-free We fix this issue by setting a flag BTF_MODULE_F_LIVE, from the notifier callback when MODULE_STATE_LIVE state is reached for the module, so that we return NULL from btf_try_get_module for modules that are not fully formed. Since try_module_get already checks that module is not in MODULE_STATE_GOING state, and that is the only transition a live module can make before being removed from btf_modules list, this is enough to close the race and prevent the bug. A later selftest patch crafts the race condition artifically to verify that it has been fixed, and that verifier fails to load program (with ENXIO). Lastly, a couple of comments: 1. Even if this race didn't exist, it seems more appropriate to only access resources (ksyms and kfuncs) of a fully formed module which has been initialized completely. 2. This patch was born out of need for synchronization against module initcall for the next patch, so it is needed for correctness even without the aforementioned race condition. The BTF resources initialized by module initcall are set up once and then only looked up, so just waiting until the initcall has finished ensures correct behavior.

scsi: lpfc: Fix null pointer dereference after failing to issue FLOGI and PLOGI

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: lpfc: Fix null pointer dereference after failing to issue FLOGI and PLOGI If lpfc_issue_els_flogi() fails and returns non-zero status, the node reference count is decremented to trigger the release of the nodelist structure. However, if there is a prior registration or dev-loss-evt work pending, the node may be released prematurely. When dev-loss-evt completes, the released node is referenced causing a use-after-free null pointer dereference. Similarly, when processing non-zero ELS PLOGI completion status in lpfc_cmpl_els_plogi(), the ndlp flags are checked for a transport registration before triggering node removal. If dev-loss-evt work is pending, the node may be released prematurely and a subsequent call to lpfc_dev_loss_tmo_handler() results in a use after free ndlp dereference. Add test for pending dev-loss before decrementing the node reference count for FLOGI, PLOGI, PRLI, and ADISC handling.

dma-buf/dma-resv: check if the new fence is really later

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: dma-buf/dma-resv: check if the new fence is really later Previously when we added a fence to a dma_resv object we always assumed the the newer than all the existing fences. With Jason's work to add an UAPI to explicit export/import that's not necessary the case any more. So without this check we would allow userspace to force the kernel into an use after free error. Since the change is very small and defensive it's probably a good idea to backport this to stable kernels as well just in case others are using the dma_resv object in the same way.

wifi: mac80211: Fix UAF in ieee80211_scan_rx()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: mac80211: Fix UAF in ieee80211_scan_rx() ieee80211_scan_rx() tries to access scan_req->flags after a null check, but a UAF is observed when the scan is completed and __ieee80211_scan_completed() executes, which then calls cfg80211_scan_done() leading to the freeing of scan_req. Since scan_req is rcu_dereference()'d, prevent the racing in __ieee80211_scan_completed() by ensuring that from mac80211's POV it is no longer accessed from an RCU read critical section before we call cfg80211_scan_done().
