iommu/omap: Fix regression in probe for NULL pointer dereference

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iommu/omap: Fix regression in probe for NULL pointer dereference Commit 3f6634d997db ("iommu: Use right way to retrieve iommu_ops") started triggering a NULL pointer dereference for some omap variants: __iommu_probe_device from probe_iommu_group+0x2c/0x38 probe_iommu_group from bus_for_each_dev+0x74/0xbc bus_for_each_dev from bus_iommu_probe+0x34/0x2e8 bus_iommu_probe from bus_set_iommu+0x80/0xc8 bus_set_iommu from omap_iommu_init+0x88/0xcc omap_iommu_init from do_one_initcall+0x44/0x24 This is caused by omap iommu probe returning 0 instead of ERR_PTR(-ENODEV) as noted by Jason Gunthorpe <jgg@ziepe.ca>. Looks like the regression already happened with an earlier commit 6785eb9105e3 ("iommu/omap: Convert to probe/release_device() call-backs") that changed the function return type and missed converting one place.

Bluetooth: hci_event: Ignore multiple conn complete events

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: hci_event: Ignore multiple conn complete events When one of the three connection complete events is received multiple times for the same handle, the device is registered multiple times which leads to memory corruptions. Therefore, consequent events for a single connection are ignored. The conn->state can hold different values, therefore HCI_CONN_HANDLE_UNSET is introduced to identify new connections. To make sure the events do not contain this or another invalid handle HCI_CONN_HANDLE_MAX and checks are introduced. Buglink: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=215497

Bluetooth: fix null ptr deref on hci_sync_conn_complete_evt

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: fix null ptr deref on hci_sync_conn_complete_evt This event is just specified for SCO and eSCO link types. On the reception of a HCI_Synchronous_Connection_Complete for a BDADDR of an existing LE connection, LE link type and a status that triggers the second case of the packet processing a NULL pointer dereference happens, as conn->link is NULL.

drm/msm/dsi: invalid parameter check in msm_dsi_phy_enable

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/msm/dsi: invalid parameter check in msm_dsi_phy_enable The function performs a check on the "phy" input parameter, however, it is used before the check. Initialize the "dev" variable after the sanity check to avoid a possible NULL pointer dereference. Addresses-Coverity-ID: 1493860 ("Null pointer dereference")

ALSA: hda: Fix UAF of leds class devs at unbinding

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: hda: Fix UAF of leds class devs at unbinding The LED class devices that are created by HD-audio codec drivers are registered via devm_led_classdev_register() and associated with the HD-audio codec device. Unfortunately, it turned out that the devres release doesn't work for this case; namely, since the codec resource release happens before the devm call chain, it triggers a NULL dereference or a UAF for a stale set_brightness_delay callback. For fixing the bug, this patch changes the LED class device register and unregister in a manual manner without devres, keeping the instances in hda_gen_spec.

This happens because the adding of task_work from io_ring_exit_work() isn't synchronized with canceling all work items from eg exec. The execution of the two are ordered in that they are both run by the task itself, but if io_tctx_exit_cb() is queued while we're canceling all work items off exec AND gets executed when the task exits to userspace rather than in the main loop in io_uring_cancel_generic(), then we can find current->io_uring == NULL and hit the above crash. It's safe to add this NULL check here, because the execution of the two paths are done by the task itself. [axboe: add code comment and also put an explanation in the commit msg]

scsi: qla2xxx: Implement ref count for SRB

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: qla2xxx: Implement ref count for SRB The timeout handler and the done function are racing. When qla2x00_async_iocb_timeout() starts to run it can be preempted by the normal response path (via the firmware?). qla24xx_async_gpsc_sp_done() releases the SRB unconditionally. When scheduling back to qla2x00_async_iocb_timeout() qla24xx_async_abort_cmd() will access an freed sp->qpair pointer: qla2xxx [0000:83:00.0]-2871:0: Async-gpsc timeout - hdl=63d portid=234500 50:06:0e:80:08:77:b6:21. qla2xxx [0000:83:00.0]-2853:0: Async done-gpsc res 0, WWPN 50:06:0e:80:08:77:b6:21 qla2xxx [0000:83:00.0]-2854:0: Async-gpsc OUT WWPN 20:45:00:27:f8:75:33:00 speeds=2c00 speed=0400. qla2xxx [0000:83:00.0]-28d8:0: qla24xx_handle_gpsc_event 50:06:0e:80:08:77:b6:21 DS 7 LS 6 rc 0 login 1|1 rscn 1|0 lid 5 BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000004 IP: qla24xx_async_abort_cmd+0x1b/0x1c0 [qla2xxx] Obvious solution to this is to introduce a reference counter. One reference is taken for the normal code path (the 'good' case) and one for the timeout path. As we always race between the normal good case and the timeout/abort handler we need to serialize it. Also we cannot assume any order between the handlers. Since this is slow path we can use proper synchronization via locks. When we are able to cancel a timer (del_timer returns 1) we know there can't be any error handling in progress because the timeout handler hasn't expired yet, thus we can safely decrement the refcounter by one. If we are not able to cancel the timer, we know an abort handler is running. We have to make sure we call sp->done() in the abort handlers before calling kref_put().

thermal/int340x_thermal: handle data_vault when the value is ZERO_SIZE_PTR

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: thermal/int340x_thermal: handle data_vault when the value is ZERO_SIZE_PTR In some case, the GDDV returns a package with a buffer which has zero length. net: ethernet: stmmac: fix altr_tse_pcs function when using a fixed-link

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: ethernet: stmmac: fix altr_tse_pcs function when using a fixed-link When using a fixed-link, the altr_tse_pcs driver crashes due to null-pointer dereference as no phy_device is provided to tse_pcs_fix_mac_speed function. Fix this by adding a check for phy_dev before calling the tse_pcs_fix_mac_speed() function. Also clean up the tse_pcs_fix_mac_speed function a bit. There is no need to check for splitter_base and sgmii_adapter_base because the driver will fail if these 2 variables are not derived from the device tree.

mtd: parsers: qcom: Fix kernel panic on skipped partition

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mtd: parsers: qcom: Fix kernel panic on skipped partition In the event of a skipped partition (case when the entry name is empty) the kernel panics in the cleanup function as the name entry is NULL. Rework the parser logic by first checking the real partition number and then allocate the space and set the data for the valid partitions. The logic was also fundamentally wrong as with a skipped partition, the parts number returned was incorrect by not decreasing it for the skipped partitions.

btrfs: fix NULL dereference on root when tracing inode eviction

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: btrfs: fix NULL dereference on root when tracing inode eviction When evicting an inode the first thing we do is to setup tracing for it, which implies fetching the root's id. But in btrfs_evict_inode() the root might be NULL, as implied in the next check that we do in btrfs_evict_inode(). Hence, we either should set the ->root_objectid to 0 in case the root is NULL, or we move tracing setup after checking that the root is not NULL. Setting the rootid to 0 at least gives us the possibility to trace this call even in the case when the root is NULL, so that's the solution taken here.

misc: bcm_vk: Fix possible null-pointer dereferences in bcm_vk_read()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: misc: bcm_vk: Fix possible null-pointer dereferences in bcm_vk_read() In the function bcm_vk_read(), the pointer entry is checked, indicating that it can be NULL. If entry is NULL and rc is set to -EMSGSIZE, the following code may cause null-pointer dereferences: struct vk_msg_blk tmp_msg = entry->to_h_msg[0]; set_msg_id(&tmp_msg, entry->usr_msg_id); tmp_msg.size = entry->to_h_blks - 1; To prevent these possible null-pointer dereferences, copy to_h_msg, usr_msg_id, and to_h_blks from iter into temporary variables, and return these temporary variables to the application instead of accessing them through a potentially NULL entry.

The code unconditionally evaluates page_address(in_token->pages[0]) for the initial memcpy, which can dereference NULL even when the copy length is 0. drm/msm/a6xx: move preempt_prepare_postamble after error check

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/msm/a6xx: move preempt_prepare_postamble after error check Move the call to preempt_prepare_postamble() after verifying that preempt_postamble_ptr is valid. If preempt_postamble_ptr is NULL, dereferencing it in preempt_prepare_postamble() would lead to a crash. This change avoids calling the preparation function when the postamble allocation has failed, preventing potential NULL pointer dereference and ensuring proper error handling. ibmvnic: don't release napi in __ibmvnic_open()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ibmvnic: don't release napi in __ibmvnic_open() If __ibmvnic_open() encounters an error such as when setting link state, it calls release_resources() which frees the napi structures needlessly. Instead, have __ibmvnic_open() only clean up the work it did so far (i.e. disable napi and irqs) and leave the rest to the callers. If caller of __ibmvnic_open() is ibmvnic_open(), it should release the resources immediately. If the caller is do_reset() or do_hard_reset(), they will release the resources on the next reset. This fixes following crash that occurred when running the drmgr command several times to add/remove a vnic interface: [102056] ibmvnic 30000003 env3: Disabling rx_scrq[6] irq [102056] ibmvnic 30000003 env3: Disabling rx_scrq[7] irq [102056] ibmvnic 30000003 env3: Replenished 8 pools Kernel attempted to read user page (10) - exploit attempt? net/smc: Transitional solution for clcsock race issue

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/smc: Transitional solution for clcsock race issue We encountered a crash in smc_setsockopt() and it is caused by accessing smc->clcsock after clcsock was released. BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000020 #PF: supervisor read access in kernel mode #PF: error_code(0x0000) - not-present page PGD 0 P4D 0 Oops: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP PTI CPU: 1 PID: 50309 Comm: nginx Kdump: loaded Tainted: G E 5.16.0-rc4+ #53 RIP: 0010:smc_setsockopt+0x59/0x280 [smc] Call Trace: <TASK> __sys_setsockopt+0xfc/0x190 __x64_sys_setsockopt+0x20/0x30 do_syscall_64+0x34/0x90 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x44/0xae RIP: 0033:0x7f16ba83918e </TASK> This patch tries to fix it by holding clcsock_release_lock and checking whether clcsock has already been released before access. In case that a crash of the same reason happens in smc_getsockopt() or smc_switch_to_fallback(), this patch also checkes smc->clcsock in them too. And the caller of smc_switch_to_fallback() will identify whether fallback succeeds according to the return value.

PCI: endpoint: Avoid creating sub-groups asynchronously

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: PCI: endpoint: Avoid creating sub-groups asynchronously The asynchronous creation of sub-groups by a delayed work could lead to a NULL pointer dereference when the driver directory is removed before the work completes. The crash can be easily reproduced with the following commands: # cd /sys/kernel/config/pci_ep/functions/pci_epf_test # for i in {1..20}; do mkdir test && rmdir test; done BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000088 ... xen/netfront: destroy queues before real_num_tx_queues is zeroed

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: xen/netfront: destroy queues before real_num_tx_queues is zeroed xennet_destroy_queues() relies on info->netdev->real_num_tx_queues to delete queues. Since d7dac083414eb5bb99a6d2ed53dc2c1b405224e5 ("net-sysfs: update the queue counts in the unregistration path"), unregister_netdev() indirectly sets real_num_tx_queues to 0. Those two facts together means, that xennet_destroy_queues() called from xennet_remove() cannot do its job, because it's called after unregister_netdev(). This results in kfree-ing queues that are still linked in napi, which ultimately crashes: BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000000 #PF: supervisor read access in kernel mode #PF: error_code(0x0000) - not-present page PGD 0 P4D 0 Oops: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP PTI CPU: 1 PID: 52 Comm: xenwatch Tainted: G W 5.16.10-1.32.fc32.qubes.x86_64+ #226 RIP: 0010:free_netdev+0xa3/0x1a0 Code: ff 48 89 df e8 2e e9 00 00 48 8b 43 50 48 8b 08 48 8d b8 a0 fe ff ff 48 8d a9 a0 fe ff ff 49 39 c4 75 26 eb 47 e8 ed c1 66 ff <48> 8b 85 60 01 00 00 48 8d 95 60 01 00 00 48 89 ef 48 2d 60 01 00 RSP: 0000:ffffc90000bcfd00 EFLAGS: 00010286 RAX: 0000000000000000 RBX: ffff88800edad000 RCX: 0000000000000000 RDX: 0000000000000001 RSI: ffffc90000bcfc30 RDI: 00000000ffffffff RBP: fffffffffffffea0 R08: 0000000000000000 R09: 0000000000000000 R10: 0000000000000000 R11: 0000000000000001 R12: ffff88800edad050 R13: ffff8880065f8f88 R14: 0000000000000000 R15: ffff8880066c6680 FS: 0000000000000000(0000) GS:ffff8880f3300000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 CS: 0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 0000000080050033 CR2: 0000000000000000 CR3: 00000000e998c006 CR4: 00000000003706e0 Call Trace: <TASK> xennet_remove+0x13d/0x300 [xen_netfront] xenbus_dev_remove+0x6d/0xf0 __device_release_driver+0x17a/0x240 device_release_driver+0x24/0x30 bus_remove_device+0xd8/0x140 device_del+0x18b/0x410 ? _raw_spin_unlock+0x16/0x30 ? klist_iter_exit+0x14/0x20 ? xenbus_dev_request_and_reply+0x80/0x80 device_unregister+0x13/0x60 xenbus_dev_changed+0x18e/0x1f0 xenwatch_thread+0xc0/0x1a0 ? do_wait_intr_irq+0xa0/0xa0 kthread+0x16b/0x190 ? set_kthread_struct+0x40/0x40 ret_from_fork+0x22/0x30 </TASK> Fix this by calling xennet_destroy_queues() from xennet_uninit(), when real_num_tx_queues is still available. During the module removal i40e_remove() calls i40e_lan_del_device() that dereferences pf->cinst that is NULL -> crash. Do not remove client instance when client open callbacks fails and just clear __I40E_CLIENT_INSTANCE_OPENED bit. The driver also needs to take care about this situation (when netdev is up and client is NOT opened) in i40e_notify_client_of_netdev_close() and calls client close callback only when __I40E_CLIENT_INSTANCE_OPENED is set.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: s390/dasd: fix Oops in dasd_alias_get_start_dev due to missing pavgroup Fix Oops in dasd_alias_get_start_dev() function caused by the pavgroup pointer being NULL. The pavgroup pointer is checked on the entrance of the function but without the lcu->lock being held. Therefore there is a race window between dasd_alias_get_start_dev() and _lcu_update() which sets pavgroup to NULL with the lcu->lock held. Fix by checking the pavgroup pointer with lcu->lock held.

cxl/region: Fix null pointer dereference for resetting decoder

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cxl/region: Fix null pointer dereference for resetting decoder Not all decoders have a reset callback. The CXL specification allows a host bridge with a single root port to have no explicit HDM decoders. Currently the region driver assumes there are none. As such the CXL core creates a special pass through decoder instance without a commit/reset callback. Prior to this patch, the ->reset() callback was called unconditionally when calling cxl_region_decode_reset. Thus a configuration with 1 Host Bridge, 1 Root Port, and one directly attached CXL type 3 device or multiple CXL type 3 devices attached to downstream ports of a switch can cause a null pointer dereference. Before the fix, a kernel crash was observed when we destroy the region, and a pass through decoder is reset. The issue can be reproduced as below, 1) create a region with a CXL setup which includes a HB with a single root port under which a memdev is attached directly. 2) destroy the region with cxl destroy-region regionX -f.

If DAT metadata file is corrupted on disk, there is a case where req->pr_desc_bh is NULL and blocknr is 0 at nilfs_dat_commit_end() during a b-tree operation that cascadingly updates ancestor nodes of the b-tree, because nilfs_dat_commit_alloc() for a lower level block can initialize the blocknr on the same DAT entry between nilfs_dat_prepare_end() and nilfs_dat_commit_end(). If this happens, nilfs_dat_commit_end() calls nilfs_dat_commit_free() without valid buffer heads in req->pr_desc_bh and req->pr_bitmap_bh, and causes the NULL pointer dereference above in nilfs_palloc_commit_free_entry() function, which leads to a crash. Fix this by adding a NULL check on req->pr_desc_bh and req->pr_bitmap_bh before nilfs_palloc_commit_free_entry() in nilfs_dat_commit_free(). This also calls nilfs_error() in that case to notify that there is a fatal flaw in the filesystem metadata and prevent further operations.

iommu/arm-smmu-v3: Don't unregister on shutdown

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iommu/arm-smmu-v3: Don't unregister on shutdown Similar to SMMUv2, this driver calls iommu_device_unregister() from the shutdown path, which removes the IOMMU groups with no coordination whatsoever with their users - shutdown methods are optional in device drivers. This can lead to NULL pointer dereferences in those drivers' DMA API calls, or worse. Instead of calling the full arm_smmu_device_remove() from arm_smmu_device_shutdown(), let's pick only the relevant function call - arm_smmu_device_disable() - more or less the reverse of arm_smmu_device_reset() - and call just that from the shutdown path.

sfc: fix null pointer dereference in efx_hard_start_xmit

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sfc: fix null pointer dereference in efx_hard_start_xmit Trying to get the channel from the tx_queue variable here is wrong because we can only be here if tx_queue is NULL, so we shouldn't dereference it. As the above comment in the code says, this is very unlikely to happen, but it's wrong anyway so let's fix it. I hit this issue because of a different bug that caused tx_queue to be NULL. If that happens, this is the error message that we get here: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000020 [...] RIP: 0010:efx_hard_start_xmit+0x153/0x170 [sfc]
