KVM: x86/mmu: make apf token non-zero to fix bug

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: x86/mmu: make apf token non-zero to fix bug In current async pagefault logic, when a page is ready, KVM relies on kvm_arch_can_dequeue_async_page_present() to determine whether to deliver a READY event to the Guest. This function test token value of struct kvm_vcpu_pv_apf_data, which must be reset to zero by Guest kernel when a READY event is finished by Guest. If value is zero meaning that a READY event is done, so the KVM can deliver another. But the kvm_arch_setup_async_pf() may produce a valid token with zero value, which is confused with previous mention and may lead the loss of this READY event. This bug may cause task blocked forever in Guest: INFO: task stress:7532 blocked for more than 1254 seconds. Not tainted 5.10.0 #16 "echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message. task:stress state:D stack: 0 pid: 7532 ppid: 1409 flags:0x00000080 Call Trace: __schedule+0x1e7/0x650 schedule+0x46/0xb0 kvm_async_pf_task_wait_schedule+0xad/0xe0 ? exit_to_user_mode_prepare+0x60/0x70 __kvm_handle_async_pf+0x4f/0xb0 ? asm_exc_page_fault+0x8/0x30 exc_page_fault+0x6f/0x110 ? asm_exc_page_fault+0x8/0x30 asm_exc_page_fault+0x1e/0x30 RIP: 0033:0x402d00 RSP: 002b:00007ffd31912500 EFLAGS: 00010206 RAX: 0000000000071000 RBX: ffffffffffffffff RCX: 00000000021a32b0 RDX: 000000000007d011 RSI: 000000000007d000 RDI: 00000000021262b0 RBP: 00000000021262b0 R08: 0000000000000003 R09: 0000000000000086 R10: 00000000000000eb R11: 00007fefbdf2baa0 R12: 0000000000000000 R13: 0000000000000002 R14: 000000000007d000 R15: 0000000000001000

fs: fix UAF/GPF bug in nilfs_mdt_destroy

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fs: fix UAF/GPF bug in nilfs_mdt_destroy In alloc_inode, inode_init_always() could return -ENOMEM if security_inode_alloc() fails, which causes inode->i_private uninitialized. Then nilfs_is_metadata_file_inode() returns true and nilfs_free_inode() wrongly calls nilfs_mdt_destroy(), which frees the uninitialized inode->i_private and leads to crashes(e.g., UAF/GPF). Fix this by moving security_inode_alloc just prior to this_cpu_inc(nr_inodes)

wifi: brcmfmac: Fix potential stack-out-of-bounds in brcmf_c_preinit_dcmds()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: brcmfmac: Fix potential stack-out-of-bounds in brcmf_c_preinit_dcmds() This patch fixes a stack-out-of-bounds read in brcmfmac that occurs when 'buf' that is not null-terminated is passed as an argument of strsep() in brcmf_c_preinit_dcmds(). btrfs: fix extent map use-after-free when handling missing device in read_one_chunk

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: btrfs: fix extent map use-after-free when handling missing device in read_one_chunk Store the error code before freeing the extent_map. Though it's reference counted structure, in that function it's the first and last allocation so this would lead to a potential use-after-free. The error can happen eg. when chunk is stored on a missing device and the degraded mount option is missing. Bugzilla: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=216721

drm/nouveau: fix a use-after-free in nouveau_gem_prime_import_sg_table()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/nouveau: fix a use-after-free in nouveau_gem_prime_import_sg_table() nouveau_bo_init() is backed by ttm_bo_init() and ferries its return code back to the caller. On failures, ttm will call nouveau_bo_del_ttm() and free the memory.Thus, when nouveau_bo_init() returns an error, the gem object has already been released. Then the call to nouveau_bo_ref() will use the freed "nvbo->bo" and lead to a use-after-free bug. We should delete the call to nouveau_bo_ref() to avoid the use-after-free.

netfilter: nf_tables: do not allow CHAIN_ID to refer to another table

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: nf_tables: do not allow CHAIN_ID to refer to another table When doing lookups for chains on the same batch by using its ID, a chain from a different table can be used. If a rule is added to a table but refers to a chain in a different table, it will be linked to the chain in table2, but would have expressions referring to objects in table1. Then, when table1 is removed, the rule will not be removed as its linked to a chain in table2. When expressions in the rule are processed or removed, that will lead to a use-after-free. When looking for chains by ID, use the table that was used for the lookup by name, and only return chains belonging to that same table.

ACPI: tables: FPDT: Don't call acpi_os_map_memory() on invalid phys address

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ACPI: tables: FPDT: Don't call acpi_os_map_memory() on invalid phys address On a Packard Bell Dot SC (Intel Atom N2600 model) there is a FPDT table which contains invalid physical addresses, with high bits set which fall outside the range of the CPU-s supported physical address range. gpio: davinci: Validate the obtained number of IRQs

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: gpio: davinci: Validate the obtained number of IRQs Value of pdata->gpio_unbanked is taken from Device Tree. In case of broken DT due to any error this value can be any. Without this value validation there can be out of chips->irqs array boundaries access in davinci_gpio_probe(). Validate the obtained nirq value so that it won't exceed the maximum number of IRQs per bank. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with SVACE.

cachefiles: cyclic allocation of msg_id to avoid reuse

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cachefiles: cyclic allocation of msg_id to avoid reuse Reusing the msg_id after a maliciously completed reopen request may cause a read request to remain unprocessed and result in a hung, as shown below: t1 | t2 | t3 ------------------------------------------------- cachefiles_ondemand_select_req cachefiles_ondemand_object_is_close(A) cachefiles_ondemand_set_object_reopening(A) queue_work(fscache_object_wq, &info->work) ondemand_object_worker cachefiles_ondemand_init_object(A) cachefiles_ondemand_send_req(OPEN) // get msg_id 6 wait_for_completion(&req_A->done) cachefiles_ondemand_daemon_read // read msg_id 6 req_A cachefiles_ondemand_get_fd copy_to_user // Malicious completion msg_id 6 copen 6,-1 cachefiles_ondemand_copen complete(&req_A->done) // will not set the object to close // because ondemand_id && fd is valid. // ondemand_object_worker() is done // but the object is still reopening. // new open req_B cachefiles_ondemand_init_object(B) cachefiles_ondemand_send_req(OPEN) // reuse msg_id 6 process_open_req copen 6,A.size // The expected failed copen was executed successfully Expect copen to fail, and when it does, it closes fd, which sets the object to close, and then close triggers reopen again. However, due to msg_id reuse resulting in a successful copen, the anonymous fd is not closed until the daemon exits. Therefore read requests waiting for reopen to complete may trigger hung task. To avoid this issue, allocate the msg_id cyclically to avoid reusing the msg_id for a very short duration of time.

ASoC: sof_es8336: fix possible use-after-free in sof_es8336_remove()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ASoC: sof_es8336: fix possible use-after-free in sof_es8336_remove() sof_es8336_remove() calls cancel_delayed_work(). However, that function does not wait until the work function finishes. This means that the callback function may still be running after the driver's remove function has finished, which would result in a use-after-free. Fix by calling cancel_delayed_work_sync(), which ensures that the work is properly cancelled, no longer running, and unable to re-schedule itself.

NFSD: fix use-after-free on source server when doing inter-server copy

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: NFSD: fix use-after-free on source server when doing inter-server copy Use-after-free occurred when the laundromat tried to free expired cpntf_state entry on the s2s_cp_stateids list after inter-server copy completed. The sc_cp_list that the expired copy state was inserted on was already freed. When COPY completes, the Linux client normally sends LOCKU(lock_state x), FREE_STATEID(lock_state x) and CLOSE(open_state y) to the source server. The nfs4_put_stid call from nfsd4_free_stateid cleans up the copy state from the s2s_cp_stateids list before freeing the lock state's stid. However, sometimes the CLOSE was sent before the FREE_STATEID request. When this happens, the nfsd4_close_open_stateid call from nfsd4_close frees all lock states on its st_locks list without cleaning up the copy state on the sc_cp_list list. When the time the FREE_STATEID arrives the server returns BAD_STATEID since the lock state was freed. This causes the use-after-free error to occur when the laundromat tries to free the expired cpntf_state. This patch adds a call to nfs4_free_cpntf_statelist in nfsd4_close_open_stateid to clean up the copy state before calling free_ol_stateid_reaplist to free the lock state's stid on the reaplist.

cxl/acpi: Fix a use-after-free in cxl_parse_cfmws()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cxl/acpi: Fix a use-after-free in cxl_parse_cfmws() KASAN and KFENCE detected an user-after-free in the CXL driver. This happens in the cxl_decoder_add() fail path. KASAN prints the following error: BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in cxl_parse_cfmws (drivers/cxl/acpi.c:299) This happens in cxl_parse_cfmws(), where put_device() is called, releasing cxld, which is accessed later. Use the local variables in the dev_err() instead of pointing to the released memory. Since the dev_err() is printing a resource, change the open coded print format to use the %pr format specifier.

media: dvbdev: adopts refcnt to avoid UAF

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: dvbdev: adopts refcnt to avoid UAF dvb_unregister_device() is known that prone to use-after-free. That is, the cleanup from dvb_unregister_device() releases the dvb_device even if there are pointers stored in file->private_data still refer to it. This patch adds a reference counter into struct dvb_device and delays its deallocation until no pointer refers to the object.

ACPICA: Fix error code path in acpi_ds_call_control_method()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ACPICA: Fix error code path in acpi_ds_call_control_method() A use-after-free in acpi_ps_parse_aml() after a failing invocaion of acpi_ds_call_control_method() is reported by KASAN [1] and code inspection reveals that next_walk_state pushed to the thread by acpi_ds_create_walk_state() is freed on errors, but it is not popped from the thread beforehand. Thus acpi_ds_get_current_walk_state() called by acpi_ps_parse_aml() subsequently returns it as the new walk state which is incorrect. To address this, make acpi_ds_call_control_method() call acpi_ds_pop_walk_state() to pop next_walk_state from the thread before returning an error.

ath9k: fix use-after-free in ath9k_hif_usb_rx_cb

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ath9k: fix use-after-free in ath9k_hif_usb_rx_cb Syzbot reported use-after-free Read in ath9k_hif_usb_rx_cb() [0]. Probable call trace which can trigger use-after-free: ath9k_htc_probe_device() /* htc_handle->drv_priv = priv; */ ath9k_htc_wait_for_target() <--- Failed ieee80211_free_hw() <--- priv pointer is freed <IRQ> ... ath9k_hif_usb_rx_cb() ath9k_hif_usb_rx_stream() RX_STAT_INC() <--- htc_handle->drv_priv access In order to not add fancy protection for drv_priv we can move htc_handle->drv_priv initialization at the end of the ath9k_htc_probe_device() and add helper macro to make all *_STAT_* macros NULL safe, since syzbot has reported related NULL deref in that macros [1]

mptcp: move subflow cleanup in mptcp_destroy_common()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mptcp: move subflow cleanup in mptcp_destroy_common() If the mptcp socket creation fails due to a CGROUP_INET_SOCK_CREATE eBPF program, the MPTCP protocol ends-up leaking all the subflows: the related cleanup happens in __mptcp_destroy_sock() that is not invoked in such code path. Address the issue moving the subflow sockets cleanup in the mptcp_destroy_common() helper, which is invoked in every msk cleanup path. Additionally get rid of the intermediate list_splice_init step, which is an unneeded relic from the past. The issue is present since before the reported root cause commit, but any attempt to backport the fix before that hash will require a complete rewrite.

io_uring/af_unix: defer registered files gc to io_uring release

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: io_uring/af_unix: defer registered files gc to io_uring release Instead of putting io_uring's registered files in unix_gc() we want it to be done by io_uring itself. The trick here is to consider io_uring registered files for cycle detection but not actually putting them down. Because io_uring can't register other ring instances, this will remove all refs to the ring file triggering the ->release path and clean up with io_ring_ctx_free(). scsi: smartpqi: Fix disable_managed_interrupts

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: smartpqi: Fix disable_managed_interrupts Correct blk-mq registration issue with module parameter disable_managed_interrupts enabled. scsi: mpt3sas: Avoid test/set_bit() operating in non-allocated memory

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: mpt3sas: Avoid test/set_bit() operating in non-allocated memory There is a potential out-of-bounds access when using test_bit() on a single word. The test_bit() and set_bit() functions operate on long values, and when testing or setting a single word, they can exceed the word boundary. KASAN detects this issue and produces a dump: BUG: KASAN: slab-out-of-bounds in _scsih_add_device.constprop.0 (./arch/x86/include/asm/bitops.h:60 ./include/asm-generic/bitops/instrumented-atomic.h:29 drivers/scsi/mpt3sas/mpt3sas_scsih.c:7331) mpt3sas Write of size 8 at addr ffff8881d26e3c60 by task kworker/u1536:2/2965 For full log, please look at [1]. Make the allocation at least the size of sizeof(unsigned long) so that set_bit() and test_bit() have sufficient room for read/write operations without overwriting unallocated memory. staging: vme_user: Fix possible UAF in tsi148_dma_list_add

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: staging: vme_user: Fix possible UAF in tsi148_dma_list_add Smatch report warning as follows: drivers/staging/vme_user/vme_tsi148.c:1757 tsi148_dma_list_add() warn: '&entry->list' not removed from list In tsi148_dma_list_add(), the error path "goto err_dma" will not remove entry->list from list->entries, but entry will be freed, then list traversal may cause UAF. Fix by removeing it from list->entries before free().

tomoyo: fix UAF write bug in tomoyo_write_control()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tomoyo: fix UAF write bug in tomoyo_write_control() Since tomoyo_write_control() updates head->write_buf when write() of long lines is requested, we need to fetch head->write_buf after head->io_sem is held. Otherwise, concurrent write() requests can cause use-after-free-write and double-free problems.

init/main.c: Fix potential static_command_line memory overflow

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: init/main.c: Fix potential static_command_line memory overflow We allocate memory of size 'xlen + strlen(boot_command_line) + 1' for static_command_line, but the strings copied into static_command_line are extra_command_line and command_line, rather than extra_command_line and boot_command_line. When strlen(command_line) > strlen(boot_command_line), static_command_line will overflow. This patch just recovers strlen(command_line) which was miss-consolidated with strlen(boot_command_line) in the commit f5c7310ac73e ("init/main: add checks for the return value of memblock_alloc*()")

android: binder: stop saving a pointer to the VMA

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: android: binder: stop saving a pointer to the VMA Do not record a pointer to a VMA outside of the mmap_lock for later use. This is unsafe and there are a number of failure paths *after* the recorded VMA pointer may be freed during setup. There is no callback to the driver to clear the saved pointer from generic mm code. Furthermore, the VMA pointer may become stale if any number of VMA operations end up freeing the VMA so saving it was fragile to being with. Instead, change the binder_alloc struct to record the start address of the VMA and use vma_lookup() to get the vma when needed. Add lockdep mmap_lock checks on updates to the vma pointer to ensure the lock is held and depend on that lock for synchronization of readers and writers - which was already the case anyways, so the smp_wmb()/smp_rmb() was not necessary. [akpm@linux-foundation.org: fix drivers/android/binder_alloc_selftest.c]

block, bfq: fix uaf for bfqq in bfq_exit_icq_bfqq

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: block, bfq: fix uaf for bfqq in bfq_exit_icq_bfqq Commit 64dc8c732f5c ("block, bfq: fix possible uaf for 'bfqq->bic'") will access 'bic->bfqq' in bic_set_bfqq(), however, bfq_exit_icq_bfqq() can free bfqq first, and then call bic_set_bfqq(), which will cause uaf. Fix the problem by moving bfq_exit_bfqq() behind bic_set_bfqq().

r8169: fix LED-related deadlock on module removal

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: r8169: fix LED-related deadlock on module removal Binding devm_led_classdev_register() to the netdev is problematic because on module removal we get a RTNL-related deadlock. Fix this by avoiding the device-managed LED functions. Note: We can safely call led_classdev_unregister() for a LED even if registering it failed, because led_classdev_unregister() detects this and is a no-op in this case.

posix-cpu-timers: Cleanup CPU timers before freeing them during exec

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: posix-cpu-timers: Cleanup CPU timers before freeing them during exec Commit 55e8c8eb2c7b ("posix-cpu-timers: Store a reference to a pid not a task") started looking up tasks by PID when deleting a CPU timer. When a non-leader thread calls execve, it will switch PIDs with the leader process. Then, as it calls exit_itimers, posix_cpu_timer_del cannot find the task because the timer still points out to the old PID. That means that armed timers won't be disarmed, that is, they won't be removed from the timerqueue_list. exit_itimers will still release their memory, and when that list is later processed, it leads to a use-after-free. Clean up the timers from the de-threaded task before freeing them. This prevents a reported use-after-free.
