Local privilege escalation due to DLL hijacking vulnerability in Acronis Media Builder service. The following products are affected: Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (Windows) before build 39612, Acronis True Image 2021 (Windows) before build 39287
Bitmask Riseup VPN 0.21.6 contains a local privilege escalation flaw due to improper access controls. When the software is installed with a non-default installation directory off of the system root, the installer fails to properly set ACLs. This allows lower privileged users to replace the VPN executable with a malicious one. When a higher privileged user such as an Administrator launches that executable, it is possible for the lower privileged user to escalate to Administrator privileges.
Local privilege escalation due to DLL hijacking vulnerability. The following products are affected: Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (Windows) before build 39612, Acronis True Image 2021 (Windows) before build 39287
Razer Synapse before 3.7.0228.022817 allows privilege escalation because it relies on %PROGRAMDATA%\Razer\Synapse3\Service\bin even if %PROGRAMDATA%\Razer has been created by any unprivileged user before Synapse is installed. The unprivileged user may have placed Trojan horse DLLs there.
Windows Setup Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability
ShowMyPC 3606 on Windows suffers from a DLL hijack vulnerability. If an attacker overwrites the file %temp%\ShowMyPC\-ShowMyPC3606\wodVPN.dll, it will run any malicious code contained in that file. The code will run with normal user privileges unless the user specifically runs ShowMyPC as administrator.

Acrobat Reader DC versions 2021.005.20060 (and earlier), 2020.004.30006 (and earlier) and 2017.011.30199 (and earlier) are affected by an Uncontrolled Search Path Element vulnerability. A local attacker with non-administrative privileges can plant a malicious DLL to achieve arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user via DLL hijacking. Exploitation of this issue requires user interaction.
.NET, .NET Framework, and Visual Studio Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability
Summary Microsoft was notified that an elevation of privilege vulnerability exists in Windows Update, potentially enabling an attacker with basic user privileges to reintroduce previously mitigated vulnerabilities or circumvent some features of Virtualization Based Security (VBS). However, an attacker attempting to exploit this vulnerability requires additional interaction by a privileged user to be successful. Microsoft has developed a security update to mitigate this threat which was made available October 08, 2024 and is provided in the Security Updates table of this CVE for customers to download. Note: Depending on your version of Windows, additional steps may be required to update Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) to be protected from this vulnerability. Please refer to the FAQ section for more information. Guidance for customers who cannot immediately implement the update is provided in the Recommended Actions section of this CVE to help reduce the risks associated with this vulnerability and to protect their systems. If there are any further updates regarding mitigations for this vulnerability, this CVE will be updated and customers will be notified. We highly encourage customers to subscribe to Security Update Guide notifications to receive an alert if an update occurs. Details A security researcher informed Microsoft of an elevation of privilege vulnerability in Windows Update potentially enabling an attacker with basic user privileges to reintroduce previously mitigated vulnerabilities or circumvent some features of VBS. For exploitation to succeed, an attacker must trick or convince an Administrator or a user with delegated permissions into performing a system restore which inadvertently triggers the vulnerability. Microsoft has developed a security update to mitigate this threat which was made available October 08, 2024 and is provided in the Security Updates table of this CVE for customers to download. An incorrect permission vulnerability in the product installer folders for Trend Micro HouseCall for Home Networks version 5.3.1179 and below could allow an attacker to escalate privileges by placing arbitrary code on a specified folder and have that code be executed by an Administrator who is running a scan. Please note that an attacker must first obtain the ability to execute low-privileged code on the target system to exploit this vulnerability.
Local privilege escalation due to DLL hijacking vulnerability. The following products are affected: Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud Agent (Windows) before build 36497, Acronis Cyber Protect 16 (Windows) before build 37391.

Double free vulnerability in the OpenType Font (OTF) driver in Microsoft Windows XP SP2 and SP3, Windows Server 2003 SP2, Windows Vista SP1 and SP2, Windows Server 2008 Gold, SP2, and R2, and Windows 7 allows local users to gain privileges via a crafted OpenType font, aka "OpenType Font Double Free Vulnerability."
Stack-based buffer overflow in CoolType.dll in Adobe Reader and Acrobat 9.x before 9.4, and 8.x before 8.2.5 on Windows and Mac OS X, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (application crash) via a PDF document with a long field in a Smart INdependent Glyphlets (SING) table in a TTF font, as exploited in the wild in September 2010. NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.

A third-party vulnerability exists in the Rockwell Automation Arena® that could allow a threat actor to write beyond the boundaries of allocated memory in a DOE file. If exploited, a threat actor could leverage this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code. To exploit this vulnerability, a legitimate user must execute the malicious code crafted by the threat actor.
Another “uninitialized variable” code execution vulnerability exists in the Rockwell Automation Arena® that could allow a threat actor to craft a DOE file and force the software to access a variable prior to it being initialized. If exploited, a threat actor could leverage this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code. To exploit this vulnerability, a legitimate user must execute the malicious code crafted by the threat actor.

An insecure file access vulnerability exists in CA Client Automation 14.0, 14.1, 14.2, and 14.3 Agent for Windows that can allow a local attacker to gain escalated privileges.
Under certain conditions, a low privileged attacker could load a specially crafted file during installation or upgrade to escalate privileges on Windows and Linux hosts.
ScaleFusion 10.5.2 does not properly limit users to the Edge application because Alt-F4 can be used. This is fixed in 10.5.7 by preventing the launching of the file explorer in Agent-based Multi-App and Single App Kiosk mode.
Code42 app through version 7.0.2 for Windows has an Untrusted Search Path. In certain situations, a non-administrative attacker on the local machine could create or modify a dynamic-link library (DLL). The Code42 service could then load it at runtime, and potentially execute arbitrary code at an elevated privilege on the local machine.
Code42 server through 7.0.2 for Windows has an Untrusted Search Path. In certain situations, a non-administrative attacker on the local server could create or modify a dynamic-link library (DLL). The Code42 service could then load it at runtime, and potentially execute arbitrary code at an elevated privilege on the local server.
An elevation of privilege vulnerability exists due to a stack corruption in Windows Subsystem for Linux. An attacker who successfully exploited the vulnerability could execute code with elevated permissions. To exploit the vulnerability, a locally authenticated attacker could run a specially crafted application. The security update addresses the vulnerability by correcting how Windows Subsystem for Linux handles objects in memory.
