The affected application assigns improper access rights to the service executable. This could allow an authenticated local attacker to inject arbitrary code and escalate privileges.
Linux Guest VMs running on VMware Workstation (15.x before 15.5.2) and Fusion (11.x before 11.5.2) contain a local privilege escalation vulnerability due to improper file permissions in Cortado Thinprint. Local attackers with non-administrative access to a Linux guest VM with virtual printing enabled may exploit this issue to elevate their privileges to root on the same guest VM.
VMware Horizon Client for Windows (prior to 5.4.3) contains a privilege escalation vulnerability due to folder permission configuration and unsafe loading of libraries. A local user on the system where the software is installed may exploit this issue to run commands as any user.

Incorrect Permission Assignment for Critical Resource vulnerability in Apache APISIX(java-plugin-runner). Local listening file permissions in APISIX plugin runner allow a local attacker to elevate privileges. This issue affects Apache APISIX(java-plugin-runner): from 0.2.0 through 0.5.0. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 0.6.0 or higher, which fixes the issue.
Insecure permissions configuration in Adaware Protect v1.2.439.4251 allows attackers to escalate privileges via changing the service binary path.
Nagios XI versions prior to 2024R2 contain an improperly owned script, process_perfdata.pl, which is executed periodically as the nagios user but owned by www-data. Because the file was writable by www-data, an attacker with web server privileges could modify its contents, leading to arbitrary code execution as the nagios user when the script is next run. This improper ownership and permission configuration enables local privilege escalation.
Vasion Print (formerly PrinterLogic) Virtual Appliance Host versions prior to 1.0.735 and Application versions prior to 20.0.1330 (macOS/Linux client deployments) contain a vulnerability in the local inter-process communication (IPC) mechanism. The software stores IPC request and response files inside /opt/PrinterInstallerClient/tmp with world-readable and world-writable permissions. Any local user can craft malicious request files that are processed by privileged daemons, leading to unauthorized actions being executed in other user sessions. This breaks user session isolation, potentially allowing local attackers to hijack sessions, perform unintended actions in the context of other users, and impact system integrity and availability. This vulnerability has been identified by the vendor as: V-2022-004 — Client Inter-process Security.
pkg_postinst in the Gentoo ebuild for Slurm through 22.05.3 unnecessarily calls chown to assign root's ownership on files in the live root filesystem. This could be exploited by the slurm user to become the owner of root-owned files.
IBM WebSphere MQ 8.0.0.0 through 8.0.0.9 and 9.0.0.0 through 9.1.1 could allow a local non privileged user to execute code as an administrator due to incorrect permissions set on MQ installation directories. IBM X-Force ID: 157190.

Note: Software versions which have reached End of Technical Support (EoTS) are not evaluated
The Application Wrapper in Pearson VUE VTS Installer 2.3.1911 has Full Control permissions for Everyone in the "%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Pearson VUE" directory, which allows local users to obtain administrative privileges via a Trojan horse application.
A vulnerability in Cisco SD-WAN Software could allow an authenticated, local attacker to elevate privileges to root group on the underlying operating system. The vulnerability is due to incorrect permissions being set when the affected command is executed. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by executing the affected command on an affected system. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to gain root privileges.
PyInstaller bundles a Python application and all its dependencies into a single package. A PyInstaller built application, elevated as a privileged process, may be tricked by an unprivileged attacker into deleting files the unprivileged user does not otherwise have access to. A user is affected if **all** the following are satisfied: 1. The user runs an application containing either `matplotlib` or `win32com`. 2. The application is ran as administrator (or at least a user with higher privileges than the attacker). 3. The user's temporary directory is not locked to that specific user (most likely due to `TMP`/`TEMP` environment variables pointing to an unprotected, arbitrary, non default location). Either: A. The attacker is able to very carefully time the replacement of a temporary file with a symlink. This switch must occur exactly between `shutil.rmtree()`'s builtin symlink check and the deletion itself B: The application was built with Python 3.7.x or earlier which has no protection against Directory Junctions links. The vulnerability has been addressed in PR #7827 which corresponds to `pyinstaller >= 5.13.1`. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.
Dell EMC PowerScale OneFS versions 8.1.2 and 8.2.2 contain an Incorrect Permission Assignment for a Critical Resource vulnerability. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to confidentiality, integrity, as well as system availability.
This vulnerability allows local attackers to escalate privileges on affected installations of Foxit PhantomPDF 10.0.0.35798. An attacker must first obtain the ability to execute low-privileged code on the target system in order to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists within the handling of the configuration files used by the Foxit PhantomPDF Update Service. The issue results from incorrect permissions set on a resource used by the service. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to escalate privileges and execute code in the context of SYSTEM. Docker Desktop before 3.6.0 suffers from incorrect access control. If a low-privileged account is able to access the server running the Windows containers, it can lead to a full container compromise in both process isolation and Hyper-V isolation modes. This security issue leads an attacker with low privilege to read, write and possibly even execute code inside the containers.

In PyInstaller before version 3.6, only on Windows, a local privilege escalation vulnerability is present in this particular case: If a software using PyInstaller in "onefile" mode is launched by a privileged user (at least more than the current one) which have his "TempPath" resolving to a world writable directory. This is the case for example if the software is launched as a service or as a scheduled task using a system account (TempPath will be C:\Windows\Temp). In order to be exploitable the software has to be (re)started after the attacker launch the exploit program, so for a service launched at startup, a service restart is needed (e.g. after a crash or an upgrade).
