vlan: enforce underlying device type

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vlan: enforce underlying device type Currently, VLAN devices can be created on top of non-ethernet devices. Besides the fact that it doesn't make much sense, this also causes a bug which leaks the address of a kernel function to usermode. When creating a VLAN device, we initialize GARP (garp_init_applicant) and MRP (mrp_init_applicant) for the underlying device. As part of the initialization process, we add the multicast address of each applicant to the underlying device, by calling dev_mc_add. __dev_mc_add uses dev->addr_len to determine the length of the new multicast address. This causes an out-of-bounds read if dev->addr_len is greater than 6, since the multicast addresses provided by GARP and MRP are only 6 bytes long. This behaviour can be reproduced using the following commands: ip tunnel add gretest mode ip6gre local ::1 remote ::2 dev lo ip l set up dev gretest ip link add link gretest name vlantest type vlan id 100 Then, the following command will display the address of garp_pdu_rcv: ip maddr show | grep 01:80:c2:00:00:21 Fix the bug by enforcing the type of the underlying device during VLAN device initialization.

sched: sch_cake: add bounds checks to host bulk flow fairness counts

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sched: sch_cake: add bounds checks to host bulk flow fairness counts Even though we fixed a logic error in the commit cited below, syzbot still managed to trigger an underflow of the per-host bulk flow counters, leading to an out of bounds memory access. To avoid any such logic errors causing out of bounds memory accesses, this commit factors out all accesses to the per-host bulk flow counters to a series of helpers that perform bounds-checking before any increments and decrements. This also has the benefit of improving readability by moving the conditional checks for the flow mode into these helpers, instead of having them spread out throughout the code (which was the cause of the original logic error). As part of this change, the flow quantum calculation is consolidated into a helper function, which means that the dithering applied to the ost load scaling is now applied both in the DRR rotation and when a sparse flow's quantum is first initiated. The only user-visible effect of this is that the maximum packet size that can be sent while a flow stays sparse will now vary with +/- one byte in some cases. This should not make a noticeable difference in practice, and thus it's not worth complicating the code to preserve the old behaviour.

usbnet: ipheth: fix possible overflow in DPE length check

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usbnet: ipheth: fix possible overflow in DPE length check Originally, it was possible for the DPE length check to overflow if wDatagramIndex + wDatagramLength > U16_MAX. This could lead to an OoB read. Move the wDatagramIndex term to the other side of the inequality. An existing condition ensures that wDatagramIndex < urb->actual_length.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iscsi_ibft: Fix UBSAN shift-out-of-bounds warning in ibft_attr_show_nic() When performing an iSCSI boot using IPv6, iscsistart still reads the /sys/firmware/ibft/ethernetX/subnet-mask entry. Since the IPv6 prefix length is 64, this causes the shift exponent to become negative, triggering a UBSAN warning. As the concept of a subnet mask does not apply to IPv6, the value is set to ~0 to suppress the warning message.

Only the start position of NDP16 was checked, so it was possible for even the fixed-length part of NDP16 to extend past the end of URB, leading to an out-of-bounds read. On iOS devices, the NDP16 header always directly follows NTH16. Rely on and check for this specific format. This, along with NCM-specific minimal URB length check that already exists, will ensure that the fixed-length part of NDP16 plus a set amount of DPEs fit within the URB. Note that this commit alone does not fully address the OoB read. The limit on the amount of DPEs needs to be enforced separately.

ksmbd: fix overflow in dacloffset bounds check

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix overflow in dacloffset bounds check The dacloffset field was originally typed as int and used in an unchecked addition, which could overflow and bypass the existing bounds check in both smb_check_perm_dacl() and smb_inherit_dacl(). This could result in out-of-bounds memory access and a kernel crash when dereferencing the DACL pointer. This patch converts dacloffset to unsigned int and uses check_add_overflow() to validate access to the DACL.

HID: hid-thrustmaster: fix stack-out-of-bounds read in usb_check_int_endpoints()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: HID: hid-thrustmaster: fix stack-out-of-bounds read in usb_check_int_endpoints() Syzbot[1] has detected a stack-out-of-bounds read of the ep_addr array from hid-thrustmaster driver. This array is passed to usb_check_int_endpoints function from usb.c core driver, which executes a for loop that iterates over the elements of the passed array. Not finding a null element at the end of the array, it tries to read the next, non-existent element, crashing the kernel. To fix this, a 0 element was added at the end of the array to break the for loop. [1] https://syzkaller.appspot.com/bug?extid=9c9179ac46169c56c1ad

ath5k: fix OOB in ath5k_eeprom_read_pcal_info_5111

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ath5k: fix OOB in ath5k_eeprom_read_pcal_info_5111 The bug was found during fuzzing. Stacktrace locates it in ath5k_eeprom_convert_pcal_info_5111. When none of the curve is selected in the loop, idx can go up to AR5K_EEPROM_N_PD_CURVES. The line makes pd out of bound. pd = &chinfo[pier].pd_curves[idx]; There are many OOB writes using pd later in the code. So I added a sanity check for idx. Checks for other loops involving AR5K_EEPROM_N_PD_CURVES are not needed as the loop index is not used outside the loops. The patch is NOT tested with real device. The following is the fuzzing report BUG: KASAN: slab-out-of-bounds in ath5k_eeprom_read_pcal_info_5111+0x126a/0x1390 [ath5k] Write of size 1 at addr ffff8880174a4d60 by task modprobe/214 CPU: 0 PID: 214 Comm: modprobe Not tainted 5.6.0 #1 Call Trace: dump_stack+0x76/0xa0 print_address_description.constprop.0+0x16/0x200 ? ath5k_eeprom_read_pcal_info_5111+0x126a/0x1390 [ath5k] ? ath5k_eeprom_read_pcal_info_5111+0x126a/0x1390 [ath5k] __kasan_report.cold+0x37/0x7c ? ath5k_eeprom_read_pcal_info_5111+0x126a/0x1390 [ath5k] kasan_report+0xe/0x20 ath5k_eeprom_read_pcal_info_5111+0x126a/0x1390 [ath5k] ? apic_timer_interrupt+0xa/0x20 ? ath5k_eeprom_init_11a_pcal_freq+0xbc0/0xbc0 [ath5k] ? ath5k_pci_eeprom_read+0x228/0x3c0 [ath5k] ath5k_eeprom_init+0x2513/0x6290 [ath5k] ? ath5k_eeprom_init_11a_pcal_freq+0xbc0/0xbc0 [ath5k] ? usleep_range+0xb8/0x100 ? apic_timer_interrupt+0xa/0x20 ? ath5k_eeprom_read_pcal_info_2413+0x2f20/0x2f20 [ath5k] ath5k_hw_init+0xb60/0x1970 [ath5k] ath5k_init_ah+0x6fe/0x2530 [ath5k] ? kasprintf+0xa6/0xe0 ? ath5k_stop+0x140/0x140 [ath5k] ? _dev_notice+0xf6/0xf6 ? apic_timer_interrupt+0xa/0x20 ath5k_pci_probe.cold+0x29a/0x3d6 [ath5k] ? ath5k_pci_eeprom_read+0x3c0/0x3c0 [ath5k] ? mutex_lock+0x89/0xd0 ? ath5k_pci_eeprom_read+0x3c0/0x3c0 [ath5k] local_pci_probe+0xd3/0x160 pci_device_probe+0x23f/0x3e0 ? pci_device_remove+0x280/0x280 ? pci_device_remove+0x280/0x280 really_probe+0x209/0x5d0

sched: Fix out-of-bound access in uclamp

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sched: Fix out-of-bound access in uclamp Util-clamp places tasks in different buckets based on their clamp values for performance reasons. However, the size of buckets is currently computed using a rounding division, which can lead to an off-by-one error in some configurations. For instance, with 20 buckets, the bucket size will be 1024/20=51. A task with a clamp of 1024 will be mapped to bucket id 1024/51=20. Sadly, correct indexes are in range [0,19], hence leading to an out of bound memory access. Clamp the bucket id to fix the issue.

comedi: aio_iiro_16: Fix bit shift out of bounds

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: comedi: aio_iiro_16: Fix bit shift out of bounds When checking for a supported IRQ number, the following test is used: if ((1 << it->options[1]) & 0xdcfc) { However, `it->options[i]` is an unchecked `int` value from userspace, so the shift amount could be negative or out of bounds. Fix the test by requiring `it->options[1]` to be within bounds before proceeding with the original test. Valid `it->options[1]` values that select the IRQ will be in the range [1,15]. The value 0 explicitly disables the use of interrupts.

xfrm: state: fix out-of-bounds read during lookup

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: xfrm: state: fix out-of-bounds read during lookup lookup and resize can run in parallel. The xfrm_state_hash_generation seqlock ensures a retry, but the hash functions can observe a hmask value that is too large for the new hlist array. rehash does: rcu_assign_pointer(net->xfrm.state_bydst, ndst) [..] net->xfrm.state_hmask = nhashmask; While state lookup does: h = xfrm_dst_hash(net, daddr, saddr, tmpl->reqid, encap_family); hlist_for_each_entry_rcu(x, net->xfrm.state_bydst + h, bydst) { This is only safe in case the update to state_bydst is larger than net->xfrm.xfrm_state_hmask (or if the lookup function gets serialized via state spinlock again). Fix this by prefetching state_hmask and the associated pointers. The xfrm_state_hash_generation seqlock retry will ensure that the pointer and the hmask will be consistent. The existing helpers, like xfrm_dst_hash(), are now unsafe for RCU side, add lockdep assertions to document that they are only safe for insert side. xfrm_state_lookup_byaddr() uses the spinlock rather than RCU. AFAICS this is an oversight from back when state lookup was converted to RCU, this lock should be replaced with RCU in a future patch.

netfs: Fix enomem handling in buffered reads

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfs: Fix enomem handling in buffered reads If netfs_read_to_pagecache() gets an error from either ->prepare_read() or from netfs_prepare_read_iterator(), it needs to decrement ->nr_outstanding, cancel the subrequest and break out of the issuing loop. Currently, it only does this for two of the cases, but there are two more that aren't handled. Fix this by moving the handling to a common place and jumping to it from all four places. This is in preference to inserting a wrapper around netfs_prepare_read_iterator() as proposed by Dmitry Antipov[1].

dm cache: fix potential out-of-bounds access on the first resume

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: dm cache: fix potential out-of-bounds access on the first resume Out-of-bounds access occurs if the fast device is expanded unexpectedly before the first-time resume of the cache table. This happens because expanding the fast device requires reloading the cache table for cache_create to allocate new in-core data structures that fit the new size, and the check in cache_preresume is not performed during the first resume, leading to the issue. Reproduce steps: 1. prepare component devices: dmsetup create cmeta --table "0 8192 linear /dev/sdc 0" dmsetup create cdata --table "0 65536 linear /dev/sdc 8192" dmsetup create corig --table "0 524288 linear /dev/sdc 262144" dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/mapper/cmeta bs=4k count=1 oflag=direct 2. load a cache table of 512 cache blocks, and deliberately expand the fast device before resuming the cache, making the in-core data structures inadequate. dmsetup create cache --notable dmsetup reload cache --table "0 524288 cache /dev/mapper/cmeta \ /dev/mapper/cdata /dev/mapper/corig 128 2 metadata2 writethrough smq 0" dmsetup reload cdata --table "0 131072 linear /dev/sdc 8192" dmsetup resume cdata dmsetup resume cache 3. suspend the cache to write out the in-core dirty bitset and hint array, leading to out-of-bounds access to the dirty bitset at offset 0x40: dmsetup suspend cache KASAN reports: BUG: KASAN: vmalloc-out-of-bounds in is_dirty_callback+0x2b/0x80 Read of size 8 at addr ffffc90000085040 by task dmsetup/90 (...snip...) It can be reproduced by following these steps(more details [1]): 1. Obtain more than 32 inputs that have similar hashes, which ends with the pattern '0xxxxxxxe6'. 2. Reboot and add the keys obtained in step 1. The reproducer demonstrates how this issue happened: 1. In the search_nested_keyrings function, when it iterates through the slots in a node(below tag ascend_to_node), if the slot pointer is meta and node->back_pointer != NULL(it means a root), it will proceed to descend_to_node. However, there is an exception. If node is the root, and one of the slots points to a shortcut, it will be treated as a keyring. 2. Whether the ptr is keyring decided by keyring_ptr_is_keyring function. However, KEYRING_PTR_SUBTYPE is 0x2UL, the same as ASSOC_ARRAY_PTR_SUBTYPE_MASK. 3. When 32 keys with the similar hashes are added to the tree, the ROOT has keys with hashes that are not similar (e.g. slot 0) and it splits NODE A without using a shortcut. When NODE A is filled with keys that all hashes are xxe6, the keys are similar, NODE A will split with a shortcut. Finally, it forms the tree as shown below, where slot 6 points to a shortcut. NODE A +------>+---+ ROOT | | 0 | xxe6 +---+ | +---+ xxxx | 0 | shortcut : : xxe6 +---+ | +---+ xxe6 : : | | | xxe6 +---+ | +---+ | 6 |---+ : : xxe6 +---+ +---+ xxe6 : : | f | xxe6 +---+ +---+ xxe6 | f | +---+ 4. As mentioned above, If a slot(slot 6) of the root points to a shortcut, it may be mistakenly transferred to a key*, leading to a read out-of-bounds read. To fix this issue, one should jump to descend_to_node if the ptr is a shortcut, regardless of whether the node is root or not. So VM_BUG_ON_PAGE(PagePoisoned(page)) is triggered. This can be reproduced by below steps: 1.Offline memory block: echo offline > /sys/devices/system/memory/memory12/state 2.Get offlined memory pfn: page-types -b n -rlN 3.Write pfn to unpoison-pfn echo <pfn> > /sys/kernel/debug/hwpoison/unpoison-pfn This scenario can be identified by pfn_to_online_page() returning NULL. And ZONE_DEVICE pages are never expected, so we can simply fail if pfn_to_online_page() == NULL to fix the bug.

drm/xe: Fix an out-of-bounds shift when invalidating TLB

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/xe: Fix an out-of-bounds shift when invalidating TLB When the size of the range invalidated is larger than rounddown_pow_of_two(ULONG_MAX), The function macro roundup_pow_of_two(length) will hit an out-of-bounds shift [1]. NFSD: Fix the behavior of READ near OFFSET_MAX

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: NFSD: Fix the behavior of READ near OFFSET_MAX Dan Aloni reports: > Due to commit 8cfb9015280d ("NFS: Always provide aligned buffers to > the RPC read layers") on the client, a read of 0xfff is aligned up > to server rsize of 0x1000. > > As a result, in a test where the server has a file of size > 0x7fffffffffffffff, and the client tries to read from the offset > 0x7ffffffffffff000, the read causes loff_t overflow in the server > and it returns an NFS code of EINVAL to the client. The client as > a result indefinitely retries the request. The Linux NFS client does not handle NFS?ERR_INVAL, even though all NFS specifications permit servers to return that status code for a READ. Instead of NFS?ERR_INVAL, have out-of-range READ requests succeed and return a short result. Set the EOF flag in the result to prevent the client from retrying the READ request. This behavior appears to be consistent with Solaris NFS servers. Note that NFSv3 and NFSv4 use u64 offset values on the wire. These must be converted to loff_t internally before use -- an implicit type cast is not adequate for this purpose. Otherwise VFS checks against sb->s_maxbytes do not work properly.

A flaw was found in dpdk in versions before 18.11.10 and before 19.11.5. A complete lack of validation of attacker-controlled parameters can lead to a buffer over read. The results of the over read are then written back to the guest virtual machine memory. This vulnerability can be used by an attacker in a virtual machine to read significant amounts of host memory. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to data confidentiality and system availability.
