iommu/vt-d: Restore context entry setup order for aliased devices

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iommu/vt-d: Restore context entry setup order for aliased devices Commit 2031c469f816 ("iommu/vt-d: Add support for static identity domain") changed the context entry setup during domain attachment from a set-and-check policy to a clear-and-reset approach. This inadvertently introduced a regression affecting PCI aliased devices behind PCIe-to-PCI bridges. Specifically, keyboard and touchpad stopped working on several Apple Macbooks with below messages: kernel: platform pxa2xx-spi.3: Adding to iommu group 20 kernel: input: Apple SPI Keyboard as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1e.3/pxa2xx-spi.3/spi_master/spi2/spi-APP000D:00/input/input0 kernel: DMAR: DRHD: handling fault status reg 3 kernel: DMAR: [DMA Read NO_PASID] Request device [00:1e.3] fault addr 0xffffa000 [fault reason 0x06] PTE Read access is not set kernel: DMAR: DRHD: handling fault status reg 3 kernel: DMAR: [DMA Read NO_PASID] Request device [00:1e.3] fault addr 0xffffa000 [fault reason 0x06] PTE Read access is not set kernel: applespi spi-APP000D:00: Error writing to device: 01 0e 00 00 kernel: DMAR: DRHD: handling fault status reg 3 kernel: DMAR: [DMA Read NO_PASID] Request device [00:1e.3] fault addr 0xffffa000 [fault reason 0x06] PTE Read access is not set kernel: DMAR: DRHD: handling fault status reg 3 kernel: applespi spi-APP000D:00: Error writing to device: 01 0e 00 00 Fix this by restoring the previous context setup order.

ipvlan: Fix use-after-free in ipvlan_get_iflink().

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipvlan: Fix use-after-free in ipvlan_get_iflink(). syzbot presented an use-after-free report [0] regarding ipvlan and linkwatch. ipvlan does not hold a refcnt of the lower device unlike vlan and macvlan. If the linkwatch work is triggered for the ipvlan dev, the lower dev might have already been freed, resulting in UAF of ipvlan->phy_dev in ipvlan_get_iflink(). We can delay the lower dev unregistration like vlan and macvlan by holding the lower dev's refcnt in dev->netdev_ops->ndo_init() and releasing it in dev->priv_destructor(). Jakub pointed out calling .ndo_XXX after unregister_netdevice() has returned is error prone and suggested [1] addressing this UAF in the core by taking commit 750e51603395 ("net: avoid potential UAF in default_operstate()") further. Let's assume unregistering devices DOWN and use RCU protection in default_operstate() not to race with the device unregistration. TQPs 0-1023 and TQPs 1024-1279 are in different BAR space addresses. However, hclge_fetch_pf_reg does not distinguish the tqp space information when reading the tqp space information. When the number of TQPs is greater than 1024, access bar space overwriting occurs. The problem of different segments has been considered during the initialization of tqp.io_base. Therefore, tqp.io_base is directly used when the queue is read in hclge_fetch_pf_reg. The error message: Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address ffff800037200000 pc : hclge_fetch_pf_reg+0x138/0x250 [hclge] lr : hclge_get_regs+0x84/0x1d0 [hclge] Call trace: hclge_fetch_pf_reg+0x138/0x250 [hclge] hclge_get_regs+0x84/0x1d0 [hclge] hns3_get_regs+0x2c/0x50 [hns3] ethtool_get_regs+0xf4/0x270 dev_ethtool+0x674/0x8a0 dev_ioctl+0x270/0x36c sock_do_ioctl+0x110/0x2a0 sock_ioctl+0x2ac/0x530 __arm64_sys_ioctl+0xa8/0x100 invoke_syscall+0x4c/0x124 el0_svc_common.constprop.0+0x140/0x15c do_el0_svc+0x30/0xd0 el0_svc+0x1c/0x2c el0_sync_handler+0xb0/0xb4 el0_sync+0x168/0x180

spi: cadence: Fix out-of-bounds array access in cdns_mrvl_xspi_setup_clock()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: spi: cadence: Fix out-of-bounds array access in cdns_mrvl_xspi_setup_clock() If requested_clk > 128, cdns_mrvl_xspi_setup_clock() iterates over the entire cdns_mrvl_xspi_clk_div_list array without breaking out early, causing 'i' to go beyond the array bounds. Fix that by stopping the loop when it gets to the last entry, clamping the clock to the minimum 6.25 MHz. bridge: cfm: Fix race condition in peer_mep deletion

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bridge: cfm: Fix race condition in peer_mep deletion When a peer MEP is being deleted, cancel_delayed_work_sync() is called on ccm_rx_dwork before freeing. However, br_cfm_frame_rx() runs in softirq context under rcu_read_lock (without RTNL) and can re-schedule ccm_rx_dwork via ccm_rx_timer_start() between cancel_delayed_work_sync() returning and kfree_rcu() being called. The following is a simple race scenario: cpu0 cpu1 mep_delete_implementation() cancel_delayed_work_sync(ccm_rx_dwork); br_cfm_frame_rx() // peer_mep still in hlist if (peer_mep->ccm_defect) ccm_rx_timer_start() queue_delayed_work(ccm_rx_dwork) hlist_del_rcu(&peer_mep->head); kfree_rcu(peer_mep, rcu); ccm_rx_work_expired() // on freed peer_mep To prevent this, cancel_delayed_work_sync() is replaced with disable_delayed_work_sync() in both peer MEP deletion paths, so that subsequent queue_delayed_work() calls from br_cfm_frame_rx() are silently rejected. The cc_peer_disable() helper retains cancel_delayed_work_sync() because it is also used for the CC enable/disable toggle path where the work must remain re-schedulable.

iommu: disable SVA when CONFIG_X86 is set

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iommu: disable SVA when CONFIG_X86 is set Patch series "Fix stale IOTLB entries for kernel address space", v7. This proposes a fix for a security vulnerability related to IOMMU Shared Virtual Addressing (SVA). In an SVA context, an IOMMU can cache kernel page table entries. When a kernel page table page is freed and reallocated for another purpose, the IOMMU might still hold stale, incorrect entries. This can be exploited to cause a use-after-free or write-after-free condition, potentially leading to privilege escalation or data corruption. This solution introduces a deferred freeing mechanism for kernel page table pages, which provides a safe window to notify the IOMMU to invalidate its caches before the page is reused. This patch (of 8): In the IOMMU Shared Virtual Addressing (SVA) context, the IOMMU hardware shares and walks the CPU's page tables. The x86 architecture maps the kernel's virtual address space into the upper portion of every process's page table. Consequently, in an SVA context, the IOMMU hardware can walk and cache kernel page table entries. The Linux kernel currently lacks a notification mechanism for kernel page table changes, specifically when page table pages are freed and reused. The IOMMU driver is only notified of changes to user virtual address mappings. This can cause the IOMMU's internal caches to retain stale entries for kernel VA. Use-After-Free (UAF) and Write-After-Free (WAF) conditions arise when kernel page table pages are freed and later reallocated. The IOMMU could misinterpret the new data as valid page table entries. The IOMMU might then walk into attacker-controlled memory, leading to arbitrary physical memory DMA access or privilege escalation. This is also a Write-After-Free issue, as the IOMMU will potentially continue to write Accessed and Dirty bits to the freed memory while attempting to walk the stale page tables. Currently, SVA contexts are unprivileged and cannot access kernel mappings. However, the IOMMU will still walk kernel-only page tables all the way down to the leaf entries, where it realizes the mapping is for the kernel and errors out. This means the IOMMU still caches these intermediate page table entries, making the described vulnerability a real concern. Disable SVA on x86 architecture until the IOMMU can receive notification to flush the paging cache before freeing the CPU kernel page table pages.

net: sched: avoid qdisc_reset_all_tx_gt() vs dequeue race for lockless qdiscs

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: sched: avoid qdisc_reset_all_tx_gt() vs dequeue race for lockless qdiscs When shrinking the number of real tx queues, netif_set_real_num_tx_queues() calls qdisc_reset_all_tx_gt() to flush qdiscs for queues which will no longer be used. qdisc_reset_all_tx_gt() currently serializes qdisc_reset() with qdisc_lock(). However, for lockless qdiscs, the dequeue path is serialized by qdisc_run_begin/end() using qdisc->seqlock instead, so qdisc_reset() can run concurrently with __qdisc_run() and free skbs while they are still being dequeued, leading to UAF. crypto: ccp - Fix use-after-free on error path

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: ccp - Fix use-after-free on error path In the error path of sev_tsm_init_locked(), the code dereferences 't' after it has been freed with kfree(). The pr_err() statement attempts to access t->tio_en and t->tio_init_done after the memory has been released. Move the pr_err() call before kfree(t) to access the fields while the memory is still valid. This issue reported by Smatch static analyser

btrfs: fix use-after-free warning in btrfs_get_or_create_delayed_node()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: btrfs: fix use-after-free warning in btrfs_get_or_create_delayed_node() Previously, btrfs_get_or_create_delayed_node() set the delayed_node's refcount before acquiring the root->delayed_nodes lock. Commit e8513c012de7 ("btrfs: implement ref_tracker for delayed_nodes") moved refcount_set inside the critical section, which means there is no longer a memory barrier between setting the refcount and setting btrfs_inode->delayed_node. Without that barrier, the stores to node->refs and btrfs_inode->delayed_node may become visible out of order. Another thread can then read btrfs_inode->delayed_node and attempt to increment a refcount that hasn't been set yet, leading to a refcounting bug and a use-after-free warning. The fix is to move refcount_set back to where it was to take advantage of the implicit memory barrier provided by lock acquisition. Because the allocations now happen outside of the lock's critical section, they can use GFP_NOFS instead of GFP_ATOMIC.

mm/slub: reset KASAN tag in defer_free() before accessing freed memory

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/slub: reset KASAN tag in defer_free() before accessing freed memory When CONFIG_SLUB_TINY is enabled, kfree_nolock() calls kasan_slab_free() before defer_free(). On ARM64 with MTE (Memory Tagging Extension), kasan_slab_free() poisons the memory and changes the tag from the original (e.g., 0xf3) to a poison tag (0xfe). When defer_free() then tries to write to the freed object to build the deferred free list via llist_add(), the pointer still has the old tag, causing a tag mismatch and triggering a KASAN use-after-free report: BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in defer_free+0x3c/0xbc mm/slub.c:6537 Write at addr f3f000000854f020 by task kworker/u8:6/983 Pointer tag: [f3], memory tag: [fe] Fix this by calling kasan_reset_tag() before accessing the freed memory. This is safe because defer_free() is part of the allocator itself and is expected to manipulate freed memory for bookkeeping purposes.

While we could "fix" with a more complex approach there could be consequences to expectations so the patch takes the preventive approach of "disallow such config". bpf, test_run: Fix use-after-free issue in eth_skb_pkt_type()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf, test_run: Fix use-after-free issue in eth_skb_pkt_type() KMSAN reported a use-after-free issue in eth_skb_pkt_type()[1]. The cause of the issue was that eth_skb_pkt_type() accessed skb's data that didn't contain an Ethernet header. This occurs when bpf_prog_test_run_xdp() passes an invalid value as the user_data argument to bpf_test_init(). Fix this by returning an error when user_data is less than ETH_HLEN in bpf_test_init(). Additionally, remove the check for "if (user_size > size)" as it is unnecessary. Use-after-free in Linux kernel's io_uring subsystem

A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux Kernel io_uring system can be exploited to achieve local privilege escalation. The io_file_get_fixed function lacks the presence of ctx->uring_lock which can lead to a Use-After-Free vulnerability due a race condition with fixed files getting unregistered. We recommend upgrading past commit da24142b1ef9fd5d36b76e36bab328a5b27523e8.

Bluetooth: btusb: revert use of devm_kzalloc in btusb

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: btusb: revert use of devm_kzalloc in btusb This reverts commit 98921dbd00c4e ("Bluetooth: Use devm_kzalloc in btusb.c file"). In btusb_probe(), we use devm_kzalloc() to allocate the btusb data. This ties the lifetime of all the btusb data to the binding of a driver to one interface, INTF. In a driver that binds to other interfaces, ISOC and DIAG, this is an accident waiting to happen. The issue is revealed in btusb_disconnect(), where calling usb_driver_release_interface(&btusb_driver, data->intf) will have devm free the data that is also being used by the other interfaces of the driver that may not be released yet. To fix this, revert the use of devm and go back to freeing memory explicitly.

clk: samsung: exynos-clkout: Assign .num before accessing .hws

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: clk: samsung: exynos-clkout: Assign .num before accessing .hws Commit f316cdff8d67 ("clk: Annotate struct clk_hw_onecell_data with __counted_by") annotated the hws member of 'struct clk_hw_onecell_data' with __counted_by, which informs the bounds sanitizer (UBSAN_BOUNDS) about the number of elements in .hws[], so that it can warn when .hws[] is accessed out of bounds. As noted in that change, the __counted_by member must be initialized with the number of elements before the first array access happens, otherwise there will be a warning from each access prior to the initialization because the number of elements is zero. This occurs in exynos_clkout_probe() due to .num being assigned after .hws[] has been accessed: UBSAN: array-index-out-of-bounds in drivers/clk/samsung/clk-exynos-clkout.c:178:18 index 0 is out of range for type 'clk_hw *[*]' Move the .num initialization to before the first access of .hws[], clearing up the warning.

Use after free in io_uring in the Linux Kernel

There is a logic error in io_uring's implementation which can be used to trigger a use-after-free vulnerability leading to privilege escalation. In the io_prep_async_work function the assumption that the last io_grab_identity call cannot return false is not true, and in this case the function will use the init_cred or the previous linked requests identity to do operations instead of using the current identity. This can lead to reference counting issues causing use-after-free. We recommend upgrading past version 5.10.161.

Input: lkkbd - disable pending work before freeing device

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Input: lkkbd - disable pending work before freeing device lkkbd_interrupt() schedules lk->tq via schedule_work(), and the work handler lkkbd_reinit() dereferences the lkkbd structure and its serio/input_dev fields. lkkbd_disconnect() and error paths in lkkbd_connect() free the lkkbd structure without preventing the reinit work from being queued again until serio_close() returns. This can allow the work handler to run after the structure has been freed, leading to a potential use-after-free. Use disable_work_sync() instead of cancel_work_sync() to ensure the reinit work cannot be re-queued, and call it both in lkkbd_disconnect() and in lkkbd_connect() error paths after serio_open().

drm/xe/oa: Fix potential UAF in xe_oa_add_config_ioctl()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/xe/oa: Fix potential UAF in xe_oa_add_config_ioctl() In xe_oa_add_config_ioctl(), we accessed oa_config->id after dropping metrics_lock. Since this lock protects the lifetime of oa_config, an attacker could guess the id and call xe_oa_remove_config_ioctl() with perfect timing, freeing oa_config before we dereference it, leading to a potential use-after-free. Fix this by caching the id in a local variable while holding the lock. v2: (Matt A) - Dropped mutex_unlock(&oa->metrics_lock) ordering change from xe_oa_remove_config_ioctl() (cherry picked from commit 28aeaed130e8e587fd1b73b6d66ca41ccc5a1a31)

RDMA/bnxt_re: Fix OOB write in bnxt_re_copy_err_stats()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/bnxt_re: Fix OOB write in bnxt_re_copy_err_stats() Commit ef56081d1864 ("RDMA/bnxt_re: RoCE related hardware counters update") added three new counters and placed them after BNXT_RE_OUT_OF_SEQ_ERR. BNXT_RE_OUT_OF_SEQ_ERR acts as a boundary marker for allocating hardware statistics with different num_counters values on chip_gen_p5_p7 devices. As a result, BNXT_RE_NUM_STD_COUNTERS are used when allocating hw_stats, which leads to an out-of-bounds write in bnxt_re_copy_err_stats(). The counters BNXT_RE_REQ_CQE_ERROR, BNXT_RE_RESP_CQE_ERROR, and BNXT_RE_RESP_REMOTE_ACCESS_ERRS are applicable to generic hardware, not only p5/p7 devices. Fix this by moving these counters before BNXT_RE_OUT_OF_SEQ_ERR so they are included in the generic counter set.

iommu/mediatek: fix use-after-free on probe deferral

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iommu/mediatek: fix use-after-free on probe deferral The driver is dropping the references taken to the larb devices during probe after successful lookup as well as on errors. This can potentially lead to a use-after-free in case a larb device has not yet been bound to its driver so that the iommu driver probe defers. Fix this by keeping the references as expected while the iommu driver is bound.

net: dsa: properly keep track of conduit reference

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: dsa: properly keep track of conduit reference Problem description ------------------- DSA has a mumbo-jumbo of reference handling of the conduit net device and its kobject which, sadly, is just wrong and doesn't make sense. There are two distinct problems. 1. The OF path, which uses of_find_net_device_by_node(), never releases the elevated refcount on the conduit's kobject. Nominally, the OF and non-OF paths should result in objects having identical reference counts taken, and it is already suspicious that dsa_dev_to_net_device() has a put_device() call which is missing in dsa_port_parse_of(), but we can actually even verify that an issue exists. With CONFIG_DEBUG_KOBJECT_RELEASE=y, if we run this command "before" and "after" applying this patch: (unbind the conduit driver for net device eno2) echo 0000:00:00.2 > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/fsl_enetc/unbind we see these lines in the output diff which appear only with the patch applied: kobject: 'eno2' (ffff002009a3a6b8): kobject_release, parent 0000000000000000 (delayed 1000) kobject: '109' (ffff0020099d59a0): kobject_release, parent 0000000000000000 (delayed 1000) 2. After we find the conduit interface one way (OF) or another (non-OF), it can get unregistered at any time, and DSA remains with a long-lived, but in this case stale, cpu_dp->conduit pointer. Holding the net device's underlying kobject isn't actually of much help, it just prevents it from being freed (but we never need that kobject directly). What helps us to prevent the net device from being unregistered is the parallel netdev reference mechanism (dev_hold() and dev_put()). Actually we actually use that netdev tracker mechanism implicitly on user ports since commit 2f1e8ea726e9 ("net: dsa: link interfaces with the DSA master to get rid of lockdep warnings"), via netdev_upper_dev_link(). But time still passes at DSA switch probe time between the initial of_find_net_device_by_node() code and the user port creation time, time during which the conduit could unregister itself and DSA wouldn't know about it. So we have to run of_find_net_device_by_node() under rtnl_lock() to prevent that from happening, and release the lock only with the netdev tracker having acquired the reference. Do we need to keep the reference until dsa_unregister_switch() / dsa_switch_shutdown()? 1: Maybe yes. A switch device will still be registered even if all user ports failed to probe, see commit 86f8b1c01a0a ("net: dsa: Do not make user port errors fatal"), and the cpu_dp->conduit pointers remain valid. I haven't audited all call paths to see whether they will actually use the conduit in lack of any user port, but if they do, it seems safer to not rely on user ports for that reference. 2. Definitely yes. We support changing the conduit which a user port is associated to, and we can get into a situation where we've moved all user ports away from a conduit, thus no longer hold any reference to it via the net device tracker. But we shouldn't let it go nonetheless - see the next change in relation to dsa_tree_find_first_conduit() and LAG conduits which disappear. We have to be prepared to return to the physical conduit, so the CPU port must explicitly keep another reference to it. This is also to say: the user ports and their CPU ports may not always keep a reference to the same conduit net device, and both are needed. As for the conduit's kobject for the /sys/class/net/ entry, we don't care about it, we can release it as soon as we hold the net device object itself. History and blame attribution ----------------------------- The code has been refactored so many times, it is very difficult to follow and properly attribute a blame, but I'll try to make a short history which I hope to be correct. We have two distinct probing paths: - one for OF, introduced in 2016 i ---truncated---
