Use after free in io_uring in the Linux Kernel

A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux Kernel io_uring subsystem can be exploited to achieve local privilege escalation. Racing a io_uring cancel poll request with a linked timeout can cause a UAF in a hrtimer. We recommend upgrading past commit ef7dfac51d8ed961b742218f526bd589f3900a59 (4716c73b188566865bdd79c3a6709696a224ac04 for 5.10 stable and 0e388fce7aec40992eadee654193cad345d62663 for 5.15 stable).

usb: gadget: uvc: use correct buffer size when parsing configfs lists

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: gadget: uvc: use correct buffer size when parsing configfs lists This commit fixes uvc gadget support on 32-bit platforms. Commit 0df28607c5cb ("usb: gadget: uvc: Generalise helper functions for reuse") introduced a helper function __uvcg_iter_item_entries() to aid with parsing lists of items on configfs attributes stores. This function is a generalization of another very similar function, which used a stack-allocated temporary buffer of fixed size for each item in the list and used the sizeof() operator to check for potential buffer overruns. The new function was changed to allocate the now variably sized temp buffer on heap, but wasn't properly updated to also check for max buffer size using the computed size instead of sizeof() operator. As a result, the maximum item size was 7 (plus null terminator) on 64-bit platforms, and 3 on 32-bit ones. While 7 is accidentally just barely enough, 3 is definitely too small for some of UVC configfs attributes. For example, dwFrameInteval, specified in 100ns units, usually has 6-digit item values, e.g. 166666 for 60fps.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ppdev: Add an error check in register_device In register_device, the return value of ida_simple_get is unchecked, in witch ida_simple_get will use an invalid index value. To address this issue, index should be checked after ida_simple_get. A flaw was found in the Linux Kernel in RDS (Reliable Datagram Sockets) protocol. The rds_rm_zerocopy_callback() uses list_entry() on the head of a list causing a type confusion. Local user can trigger this with rds_message_put(). Type confusion leads to `struct rds_msg_zcopy_info *info` actually points to something else that is potentially controlled by local user. It is known how to trigger this, which causes an out of bounds access, and a lock corruption.

A flaw was found in the crypto subsystem of the Linux kernel before version kernel-4.15-rc4. The "null skcipher" was being dropped when each af_alg_ctx was freed instead of when the aead_tfm was freed. This can cause the null skcipher to be freed while it is still in use leading to a local user being able to crash the system or possibly escalate privileges.

netfilter: nf_tables: do not allow SET_ID to refer to another table

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: nf_tables: do not allow SET_ID to refer to another table When doing lookups for sets on the same batch by using its ID, a set from a different table can be used. Then, when the table is removed, a reference to the set may be kept after the set is freed, leading to a potential use-after-free. When looking for sets by ID, use the table that was used for the lookup by name, and only return sets belonging to that same table. This fixes CVE-2022-2586, also reported as ZDI-CAN-17470.

media: dvb-core: Fix double free in dvb_register_device()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: dvb-core: Fix double free in dvb_register_device() In function dvb_register_device() -> dvb_register_media_device() -> dvb_create_media_entity(), dvb->entity is allocated and initialized. If the initialization fails, it frees the dvb->entity, and return an error code. The caller takes the error code and handles the error by calling dvb_media_device_free(), which unregisters the entity and frees the field again if it is not NULL. As dvb->entity may not NULLed in dvb_create_media_entity() when the allocation of dvbdev->pad fails, a double free may occur. This may also cause an Use After free in media_device_unregister_entity(). Fix this by storing NULL to dvb->entity when it is freed.

coresight: Clear the connection field properly

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: coresight: Clear the connection field properly coresight devices track their connections (output connections) and hold a reference to the fwnode. When a device goes away, we walk through the devices on the coresight bus and make sure that the references are dropped. This happens both ways: a) For all output connections from the device, drop the reference to the target device via coresight_release_platform_data() b) Iterate over all the devices on the coresight bus and drop the reference to fwnode if *this* device is the target of the output connection, via coresight_remove_conns()->coresight_remove_match(). However, the coresight_remove_match() doesn't clear the fwnode field, after dropping the reference, this causes use-after-free and additional refcount drops on the fwnode. e.g., if we have two devices, A and B, with a connection, A -> B. If we remove B first, B would clear the reference on B, from A via coresight_remove_match(). But when A is removed, it still has a connection with fwnode still pointing to B. Thus it tries to drops the reference in coresight_release_platform_data(), raising the bells like : [ 91.990153] ------------[ cut here ]------------ [ 91.990163] refcount_t: addition on 0; use-after-free. block, bfq: fix uaf for bfqq in bfq_exit_icq_bfqq

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: block, bfq: fix uaf for bfqq in bfq_exit_icq_bfqq Commit 64dc8c732f5c ("block, bfq: fix possible uaf for 'bfqq->bic'") will access 'bic->bfqq' in bic_set_bfqq(), however, bfq_exit_icq_bfqq() can free bfqq first, and then call bic_set_bfqq(), which will cause uaf. Fix the problem by moving bfq_exit_bfqq() behind bic_set_bfqq().

An issue was discovered in xenvif_set_hash_mapping in drivers/net/xen-netback/hash.c in the Linux kernel through 4.18.1, as used in Xen through 4.11.x and other products. The Linux netback driver allows frontends to control mapping of requests to request queues. When processing a request to set or change this mapping, some input validation (e.g., for an integer overflow) was missing or flawed, leading to OOB access in hash handling. A malicious or buggy frontend may cause the (usually privileged) backend to make out of bounds memory accesses, potentially resulting in one or more of privilege escalation, Denial of Service (DoS), or information leaks.

efi: ssdt: Don't free memory if ACPI table was loaded successfully

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: efi: ssdt: Don't free memory if ACPI table was loaded successfully Amadeusz reports KASAN use-after-free errors introduced by commit 3881ee0b1edc ("efi: avoid efivars layer when loading SSDTs from variables"). The problem appears to be that the memory that holds the new ACPI table is now freed unconditionally, instead of only when the ACPI core reported a failure to load the table. So let's fix this, by omitting the kfree() on success.

media: si470x: Fix use-after-free in si470x_int_in_callback()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: si470x: Fix use-after-free in si470x_int_in_callback() syzbot reported use-after-free in si470x_int_in_callback() [1]. This indicates that urb->context, which contains struct si470x_device object, is freed when si470x_int_in_callback() is called. The cause of this issue is that si470x_int_in_callback() is called for freed urb. si470x_usb_driver_probe() calls si470x_start_usb(), which then calls usb_submit_urb() and si470x_start(). If si470x_start_usb() fails, si470x_usb_driver_probe() doesn't kill urb, but it just frees struct si470x_device object, as depicted below: si470x_usb_driver_probe() ... si470x_start_usb() ... usb_submit_urb() retval = si470x_start() return retval if (retval < 0) free struct si470x_device object, but don't kill urb This patch fixes this issue by killing urb when si470x_start_usb() fails and urb is submitted. If si470x_start_usb() fails and urb is not submitted, i.e. submitting usb fails, it just frees struct si470x_device object.

io_uring/af_unix: defer registered files gc to io_uring release

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: io_uring/af_unix: defer registered files gc to io_uring release Instead of putting io_uring's registered files in unix_gc() we want it to be done by io_uring itself. The trick here is to consider io_uring registered files for cycle detection but not actually putting them down. Because io_uring can't register other ring instances, this will remove all refs to the ring file triggering the ->release path and clean up with io_ring_ctx_free(). android: binder: stop saving a pointer to the VMA

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: android: binder: stop saving a pointer to the VMA Do not record a pointer to a VMA outside of the mmap_lock for later use. This is unsafe and there are a number of failure paths *after* the recorded VMA pointer may be freed during setup. There is no callback to the driver to clear the saved pointer from generic mm code. Furthermore, the VMA pointer may become stale if any number of VMA operations end up freeing the VMA so saving it was fragile to being with. Instead, change the binder_alloc struct to record the start address of the VMA and use vma_lookup() to get the vma when needed. Add lockdep mmap_lock checks on updates to the vma pointer to ensure the lock is held and depend on that lock for synchronization of readers and writers - which was already the case anyways, so the smp_wmb()/smp_rmb() was not necessary. [akpm@linux-foundation.org: fix drivers/android/binder_alloc_selftest.c]

drm/panfrost: Fix GEM handle creation ref-counting

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/panfrost: Fix GEM handle creation ref-counting panfrost_gem_create_with_handle() previously returned a BO but with the only reference being from the handle, which user space could in theory guess and release, causing a use-after-free. Additionally if the call to panfrost_gem_mapping_get() in panfrost_ioctl_create_bo() failed then a(nother) reference on the BO was dropped. The _create_with_handle() is a problematic pattern, so ditch it and instead create the handle in panfrost_ioctl_create_bo(). If the call to panfrost_gem_mapping_get() fails then this means that user space has indeed gone behind our back and freed the handle. In which case just return an error code.

rpmsg: char: Avoid double destroy of default endpoint

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: rpmsg: char: Avoid double destroy of default endpoint The rpmsg_dev_remove() in rpmsg_core is the place for releasing this default endpoint. So need to avoid destroying the default endpoint in rpmsg_chrdev_eptdev_destroy(), this should be the same as rpmsg_eptdev_release(). Otherwise there will be double destroy issue that ept->refcount report warning: refcount_t: underflow; use-after-free. blk-mq: use quiesced elevator switch when reinitializing queues

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: blk-mq: use quiesced elevator switch when reinitializing queues The hctx's run_work may be racing with the elevator switch when reinitializing hardware queues. The queue is merely frozen in this context, but that only prevents requests from allocating and doesn't stop the hctx work from running. The work may get an elevator pointer that's being torn down, and can result in use-after-free errors and kernel panics (example below). Use the quiesced elevator switch instead, and make the previous one static since it is now only used locally. nvme nvme0: resetting controller nvme nvme0: 32/0/0 default/read/poll queues BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000008 #PF: supervisor read access in kernel mode #PF: error_code(0x0000) - not-present page PGD 80000020c8861067 P4D 80000020c8861067 PUD 250f8c8067 PMD 0 Oops: 0000 [#1] SMP PTI Workqueue: kblockd blk_mq_run_work_fn RIP: 0010:kyber_has_work+0x29/0x70 ... RDMA/srpt: Fix a use-after-free

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/srpt: Fix a use-after-free Change the LIO port members inside struct srpt_port from regular members into pointers. Allocate the LIO port data structures from inside srpt_make_tport() and free these from inside srpt_make_tport(). Keep struct srpt_device as long as either an RDMA port or a LIO target port is associated with it. This patch decouples the lifetime of struct srpt_port (controlled by the RDMA core) and struct srpt_port_id (controlled by LIO). drm/nouveau: fix a use-after-free in nouveau_gem_prime_import_sg_table()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/nouveau: fix a use-after-free in nouveau_gem_prime_import_sg_table() nouveau_bo_init() is backed by ttm_bo_init() and ferries its return code back to the caller. On failures, ttm will call nouveau_bo_del_ttm() and free the memory. Thus, when nouveau_bo_init() returns an error, the gem object has already been released. Then the call to nouveau_bo_ref() will use the freed "nvbo->bo" and lead to a use-after-free bug. We should delete the call to nouveau_bo_ref() to avoid the use-after-free.

usbnet: Fix linkwatch use-after-free on disconnect

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usbnet: Fix linkwatch use-after-free on disconnect usbnet uses the work usbnet_deferred_kevent() to perform tasks which may sleep. On disconnect, completion of the work was originally awaited in ->ndo_stop(). But in 2003, that was moved to ->disconnect() by historic commit "[PATCH] USB: usbnet, prevent exotic rtnl deadlock": https://git.kernel.org/tglx/history/c/0f138bbfd83c The change was made because back then, the kernel's workqueue implementation did not allow waiting for a single work. One had to wait for completion of *all* work by calling flush_scheduled_work(), and that could deadlock when waiting for usbnet_deferred_kevent() with rtnl_mutex held in ->ndo_stop(). The commit solved one problem but created another: It causes a use-after-free in USB Ethernet drivers aqc111.c, asix_devices.c, ax88179_178a.c, ch9200.c and smsc75xx.c: * If the drivers receive a link change interrupt immediately before disconnect, they raise EVENT_LINK_RESET in their (non-sleepable) ->status() callback and schedule usbnet_deferred_kevent(). * usbnet_deferred_kevent() invokes the driver's ->link_reset() callback, which calls netif_carrier_{on,off}(). * That in turn schedules the work linkwatch_event(). Because usbnet_deferred_kevent() is awaited after unregister_netdev(), netif_carrier_{on,off}() may operate on an unregistered netdev and linkwatch_event() may run after free_netdev(), causing a use-after-free. In 2010, usbnet was changed to only wait for a single instance of usbnet_deferred_kevent() instead of *all* work by commit 23f333a2bfaf ("drivers/net: don't use flush_scheduled_work()"). Unfortunately the commit neglected to move the wait back to ->ndo_stop(). Rectify that omission at long last.

kernfs: fix use-after-free in __kernfs_remove

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: kernfs: fix use-after-free in __kernfs_remove Syzkaller managed to trigger concurrent calls to kernfs_remove_by_name_ns() for the same file resulting in a KASAN detected use-after-free. An issue was discovered in the Linux kernel through 4.17.11, as used in Xen through 4.11.x. The xen_failsafe_callback entry point in arch/x86/entry/entry_64.S does not properly maintain RBX, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (uninitialized memory usage and system crash). Within Xen, 64-bit x86 PV Linux guest OS users can trigger a guest OS crash or possibly gain privileges.
