FreeRDP: H.264 YUV Buffer Dimension Desync - Heap OOB Write

FreeRDP is a free implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol. Prior to version 3.24.2, in yuv_ensure_buffer() in libfreerdp/codec/h264.c, h264->width and h264->height are updated before the reallocation loop. If any winpr_aligned_recalloc() call fails, the function returns FALSE but width/height are already inflated. This issue has been patched in version 3.24.2.

FreeRDP: ClearCodec resize_vbar_entry() Heap OOB Write

FreeRDP is a free implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol. Prior to version 3.24.2, in resize_vbar_entry() in libfreerdp/codec/clear.c, vBarEntry->size is updated to vBarEntry->count before the winpr_aligned_recalloc() call. If realloc fails, size is inflated while pixels still points to the old, smaller buffer. On a subsequent call where count <= size (the inflated value), realloc is skipped. The caller then writes count * bpp bytes of attacker-controlled pixel data into the undersized buffer, causing a heap buffer overflow. This issue has been patched in version 3.24.2.

FreeRDP: Heap out-of-bounds write in RemoteFX (RFX) Cache Bitmap V3 decode

FreeRDP is a free implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol. Prior to 3.27.1, FreeRDP clients launched with the non-default /cache:codec:rfx option pass desktop stride and height to RemoteFX decoding for Cache Bitmap V3 data while allocating bitmap->data only for the smaller DstWidth and DstHeight in gdi_Bitmap_Decompress, allowing a malicious RDP server to trigger a heap out-of-bounds write with attacker-controlled offset and content. This issue is fixed in version 3.27.1.

FreeRDP RDPEAR NDR ref-id aliasing causes client-side UAF/double-free and type confusion

FreeRDP is a free implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol. Prior to 3.26.0, FreeRDP's RDPEAR NDR parser accepts one non-null NDR pointer ref-id for multiple logical pointer fields without tracking the pointed object's expected NDR type or ownership. When the same ref-id is reused across two pointer fields, the parser assigns the same heap object to both output fields. The generic destructor later walks each field independently and destroys/frees both pointers. This causes a malicious-server-triggerable heap use-after-free / double-free in the FreeRDP client's RDPEAR authentication-redirection path. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.26.0.

FreeRDP Windows Client before 3.29.0 Heap Buffer Overflow via Cliprdr

FreeRDP Windows client before 3.29.0 contains a heap buffer overflow vulnerability in the clipboard virtual channel when processing CLIPRDR_FILE_CONTENTS_RESPONSE PDUs without validating the server-provided size against the destination buffer. A malicious RDP server can send a response with a data payload significantly larger than requested, causing arbitrary heap memory corruption that may enable remote code execution when a user performs a paste operation.

FreeRDP before 3.28.0 Heap Buffer Overflow via crypto_rsa_common

FreeRDP before 3.28.0 (affected <=3.27.1) contains a heap-based buffer overflow in crypto_rsa_common() (libfreerdp/crypto/crypto.c). The function writes the modular-exponentiation result into the caller's output buffer via BN_bn2bin() and only afterward checks output_length > out_length, so out-of-bounds bytes are written before the bounds check. On the server side, when a client selects RDP Standard Security, the encrypted client random is decrypted into a fixed 32-byte buffer. Because the server publishes its RSA public key, an unauthenticated attacker can forge a ciphertext whose decrypted value is up to the full modulus length (e.g. 256 bytes for RSA-2048), overflowing the 32-byte heap buffer by up to ~224 attacker-controlled bytes pre-authentication, resulting in denial of service.

FreeRDP has a `size_t` underflow in ADPCM decoder leads to heap-buffer-overflow write

FreeRDP is a free implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol. Prior to 3.24.0, a size_t underflow in the IMA-ADPCM and MS-ADPCM audio decoders leads to heap-buffer-overflow write via the RDPSND audio channel. In libfreerdp/codec/dsp.c, the IMA-ADPCM and MS-ADPCM decoders subtract block header sizes from a size_t variable without checking for underflow. When nBlockAlign (received from the server) is set such that size % block_size == 0 triggers the header parsing at a point where size is smaller than the header (4 or 8 bytes), the subtraction wraps size to ~SIZE_MAX. The while (size > 0) loop then continues for an astronomical number of iterations. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.24.0.

FreeRDP: Integer overflow leading to heap buffer overflow in Orders Delta Points parsing

FreeRDP is a free implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol. Prior to 3.28.0 on 32-bit builds, FreeRDP clients contain an integer overflow in update_read_delta_points in libfreerdp/core/orders.c when multiplying an attacker-controlled point count by sizeof(DELTA_POINT), allowing a malicious RDP peer to allocate an undersized heap buffer and then write beyond it during initialization. FreeRDP RDPGFX CacheToSurface heap-buffer-overflow via clamped-rectangle validation bypass

FreeRDP is a free implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol. Prior to 3.26.0, a malicious RDP server can trigger a heap-buffer-overflow write in the FreeRDP client by sending crafted RDPGFX PDUs. The bug is in gdi_CacheToSurface: it validates a destination rectangle that is clamped to UINT16_MAX, but then performs the copy using the original cacheEntry->width/height. This can cause a large out-of-bounds heap write and may lead to client crashes or code execution. This bug is reachable from a malicious RDP server, but only when the client has RDPGFX enabled. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.26.0.

FreeRDP cliprdr server heap-buffer-overflow via undersized capabilitySetLength in CB_CLIP_CAPS

FreeRDP is a free implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol. Prior to 3.26.0, a malicious RDP client can trigger a heap-buffer-overflow write in FreeRDP's server-side clipboard (cliprdr) channel by sending a CB_CLIP_CAPS PDU with a too-small capabilitySetLength. This can crash the server process (remote DoS) and may be exploitable for code execution because it corrupts heap memory. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.26.0.

FreeRDP integer Overflow leading to Heap Overflow

FreeRDP is a set of free and open source remote desktop protocol library and clients. In affected versions an integer overflow in `freerdp_bitmap_planar_context_reset` leads to heap-buffer overflow. This affects FreeRDP based clients. FreeRDP based server implementations and proxy are not affected. A malicious server could prepare a `RDPGFX_RESET_GRAPHICS_PDU` to allocate too small buffers, possibly triggering later out of bound read/write. Data extraction over network is not possible, the buffers are used to display an image. This issue has been addressed in version 2.11.5 and 3.2.0. Users are advised to upgrade. there are no know workarounds for this vulnerability.

FreeRDP has a Heap Buffer Overflow in nsc_process_message() via Unchecked SURFACE_BITS_COMMAND Bitmap Dimensions

FreeRDP is a free implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol. Prior to 3.24.0, the gdi_surface_bits() function processes SURFACE_BITS_COMMAND messages sent by the RDP server. When the command is handled using NSCodec, the bmp.width and bmp.height values provided by the server are not properly validated against the actual desktop dimensions. A malicious RDP server can supply crafted bmp.width and bmp.height values that exceed the expected surface size. Because these values are used during bitmap decoding and memory operations without proper bounds checking, this can lead to a heap buffer overflow. Since the attacker can also control the associated pixel data transmitted by the server, the overflow may be exploitable to overwrite adjacent heap memory. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.24.0.

FreeRDP - Heap-buffer-overflow in gdi_CacheToSurface via rectangle validation bypass

FreeRDP before 3.26.0 contains a heap-buffer-overflow vulnerability in gdi_CacheToSurface that allows remote attackers to write out-of-bounds heap memory. The vulnerability occurs because rectangle validation clamps coordinates to UINT16_MAX but performs copy operations using unclamped cache entry dimensions, enabling malicious RDP servers to trigger large out-of-bounds writes and potentially achieve remote code execution or client crash.

libssh2 Heap Buffer Overflow via ETM Cipher Negotiation

libssh2 through 1.11.1, fixed in commit 42e33d8, contains a pre-authentication heap buffer overflow vulnerability that allows a malicious SSH server to corrupt heap metadata in any connecting client by sending a packet with a packet_length smaller than the cipher's block size during Encrypt-then-MAC cipher negotiation. In the fullpacket() function in src/transport.c, the ETM path allocates a buffer of packet_length bytes but copies blocksize minus one bytes via memcpy, causing an overflow that on 32-bit glibc writes attacker-controlled bytes into an adjacent chunk's SIZE field, enabling tcache bin confusion, overlapping live objects, and function pointer overwrite during the session handshake before authentication.

EOL .NET 6.0 Runtime Remote Code Execution Vulnerability

A vulnerability (CVE-2025-21172) exists in msdia140.dll due to integer overflow and heap-based overflow. Per CWE-122: Heap-based Buffer Overflow, a heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc().‍ Per CWE-190: Integer Overflow or Wraparound, is when a product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This occurs when an integer value is incremented to a value that is too large to store in the associated representation. When this occurs, the value may become a very small or negative number. NOTE: This CVE affects only End Of Life (EOL) software components. The vendor, Microsoft, has indicated there will be no future updates nor support provided upon inquiry.

OpenH264 Decoding Functions Heap Overflow Vulnerability

OpenH264 is a free license codec library which supports H.264 encoding and decoding. A vulnerability in the decoding functions of OpenH264 codec library could allow a remote, unauthenticated attacker to trigger a heap overflow. This vulnerability is due to a race condition between a Sequence Parameter Set (SPS) memory allocation and a subsequent non Instantaneous Decoder Refresh (non-IDR) Network Abstraction Layer (NAL) unit memory usage. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by crafting a malicious bitstream and tricking a victim user into processing an arbitrary video containing the malicious bistream. An exploit could allow the attacker to cause an unexpected crash in the victim's user decoding client and, possibly, perform arbitrary commands on the victim's host by abusing the heap overflow. This vulnerability affects OpenH264 2.5.0 and earlier releases. Both Scalable Video Coding (SVC) mode and Advanced Video Coding (AVC) mode are affected by this vulnerability. OpenH264 software releases 2.6.0 and later contained the fix for this vulnerability. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability. ### For more information If you have any questions or comments about this advisory: * [Open an issue in cisco/openh264](https://github.com/cisco/openh264/issues) * Email Cisco Open Source Security ([oss-security@cisco.com](mailto:oss-security@cisco.com)) and Cisco PSIRT ([psirt@cisco.com](mailto:psirt@cisco.com)) ### Credits: * **Research:** Octavian Guzu and Andrew Calvano of Meta * **Fix ideation:** Philipp Hancke and Shyam Sadhwani of Meta * **Fix implementation:** Benzheng Zhang (@BenzhengZhang) * **Release engineering:** Benzheng Zhang (@BenzhengZhang)

Kitty has a Heap Buffer Overflow in its Graphics Protocol Handler

Kitty is a cross-platform GPU based terminal. Versions 0.46.2 and below contain a heap buffer overflow in load_image_data() that allows any process which can write to the terminal's stdin to crash kitty immediately. The vulnerability is triggered by a single APC graphics protocol command with a PNG format declaration (f=100) whose payload exceeds twice the initial buffer capacity. The overflow is attacker-controlled in both length and content, causing DoS and potentially escalation to RCE itself. This issue has been fixed in version 0.47.0.
