nvmem: Fix shift-out-of-bound (UBSAN) with byte size cells

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nvmem: Fix shift-out-of-bound (UBSAN) with byte size cells If a cell has 'nbits' equal to a multiple of BITS_PER_BYTE the logic *p &= GENMASK((cell->nbits%BITS_PER_BYTE) - 1, 0); will become undefined behavior because nbits modulo BITS_PER_BYTE is 0, and we subtract one from that making a large number that is then shifted more than the number of bits that fit into an unsigned long. UBSAN reports this problem: UBSAN: shift-out-of-bounds in drivers/nvmem/core.c:1386:8 shift exponent 64 is too large for 64-bit type 'unsigned long' CPU: 6 PID: 7 Comm: kworker/u16:0 Not tainted 5.15.0-rc3+ #9 Hardware name: Google Lazor (rev3+) with KB Backlight (DT) Workqueue: events_unbound deferred_probe_work_func Call trace: dump_backtrace+0x0/0x170 show_stack+0x24/0x30 dump_stack_lvl+0x64/0x7c dump_stack+0x18/0x38 ubsan_epilogue+0x10/0x54 __ubsan_handle_shift_out_of_bounds+0x180/0x194 __nvmem_cell_read+0x1ec/0x21c nvmem_cell_read+0x58/0x94 nvmem_cell_read_variable_common+0x4c/0xb0 nvmem_cell_read_variable_le_u32+0x40/0x100 a6xx_gpu_init+0x170/0x2f4 adreno_bind+0x174/0x284 component_bind_all+0xf0/0x264 msm_drm_bind+0x1d8/0x7a0 try_to_bring_up_master+0x164/0x1ac __component_add+0xbc/0x13c component_add+0x20/0x2c dp_display_probe+0x340/0x384 platform_probe+0xc0/0x100 really_probe+0x110/0x304 __driver_probe_device+0xb8/0x120 driver_probe_device+0x4c/0xfc __device_attach_driver+0xb0/0x128 bus_for_each_drv+0x90/0xdc __device_attach+0xc8/0x174 device_initial_probe+0x20/0x2c bus_probe_device+0x40/0xa4 deferred_probe_work_func+0x7c/0xb8 process_one_work+0x128/0x21c process_scheduled_works+0x40/0x54 worker_thread+0x1ec/0x2a8 kthread+0x138/0x158 ret_from_fork+0x10/0x20 Fix it by making sure there are any bits to mask out.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: staging: media: atomisp: Disallow all private IOCTLs Disallow all private IOCTLs. These aren't quite as safe as one could assume of IOCTL handlers; disable them for now. Instead of removing the code, return in the beginning of the function if cmd is non-zero in order to keep static checkers happy.

perf/arm-cmn: Reject unsupported hardware configurations

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: perf/arm-cmn: Reject unsupported hardware configurations So far we've been fairly lax about accepting both unknown CMN models (at least with a warning), and unknown revisions of those which we do know, as although things do frequently change between releases, typically enough remains the same to be somewhat useful for at least some basic bringup checks. However, we also make assumptions of the maximum supported sizes and numbers of things in various places, and there's no guarantee that something new might not be bigger and lead to nasty array overflows. Make sure we only try to run on things that actually match our assumptions and so will not risk memory corruption. We have at least always failed on completely unknown node types, so update that error message for clarity and consistency too.

net: mana: Fix double destroy_workqueue on service rescan PCI path

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: mana: Fix double destroy_workqueue on service rescan PCI path While testing corner cases in the driver, a use-after-free crash was found on the service rescan PCI path. When mana_serv_reset() calls mana_gd_suspend(), mana_gd_cleanup() destroys gc->service_wq. If the subsequent mana_gd_resume() fails with -ETIMEDOUT or -EPROTO, the code falls through to mana_serv_rescan() which triggers pci_stop_and_remove_bus_device(). This invokes the PCI .remove callback (mana_gd_remove), which calls mana_gd_cleanup() a second time, attempting to destroy the already- freed workqueue. Fix this by NULL-checking gc->service_wq in mana_gd_cleanup() and setting it to NULL after destruction. aio: fix use-after-free due to missing POLLFREE handling

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: aio: fix use-after-free due to missing POLLFREE handling signalfd_poll() and binder_poll() are special in that they use a waitqueue whose lifetime is the current task, rather than the struct file as is normally the case. This is okay for blocking polls, since a blocking poll occurs within one task; however, non-blocking polls require another solution. This solution is for the queue to be cleared before it is freed, by sending a POLLFREE notification to all waiters. Unfortunately, only eventpoll handles POLLFREE. A second type of non-blocking poll, aio poll, was added in kernel v4.18, and it doesn't handle POLLFREE. This allows a use-after-free to occur if a signalfd or binder fd is polled with aio poll, and the waitqueue gets freed. Fix this by making aio poll handle POLLFREE. A patch by Ramji Jiyani <ramjiyani@google.com> (https://lore.kernel.org/r/20211027011834.2497484-1-ramjiyani@google.com) tried to do this by making aio_poll_wake() always complete the request inline if POLLFREE is seen. However, that solution had two bugs. First, it introduced a deadlock, as it unconditionally locked the aio context while holding the waitqueue lock, which inverts the normal locking order. Second, it didn't consider that POLLFREE notifications are missed while the request has been temporarily de-queued. The second problem was solved by my previous patch. This patch then properly fixes the use-after-free by handling POLLFREE in a deadlock-free way. It does this by taking advantage of the fact that freeing of the waitqueue is RCU-delayed, similar to what eventpoll does.

sctp: do asoc update earlier in sctp_sf_do_dupcook_a

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sctp: do asoc update earlier in sctp_sf_do_dupcook_a There's a panic that occurs in a few of envs, the call trace is as below: [] general protection fault, ... 0x29acd70f1000a: 0000 [#1] SMP PTI [] RIP: 0010:sctp_ulpevent_notify_peer_addr_change+0x4b/0x1fa [sctp] [] sctp_assoc_control_transport+0x1b9/0x210 [sctp] [] sctp_do_8_2_transport_strike.isra.16+0x15c/0x220 [sctp] [] sctp_cmd_interpreter.isra.21+0x1231/0x1a10 [sctp] [] sctp_do_sm+0xc3/0x2a0 [sctp] [] sctp_generate_timeout_event+0x81/0xf0 [sctp] This is caused by a transport use-after-free issue. When processing a duplicate COOKIE-ECHO chunk in sctp_sf_do_dupcook_a(), both COOKIE-ACK and SHUTDOWN chunks are allocated with the transort from the new asoc. However, later in the sideeffect machine, the old asoc is used to send them out and old asoc's shutdown_last_sent_to is set to the transport that SHUTDOWN chunk attached to in sctp_cmd_setup_t2(), which actually belongs to the new asoc. After the new_asoc is freed and the old asoc T2 timeout, the old asoc's shutdown_last_sent_to that is already freed would be accessed in sctp_sf_t2_timer_expire(). Thanks Alexander and Jere for helping dig into this issue. To fix it, this patch is to do the asoc update first, then allocate the COOKIE-ACK and SHUTDOWN chunks with the 'updated' old asoc. This would make more sense, as a chunk from an asoc shouldn't be sent out with another asoc. We had fixed quite a few issues caused by this.

An issue was discovered in net/ipv6/ip6mr.c in the Linux kernel before 4.11. By setting a specific socket option, an attacker can control a pointer in kernel land and cause an inet_csk_listen_stop general protection fault, or potentially execute arbitrary code under certain circumstances. The issue can be triggered as root (e.g., inside a default LXC container or with the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability) or after namespace unsharing. This occurs because sk_type and protocol are not checked in the appropriate part of the ip6_mroute_* functions. NOTE: this affects Linux distributions that use 4.9.x longterm kernels before 4.9.187.

workqueue: Put the pwq after detaching the rescuer from the pool

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: workqueue: Put the pwq after detaching the rescuer from the pool The commit 68f83057b913("workqueue: Reap workers via kthread_stop() and remove detach_completion") adds code to reap the normal workers but mistakenly does not handle the rescuer and also removes the code waiting for the rescuer in put_unbound_pool(), which caused a use-after-free bug reported by Cheung Wall. To avoid the use-after-free bug, the pool’s reference must be held until the detachment is complete. Therefore, move the code that puts the pwq after detaching the rescuer from the pool.

usb: cdc-acm: Check control transfer buffer size before access

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: cdc-acm: Check control transfer buffer size before access If the first fragment is shorter than struct usb_cdc_notification, we can't calculate an expected_size. Log an error and discard the notification instead of reading lengths from memory outside the received data, which can lead to memory corruption when the expected_size decreases between fragments, causing `expected_size - acm->nb_index` to wrap. This issue has been present since the beginning of git history; however, it only leads to memory corruption since commit ea2583529cd1 ("cdc-acm: reassemble fragmented notifications"). A mitigating factor is that acm_ctrl_irq() can only execute after userspace has opened /dev/ttyACM*; but if ModemManager is running, ModemManager will do that automatically depending on the USB device's vendor/product IDs and its other interfaces.

btrfs: fix use-after-free on inode when scanning root during em shrinking

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: btrfs: fix use-after-free on inode when scanning root during em shrinking At btrfs_scan_root() we are accessing the inode's root (and fs_info) in a call to btrfs_fs_closing() after we have scheduled the inode for a delayed iput, and that can result in a use-after-free on the inode in case the cleaner kthread does the iput before we dereference the inode in the call to btrfs_fs_closing(). The cause of the issue was that eth_skb_pkt_type() accessed skb's data that didn't contain an Ethernet header. This occurs when bpf_prog_test_run_xdp() passes an invalid value as the user_data argument to bpf_test_init(). Fix this by returning an error when user_data is less than ETH_HLEN in bpf_test_init(). Additionally, remove the check for "if (user_size > size)" as it is unnecessary. wifi: rtw89: fix race between cancel_hw_scan and hw_scan completion

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: rtw89: fix race between cancel_hw_scan and hw_scan completion The rtwdev->scanning flag isn't protected by mutex originally, so cancel_hw_scan can pass the condition, but suddenly hw_scan completion unset the flag and calls ieee80211_scan_completed() that will free local->hw_scan_req. Then, cancel_hw_scan raises null-ptr-deref and use-after-free. Fix it by moving the check condition to where protected by mutex. nilfs2: protect access to buffers with no active references

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nilfs2: protect access to buffers with no active references nilfs_lookup_dirty_data_buffers(), which iterates through the buffers attached to dirty data folios/pages, accesses the attached buffers without locking the folios/pages. For data cache, nilfs_clear_folio_dirty() may be called asynchronously when the file system degenerates to read only, so nilfs_lookup_dirty_data_buffers() still has the potential to cause use after free issues when buffers lose the protection of their dirty state midway due to this asynchronous clearing and are unintentionally freed by try_to_free_buffers(). Eliminate this race issue by adjusting the lock section in this function.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipv6: mcast: extend RCU protection in igmp6_send() igmp6_send() can be called without RTNL or RCU being held. Extend RCU protection so that we can safely fetch the net pointer and avoid a potential UAF. Note that we no longer can use sock_alloc_send_skb() because ipv6.igmp_sk uses GFP_KERNEL allocations which can sleep. Instead use alloc_skb() and charge the net->ipv6.igmp_sk socket under RCU protection.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netem: Update sch->q.qlen before qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog() qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog() notifies parent qdisc only if child qdisc becomes empty, therefore we need to reduce the backlog of the child qdisc before calling it. HID: appletb-kbd: fix slab use-after-free bug in appletb_kbd_probe

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: HID: appletb-kbd: fix slab use-after-free bug in appletb_kbd_probe In probe appletb_kbd_probe() a "struct appletb_kbd *kbd" is allocated via devm_kzalloc() to store touch bar keyboard related data. Later on if backlight_device_get_by_name() finds a backlight device with name "appletb_backlight" a timer (kbd->inactivity_timer) is setup with appletb_inactivity_timer() and the timer is armed to run after appletb_tb_dim_timeout (60) seconds. A use-after-free is triggered when failure occurs after the timer is armed. This ultimately means probe failure occurs and as a result the "struct appletb_kbd *kbd" which is device managed memory is freed. After 60 seconds the timer will have expired and __run_timers will attempt to access the timer (kbd->inactivity_timer) however the kdb structure has been freed causing a use-after free. To fix this call timer_delete_sync() to deactivate the timer. Another small issue is that timer_delete_sync is called unconditionally in appletb_kbd_remove(), fix this by checking for a valid kbd->backlight_dev before calling timer_delete_sync.

ALSA: pcm: fix use-after-free on linked stream runtime in snd_pcm_drain()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: pcm: fix use-after-free on linked stream runtime in snd_pcm_drain() In the drain loop, the local variable 'runtime' is reassigned to a linked stream's runtime (runtime = s->runtime at line 2157). After releasing the stream lock at line 2169, the code accesses runtime->no_period_wakeup, runtime->rate, and runtime->buffer_size (lines 2170-2178) — all referencing the linked stream's runtime without any lock or refcount protecting its lifetime. A concurrent close() on the linked stream's fd triggers snd_pcm_release_substream() → snd_pcm_drop() → pcm_release_private() → snd_pcm_unlink() → snd_pcm_detach_substream() → kfree(runtime). No synchronization prevents kfree(runtime) from completing while the drain path dereferences the stale pointer. Fix by caching the needed runtime fields (no_period_wakeup, rate, buffer_size) into local variables while still holding the stream lock, and using the cached values after the lock is released.

arm64: cacheinfo: Avoid out-of-bounds write to cacheinfo array

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: arm64: cacheinfo: Avoid out-of-bounds write to cacheinfo array The loop that detects/populates cache information already has a bounds check on the array size but does not account for cache levels with separate data/instructions cache. Fix this by incrementing the index for any populated leaf (instead of any populated level).

NFC: nci: Add bounds checking in nci_hci_create_pipe()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: NFC: nci: Add bounds checking in nci_hci_create_pipe() The "pipe" variable is a u8 which comes from the network. If it's more than 127, then it results in memory corruption in the caller, nci_hci_connect_gate().

partitions: mac: fix handling of bogus partition table

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: partitions: mac: fix handling of bogus partition table Fix several issues in partition probing: - The bailout for a bad partoffset must use put_dev_sector(), since the preceding read_part_sector() succeeded. - If the partition table claims a silly sector size like 0xfff bytes (which results in partition table entries straddling sector boundaries), bail out instead of accessing out-of-bounds memory. - We must not assume that the partition table contains proper NUL termination - use strnlen() and strncmp() instead of strlen() and strcmp().

iommufd/iova_bitmap: Fix shift-out-of-bounds in iova_bitmap_offset_to_index()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iommufd/iova_bitmap: Fix shift-out-of-bounds in iova_bitmap_offset_to_index() Resolve a UBSAN shift-out-of-bounds issue in iova_bitmap_offset_to_index() where shifting the constant "1" (of type int) by bitmap->mapped.pgshift (an unsigned long value) could result in undefined behavior. The constant "1" defaults to a 32-bit "int", and when "pgshift" exceeds 31 (e.g., pgshift = 63) the shift operation overflows, as the result cannot be represented in a 32-bit type. To resolve this, the constant is updated to "1UL", promoting it to an unsigned long type to match the operand's type.

rxrpc: Also unshare DATA/RESPONSE packets when paged frags are present

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: rxrpc: Also unshare DATA/RESPONSE packets when paged frags are present The DATA-packet handler in rxrpc_input_call_event() and the RESPONSE handler in rxrpc_verify_response() copy the skb to a linear one before calling into the security ops only when skb_cloned() is true. An skb that is not cloned but still carries externally-owned paged fragments (e.g. SKBFL_SHARED_FRAG set by splice() into a UDP socket via __ip_append_data, or a chained skb_has_frag_list()) falls through to the in-place decryption path, which binds the frag pages directly into the AEAD/skcipher SGL via skb_to_sgvec(). Extend the gate to also unshare when skb_has_frag_list() or skb_has_shared_frag() is true. This catches the splice-loopback vector and other externally-shared frag sources while preserving the zero-copy fast path for skbs whose frags are kernel-private (e.g. NIC page_pool RX, GRO). The OOM/trace handling already in place is reused.
