A vulnerability in Google Cloud Platform's guest-oslogin versions between 20190304 and 20200507 allows a user that is only granted the role "roles/compute.osLogin" to escalate privileges to root. Using their membership to the "adm" group, users with this role are able to read the DHCP XID from the systemd journal. Using the DHCP XID, it is then possible to set the IP address and hostname of the instance to any value, which is then stored in /etc/hosts. An attacker can then point metadata.google.internal to an arbitrary IP address and impersonate the GCE metadata server which make it is possible to instruct the OS Login PAM module to grant administrative privileges. All images created after 2020-May-07 (20200507) are fixed, and if you cannot update, we recommend you edit /etc/group/security.conf and remove the "adm" user from the OS Login entry.

Dell Digital Delivery versions prior to 3.5.2015 contain an incorrect default permissions vulnerability. A locally authenticated low-privileged malicious user could exploit this vulnerability to run an arbitrary executable with administrative privileges on the affected system.
Adobe Genuine Integrity Service versions Version 6.4 and earlier have an insecure file permissions vulnerability. Successful exploitation could lead to privilege escalation.
PBackupVSS.exe in Matrix42 Empirum before 25.5 and 26.x before 26.2 creates a named pipe (\\.\pipe\PBackupVSS) with a DACL that grants GENERIC_READ and GENERIC_WRITE permissions to all authenticated users. A low-privileged local attacker can connect to this pipe and send crafted IPC messages to trigger execution of arbitrary commands with SYSTEM privileges via an untrusted search path. This allows privilege escalation by placing a malicious shadow.exe in a controlled working directory.
A vulnerability has been identified in DIGSI 4 (All versions < V4.94 SP1 HF 1). Several folders in the %PATH% are writeable by normal users. As these folders are included in the search for dlls, an attacker could place dlls there with code executed by SYSTEM.
The Gw2-64.exe in Guild Wars 2 launcher version 106916 suffers from an elevation of privileges vulnerability which can be used by an "Authenticated User" to modify the existing executable file with a binary of his choice. The vulnerability exist due to the improper permissions, with the 'F' flag (Full Control) for 'Everyone' group, making the entire directory 'Guild Wars 2' and its files and sub-dirs world-writable.
PC Protect Antivirus v4.14.31 installs by default to %PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\PCProtect with very weak folder permissions, granting any user full permission "Everyone: (F)" to the contents of the directory and its subfolders. In addition, the program installs a service called SecurityService that runs as LocalSystem. This allows any user to escalate privileges to "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" by substituting the service's binary with a Trojan horse.
Dell PowerProtect Data Manager, version(s) 19.19 and 19.20, Hyper-V contain(s) an Incorrect Default Permissions vulnerability. A low privileged attacker with local access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to Elevation of privileges.
Dell PowerProtect Data Manager, Generic Application Agent, version(s) 19.19 and 19.20, contain(s) an Incorrect Default Permissions vulnerability. A low privileged attacker with local access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to Code execution.
An insecure file system permissions vulnerability in MSP360 Backup 8.0 allows a low privileged user to execute commands with SYSTEM level privileges using a specially crafted file with an arbitrary file backup target. Upgrade to MSP360 Backup 8.1.1.19 (released on 2025-05-15).
Incorrect default permissions in the Intel(R) Board ID Tool version v.1.01 may allow an authenticated user to potentially enable escalation of privilege via local access.
Autodesk Licensing Installer was found to be vulnerable to privilege escalation issues. A malicious user with limited privileges could run any number of tools on a system to identify services that are configured with weak permissions and are running under elevated privileges. These weak permissions could allow all users on the operating system to modify the service configuration and take ownership of the service.
OpenZFS before 2.0.0-rc1, when used on FreeBSD, misinterprets group permissions as user permissions, as demonstrated by mode 0770 being equivalent to mode 0777.
An insecure file system permissions vulnerability in MSP360 Backup 4.3.1.115 allows a low privileged user to execute commands with root privileges in the 'Online Backup' folder. Upgrade to MSP360 Backup 4.4 (released on 2025-04-22).
IBM QRadar 7.3.0 to 7.3.3 Patch 2 could allow a local user to gain escalated privileges due to weak file permissions. IBM X-ForceID: 175846.
An elevation of privilege vulnerability exists in Windows Setup in the way it handles permissions. A locally authenticated attacker could run arbitrary code with elevated system privileges. After successfully exploiting the vulnerability, an attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights. The security update addresses the vulnerability by ensuring Windows Setup properly handles permissions.
IDrive before 6.7.3.19 on Windows installs by default to %PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\IDriveWindows with weak folder permissions granting any user modify permission (i.e., NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users:(OI)(CI)(M)) to the contents of the directory and its sub-folders. In addition, the program installs a service called IDriveService that runs as LocalSystem. Thus, any standard user can escalate privileges to NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM by substituting the service's binary with a malicious one.
Insecure permissions in Nakivo Backup & Replication Director version 9.4.0.r43656 on Linux allow local users to access the Nakivo Director web interface and gain root privileges. This occurs because the database containing the users of the web application and the password-recovery secret value is readable.
An issue was discovered in Canonical Multipass for macOS before version 1.16.3 due to an incomplete fix for CVE-2025-5199. While the patch in version 1.16.0 updated the ownership of the multipassd daemon binary to root:wheel, five co-located binaries (multipass, qemu-img, qemu-system-aarch64, qemu-system-x86_64, and sshfs_server) in /Library/Application Support/com.canonical.multipass/bin/ retain ownership by the installing user and remain writable. Because the root LaunchDaemon (com.canonical.multipassd.plist) configures a PATH environment variable that prioritizes this user-writable directory and invokes these auxiliary binaries by their bare names, a local attacker can replace an auxiliary binary (such as qemu-img) with a malicious wrapper. When the root daemon subsequently triggers the binary during routine execution (e.g., via multipass launch), the malicious code executes with root privileges, leading to local privilege escalation.
An Incorrect File Handling Permission bug exists on the N-central Windows Agent and Probe that, in the right circumstances, can allow a local low-level user to run commands with elevated permissions.
An exploitable local privilege elevation vulnerability exists in the file system permissions of Sytech XL Reporter v14.0.1 install directory. Depending on the vector chosen, an attacker can overwrite service executables and execute arbitrary code with privileges of user set to run the service or replace other files within the installation folder, which would allow for local privilege escalation.
