Path Traversal in some REST methods leading to file upload to arbitrary places

OpenOlat is a web-basedlearning management system. A path traversal vulnerability exists in OpenOlat prior to versions 15.5.12 and 16.0.5. By providing a filename that contains a relative path as a parameter in some REST methods, it is possible to create directory structures and write files anywhere on the target system. The attack could be used to write files anywhere in the web root folder or outside, depending on the configuration of the system and the properly configured permission of the application server user. The attack requires an OpenOlat user account, an enabled REST API and the rights on a business object to call the vulnerable REST calls. The problem is fixed in version 15.5.12 and 16.0.5. There is a workaround available. The vulnerability requires the REST module to be enabled. Disabling the REST module or limiting the REST module via some firewall or web-server access rules to be accessed only be trusted systems will mitigate the risk.

Path Traversal in Archive Handling Leading to Code Execution

OpenOLAT is a web-based learning management system (LMS). A path traversal vulnerability exists in versions prior to 15.3.18, 15.5.3, and 16.0.0. Using a specially prepared ZIP file, it is possible to overwrite any file that is writable by the application server user (e.g. the tomcat user). Depending on the configuration this can be limited to files of the OpenOlat user data directory, however, if not properly set up, the attack could also be used to overwrite application server config files, java code or even operating system files. The attack could be used to corrupt or modify any OpenOlat file such as course structures, config files or temporary test data. Those attack would require in-depth knowledge of the installation and thus more theoretical. If the app server configuration allows the execution of jsp files and the path to the context is known, it is also possible to execute java code. If the app server runs with the same user that is used to deploy the OpenOlat code or has write permissions on the OpenOlat code files and the path to the context is know, code injection is possible. The attack requires an OpenOlat user account to upload a ZIP file and trigger the unzip method. It can not be exploited by unregistered users. The problem is fixed in versions 15.3.18, 15.5.3 and 16.0.0. There are no known workarounds aside from upgrading.

Path Traversal in Folder Component Leading to Local File Inclusion

OpenOlat is a web-based e-learning platform for teaching, learning, assessment and communication, an LMS, a learning management system. In affected versions by manipulating the HTTP request an attacker can modify the path of a requested file download in the folder component to point to anywhere on the target system. The attack could be used to read any file accessible in the web root folder or outside, depending on the configuration of the system and the properly configured permission of the application server user. The attack requires an OpenOlat user account or the enabled guest user feature together with the usage of the folder component in a course. The attack does not allow writing of arbitrary files, it allows only reading of files and also only ready of files that the attacker knows the exact path which is very unlikely at least for OpenOlat data files. The problem is fixed in version 15.5.8 and 16.0.1 It is advised to upgrade to version 16.0.x. There are no known workarounds to fix this problem, an upgrade is necessary.

DPanel has an arbitrary file deletion vulnerability in /api/common/attach/delete interface

DPanel is an open source server management panel written in Go. Prior to 1.9.2, DPanel has an arbitrary file deletion vulnerability in the /api/common/attach/delete interface. Authenticated users can delete arbitrary files on the server via path traversal. When a user logs into the administrative backend, this interface can be used to delete files. The vulnerability lies in the Delete function within the app/common/http/controller/attach.go file. The path parameter submitted by the user is directly passed to storage.Local{}.GetSaveRealPath and subsequently to os.Remove without proper sanitization or checking for path traversal characters (../). And the helper function in common/service/storage/local.go uses filepath.Join, which resolves ../ but does not enforce a chroot/jail. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.9.2.

argoproj/argo-workflows is vulnerable to RCE via ZipSlip and symbolic links

Argo Workflows is an open source container-native workflow engine for orchestrating parallel jobs on Kubernetes. Versions 3.6.13 and below and versions 3.7.0 through 3.7.4, contain unsafe untar code that handles symbolic links in archives. Concretely, the computation of a link's target and the subsequent check are flawed. An attacker can overwrite the file /var/run/argo/argoexec with a script of their choice, which would be executed at the pod's start. The patch deployed against CVE-2025-62156 is ineffective against malicious archives containing symbolic links. This issue is fixed in versions 3.6.14 and 3.7.5.

Warehouse Management System 1.2 contains an authenticated arbitrary file deletion vulnerability. The /goods/deleteGoods endpoint accepts a user-controlled goodsimg parameter, which is directly concatenated with the server's UPLOAD_PATH and passed to File.delete() without validation. TinyPNG <= 3.6.13 - Authenticated (Author+) Arbitrary File Deletion via 'convert.path' in 'tiny_compress_images' Post Meta

The TinyPNG – JPEG, PNG & WebP image compression plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to arbitrary file deletion due to insufficient file path validation in the delete_converted_image_size function in all versions up to, and including, 3.6.13. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with author-level access and above, to delete arbitrary files on the server, which can easily lead to remote code execution when the right file is deleted (such as wp-config.php). An attacker can exploit this by injecting an arbitrary server file path into the 'convert.path' field of the 'tiny_compress_images' post meta on an attachment they own, then triggering attachment deletion to invoke the vulnerable code path.

wpForo Forum <= 3.0.5 - Authenticated (Subscriber+) Arbitrary File Deletion via Custom Profile Field File Path

The wpForo Forum plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Arbitrary File Deletion in versions up to and including 3.0.5. This is due to two compounding flaws: the Members::update() method does not validate or restrict the value of file-type custom profile fields, allowing authenticated users to store an arbitrary path instead of a legitimate upload path; and the wpforo_fix_upload_dir() sanitization function in ucf_file_delete() only remaps paths that match the expected pattern, and it is passed directly to the unlink() function. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to delete arbitrary files on the server, which can easily lead to remote code execution when the right file is deleted (such as wp-config.php). Note: The vulnerability requires a file custom field, which requires the wpForo - User Custom Fields addon plugin.

SeaweedFS < 4.34 - Cross-Bucket Object Deletion via DeleteObjects Request-Body Keys

SeaweedFS before 4.34 contains a path traversal vulnerability in the S3 gateway DeleteMultipleObjectsHandler that allows authenticated S3 principals with write access to a single bucket to delete arbitrary objects in other tenants' buckets by supplying object keys containing ../ sequences in the DeleteObjects XML request body. Attackers can bypass authorization controls through a confused deputy condition, as the validateRequestPath middleware only inspects URL-captured path variables and never examines request-body keys, allowing the filer path to collapse directory traversal sequences and resolve deletions outside the authorized bucket.

A vulnerability has been identified in SINEC NMS (All versions < V1.0 SP1 Update 1), SINEMA Server (All versions < V14.0 SP2 Update 2). When uploading files to an affected system using a zip container, the system does not correctly check if the relative file path of the extracted files is still within the intended target directory. With this an attacker could create or overwrite arbitrary files on an affected system. This type of vulnerability is also known as 'Zip-Slip'. (ZDI-CAN-12054)

Path traversal

go-ipfs is an open-source golang implementation of IPFS which is a global, versioned, peer-to-peer filesystem. In go-ipfs before version 0.8.0-rc1, it is possible for path traversal to occur with DAGs containing relative paths during retrieval. This can cause files to be overwritten, or written to incorrect output directories. The issue can only occur when a get is done on an affected DAG. This is fixed in version 0.8.0-rc1.

gonic has arbitrary file write in createPlaylist: any authenticated user can write playlist M3U content to attacker-controlled path on the host

gonic is a music streaming server / free-software subsonic server API implementation. Prior to version 0.21.0, a logic error in `ServeCreateOrUpdatePlaylist` allows any authenticated Subsonic user (including non-admin) to write playlist M3U content to an attacker-controlled absolute filesystem path on the gonic host, and to create intermediate directories with `0o777` permissions. The bug is independent of CVE-2026-49338 and CVE-2026-49339. It is an unreachable guard clause combined with no path containment in `Store.Write`. Version 0.21.0 patches the issue.

Uptime Kuma authenticated path traversal via plugin repository name may lead to unavailability or data loss

Uptime Kuma, a self-hosted monitoring tool, has a path traversal vulnerability in versions prior to 1.22.1. Uptime Kuma allows authenticated users to install plugins from an official list of plugins. This feature is currently disabled in the web interface, but the corresponding API endpoints are still available after login. Before a plugin is downloaded, the plugin installation directory is checked for existence. If it exists, it's removed before the plugin installation. Because the plugin is not validated against the official list of plugins or sanitized, the check for existence and the removal of the plugin installation directory are prone to path traversal. This vulnerability allows an authenticated attacker to delete files from the server Uptime Kuma is running on. Depending on which files are deleted, Uptime Kuma or the whole system may become unavailable due to data loss.

Apache Airflow Google provider: Path traversal via GCS object names → local/SFTP filesystem (GCSToSFTPOperator + GCSTimeSpanFileTransformOperator)

Apache Airflow's Google provider operators `GCSToSFTPOperator` and `GCSTimeSpanFileTransformOperator` joined GCS object names returned by the bucket listing API directly to a destination filesystem path without normalisation or containment check. A user with write access to the source GCS bucket (typically a different trust principal than the DAG author — partner uploads, ingest-only service accounts, public-data buckets) could create an object whose name contains `..` segments and cause the DAG run to write the downloaded blob outside the configured destination (the SFTP `destination_path` for `GCSToSFTPOperator`; the worker-local temp directory for `GCSTimeSpanFileTransformOperator`), enabling overwrite of arbitrary files on the SFTP server or the worker host. Affects deployments that ingest from buckets writable by less-trusted principals. Users are advised to upgrade to `apache-airflow-providers-google` 22.2.1 or later.

Open WebUI: Open WebUI Arbitrary File Write, Delete via Path Traversal

Open WebUI is a self-hosted artificial intelligence platform designed to operate entirely offline. Prior to 0.6.10, when uploading an audio file, the name of the file is derived from the original HTTP upload request and is not validated or sanitized. This allows for users to upload files with names containing dot-segments in the file path and traverse out of the intended uploads directory. Effectively, users can upload files anywhere on the filesystem the user running the web server has permission. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.6.10.

HTMLy CMS 3.1.1 Path Traversal via oldfile Parameter in Autosave

HTMLy CMS through 3.1.1 contains a path traversal vulnerability that allows low-privileged authenticated attackers to relocate arbitrary files by supplying directory traversal sequences in the oldfile parameter at the admin autosave endpoint. Attackers can pass unsanitized traversal sequences directly to file_exists() and rename() functions in admin.php without canonicalization or directory boundary enforcement to cause unintended relocation of any file writable by the web server process to an attacker-specified draft location.

Perfmatters <= 2.5.9 - Authenticated (Subscriber+) Arbitrary File Overwrite via 'snippets' Parameter

The Perfmatters plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to arbitrary file overwrite via path traversal in all versions up to, and including, 2.5.9. This is due to the `PMCS::action_handler()` method processing the bulk action `activate`/`deactivate` handlers without any authorization check or nonce verification. The `$_GET['snippets'][]` values are passed unsanitized to `Snippet::activate()`/`Snippet::deactivate()` which call `Snippet::update()` then `file_put_contents()` with the traversed path. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Subscriber-level access and above, to overwrite arbitrary files on the server with a fixed PHP docblock content, potentially causing denial of service by corrupting critical files like `.htaccess` or `index.php`.

HHVM supports the use of an "admin" server which accepts administrative requests over HTTP. One of those request handlers, dump-pcre-cache, can be used to output cached regular expressions from the current execution context into a file. The handler takes a parameter which specifies where on the filesystem to write this data. The parameter is not validated, allowing a malicious user to overwrite arbitrary files where the user running HHVM has write access. This issue affects HHVM versions prior to 4.56.2, all versions between 4.57.0 and 4.78.0, as well as 4.79.0, 4.80.0, 4.81.0, 4.82.0, and 4.83.0.

WP-Optimize <= 4.5.2 - Authenticated (Author+) Arbitrary File Deletion via 'original-file' Post Meta

The WP-Optimize – Cache, Compress images, Minify & Clean database to boost page speed & performance plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to arbitrary file deletion due to insufficient file path validation in the unscheduled_original_file_deletion function in all versions up to, and including, 4.5.2 This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with author-level access and above, to delete arbitrary files on the server, which can easily lead to remote code execution when the right file is deleted (such as wp-config.php). This is possible because 'original-file' is a public (non-protected) meta key — it does not begin with an underscore — allowing Authors to freely create or modify it on their own attachment posts via the standard Edit Media form or the REST API.

AVideo Affected by Arbitrary File Deletion via Path Traversal in CloneSite deleteDump Parameter

WWBN AVideo is an open source video platform. Prior to version 26.0, the `deleteDump` parameter in `plugin/CloneSite/cloneServer.json.php` is passed directly to `unlink()` without any path sanitization. An attacker with valid clone credentials can use path traversal sequences (e.g., `../../`) to delete arbitrary files on the server, including critical application files such as `configuration.php`, causing complete denial of service or enabling further attacks by removing security-critical files. Version 26.0 fixes the issue.
