crypto: ccp - Use kzalloc for sev ioctl interfaces to prevent kernel memory leak

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: ccp - Use kzalloc for sev ioctl interfaces to prevent kernel memory leak For some sev ioctl interfaces, input may be passed that is less than or equal to SEV_FW_BLOB_MAX_SIZE, but larger than the data that PSP firmware returns. In this case, kmalloc will allocate memory that is the size of the input rather than the size of the data. Since PSP firmware doesn't fully overwrite the buffer, the sev ioctl interfaces with the issue may return uninitialized slab memory. Currently, all of the ioctl interfaces in the ccp driver are safe, but to prevent future problems, change all ioctl interfaces that allocate memory with kmalloc to use kzalloc and memset the data buffer to zero in sev_ioctl_do_platform_status.

kunit: executor: Fix a memory leak on failure in kunit_filter_tests

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: kunit: executor: Fix a memory leak on failure in kunit_filter_tests It's possible that memory allocation for 'filtered' will fail, but for the copy of the suite to succeed. In this case, the copy could be leaked. Properly free 'copy' in the error case for the allocation of 'filtered' failing. Note that there may also have been a similar issue in kunit_filter_subsuites, before it was removed in "kunit: flatten kunit_suite*** to kunit_suite** in .kunit_test_suites". This was reported by clang-analyzer via the kernel test robot, here: https://lore.kernel.org/all/c8073b8e-7b9e-0830-4177-87c12f16349c@intel.com/ And by smatch via Dan Carpenter and the kernel test robot: https://lore.kernel.org/all/202207101328.ASjx88yj-lkp@intel.com/

cxl/region: Fix cxl_region leak, cleanup targets at region delete

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cxl/region: Fix cxl_region leak, cleanup targets at region delete When a region is deleted any targets that have been previously assigned to that region hold references to it. Trigger those references to drop by detaching all targets at unregister_region() time. Otherwise that region object will leak as userspace has lost the ability to detach targets once region sysfs is torn down.

vlan: fix memory leak in vlan_newlink()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vlan: fix memory leak in vlan_newlink() Blamed commit added back a bug I fixed in commit 9bbd917e0bec ("vlan: fix memory leak in vlan_dev_set_egress_priority") If a memory allocation fails in vlan_changelink() after other allocations succeeded, we need to call vlan_dev_free_egress_priority() to free all allocated memory because after a failed ->newlink() we do not call any methods like ndo_uninit() or dev->priv_destructor(). i2c: piix4: Fix a memory leak in the EFCH MMIO support

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: i2c: piix4: Fix a memory leak in the EFCH MMIO support The recently added support for EFCH MMIO regions introduced a memory leak in that code path. The leak is caused by the fact that release_resource() merely removes the resource from the tree but does not free its memory. We need to call release_mem_region() instead, which does free the memory. As a nice side effect, this brings back some symmetry between the legacy and MMIO paths.

tracing/histograms: Fix memory leak problem

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tracing/histograms: Fix memory leak problem This reverts commit 46bbe5c671e06f070428b9be142cc4ee5cedebac. As commit 46bbe5c671e0 ("tracing: fix double free") said, the "double free" problem reported by clang static analyzer is: > In parse_var_defs() if there is a problem allocating > var_defs.expr, the earlier var_defs.name is freed. > This free is duplicated by free_var_defs() which frees > the rest of the list. However, if there is a problem allocating N-th var_defs.expr: + in parse_var_defs(), the freed 'earlier var_defs.name' is actually the N-th var_defs.name; + then in free_var_defs(), the names from 0th to (N-1)-th are freed; IF ALLOCATING PROBLEM HAPPENED HERE!!! -+ \ | 0th 1th (N-1)-th N-th V +-------------+-------------+-----+-------------+----------- var_defs: | name | expr | name | expr | ... | name | expr | name | /// +-------------+-------------+-----+-------------+----------- These two frees don't act on same name, so there was no "double free" problem before. Conversely, after that commit, we get a "memory leak" problem because the above "N-th var_defs.name" is not freed. If enable CONFIG_DEBUG_KMEMLEAK and inject a fault at where the N-th var_defs.expr allocated, then execute on shell like: $ echo 'hist:key=call_site:val=$v1,$v2:v1=bytes_req,v2=bytes_alloc' > \ /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/events/kmem/kmalloc/trigger Then kmemleak reports: unreferenced object 0xffff8fb100ef3518 (size 8): comm "bash", pid 196, jiffies 4295681690 (age 28.538s) hex dump (first 8 bytes): 76 31 00 00 b1 8f ff ff v1...... backtrace: [<0000000038fe4895>] kstrdup+0x2d/0x60 [<00000000c99c049a>] event_hist_trigger_parse+0x206f/0x20e0 [<00000000ae70d2cc>] trigger_process_regex+0xc0/0x110 [<0000000066737a4c>] event_trigger_write+0x75/0xd0 [<000000007341e40c>] vfs_write+0xbb/0x2a0 [<0000000087fde4c2>] ksys_write+0x59/0xd0 [<00000000581e9cdf>] do_syscall_64+0x3a/0x80 [<00000000cf3b065c>] entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x46/0xb0

ppp: fix memory leak in pad_compress_skb

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ppp: fix memory leak in pad_compress_skb If alloc_skb() fails in pad_compress_skb(), it returns NULL without releasing the old skb. The caller does: skb = pad_compress_skb(ppp, skb); if (!skb) goto drop; drop: kfree_skb(skb); When pad_compress_skb() returns NULL, the reference to the old skb is lost and kfree_skb(skb) ends up doing nothing, leading to a memory leak. Align pad_compress_skb() semantics with realloc(): only free the old skb if allocation and compression succeed. At the call site, use the new_skb variable so the original skb is not lost when pad_compress_skb() fails.

KVM: x86: Forcibly leave nested virt when SMM state is toggled

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: x86: Forcibly leave nested virt when SMM state is toggled Forcibly leave nested virtualization operation if userspace toggles SMM state via KVM_SET_VCPU_EVENTS or KVM_SYNC_X86_EVENTS. If userspace forces the vCPU out of SMM while it's post-VMXON and then injects an SMI, vmx_enter_smm() will overwrite vmx->nested.smm.vmxon and end up with both vmxon=false and smm.vmxon=false, but all other nVMX state allocated. Don't attempt to gracefully handle the transition as (a) most transitions are nonsencial, e.g. forcing SMM while L2 is running, (b) there isn't sufficient information to handle all transitions, e.g. SVM wants access to the SMRAM save state, and (c) KVM_SET_VCPU_EVENTS must precede KVM_SET_NESTED_STATE during state restore as the latter disallows putting the vCPU into L2 if SMM is active, and disallows tagging the vCPU as being post-VMXON in SMM if SMM is not active. Abuse of KVM_SET_VCPU_EVENTS manifests as a WARN and memory leak in nVMX due to failure to free vmcs01's shadow VMCS, but the bug goes far beyond just a memory leak, e.g. toggling SMM on while L2 is active puts the vCPU in an architecturally impossible state. kernel/resource: fix kfree() of bootmem memory again

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: kernel/resource: fix kfree() of bootmem memory again Since commit ebff7d8f270d ("mem hotunplug: fix kfree() of bootmem memory"), we could get a resource allocated during boot via alloc_resource(). And it's required to release the resource using free_resource(). Howerver, many people use kfree directly which will result in kernel BUG. In order to fix this without fixing every call site, just leak a couple of bytes in such corner case.
