vdpa: Add max vqp attr to vdpa_nl_policy for nlattr length check

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vdpa: Add max vqp attr to vdpa_nl_policy for nlattr length check The vdpa_nl_policy structure is used to validate the nlattr when parsing the incoming nlmsg. It will ensure the attribute being described produces a valid nlattr pointer in info->attrs before entering into each handler in vdpa_nl_ops. That is to say, the missing part in vdpa_nl_policy may lead to illegal nlattr after parsing, which could lead to OOB read just like CVE-2023-3773. This patch adds the missing nla_policy for vdpa max vqp attr to avoid such bugs.

ext4: add bounds checking in get_max_inline_xattr_value_size()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ext4: add bounds checking in get_max_inline_xattr_value_size() Normally the extended attributes in the inode body would have been checked when the inode is first opened, but if someone is writing to the block device while the file system is mounted, it's possible for the inode table to get corrupted. Add bounds checking to avoid reading beyond the end of allocated memory if this happens.

sctp: fix a potential overflow in sctp_ifwdtsn_skip

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sctp: fix a potential overflow in sctp_ifwdtsn_skip Currently, when traversing ifwdtsn skips with _sctp_walk_ifwdtsn, it only checks the pos against the end of the chunk. However, the data left for the last pos may be < sizeof(struct sctp_ifwdtsn_skip), and dereference it as struct sctp_ifwdtsn_skip may cause coverflow. This patch fixes it by checking the pos against "the end of the chunk - sizeof(struct sctp_ifwdtsn_skip)" in sctp_ifwdtsn_skip, similar to sctp_fwdtsn_skip.

net/sched: act_mpls: Fix warning during failed attribute validation

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/sched: act_mpls: Fix warning during failed attribute validation The 'TCA_MPLS_LABEL' attribute is of 'NLA_U32' type, but has a validation type of 'NLA_VALIDATE_FUNCTION'. This is an invalid combination according to the comment above 'struct nla_policy': " Meaning of `validate' field, use via NLA_POLICY_VALIDATE_FN: NLA_BINARY Validation function called for the attribute. All other Unused - but note that it's a union " This can trigger the warning [1] in nla_get_range_unsigned() when validation of the attribute fails. Despite being of 'NLA_U32' type, the associated 'min'/'max' fields in the policy are negative as they are aliased by the 'validate' field. Fix by changing the attribute type to 'NLA_BINARY' which is consistent with the above comment and all other users of NLA_POLICY_VALIDATE_FN(). As a result, move the length validation to the validation function. net/mlx5: Collect command failures data only for known commands

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/mlx5: Collect command failures data only for known commands DEVX can issue a general command, which is not used by mlx5 driver. In case such command is failed, mlx5 is trying to collect the failure data, However, mlx5 doesn't create a storage for this command, since mlx5 doesn't use it. This lead to array-index-out-of-bounds error. Fix it by checking whether the command is known before collecting the failure data.

scsi: mpi3mr: Fix issues in mpi3mr_get_all_tgt_info()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: mpi3mr: Fix issues in mpi3mr_get_all_tgt_info() The function mpi3mr_get_all_tgt_info() has four issues: 1) It calculates valid entry length in alltgt_info assuming the header part of the struct mpi3mr_device_map_info would equal to sizeof(u32). The correct size is sizeof(u64). 2) When it calculates the valid entry length kern_entrylen, it excludes one entry by subtracting 1 from num_devices. 3) It copies num_device by calling memcpy(). Substitution is enough. 4) It does not specify the calculated length to sg_copy_from_buffer(). Instead, it specifies the payload length which is larger than the alltgt_info size. It causes "BUG: KASAN: slab-out-of-bounds". Fix the issues by using the correct header size, removing the subtraction from num_devices, replacing the memcpy() with substitution and specifying the correct length to sg_copy_from_buffer().

smb: client: fix potential deadlock when releasing mids

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix potential deadlock when releasing mids All release_mid() callers seem to hold a reference of @mid so there is no need to call kref_put(&mid->refcount, __release_mid) under @server->mid_lock spinlock. If they don't, then an use-after-free bug would have occurred anyways. By getting rid of such spinlock also fixes a potential deadlock as shown below CPU 0 CPU 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------ cifs_demultiplex_thread() cifs_debug_data_proc_show() release_mid() spin_lock(&server->mid_lock); spin_lock(&cifs_tcp_ses_lock) spin_lock(&server->mid_lock) __release_mid() smb2_find_smb_tcon() spin_lock(&cifs_tcp_ses_lock) *deadlock*

fbdev: pxafb: Fix possible use after free in pxafb_task()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fbdev: pxafb: Fix possible use after free in pxafb_task() In the pxafb_probe function, it calls the pxafb_init_fbinfo function, after which &fbi->task is associated with pxafb_task. Moreover, within this pxafb_init_fbinfo function, the pxafb_blank function within the &pxafb_ops struct is capable of scheduling work. If we remove the module which will call pxafb_remove to make cleanup, it will call unregister_framebuffer function which can call do_unregister_framebuffer to free fbi->fb through put_fb_info(fb_info), while the work mentioned above will be used. The sequence of operations that may lead to a UAF bug is as follows: CPU0 CPU1 | pxafb_task pxafb_remove | unregister_framebuffer(info) | do_unregister_framebuffer(fb_info) | put_fb_info(fb_info) | // free fbi->fb | set_ctrlr_state(fbi, state) | __pxafb_lcd_power(fbi, 0) | fbi->lcd_power(on, &fbi->fb.var) | //use fbi->fb Fix it by ensuring that the work is canceled before proceeding with the cleanup in pxafb_remove. Note that only root user can remove the driver at runtime.

wifi: iwlwifi: mvm: Fix a memory corruption issue

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: iwlwifi: mvm: Fix a memory corruption issue A few lines above, space is kzalloc()'ed for: sizeof(struct iwl_nvm_data) + sizeof(struct ieee80211_channel) + sizeof(struct ieee80211_rate) 'mvm->nvm_data' is a 'struct iwl_nvm_data', so it is fine. At the end of this structure, there is the 'channels' flex array. Each element is of type 'struct ieee80211_channel'. So only 1 element is allocated in this array. When doing: mvm->nvm_data->bands[0].channels = mvm->nvm_data->channels; We point at the first element of the 'channels' flex array. So this is fine. However, when doing: mvm->nvm_data->bands[0].bitrates = (void *)((u8 *)mvm->nvm_data->channels + 1); because of the "(u8 *)" cast, we add only 1 to the address of the beginning of the flex array. It is likely that we want point at the 'struct ieee80211_rate' allocated just after. Remove the spurious casting so that the pointer arithmetic works as expected.

net/mlx5e: fix a potential double-free in fs_any_create_groups

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/mlx5e: fix a potential double-free in fs_any_create_groups When kcalloc() for ft->g succeeds but kvzalloc() for in fails, fs_any_create_groups() will free ft->g. net/smc: avoid data corruption caused by decline

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/smc: avoid data corruption caused by decline We found a data corruption issue during testing of SMC-R on Redis applications. The benchmark has a low probability of reporting a strange error as shown below. "Error: Protocol error, got "\xe2" as reply type byte" Finally, we found that the retrieved error data was as follows: 0xE2 0xD4 0xC3 0xD9 0x04 0x00 0x2C 0x20 0xA6 0x56 0x00 0x16 0x3E 0x0C 0xCB 0x04 0x02 0x01 0x00 0x00 0x20 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0xE2 It is quite obvious that this is a SMC DECLINE message, which means that the applications received SMC protocol message. We found that this was caused by the following situations: client server ¦ clc proposal -------------> ¦ clc accept <------------- ¦ clc confirm -------------> wait llc confirm send llc confirm ¦failed llc confirm ¦ x------ (after 2s)timeout wait llc confirm rsp wait decline (after 1s) timeout (after 2s) timeout ¦ decline --------------> ¦ decline <-------------- As a result, a decline message was sent in the implementation, and this message was read from TCP by the already-fallback connection. This patch double the client timeout as 2x of the server value, With this simple change, the Decline messages should never cross or collide (during Confirm link timeout). This issue requires an immediate solution, since the protocol updates involve a more long-term solution.

mctp: perform route lookups under a RCU read-side lock

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mctp: perform route lookups under a RCU read-side lock Our current route lookups (mctp_route_lookup and mctp_route_lookup_null) traverse the net's route list without the RCU read lock held. This means the route lookup is subject to preemption, resulting in an potential grace period expiry, and so an eventual kfree() while we still have the route pointer. Add the proper read-side critical section locks around the route lookups, preventing premption and a possible parallel kfree. The remaining net->mctp.routes accesses are already under a rcu_read_lock, or protected by the RTNL for updates. Based on an analysis from Sili Luo <rootlab@huawei.com>, where introducing a delay in the route lookup could cause a UAF on simultaneous sendmsg() and route deletion.

mm: call the security_mmap_file() LSM hook in remap_file_pages()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm: call the security_mmap_file() LSM hook in remap_file_pages() The remap_file_pages syscall handler calls do_mmap() directly, which doesn't contain the LSM security check. And if the process has called personality(READ_IMPLIES_EXEC) before and remap_file_pages() is called for RW pages, this will actually result in remapping the pages to RWX, bypassing a W^X policy enforced by SELinux. So we should check prot by security_mmap_file LSM hook in the remap_file_pages syscall handler before do_mmap() is called. Otherwise, it potentially permits an attacker to bypass a W^X policy enforced by SELinux. The bypass is similar to CVE-2016-10044, which bypass the same thing via AIO and can be found in [1]. The PoC: $ cat > test.c int main(void) { size_t pagesz = sysconf(_SC_PAGE_SIZE); int mfd = syscall(SYS_memfd_create, "test", 0); const char *buf = mmap(NULL, 4 * pagesz, PROT_READ | PROT_WRITE, MAP_SHARED, mfd, 0); unsigned int old = syscall(SYS_personality, 0xffffffff); syscall(SYS_personality, READ_IMPLIES_EXEC | old); syscall(SYS_remap_file_pages, buf, pagesz, 0, 2, 0); syscall(SYS_personality, old); // show the RWX page exists even if W^X policy is enforced int fd = open("/proc/self/maps", O_RDONLY); unsigned char buf2[1024]; while (1) { int ret = read(fd, buf2, 1024); if (ret <= 0) break; write(1, buf2, ret); } close(fd); } $ gcc test.c -o test $ ./test | grep rwx 7f1836c34000-7f1836c35000 rwxs 00002000 00:01 2050 /memfd:test (deleted) [PM: subject line tweaks]

This wasn't a problem at the begining because __patch_mem() is not instrumented. Commit 465cabc97b42 ("powerpc/code-patching: introduce patch_instructions()") use copy_to_kernel_nofault() to copy several instructions at once. But when using temporary mm the destination is not regular kernel memory but a kind of kernel-like memory located in user address space. ---truncated---

fuse: revert back to __readahead_folio() for readahead

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fuse: revert back to __readahead_folio() for readahead In commit 3eab9d7bc2f4 ("fuse: convert readahead to use folios"), the logic was converted to using the new folio readahead code, which drops the reference on the folio once it is locked, using an inferred reference on the folio. Previously we held a reference on the folio for the entire duration of the readpages call. This is fine, however for the case for splice pipe responses where we will remove the old folio and splice in the new folio (see fuse_try_move_page()), we assume that there is a reference held on the folio for ap->folios, which is no longer the case. To fix this, revert back to __readahead_folio() which allows us to hold the reference on the folio for the duration of readpages until either we drop the reference ourselves in fuse_readpages_end() or the reference is dropped after it's replaced in the page cache in the splice case. This will fix the UAF bug that was reported.

binder: fix use-after-free in shinker's callback

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: binder: fix use-after-free in shinker's callback The mmap read lock is used during the shrinker's callback, which means that using alloc->vma pointer isn't safe as it can race with munmap(). As of commit dd2283f2605e ("mm: mmap: zap pages with read mmap_sem in munmap") the mmap lock is downgraded after the vma has been isolated. I was able to reproduce this issue by manually adding some delays and triggering page reclaiming through the shrinker's debug sysfs. The following KASAN report confirms the UAF: ================================================================== BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in zap_page_range_single+0x470/0x4b8 Read of size 8 at addr ffff356ed50e50f0 by task bash/478 CPU: 1 PID: 478 Comm: bash Not tainted 6.6.0-rc5-00055-g1c8b86a3799f-dirty #70 Hardware name: linux,dummy-virt (DT) Call trace: zap_page_range_single+0x470/0x4b8 binder_alloc_free_page+0x608/0xadc __list_lru_walk_one+0x130/0x3b0 list_lru_walk_node+0xc4/0x22c binder_shrink_scan+0x108/0x1dc shrinker_debugfs_scan_write+0x2b4/0x500 full_proxy_write+0xd4/0x140 vfs_write+0x1ac/0x758 ksys_write+0xf0/0x1dc __arm64_sys_write+0x6c/0x9c Allocated by task 492: kmem_cache_alloc+0x130/0x368 vm_area_alloc+0x2c/0x190 mmap_region+0x258/0x18bc do_mmap+0x694/0xa60 vm_mmap_pgoff+0x170/0x29c ksys_mmap_pgoff+0x290/0x3a0 __arm64_sys_mmap+0xcc/0x144 Freed by task 491: kmem_cache_free+0x17c/0x3c8 vm_area_free_rcu_cb+0x74/0x98 rcu_core+0xa38/0x26d4 rcu_core_si+0x10/0x1c __do_softirq+0x2fc/0xd24 Last potentially related work creation: __call_rcu_common.constprop.0+0x6c/0xba0 call_rcu+0x10/0x1c vm_area_free+0x18/0x24 remove_vma+0xe4/0x118 do_vmi_align_munmap.isra.0+0x718/0xb5c do_vmi_munmap+0xdc/0x1fc __vm_munmap+0x10c/0x278 __arm64_sys_munmap+0x58/0x7c Fix this issue by performing instead a vma_lookup() which will fail to find the vma that was isolated before the mmap lock downgrade. vhost_vdpa: assign irq bypass producer token correctly

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vhost_vdpa: assign irq bypass producer token correctly We used to call irq_bypass_unregister_producer() in vhost_vdpa_setup_vq_irq() which is problematic as we don't know if the token pointer is still valid or not. Actually, we use the eventfd_ctx as the token so the life cycle of the token should be bound to the VHOST_SET_VRING_CALL instead of vhost_vdpa_setup_vq_irq() which could be called by set_status(). Fixing this by setting up irq bypass producer's token when handling VHOST_SET_VRING_CALL and un-registering the producer before calling vhost_vring_ioctl() to prevent a possible use after free as eventfd could have been released in vhost_vring_ioctl(). And such registering and unregistering will only be done if DRIVER_OK is set.

x86/tdx: Fix "in-kernel MMIO" check

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: x86/tdx: Fix "in-kernel MMIO" check TDX only supports kernel-initiated MMIO operations. The handle_mmio() function checks if the #VE exception occurred in the kernel and rejects the operation if it did not. However, userspace can deceive the kernel into performing MMIO on its behalf. For example, if userspace can point a syscall to an MMIO address, syscall does get_user() or put_user() on it, triggering MMIO #VE. The kernel will treat the #VE as in-kernel MMIO. Ensure that the target MMIO address is within the kernel before decoding instruction.
