Kernel: netlink socket crash (null pointer deref) in netlink_dump function

A NULL pointer dereference vulnerability was found in netlink_dump. This issue can occur when the Netlink socket receives the message(sendmsg) for the XFRM_MSG_GETSA, XFRM_MSG_GETPOLICY type message, and the DUMP flag is set and can cause a denial of service or possibly another unspecified impact. Due to the nature of the flaw, privilege escalation cannot be fully ruled out, although it is unlikely.

drm/mediatek: Clean dangling pointer on bind error path

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/mediatek: Clean dangling pointer on bind error path mtk_drm_bind() can fail, in which case drm_dev_put() is called, destroying the drm_device object. However a pointer to it was still being held in the private object, and that pointer would be passed along to DRM in mtk_drm_sys_prepare() if a suspend were triggered at that point, resulting in a panic. Clean the pointer when destroying the object in the error path to prevent this from happening.

ACPICA: Add AML_NO_OPERAND_RESOLVE flag to Timer

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ACPICA: Add AML_NO_OPERAND_RESOLVE flag to Timer ACPICA commit 90310989a0790032f5a0140741ff09b545af4bc5 According to the ACPI specification 19.6.134, no argument is required to be passed for ASL Timer instruction. For taking care of no argument, AML_NO_OPERAND_RESOLVE flag is added to ASL Timer instruction opcode. When ASL timer instruction interpreted by ACPI interpreter, getting error. After adding AML_NO_OPERAND_RESOLVE flag to ASL Timer instruction opcode, issue is not observed. ============================================================= UBSAN: array-index-out-of-bounds in acpica/dswexec.c:401:12 index -1 is out of range for type 'union acpi_operand_object *[9]' CPU: 37 PID: 1678 Comm: cat Not tainted 6.0.0-dev-th500-6.0.y-1+bcf8c46459e407-generic-64k HW name: NVIDIA BIOS v1.1.1-d7acbfc-dirty 12/19/2022 Call trace: dump_backtrace+0xe0/0x130 show_stack+0x20/0x60 dump_stack_lvl+0x68/0x84 dump_stack+0x18/0x34 ubsan_epilogue+0x10/0x50 __ubsan_handle_out_of_bounds+0x80/0x90 acpi_ds_exec_end_op+0x1bc/0x6d8 acpi_ps_parse_loop+0x57c/0x618 acpi_ps_parse_aml+0x1e0/0x4b4 acpi_ps_execute_method+0x24c/0x2b8 acpi_ns_evaluate+0x3a8/0x4bc acpi_evaluate_object+0x15c/0x37c acpi_evaluate_integer+0x54/0x15c show_power+0x8c/0x12c [acpi_power_meter]

mlx5: fix possible ptp queue fifo use-after-free

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mlx5: fix possible ptp queue fifo use-after-free Fifo indexes are not checked during pop operations and it leads to potential use-after-free when poping from empty queue. Such case was possible during re-sync action. WARN_ON_ONCE covers future cases. There were out-of-order cqe spotted which lead to drain of the queue and use-after-free because of lack of fifo pointers check. Special check and counter are added to avoid resync operation if SKB could not exist in the fifo because of OOO cqe (skb_id must be between consumer and producer index).

xsk: Fix xsk_diag use-after-free error during socket cleanup

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: xsk: Fix xsk_diag use-after-free error during socket cleanup Fix a use-after-free error that is possible if the xsk_diag interface is used after the socket has been unbound from the device. This can happen either due to the socket being closed or the device disappearing. In the early days of AF_XDP, the way we tested that a socket was not bound to a device was to simply check if the netdevice pointer in the xsk socket structure was NULL. Later, a better system was introduced by having an explicit state variable in the xsk socket struct. For example, the state of a socket that is on the way to being closed and has been unbound from the device is XSK_UNBOUND. The commit in the Fixes tag below deleted the old way of signalling that a socket is unbound, setting dev to NULL. This in the belief that all code using the old way had been exterminated. That was unfortunately not true as the xsk diagnostics code was still using the old way and thus does not work as intended when a socket is going down. Fix this by introducing a test against the state variable. If the socket is in the state XSK_UNBOUND, simply abort the diagnostic's netlink operation.

HID: mcp-2221: prevent UAF in delayed work

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: HID: mcp-2221: prevent UAF in delayed work If the device is plugged/unplugged without giving time for mcp_init_work() to complete, we might kick in the devm free code path and thus have unavailable struct mcp_2221 while in delayed work. Canceling the delayed_work item is enough to solve the issue, because cancel_delayed_work_sync will prevent the work item to requeue itself.

lib: cpu_rmap: Avoid use after free on rmap->obj array entries

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: lib: cpu_rmap: Avoid use after free on rmap->obj array entries When calling irq_set_affinity_notifier() with NULL at the notify argument, it will cause freeing of the glue pointer in the corresponding array entry but will leave the pointer in the array. A subsequent call to free_irq_cpu_rmap() will try to free this entry again leading to possible use after free. Fix that by setting NULL to the array entry and checking that we have non-zero at the array entry when iterating over the array in free_irq_cpu_rmap(). The current code does not suffer from this since there are no cases where irq_set_affinity_notifier(irq, NULL) (note the NULL passed for the notify arg) is called, followed by a call to free_irq_cpu_rmap() so we don't hit and issue. Subsequent patches in this series excersize this flow, hence the required fix.

accel/qaic: tighten bounds checking in decode_message()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: accel/qaic: tighten bounds checking in decode_message() Copy the bounds checking from encode_message() to decode_message(). This patch addresses the following concerns. Ensure that there is enough space for at least one header so that we don't have a negative size later. if (msg_hdr_len < sizeof(*trans_hdr)) Ensure that we have enough space to read the next header from the msg->data. if (msg_len > msg_hdr_len - sizeof(*trans_hdr)) return -EINVAL; Check that the trans_hdr->len is not below the minimum size: if (hdr_len < sizeof(*trans_hdr)) This minimum check ensures that we don't corrupt memory in decode_passthrough() when we do. memcpy(out_trans->data, in_trans->data, len - sizeof(in_trans->hdr)); And finally, use size_add() to prevent an integer overflow: if (size_add(msg_len, hdr_len) > msg_hdr_len)

crypto: xts - Handle EBUSY correctly

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: xts - Handle EBUSY correctly As it is xts only handles the special return value of EINPROGRESS, which means that in all other cases it will free data related to the request. However, as the caller of xts may specify MAY_BACKLOG, we also need to expect EBUSY and treat it in the same way. Otherwise backlogged requests will trigger a use-after-free.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: udf: Do not bother merging very long extents When merging very long extents we try to push as much length as possible to the first extent. However this is unnecessarily complicated and not really worth the trouble. Furthermore there was a bug in the logic resulting in corrupting extents in the file as syzbot reproducer shows. So just don't bother with the merging of extents that are too long together.

virtio-mmio: don't break lifecycle of vm_dev

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: virtio-mmio: don't break lifecycle of vm_dev vm_dev has a separate lifecycle because it has a 'struct device' embedded. Thus, having a release callback for it is correct. Allocating the vm_dev struct with devres totally breaks this protection, though. Instead of waiting for the vm_dev release callback, the memory is freed when the platform_device is removed. Resulting in a use-after-free when finally the callback is to be called. To easily see the problem, compile the kernel with CONFIG_DEBUG_KOBJECT_RELEASE and unbind with sysfs. The fix is easy, don't use devres in this case. Found during my research about object lifetime problems.

macvlan: add forgotten nla_policy for IFLA_MACVLAN_BC_CUTOFF

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: macvlan: add forgotten nla_policy for IFLA_MACVLAN_BC_CUTOFF The previous commit 954d1fa1ac93 ("macvlan: Add netlink attribute for broadcast cutoff") added one additional attribute named IFLA_MACVLAN_BC_CUTOFF to allow broadcast cutfoff. However, it forgot to describe the nla_policy at macvlan_policy (drivers/net/macvlan.c). Hence, this suppose NLA_S32 (4 bytes) integer can be faked as empty (0 bytes) by a malicious user, which could leads to OOB in heap just like CVE-2023-3773. To fix it, this commit just completes the nla_policy description for IFLA_MACVLAN_BC_CUTOFF. This enforces the length check and avoids the potential OOB read.

wifi: iwlwifi: pcie: Fix integer overflow in iwl_write_to_user_buf

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: iwlwifi: pcie: Fix integer overflow in iwl_write_to_user_buf An integer overflow occurs in the iwl_write_to_user_buf() function, which is called by the iwl_dbgfs_monitor_data_read() function. static bool iwl_write_to_user_buf(char __user *user_buf, ssize_t count, void *buf, ssize_t *size, ssize_t *bytes_copied) { int buf_size_left = count - *bytes_copied; buf_size_left = buf_size_left - (buf_size_left % sizeof(u32)); if (*size > buf_size_left) *size = buf_size_left; If the user passes a SIZE_MAX value to the "ssize_t count" parameter, the ssize_t count parameter is assigned to "int buf_size_left". Then compare "*size" with "buf_size_left" . Here, "buf_size_left" is a negative number, so "*size" is assigned "buf_size_left" and goes into the third argument of the copy_to_user function, causing a heap overflow. This is not a security vulnerability because iwl_dbgfs_monitor_data_read() is a debugfs operation with 0400 privileges.

blk-crypto: make blk_crypto_evict_key() more robust

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: blk-crypto: make blk_crypto_evict_key() more robust If blk_crypto_evict_key() sees that the key is still in-use (due to a bug) or that ->keyslot_evict failed, it currently just returns while leaving the key linked into the keyslot management structures. However, blk_crypto_evict_key() is only called in contexts such as inode eviction where failure is not an option. So actually the caller proceeds with freeing the blk_crypto_key regardless of the return value of blk_crypto_evict_key(). These two assumptions don't match, and the result is that there can be a use-after-free in blk_crypto_reprogram_all_keys() after one of these errors occurs. (Note, these errors *shouldn't* happen; we're just talking about what happens if they do anyway.) Fix this by making blk_crypto_evict_key() unlink the key from the keyslot management structures even on failure. Also improve some comments.

ring-buffer: Sync IRQ works before buffer destruction

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ring-buffer: Sync IRQ works before buffer destruction If something was written to the buffer just before destruction, it may be possible (maybe not in a real system, but it did happen in ARCH=um with time-travel) to destroy the ringbuffer before the IRQ work ran, leading this KASAN report (or a crash without KASAN): BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in irq_work_run_list+0x11a/0x13a Read of size 8 at addr 000000006d640a48 by task swapper/0 CPU: 0 PID: 0 Comm: swapper Tainted: G W O 6.3.0-rc1 #7 Stack: 60c4f20f 0c203d48 41b58ab3 60f224fc 600477fa 60f35687 60c4f20f 601273dd 00000008 6101eb00 6101eab0 615be548 Call Trace: [<60047a58>] show_stack+0x25e/0x282 [<60c609e0>] dump_stack_lvl+0x96/0xfd [<60c50d4c>] print_report+0x1a7/0x5a8 [<603078d3>] kasan_report+0xc1/0xe9 [<60308950>] __asan_report_load8_noabort+0x1b/0x1d [<60232844>] irq_work_run_list+0x11a/0x13a [<602328b4>] irq_work_tick+0x24/0x34 [<6017f9dc>] update_process_times+0x162/0x196 [<6019f335>] tick_sched_handle+0x1a4/0x1c3 [<6019fd9e>] tick_sched_timer+0x79/0x10c [<601812b9>] __hrtimer_run_queues.constprop.0+0x425/0x695 [<60182913>] hrtimer_interrupt+0x16c/0x2c4 [<600486a3>] um_timer+0x164/0x183 [...] Allocated by task 411: save_stack_trace+0x99/0xb5 stack_trace_save+0x81/0x9b kasan_save_stack+0x2d/0x54 kasan_set_track+0x34/0x3e kasan_save_alloc_info+0x25/0x28 ____kasan_kmalloc+0x8b/0x97 __kasan_kmalloc+0x10/0x12 __kmalloc+0xb2/0xe8 load_elf_phdrs+0xee/0x182 [...] The buggy address belongs to the object at 000000006d640800 which belongs to the cache kmalloc-1k of size 1024 The buggy address is located 584 bytes inside of freed 1024-byte region [000000006d640800, 000000006d640c00) Add the appropriate irq_work_sync() so the work finishes before the buffers are destroyed. drivers: base: Free devm resources when unregistering a device

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drivers: base: Free devm resources when unregistering a device In the current code, devres_release_all() only gets called if the device has a bus and has been probed. This leads to issues when using bus-less or driver-less devices where the device might never get freed if a managed resource holds a reference to the device. This is happening in the DRM framework for example. We should thus call devres_release_all() in the device_del() function to make sure that the device-managed actions are properly executed when the device is unregistered, even if it has neither a bus nor a driver. This is effectively the same change than commit 2f8d16a996da ("devres: release resources on device_del()") that got reverted by commit a525a3ddeaca ("driver core: free devres in device_release") over memory leaks concerns. This patch effectively combines the two commits mentioned above to release the resources both on device_del() and device_release() and get the best of both worlds.

wifi: iwlwifi: mvm: Fix a memory corruption issue

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: iwlwifi: mvm: Fix a memory corruption issue A few lines above, space is kzalloc()'ed for: sizeof(struct iwl_nvm_data) + sizeof(struct ieee80211_channel) + sizeof(struct ieee80211_rate) 'mvm->nvm_data' is a 'struct iwl_nvm_data', so it is fine. At the end of this structure, there is the 'channels' flex array. Each element is of type 'struct ieee80211_channel'. So only 1 element is allocated in this array. When doing: mvm->nvm_data->bands[0].channels = mvm->nvm_data->channels; We point at the first element of the 'channels' flex array. So this is fine. However, when doing: mvm->nvm_data->bands[0].bitrates = (void *)((u8 *)mvm->nvm_data->channels + 1); because of the "(u8 *)" cast, we add only 1 to the address of the beginning of the flex array. It is likely that we want point at the 'struct ieee80211_rate' allocated just after. Remove the spurious casting so that the pointer arithmetic works as expected.

mctp: perform route lookups under a RCU read-side lock

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mctp: perform route lookups under a RCU read-side lock Our current route lookups (mctp_route_lookup and mctp_route_lookup_null) traverse the net's route list without the RCU read lock held. This means the route lookup is subject to preemption, resulting in an potential grace period expiry, and so an eventual kfree() while we still have the route pointer. Add the proper read-side critical section locks around the route lookups, preventing premption and a possible parallel kfree. The remaining net->mctp.routes accesses are already under a rcu_read_lock, or protected by the RTNL for updates. Based on an analysis from Sili Luo <rootlab@huawei.com>, where introducing a delay in the route lookup could cause a UAF on simultaneous sendmsg() and route deletion.

Input: powermate - fix use-after-free in powermate_config_complete

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Input: powermate - fix use-after-free in powermate_config_complete syzbot has found a use-after-free bug [1] in the powermate driver. This happens when the device is disconnected, which leads to a memory free from the powermate_device struct. When an asynchronous control message completes after the kfree and its callback is invoked, the lock does not exist anymore and hence the bug. Use usb_kill_urb() on pm->config to cancel any in-progress requests upon device disconnection. [1] https://syzkaller.appspot.com/bug?extid=0434ac83f907a1dbdd1e

iommu: Don't reserve 0-length IOVA region

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iommu: Don't reserve 0-length IOVA region When the bootloader/firmware doesn't setup the framebuffers, their address and size are 0 in "iommu-addresses" property. If IOVA region is reserved with 0 length, then it ends up corrupting the IOVA rbtree with an entry which has pfn_hi < pfn_lo. If we intend to use display driver in kernel without framebuffer then it's causing the display IOMMU mappings to fail as entire valid IOVA space is reserved when address and length are passed as 0. An ideal solution would be firmware removing the "iommu-addresses" property and corresponding "memory-region" if display is not present. But the kernel should be able to handle this by checking for size of IOVA region and skipping the IOVA reservation if size is 0. Also, add a warning if firmware is requesting 0-length IOVA region reservation.

serial: 8250: omap: Don't skip resource freeing if pm_runtime_resume_and_get() failed

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: serial: 8250: omap: Don't skip resource freeing if pm_runtime_resume_and_get() failed Returning an error code from .remove() makes the driver core emit the little helpful error message: remove callback returned a non-zero value. This will be ignored. and then remove the device anyhow. So all resources that were not freed are leaked in this case. Skipping serial8250_unregister_port() has the potential to keep enough of the UART around to trigger a use-after-free. So replace the error return (and with it the little helpful error message) by a more useful error message and continue to cleanup.

bpf: Fix accesses to uninit stack slots

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Fix accesses to uninit stack slots Privileged programs are supposed to be able to read uninitialized stack memory (ever since 6715df8d5) but, before this patch, these accesses were permitted inconsistently. In particular, accesses were permitted above state->allocated_stack, but not below it. In other words, if the stack was already "large enough", the access was permitted, but otherwise the access was rejected instead of being allowed to "grow the stack". This undesired rejection was happening in two places: - in check_stack_slot_within_bounds() - in check_stack_range_initialized() This patch arranges for these accesses to be permitted. A bunch of tests that were relying on the old rejection had to change; all of them were changed to add also run unprivileged, in which case the old behavior persists. One tests couldn't be updated - global_func16 - because it can't run unprivileged for other reasons. This patch also fixes the tracking of the stack size for variable-offset reads. This second fix is bundled in the same commit as the first one because they're inter-related. Before this patch, writes to the stack using registers containing a variable offset (as opposed to registers with fixed, known values) were not properly contributing to the function's needed stack size. As a result, it was possible for a program to verify, but then to attempt to read out-of-bounds data at runtime because a too small stack had been allocated for it. Each function tracks the size of the stack it needs in bpf_subprog_info.stack_depth, which is maintained by update_stack_depth(). For regular memory accesses, check_mem_access() was calling update_state_depth() but it was passing in only the fixed part of the offset register, ignoring the variable offset. This was incorrect; the minimum possible value of that register should be used instead. This tracking is now fixed by centralizing the tracking of stack size in grow_stack_state(), and by lifting the calls to grow_stack_state() to check_stack_access_within_bounds() as suggested by Andrii. The code is now simpler and more convincingly tracks the correct maximum stack size. check_stack_range_initialized() can now rely on enough stack having been allocated for the access; this helps with the fix for the first issue. A few tests were changed to also check the stack depth computation. The one that fails without this patch is verifier_var_off:stack_write_priv_vs_unpriv.

Use-after-free in Linux kernel's netfilter: nf_tables component

A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's netfilter: nf_tables component can be exploited to achieve local privilege escalation. Addition and removal of rules from chain bindings within the same transaction causes leads to use-after-free. We recommend upgrading past commit f15f29fd4779be8a418b66e9d52979bb6d6c2325.

wifi: brcmfmac: Fix potential stack-out-of-bounds in brcmf_c_preinit_dcmds()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: brcmfmac: Fix potential stack-out-of-bounds in brcmf_c_preinit_dcmds() This patch fixes a stack-out-of-bounds read in brcmfmac that occurs when 'buf' that is not null-terminated is passed as an argument of strsep() in brcmf_c_preinit_dcmds(). This buffer is filled with a firmware version string by memcpy() in brcmf_fil_iovar_data_get(). The patch ensures buf is null-terminated. Found by a modified version of syzkaller. NFC: NULL out the dev->rfkill to prevent UAF

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: NFC: NULL out the dev->rfkill to prevent UAF Commit 3e3b5dfcd16a ("NFC: reorder the logic in nfc_{un,}register_device") assumes the device_is_registered() in function nfc_dev_up() will help to check when the rfkill is unregistered. However, this check only take effect when device_del(&dev->dev) is done in nfc_unregister_device(). Hence, the rfkill object is still possible be dereferenced. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: mpt3sas: Fix use after free in _scsih_expander_node_remove() The function mpt3sas_transport_port_remove() called in _scsih_expander_node_remove() frees the port field of the sas_expander structure, leading to the following use-after-free splat from KASAN when the ioc_info() call following that function is executed (e.g. when doing rmmod of the driver module): [ 3479.371167] ================================================================== [ 3479.378496] BUG: KASAN: use-after-free in _scsih_expander_node_remove+0x710/0x750 [mpt3sas] [ 3479.386936] Read of size 1 at addr ffff8881c037691c by task rmmod/1531 [ 3479.393524] [ 3479.395035] CPU: 18 PID: 1531 Comm: rmmod Not tainted 5.17.0-rc8+ #1436 [ 3479.401712] Hardware name: Supermicro Super Server/H12SSL-NT, BIOS 2.1 06/02/2021 [ 3479.409263] Call Trace: [ 3479.411743] <TASK> [ 3479.413875] dump_stack_lvl+0x45/0x59 [ 3479.417582] print_address_description.constprop.0+0x1f/0x120 [ 3479.423389] ? _scsih_expander_node_remove+0x710/0x750 [mpt3sas] [ 3479.429469] kasan_report.cold+0x83/0xdf [ 3479.433438] ? _scsih_expander_node_remove+0x710/0x750 [mpt3sas] [ 3479.439514] _scsih_expander_node_remove+0x710/0x750 [mpt3sas] [ 3479.445411] ? _raw_spin_unlock_irqrestore+0x2d/0x40 [ 3479.452032] scsih_remove+0x525/0xc90 [mpt3sas] [ 3479.458212] ? mpt3sas_expander_remove+0x1d0/0x1d0 [mpt3sas] [ 3479.465529] ? down_write+0xde/0x150 [ 3479.470746] ? up_write+0x14d/0x460 [ 3479.475840] ? kernfs_find_ns+0x137/0x310 [ 3479.481438] pci_device_remove+0x65/0x110 [ 3479.487013] __device_release_driver+0x316/0x680 [ 3479.493180] driver_detach+0x1ec/0x2d0 [ 3479.498499] bus_remove_driver+0xe7/0x2d0 [ 3479.504081] pci_unregister_driver+0x26/0x250 [ 3479.510033] _mpt3sas_exit+0x2b/0x6cf [mpt3sas] [ 3479.516144] __x64_sys_delete_module+0x2fd/0x510 [ 3479.522315] ? free_module+0xaa0/0xaa0 [ 3479.527593] ? __cond_resched+0x1c/0x90 [ 3479.532951] ? lockdep_hardirqs_on_prepare+0x273/0x3e0 [ 3479.539607] ? syscall_enter_from_user_mode+0x21/0x70 [ 3479.546161] ? trace_hardirqs_on+0x1c/0x110 [ 3479.551828] do_syscall_64+0x35/0x80 [ 3479.556884] entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x44/0xae [ 3479.563402] RIP: 0033:0x7f1fc482483b ... [ 3479.943087] ================================================================== Fix this by introducing the local variable port_id to store the port ID value before executing mpt3sas_transport_port_remove(). This local variable is then used in the call to ioc_info() instead of dereferencing the freed port structure.

Use-after-free in Linux kernel's net/sched: sch_hfsc (HFSC qdisc traffic control) component

A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's net/sched: sch_hfsc (HFSC qdisc traffic control) component can be exploited to achieve local privilege escalation. If a class with a link-sharing curve (i.e. with the HFSC_FSC flag set) has a parent without a link-sharing curve, then init_vf() will call vttree_insert() on the parent, but vttree_remove() will be skipped in update_vf(). This leaves a dangling pointer that can cause a use-after-free. We recommend upgrading past commit b3d26c5702c7d6c45456326e56d2ccf3f103e60f.
