An insecure file system permissions vulnerability in MSP360 Backup 4.3.1.115 allows a low privileged user to execute commands with root privileges in the 'Online Backup' folder. Upgrade to MSP360 Backup 4.4 (released on 2025-04-22).
IBM QRadar 7.3.0 to 7.3.3 Patch 2 could allow a local user to gain escalated privileges due to weak file permissions. IBM X-ForceID: 175846.
An elevation of privilege vulnerability exists in Windows Setup in the way it handles permissions. A locally authenticated attacker could run arbitrary code with elevated system privileges. After successfully exploiting the vulnerability, an attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights. The security update addresses the vulnerability by ensuring Windows Setup properly handles permissions.
IDrive before 6.7.3.19 on Windows installs by default to %PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\IDriveWindows with weak folder permissions granting any user modify permission (i.e., NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users:(OI)(CI)(M)) to the contents of the directory and its sub-folders. In addition, the program installs a service called IDriveService that runs as LocalSystem. Thus, any standard user can escalate privileges to NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM by substituting the service's binary with a malicious one.
Insecure permissions in Nakivo Backup & Replication Director version 9.4.0.r43656 on Linux allow local users to access the Nakivo Director web interface and gain root privileges. This occurs because the database containing the users of the web application and the password-recovery secret value is readable.
An issue was discovered in Canonical Multipass for macOS before version 1.16.3 due to an incomplete fix for CVE-2025-5199. While the patch in version 1.16.0 updated the ownership of the multipassd daemon binary to root:wheel, five co-located binaries (multipass, qemu-img, qemu-system-aarch64, qemu-system-x86_64, and sshfs_server) in /Library/Application Support/com.canonical.multipass/bin/ retain ownership by the installing user and remain writable. Because the root LaunchDaemon (com.canonical.multipassd.plist) configures a PATH environment variable that prioritizes this user-writable directory and invokes these auxiliary binaries by their bare names, a local attacker can replace an auxiliary binary (such as qemu-img) with a malicious wrapper. When the root daemon subsequently triggers the binary during routine execution (e.g., via multipass launch), the malicious code executes with root privileges, leading to local privilege escalation.
An Incorrect File Handling Permission bug exists on the N-central Windows Agent and Probe that, in the right circumstances, can allow a local low-level user to run commands with elevated permissions.
An exploitable local privilege elevation vulnerability exists in the file system permissions of Sytech XL Reporter v14.0.1 install directory. Depending on the vector chosen, an attacker can overwrite service executables and execute arbitrary code with privileges of user set to run the service or replace other files within the installation folder, which would allow for local privilege escalation.
A local privilege elevation vulnerability exists in the file system permissions of LogicalDoc 8.5.1 installation. Depending on the vector chosen, an attacker can either replace the service binary or replace DLL files loaded by the service, both which get executed by a service thus executing arbitrary commands with System privileges.
An exploitable local privilege elevation vulnerability exists in the file system permissions of the Win-911 Enterprise V4.20.13 install directory via WIN-911 Account Change Utility. Depending on the vector chosen, an attacker can overwrite various executables which could lead to escalation of the privileges when executed.
An exploitable local privilege elevation vulnerability exists in the file system permissions of Moxa MXView series 3.1.8 installation. Depending on the vector chosen, an attacker can either add code to a script or replace a binary.By default MXViewService, which starts as a NT SYSTEM authority user executes a series of Node.Js scripts to start additional application functionality and among them the mosquitto executable is also run.
An exploitable local privilege elevation vulnerability exists in the file system permissions of Moxa MXView series 3.1.8 installation. An exploitable local privilege elevation vulnerability exists in the file system permissions of Advantech WebAccess/SCADA 9.0.1 installation. In webvrpcs Run Key Privilege Escalation in installation folder of WebAccess, an attacker can either replace binary or loaded modules to execute code with NT SYSTEM privilege.
Citrix Workspace App before 1912 on Windows has Insecure Permissions and an Unquoted Path vulnerability which allows local users to gain privileges during the uninstallation of the application.
Several services are accessing named pipes in Ivanti Endpoint Manager through 2020.1.1 with default or overly permissive security attributes; as these services run as user ‘NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM’, the issue can be used to escalate privileges from a local standard or service account having SeImpersonatePrivilege (eg. user ‘NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE’).
Citrix Workspace App before 1912 on Windows has Insecure Permissions which allows local users to gain privileges during the uninstallation of the application.
A privilege escalation vulnerability exists in Kepware LinkMaster 3.0.94.0. In its default configuration, an attacker can globally overwrite service configuration to execute arbitrary code with NT SYSTEM privileges.
A vulnerability chain in Cribl Edge for Windows before 4.17.1 allows a local authenticated user to escalate privileges to NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. Incorrect default permissions on the Windows installer's authentication directory (CWE-276) expose a cryptographic secret used for JWT signing and password-hash derivation, enabling forgery of administrative API tokens. The forged token can then be used to invoke a pipeline function that reaches an OS command sink (CWE-78) running in the SYSTEM context.

Incorrect default permissions in the installer for Intel(R) Data Migration Software versions 3.3 and earlier may allow an authenticated user to potentially enable escalation of privilege via local access.
A vulnerability has been identified in SIMATIC RTLS Locating Manager (All versions < V2.10.2). The directory of service executables of the affected application could allow a local attacker to include arbitrary commands that are executed with SYSTEM privileges when the system restarts.
The affected product creates a directory with insecure default permissions during administrative installation. This allows a low-privileged local attacker to modify a temporary file defining the components to be installed, enabling local privilege escalation by forcing the deployment of arbitrary components.
AudioCodes Fax Server and Auto-Attendant IVR appliances versions up to and including 2.6.23 configure the web document root at C:\\F2MAdmin\\F2E with overly permissive file system permissions. Authenticated local users have modify rights on this directory, while the associated web server process runs as NT AUTHORITY\\SYSTEM. As a result, any local user can create or alter server-side scripts within the webroot and then trigger them via HTTP requests, causing arbitrary code to execute with SYSTEM privileges.
In Tenable Agent versions prior to 10.8.5 on a Windows host, it was found that a non-administrative user could execute code with SYSTEM privilege.
In openAssetFileListener of ContactsProvider2.java, there is a possible permission bypass due to an insecure default value. This could lead to local escalation of privilege to change contact data with no additional execution privileges needed. User interaction is not needed for exploitation.Product: AndroidVersions: Android-11Android ID: A-150857116
In createEmergencyLocationUserNotification of GnssVisibilityControl.java, there is a possible permissions bypass due to an empty mutable PendingIntent. This could lead to local escalation of privilege with User execution privileges needed. User interaction is not needed for exploitation.Product: AndroidVersions: Android-11 Android-10Android ID: A-156123285
The affected product extracts installation files to a temporary directory with incorrect default permissions during administrative installation. A low-privileged local attacker can exploit a TOCTOU race condition with a practical time window to replace verified files with malicious ones before installation, resulting in local privilege escalation.
AudioCodes Fax Server and Auto-Attendant IVR appliances versions up to and including 2.6.23 include a web administration component that controls back-end Windows services using helper batch scripts located under C:\\F2MAdmin\\F2E\\AudioCodes_files\\utils\\Services. When certain service actions are requested through ajaxPost.php, these scripts are invoked by PHP using system() under the NT AUTHORITY\\SYSTEM account. The batch files in this directory are writable by any authenticated local user due to overly permissive ACLs, allowing them to replace script contents with arbitrary commands. On the next service start/stop operation, the modified script is executed as SYSTEM, enabling elevation of local privileges.
Local privilege escalation in G DATA Security Client due to incorrect assignment of privileges to directories. This vulnerability allows a local, unprivileged attacker to escalate privileges on affected installations by placing an arbitrary executable in a globally writable directory resulting in execution by the SetupSVC.exe service in the context of SYSTEM.
A privilege escalation vulnerability exists in the Rockwell Automation ThinManager. When the software starts up, files are deleted in the temporary folder causing the Access Control Entry of the directory to inherit permissions from the parent directory. If exploited, a threat actor could inherit elevated privileges.
A vulnerability has been identified in SIMARIS configuration (All versions < V4.0.1). During installation to default target folder, incorrect permissions are configured for the application folder and subfolders which could allow an attacker to gain persistence or potentially escalate privileges should a user with elevated credentials log onto the machine.
CVE-2026-40952 is a privilege misconfiguration in the Secure Access installer for the Windows client and server prior to version 14.55. Attackers with local access to the client or server can use it to elevate privileges to Administrator when Secure Access is installed in a non-default location.
