udp: Fix memory accounting leak.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: udp: Fix memory accounting leak. Matt Dowling reported a weird UDP memory usage issue. Under normal operation, the UDP memory usage reported in /proc/net/sockstat remains close to zero. However, it occasionally spiked to 524,288 pages and never dropped. Moreover, the value doubled when the application was terminated. Finally, it caused intermittent packet drops. We can reproduce the issue with the script below [0]: 1. /proc/net/sockstat reports 0 pages # cat /proc/net/sockstat | grep UDP: UDP: inuse 1 mem 0 2. Run the script till the report reaches 524,288 # python3 test.py & sleep 5 # cat /proc/net/sockstat | grep UDP: UDP: inuse 3 mem 524288 <-- (INT_MAX + 1) >> PAGE_SHIFT 3. Kill the socket and confirm the number never drops # pkill python3 && sleep 5 # cat /proc/net/sockstat | grep UDP: UDP: inuse 1 mem 524288 4. (necessary since v6.0) Trigger proto_memory_pcpu_drain() # python3 test.py & sleep 1 && pkill python3 5. The number doubles # cat /proc/net/sockstat | grep UDP: UDP: inuse 1 mem 1048577 The application set INT_MAX to SO_RCVBUF, which triggered an integer overflow in udp_rmem_release(). When a socket is close()d, udp_destruct_common() purges its receive queue and sums up skb->truesize in the queue. This total is calculated and stored in a local unsigned integer variable. The total size is then passed to udp_rmem_release() to adjust memory accounting. However, because the function takes a signed integer argument, the total size can wrap around, causing an overflow. Then, the released amount is calculated as follows: 1) Add size to sk->sk_forward_alloc. 2) Round down sk->sk_forward_alloc to the nearest lower multiple of PAGE_SIZE and assign it to amount. 3) Subtract amount from sk->sk_forward_alloc. 4) Pass amount >> PAGE_SHIFT to __sk_mem_reduce_allocated(). When the issue occurred, the total in udp_destruct_common() was 2147484480 (INT_MAX + 833), which was cast to -2147482816 in udp_rmem_release(). At 1) sk->sk_forward_alloc is changed from 3264 to -2147479552, and 2) sets -2147479552 to amount. 3) reverts the wraparound, so we don't see a warning in inet_sock_destruct(). However, udp_memory_allocated ends up doubling at 4). Since commit 3cd3399dd7a8 ("net: implement per-cpu reserves for memory_allocated"), memory usage no longer doubles immediately after a socket is close()d because __sk_mem_reduce_allocated() caches the amount in udp_memory_per_cpu_fw_alloc. However, the next time a UDP socket receives a packet, the subtraction takes effect, causing UDP memory usage to double. This issue makes further memory allocation fail once the socket's sk->sk_rmem_alloc exceeds net.ipv4.udp_rmem_min, resulting in packet drops. To prevent this issue, let's use unsigned int for the calculation and call sk_forward_alloc_add() only once for the small delta. Note that first_packet_length() also potentially has the same problem. [0]: from socket import * SO_RCVBUFFORCE = 33 INT_MAX = (2 ** 31) - 1 s = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM) s.bind(('', 0)) s.setsockopt(SOL_SOCKET, SO_RCVBUFFORCE, INT_MAX) c = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM) c.connect(s.getsockname()) data = b'a' * 100 while True: c.send(data)

[0]: from socket import * SO_RCVBUFFORCE = 33 INT_MAX = (2 ** 31) - 1 s = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM) s.bind(('', 0)) s.setsockopt(SOL_SOCKET, SO_RCVBUFFORCE, INT_MAX) c = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM) c.connect(s.getsockname()) data = b'a' * 100 while True: c.send(data)

mmc: vub300: fix return value check of mmc_add_host()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mmc: vub300: fix return value check of mmc_add_host() mmc_add_host() may return error, if we ignore its return value, the memory that allocated in mmc_alloc_host() will be leaked and it will lead a kernel crash because of deleting not added device in the remove path. So fix this by checking the return value and goto error path which will call mmc_free_host(), besides, the timer added before mmc_add_host() needs be del. And this patch fixes another missing call mmc_free_host() if usb_control_msg() fails.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: remoteproc: qcom_q6v5_mss: Fix some leaks in q6v5_alloc_memory_region The device_node pointer is returned by of_parse_phandle() or of_get_child_by_name() with refcount incremented. We should use of_node_put() on it when done. This function only call of_node_put(node) when of_address_to_resource succeeds, missing error cases.

mm/huge_memory: Fix xarray node memory leak

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/huge_memory: Fix xarray node memory leak If xas_split_alloc() fails to allocate the necessary nodes to complete the xarray entry split, it sets the xa_state to -ENOMEM, which xas_nomem() then interprets as "Please allocate more memory", not as "Please free any unnecessary memory" (which was the intended outcome). It's confusing to use xas_nomem() to free memory in this context, so call xas_destroy() instead.

Currently usb_submit_urb is called directly to submit deferred tx urbs after unanchor them. So the usb_giveback_urb_bh would failed to unref it in usb_unanchor_urb and cause memory leak. Put those urbs in tx_anchor to avoid the leak, and also fix the error handling.

btrfs: fix inode list leak during backref walking at find_parent_nodes()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: btrfs: fix inode list leak during backref walking at find_parent_nodes() During backref walking, at find_parent_nodes(), if we are dealing with a data extent and we get an error while resolving the indirect backrefs, at resolve_indirect_refs(), or in the while loop that iterates over the refs in the direct refs rbtree, we end up leaking the inode lists attached to the direct refs we have in the direct refs rbtree that were not yet added to the refs ulist passed as argument to find_parent_nodes(). Since they were not yet added to the refs ulist and prelim_release() does not free the lists, on error the caller can only free the lists attached to the refs that were added to the refs ulist, all the remaining refs get their inode lists never freed, therefore leaking their memory. Fix this by having prelim_release() always free any attached inode list to each ref found in the rbtree, and have find_parent_nodes() set the ref's inode list to NULL once it transfers ownership of the inode list to a ref added to the refs ulist passed to find_parent_nodes().

virtio_net: fix memory leak inside XPD_TX with mergeable

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: virtio_net: fix memory leak inside XPD_TX with mergeable When we call xdp_convert_buff_to_frame() to get xdpf, if it returns NULL, we should check if xdp_page was allocated by xdp_linearize_page(). If it is newly allocated, it should be freed here alone. Just like any other "goto err_xdp".

mxser: fix xmit_buf leak in activate when LSR == 0xff

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mxser: fix xmit_buf leak in activate when LSR == 0xff When LSR is 0xff in ->activate() (rather unlike), we return an error. Provided ->shutdown() is not called when ->activate() fails, nothing actually frees the buffer in this case. Fix this by properly freeing the buffer in a designated label. We jump there also from the "!info->type" if now too.

iavf: Fix handling of dummy receive descriptors

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iavf: Fix handling of dummy receive descriptors Fix memory leak caused by not handling dummy receive descriptor properly. iavf_get_rx_buffer now sets the rx_buffer return value for dummy receive descriptors. Without this patch, when the hardware writes a dummy descriptor, iavf would not free the page allocated for the previous receive buffer. This is an unlikely event but can still happen. dpaa2-eth: retrieve the virtual address before dma_unmap

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: dpaa2-eth: retrieve the virtual address before dma_unmap The TSO header was DMA unmapped before the virtual address was retrieved and then used to free the buffer. This meant that we were actually removing the DMA map and then trying to search for it to help in retrieving the virtual address. This lead to a invalid virtual address being used in the kfree call. Fix this by calling dpaa2_iova_to_virt() prior to the dma_unmap call. [ 487.231819] Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address fffffd9807000008 (...) capabilities: fix potential memleak on error path from vfs_getxattr_alloc()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: capabilities: fix potential memleak on error path from vfs_getxattr_alloc() In cap_inode_getsecurity(), we will use vfs_getxattr_alloc() to complete the memory allocation of tmpbuf, if we have completed the memory allocation of tmpbuf, but failed to call handler->get(...), there will be a memleak in below logic: |-- ret = (int)vfs_getxattr_alloc(mnt_userns, ...) | /* ^^^ alloc for tmpbuf */ |-- value = krealloc(*xattr_value, error + 1, flags) | /* ^^^ alloc memory */ |-- error = handler->get(handler, ...) | /* error! */ |-- *xattr_value = value | /* xattr_value is &tmpbuf (memory leak!) */ So we will try to free(tmpbuf) after vfs_getxattr_alloc() fails to fix it. hugetlbfs: don't delete error page from pagecache

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: hugetlbfs: don't delete error page from pagecache This change is very similar to the change that was made for shmem [1], and it solves the same problem but for HugeTLBFS instead. Currently, when poison is found in a HugeTLB page, the page is removed from the page cache. That means that attempting to map or read that hugepage in the future will result in a new hugepage being allocated instead of notifying the user that the page was poisoned. As [1] states, this is effectively memory corruption. The fix is to leave the page in the page cache. If the user attempts to use a poisoned HugeTLB page with a syscall, the syscall will fail with EIO, the same error code that shmem uses. For attempts to map the page, the thread will get a BUS_MCEERR_AR SIGBUS. [1]: commit a76054266661 ("mm: shmem: don't truncate page if memory failure happens")
