mm: multi-gen LRU: fix crash during cgroup migration

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm: multi-gen LRU: fix crash during cgroup migration lru_gen_migrate_mm() assumes lru_gen_add_mm() runs prior to itself. This isn't true for the following scenario: CPU 1 CPU 2 clone() cgroup_can_fork() cgroup_procs_write() cgroup_post_fork() task_lock() lru_gen_migrate_mm() task_unlock() task_lock() lru_gen_add_mm() task_unlock() And when the above happens, kernel crashes because of linked list corruption (mm_struct->lru_gen.list).

User can access the zram device by sysfs after device_add_disk(), so there is a time window to trigger the NULL pointer dereference. Move it ahead device_add_disk() to make sure when user can access the zram device, it is ready. comp_algorithm_set() is protected by zram->init_lock in other places and no such problem.

Currently the cxl_nvd is registered after the endpoint port probe. The endpoint probe, in the case of autoassembly of regions, can cause a pmem region probe requiring the not yet available cxl_nvd. Adjust the sequence so this dependency is met. This requires adding a port parameter to cxl_find_nvdimm_bridge() that can be used to query the ancestor root port. The endpoint port is not yet available, but will share a common ancestor with its parent, so start the query from there instead.

tracing: Have trace_event_file have ref counters

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tracing: Have trace_event_file have ref counters The following can crash the kernel: # cd /sys/kernel/tracing # echo 'p:sched schedule' > kprobe_events # exec 5>>events/kprobes/sched/enable # > kprobe_events # exec 5>&- The above commands: 1. Change directory to the tracefs directory 2. Create a kprobe event (doesn't matter what one) 3. Open bash file descriptor 5 on the enable file of the kprobe event 4. Delete the kprobe event (removes the files too) 5. Close the bash file descriptor 5 The above causes a crash! BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000028 #PF: supervisor read access in kernel mode #PF: error_code(0x0000) - not-present page PGD 0 P4D 0 Oops: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP PTI CPU: 6 PID: 877 Comm: bash Not tainted 6.5.0-rc4-test-00008-g2c6b6b1029d4-dirty #186 Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (Q35 + ICH9, 2009), BIOS 1.16.2-debian-1.16.2-1 04/01/2014 RIP: 0010:tracing_release_file_tr+0xc/0x50 What happens here is that the kprobe event creates a trace_event_file "file" descriptor that represents the file in tracefs to the event. It maintains state of the event (is it enabled for the given instance?). Opening the "enable" file gets a reference to the event "file" descriptor via the open file descriptor. When the kprobe event is deleted, the file is also deleted from the tracefs system which also frees the event "file" descriptor. But as the tracefs file is still opened by user space, it will not be totally removed until the final dput() is called on it. But this is not true with the event "file" descriptor that is already freed. If the user does a write to or simply closes the file descriptor it will reference the event "file" descriptor that was just freed, causing a use-after-free bug. To solve this, add a ref count to the event "file" descriptor as well as a new flag called "FREED". The "file" will not be freed until the last reference is released. But the FREE flag will be set when the event is removed to prevent any more modifications to that event from happening, even if there's still a reference to the event "file" descriptor.

bpf: Fix memleak due to fentry attach failure

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Fix memleak due to fentry attach failure If it fails to attach fentry, the allocated bpf trampoline image will be left in the system. That can be verified by checking /proc/kallsyms. This meamleak can be verified by a simple bpf program as follows: SEC("fentry/trap_init") int fentry_run() { return 0; } It will fail to attach trap_init because this function is freed after kernel init, and then we can find the trampoline image is left in the system by checking /proc/kallsyms. $ tail /proc/kallsyms ffffffffc0613000 t bpf_trampoline_6442453466_1 [bpf] ffffffffc06c3000 t bpf_trampoline_6442453466_1 [bpf] $ bpftool btf dump file /sys/kernel/btf/vmlinux | grep "FUNC 'trap_init'" [2522] FUNC 'trap_init' type_id=119 linkage=static $ echo $((6442453466 & 0x7fffffff)) 2522 Note that there are two left bpf trampoline images, that is because the libbpf will fallback to raw tracepoint if -EINVAL is returned.

ext4: fix uninitialized ratelimit_state->lock access in __ext4_fill_super()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ext4: fix uninitialized ratelimit_state->lock access in __ext4_fill_super() In the following concurrency we will access the uninitialized rs->lock: ext4_fill_super ext4_register_sysfs // sysfs registered msg_ratelimit_interval_ms // Other processes modify rs->interval to // non-zero via msg_ratelimit_interval_ms ext4_orphan_cleanup ext4_msg(sb, KERN_INFO, "Errors on filesystem, " __ext4_msg ___ratelimit(&(EXT4_SB(sb)->s_msg_ratelimit_state) if (!rs->interval) // do nothing if interval is 0 return 1; raw_spin_trylock_irqsave(&rs->lock, flags) raw_spin_trylock(lock) _raw_spin_trylock __raw_spin_trylock spin_acquire(&lock->dep_map, 0, 1, _RET_IP_) lock_acquire __lock_acquire register_lock_class assign_lock_key dump_stack(); ratelimit_state_init(&sbi->s_msg_ratelimit_state, 5 * HZ, 10); raw_spin_lock_init(&rs->lock); // init rs->lock here and get the following dump_stack: ========================================================= INFO: trying to register non-static key. The code is fine but needs lockdep annotation, or maybe you didn't initialize this object before use? turning off the locking correctness validator. CPU: 12 PID: 753 Comm: mount Tainted: G E 6.7.0-rc6-next-20231222 #504 [...] Call Trace: dump_stack_lvl+0xc5/0x170 dump_stack+0x18/0x30 register_lock_class+0x740/0x7c0 __lock_acquire+0x69/0x13a0 lock_acquire+0x120/0x450 _raw_spin_trylock+0x98/0xd0 ___ratelimit+0xf6/0x220 __ext4_msg+0x7f/0x160 [ext4] ext4_orphan_cleanup+0x665/0x740 [ext4] __ext4_fill_super+0x21ea/0x2b10 [ext4] ext4_fill_super+0x14d/0x360 [ext4] [...] ========================================================= Normally interval is 0 until s_msg_ratelimit_state is initialized, so ___ratelimit() does nothing. But registering sysfs precedes initializing rs->lock, so it is possible to change rs->interval to a non-zero value via the msg_ratelimit_interval_ms interface of sysfs while rs->lock is uninitialized, and then a call to ext4_msg triggers the problem by accessing an uninitialized rs->lock. Therefore register sysfs after all initializations are complete to avoid such problems.

landlock: Fix d_parent walk

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: landlock: Fix d_parent walk The WARN_ON_ONCE() in collect_domain_accesses() can be triggered when trying to link a root mount point. This cannot work in practice because this directory is mounted, but the VFS check is done after the call to security_path_link(). HID: hyperv: avoid struct memcpy overrun warning

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: HID: hyperv: avoid struct memcpy overrun warning A previous patch addressed the fortified memcpy warning for most builds, but I still see this one with gcc-9: In file included from include/linux/string.h:254, from drivers/hid/hid-hyperv.c:8: In function 'fortify_memcpy_chk', inlined from 'mousevsc_on_receive' at drivers/hid/hid-hyperv.c:272:3: include/linux/fortify-string.h:583:4: error: call to '__write_overflow_field' declared with attribute warning: detected write beyond size of field (1st parameter); maybe use struct_group()? [-Werror=attribute-warning] 583 | __write_overflow_field(p_size_field, size); | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My guess is that the WARN_ON() itself is what confuses gcc, so it no longer sees that there is a correct range check. Rework the code in a way that helps readability and avoids the warning.

resource,kexec: walk_system_ram_res_rev must retain resource flags

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: resource,kexec: walk_system_ram_res_rev must retain resource flags walk_system_ram_res_rev() erroneously discards resource flags when passing the information to the callback. This causes systems with IORESOURCE_SYSRAM_DRIVER_MANAGED memory to have these resources selected during kexec to store kexec buffers if that memory happens to be at placed above normal system ram. This leads to undefined behavior after reboot. If the kexec buffer is never touched, nothing happens. If the kexec buffer is touched, it could lead to a crash (like below) or undefined behavior. Tested on a system with CXL memory expanders with driver managed memory, TPM enabled, and CONFIG_IMA_KEXEC=y. Adding printk's showed the flags were being discarded and as a result the check for IORESOURCE_SYSRAM_DRIVER_MANAGED passes. find_next_iomem_res: name(System RAM (kmem)) start(10000000000) end(1034fffffff) flags(83000200) locate_mem_hole_top_down: start(10000000000) end(1034fffffff) flags(0) [.] BUG: unable to handle page fault for address: ffff89834ffff000 [.] #PF: supervisor read access in kernel mode [.] #PF: error_code(0x0000) - not-present page [.] PGD c04c8bf067 P4D c04c8bf067 PUD c04c8be067 PMD 0 [.] Oops: 0000 [#1] SMP [.] RIP: 0010:ima_restore_measurement_list+0x95/0x4b0 [.] RSP: 0018:ffffc900000d3a80 EFLAGS: 00010286 [.] RAX: 0000000000001000 RBX: 0000000000000000 RCX: ffff89834ffff000 [.] RDX: 0000000000000018 RSI: ffff89834ffff000 RDI: ffff89834ffff018 [.] RBP: ffffc900000d3ba0 R08: 0000000000000020 R09: ffff888132b8a900 [.] R10: 4000000000000000 R11: 000000003a616d69 R12: 0000000000000000 [.] R13: ffffffff8404ac28 R14: 0000000000000000 R15: ffff89834ffff000 [.] FS: 0000000000000000(0000) GS:ffff893d44640000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 [.] CS: 0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 0000000080050033 [.] ata5: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300) [.] CR2: ffff89834ffff000 CR3: 000001034d00f001 CR4: 0000000000770ef0 [.] PKRU: 55555554 [.] Call Trace: [.] <TASK> [.] ? __die+0x78/0xc0 [.] ? page_fault_oops+0x2a8/0x3a0 [.] ? exc_page_fault+0x84/0x130 [.] ? asm_exc_page_fault+0x22/0x30 [.] ? ima_restore_measurement_list+0x95/0x4b0 [.] ? template_desc_init_fields+0x317/0x410 [.] ? crypto_alloc_tfm_node+0x9c/0xc0 [.] ? init_ima_lsm+0x30/0x30 [.] ima_load_kexec_buffer+0x72/0xa0 [.] ima_init+0x44/0xa0 [.] __initstub__kmod_ima__373_1201_init_ima7+0x1e/0xb0 [.] ? init_ima_lsm+0x30/0x30 [.] do_one_initcall+0xad/0x200 [.] ? idr_alloc_cyclic+0xaa/0x110 [.] ? new_slab+0x12c/0x420 [.] ? new_slab+0x12c/0x420 [.] ? number+0x12a/0x430 [.] ? sysvec_apic_timer_interrupt+0xa/0x80 [.] ? asm_sysvec_apic_timer_interrupt+0x16/0x20 [.] ? parse_args+0xd4/0x380 [.] ? parse_args+0x14b/0x380 [.] kernel_init_freeable+0x1c1/0x2b0 [.] ? rest_init+0xb0/0xb0 [.] kernel_init+0x16/0x1a0 [.] ret_from_fork+0x2f/0x40 [.] ? rest_init+0xb0/0xb0 [.] ret_from_fork_asm+0x11/0x20 [.] </TASK>

xattr: switch to CLASS(fd)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fs/xattr: missing fdput() in fremovexattr error path In the Linux kernel, the fremovexattr() syscall calls fdget() to acquire a file reference but returns early without calling fdput() when strncpy_from_user() fails on the name argument. In multi-threaded processes where fdget() takes the slow path, this permanently leaks one file reference per call, pinning the struct file and associated kernel objects in memory. An unprivileged local user can exploit this to cause kernel memory exhaustion. The issue was inadvertently fixed by commit a71874379ec8 ("xattr: switch to CLASS(fd)").

mm/filemap: fix filemap_get_folios_contig THP panic

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/filemap: fix filemap_get_folios_contig THP panic Patch series "memfd-pin huge page fixes". Fix multiple bugs that occur when using memfd_pin_folios with hugetlb pages and THP. The hugetlb bugs only bite when the page is not yet faulted in when memfd_pin_folios is called. The THP bug bites when the starting offset passed to memfd_pin_folios is not huge page aligned. See the commit messages for details. This patch (of 5): memfd_pin_folios on memory backed by THP panics if the requested start offset is not huge page aligned: BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000036 RIP: 0010:filemap_get_folios_contig+0xdf/0x290 RSP: 0018:ffffc9002092fbe8 EFLAGS: 00010202 RAX: 0000000000000002 RBX: 0000000000000002 RCX: 0000000000000002 The fault occurs here, because xas_load returns a folio with value 2: filemap_get_folios_contig() for (folio = xas_load(&xas); folio && xas.xa_index <= end; folio = xas_next(&xas)) { ... if (!folio_try_get(folio)) <-- BOOM "2" is an xarray sibling entry. We get it because memfd_pin_folios does not round the indices passed to filemap_get_folios_contig to huge page boundaries for THP, so we load from the middle of a huge page range see a sibling. (It does round for hugetlbfs, at the is_file_hugepages test). To fix, if the folio is a sibling, then return the next index as the starting point for the next call to filemap_get_folios_contig.

can: dev: can_get_echo_skb(): prevent call to kfree_skb() in hard IRQ context

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: can: dev: can_get_echo_skb(): prevent call to kfree_skb() in hard IRQ context If a driver calls can_get_echo_skb() during a hardware IRQ (which is often, but not always, the case), the 'WARN_ON(in_irq)' in net/core/skbuff.c#skb_release_head_state() might be triggered, under network congestion circumstances, together with the potential risk of a NULL pointer dereference. The root cause of this issue is the call to kfree_skb() instead of dev_kfree_skb_irq() in net/core/dev.c#enqueue_to_backlog(). This patch prevents the skb to be freed within the call to netif_rx() by incrementing its reference count with skb_get(). The skb is finally freed by one of the in-irq-context safe functions: dev_consume_skb_any() or dev_kfree_skb_any(). The "any" version is used because some drivers might call can_get_echo_skb() in a normal context. The reason for this issue to occur is that initially, in the core network stack, loopback skb were not supposed to be received in hardware IRQ context. The CAN stack is an exeption. This bug was previously reported back in 2017 in [1] but the proposed patch never got accepted. While [1] directly modifies net/core/dev.c, we try to propose here a smoother modification local to CAN network stack (the assumption behind is that only CAN devices are affected by this issue). bpf: Fix insufficient bounds propagation from adjust_scalar_min_max_vals

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Fix insufficient bounds propagation from adjust_scalar_min_max_vals Kuee reported a corner case where the tnum becomes constant after the call to __reg_bound_offset(), but the register's bounds are not, that is, its min bounds are still not equal to the register's max bounds. Intersecting with var_off has not been done at that point via __update_reg_bounds(), which would have improved the umax to be equal to umin. Refactor the tnum <> min/max bounds information flow into a reg_bounds_sync() helper and use it consistently everywhere. After the fix, bounds have been corrected to R3_w=scalar(imm=0,umax=0,var_off=(0x0; 0x0)) and thus the register is regarded as a 'proper' constant scalar of 0. media: aspeed: fix clock handling logic

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: aspeed: fix clock handling logic Video engine uses eclk and vclk for its clock sources and its reset control is coupled with eclk so the current clock enabling sequence works like below. Enable eclk De-assert Video Engine reset 10ms delay Enable vclk It introduces improper reset on the Video Engine hardware and eventually the hardware generates unexpected DMA memory transfers that can corrupt memory region in random and sporadic patterns. This issue is observed very rarely on some specific AST2500 SoCs but it causes a critical kernel panic with making a various shape of signature so it's extremely hard to debug. Moreover, the issue is observed even when the video engine is not actively used because udevd turns on the video engine hardware for a short time to make a query in every boot. To fix this issue, this commit changes the clock handling logic to make the reset de-assertion triggered after enabling both eclk and vclk. Also, it adds clk_unprepare call for a case when probe fails. clk: ast2600: fix reset settings for eclk and vclk Video engine reset setting should be coupled with eclk to match it with the setting for previous Aspeed SoCs which is defined in clk-aspeed.c since all Aspeed SoCs are sharing a single video engine driver. Also, reset bit 6 is defined as 'Video Engine' reset in datasheet so it should be de-asserted when eclk is enabled. This commit fixes the setting.

bpf, sockmap: Check for any of tcp_bpf_prots when cloning a listener

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf, sockmap: Check for any of tcp_bpf_prots when cloning a listener A listening socket linked to a sockmap has its sk_prot overridden. It points to one of the struct proto variants in tcp_bpf_prots. The variant depends on the socket's family and which sockmap programs are attached. A child socket cloned from a TCP listener initially inherits their sk_prot. But before cloning is finished, we restore the child's proto to the listener's original non-tcp_bpf_prots one. This happens in tcp_create_openreq_child -> tcp_bpf_clone. Today, in tcp_bpf_clone we detect if the child's proto should be restored by checking only for the TCP_BPF_BASE proto variant. This is not correct. The sk_prot of listening socket linked to a sockmap can point to to any variant in tcp_bpf_prots. If the listeners sk_prot happens to be not the TCP_BPF_BASE variant, then the child socket unintentionally is left if the inherited sk_prot by tcp_bpf_clone. This leads to issues like infinite recursion on close [1], because the child state is otherwise not set up for use with tcp_bpf_prot operations. Adjust the check in tcp_bpf_clone to detect all of tcp_bpf_prots variants. Note that it wouldn't be sufficient to check the socket state when overriding the sk_prot in tcp_bpf_update_proto in order to always use the TCP_BPF_BASE variant for listening sockets. Since commit b8b8315e39ff ("bpf, sockmap: Remove unhash handler for BPF sockmap usage") it is possible for a socket to transition to TCP_LISTEN state while already linked to a sockmap, e.g. connect() -> insert into map -> connect(AF_UNSPEC) -> listen(). sctp: check send stream number after wait_for_sndbuf

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sctp: check send stream number after wait_for_sndbuf This patch fixes a corner case where the asoc out stream count may change after wait_for_sndbuf. When the main thread in the client starts a connection, if its out stream count is set to N while the in stream count in the server is set to N - 2, another thread in the client keeps sending the msgs with stream number N - 1, and waits for sndbuf before processing INIT_ACK. However, after processing INIT_ACK, the out stream count in the client is shrunk to N - 2, the same to the in stream count in the server. The crash occurs when the thread waiting for sndbuf is awake and sends the msg in a non-existing stream(N - 1), the call trace is as below: KASAN: null-ptr-deref in range [0x0000000000000038-0x000000000000003f] Call Trace: <TASK> sctp_cmd_send_msg net/sctp/sm_sideeffect.c:1114 [inline] sctp_cmd_interpreter net/sctp/sm_sideeffect.c:1777 [inline] sctp_side_effects net/sctp/sm_sideeffect.c:1199 [inline] sctp_do_sm+0x197d/0x5310 net/sctp/sm_sideeffect.c:1170 sctp_primitive_SEND+0x9f/0xc0 net/sctp/primitive.c:163 sctp_sendmsg_to_asoc+0x10eb/0x1a30 net/sctp/socket.c:1868 sctp_sendmsg+0x8d4/0x1d90 net/sctp/socket.c:2026 inet_sendmsg+0x9d/0xe0 net/ipv4/af_inet.c:825 sock_sendmsg_nosec net/socket.c:722 [inline] sock_sendmsg+0xde/0x190 net/socket.c:745 The fix is to add an unlikely check for the send stream number after the thread wakes up from the wait_for_sndbuf.

net: dcb: choose correct policy to parse DCB_ATTR_BCN

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: dcb: choose correct policy to parse DCB_ATTR_BCN The dcbnl_bcn_setcfg uses erroneous policy to parse tb[DCB_ATTR_BCN], which is introduced in commit 859ee3c43812 ("DCB: Add support for DCB BCN"). Please see the comment in below code static int dcbnl_bcn_setcfg(...) { ... ret = nla_parse_nested_deprecated(..., dcbnl_pfc_up_nest, .. ) // !!! dcbnl_pfc_up_nest for attributes // DCB_PFC_UP_ATTR_0 to DCB_PFC_UP_ATTR_ALL in enum dcbnl_pfc_up_attrs ... for (i = DCB_BCN_ATTR_RP_0; i <= DCB_BCN_ATTR_RP_7; i++) { // !!! DCB_BCN_ATTR_RP_0 to DCB_BCN_ATTR_RP_7 in enum dcbnl_bcn_attrs ... value_byte = nla_get_u8(data[i]); ... } ... for (i = DCB_BCN_ATTR_BCNA_0; i <= DCB_BCN_ATTR_RI; i++) { // !!! DCB_BCN_ATTR_BCNA_0 to DCB_BCN_ATTR_RI in enum dcbnl_bcn_attrs ... value_int = nla_get_u32(data[i]); ... } ... } That is, the nla_parse_nested_deprecated uses dcbnl_pfc_up_nest attributes to parse nlattr defined in dcbnl_pfc_up_attrs. But the following access code fetch each nlattr as dcbnl_bcn_attrs attributes. By looking up the associated nla_policy for dcbnl_bcn_attrs. We can find the beginning part of these two policies are "same". static const struct nla_policy dcbnl_pfc_up_nest[...] = { [DCB_PFC_UP_ATTR_0] = {.type = NLA_U8}, [DCB_PFC_UP_ATTR_1] = {.type = NLA_U8}, [DCB_PFC_UP_ATTR_2] = {.type = NLA_U8}, [DCB_PFC_UP_ATTR_3] = {.type = NLA_U8}, [DCB_PFC_UP_ATTR_4] = {.type = NLA_U8}, [DCB_PFC_UP_ATTR_5] = {.type = NLA_U8}, [DCB_PFC_UP_ATTR_6] = {.type = NLA_U8}, [DCB_PFC_UP_ATTR_7] = {.type = NLA_U8}, [DCB_PFC_UP_ATTR_ALL] = {.type = NLA_FLAG}, }; static const struct nla_policy dcbnl_bcn_nest[...] = { [DCB_BCN_ATTR_RP_0] = {.type = NLA_U8}, [DCB_BCN_ATTR_RP_1] = {.type = NLA_U8}, [DCB_BCN_ATTR_RP_2] = {.type = NLA_U8}, [DCB_BCN_ATTR_RP_3] = {.type = NLA_U8}, [DCB_BCN_ATTR_RP_4] = {.type = NLA_U8}, [DCB_BCN_ATTR_RP_5] = {.type = NLA_U8}, [DCB_BCN_ATTR_RP_6] = {.type = NLA_U8}, [DCB_BCN_ATTR_RP_7] = {.type = NLA_U8}, [DCB_BCN_ATTR_RP_ALL] = {.type = NLA_FLAG}, // from here is somewhat different [DCB_BCN_ATTR_BCNA_0] = {.type = NLA_U32}, ... [DCB_BCN_ATTR_ALL] = {.type = NLA_FLAG}, }; Therefore, the current code is buggy and this nla_parse_nested_deprecated could overflow the dcbnl_pfc_up_nest and use the adjacent nla_policy to parse attributes from DCB_BCN_ATTR_BCNA_0. Hence use the correct policy dcbnl_bcn_nest to parse the nested tb[DCB_ATTR_BCN] TLV.
