In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: arp: do not assume dev_hard_header() does not change skb->head arp_create() is the only dev_hard_header() caller making assumption about skb->head being unchanged. netfilter: ctnetlink: zero expect NAT fields when CTA_EXPECT_NAT absent

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: ctnetlink: zero expect NAT fields when CTA_EXPECT_NAT absent ctnetlink_alloc_expect() allocates expectations from a non-zeroing slab cache via nf_ct_expect_alloc(). When CTA_EXPECT_NAT is not present in the netlink message, saved_addr and saved_proto are never initialized. Stale data from a previous slab occupant can then be dumped to userspace by ctnetlink_exp_dump_expect(), which checks these fields to decide whether to emit CTA_EXPECT_NAT. The safe sibling nf_ct_expect_init(), used by the packet path, explicitly zeroes these fields. Zero saved_addr, saved_proto and dir in the else branch, guarded by IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_NF_NAT) since these fields only exist when NAT is enabled. Confirmed by priming the expect slab with NAT-bearing expectations, freeing them, creating a new expectation without CTA_EXPECT_NAT, and observing that the ctnetlink dump emits a spurious CTA_EXPECT_NAT containing stale data from the prior allocation.

serial: 8250: Fix TX deadlock when using DMA

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: serial: 8250: Fix TX deadlock when using DMA `dmaengine_terminate_async` does not guarantee that the `__dma_tx_complete` callback will run. The callback is currently the only place where `dma->tx_running` gets cleared. If the transaction is canceled and the callback never runs, then `dma->tx_running` will never get cleared and we will never schedule new TX DMA transactions again. This change makes it so we clear `dma->tx_running` after we terminate the DMA transaction. This is "safe" because `serial8250_tx_dma_flush` is holding the UART port lock. The first thing the callback does is also grab the UART port lock, so access to `dma->tx_running` is serialized.

ASoC: SDCA: Fix errors in IRQ cleanup

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ASoC: SDCA: Fix errors in IRQ cleanup IRQs are enabled through sdca_irq_populate() from component probe using devm_request_threaded_irq(), this however means the IRQs can persist if the sound card is torn down. Some of the IRQ handlers store references to the card and the kcontrols which can then fail. Some detail of the crash was explained in [1]. Generally it is not advised to use devm outside of bus probe, so the code is updated to not use devm. The IRQ requests are not moved to bus probe time as it makes passing the snd_soc_component into the IRQs very awkward and would the require a second step once the component is available, so it is simpler to just register the IRQs at this point, even though that necessitates some manual cleanup.

xfrm: esp: avoid in-place decrypt on shared skb frags

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: xfrm: esp: avoid in-place decrypt on shared skb frags MSG_SPLICE_PAGES can attach pages from a pipe directly to an skb. TCP marks such skbs with SKBFL_SHARED_FRAG after skb_splice_from_iter(), so later paths that may modify packet data can first make a private copy. The IPv4/IPv6 datagram append paths did not set this flag when splicing pages into UDP skbs. That leaves an ESP-in-UDP packet made from shared pipe pages looking like an ordinary uncloned nonlinear skb. ESP input then takes the no-COW fast path for uncloned skbs without a frag_list and decrypts in place over data that is not owned privately by the skb. Mark IPv4/IPv6 datagram splice frags with SKBFL_SHARED_FRAG, matching TCP. Also make ESP input fall back to skb_cow_data() when the flag is present, so ESP does not decrypt externally backed frags in place. Private nonlinear skb frags still use the existing fast path. This intentionally does not change ESP output. In esp_output_head(), the path that appends the ESP trailer to existing skb tailroom without calling skb_cow_data() is not reachable for nonlinear skbs: skb_tailroom() returns zero when skb->data_len is nonzero, while ESP tailen is positive. Thus ESP output will either use the separate destination-frag path or fall back to skb_cow_data().

USB: core: Limit the length of unkillable synchronous timeouts

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: USB: core: Limit the length of unkillable synchronous timeouts The usb_control_msg(), usb_bulk_msg(), and usb_interrupt_msg() APIs in usbcore allow unlimited timeout durations. And since they use uninterruptible waits, this leaves open the possibility of hanging a task for an indefinitely long time, with no way to kill it short of unplugging the target device. To prevent this sort of problem, enforce a maximum limit on the length of these unkillable timeouts. The limit chosen here, somewhat arbitrarily, is 60 seconds. On many systems (although not all) this is short enough to avoid triggering the kernel's hung-task detector. In addition, clear up the ambiguity of negative timeout values by treating them the same as 0, i.e., using the maximum allowed timeout.

Unfortunately, these Ceph functions are undocumented and its semantics can only be derived from the code. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: dm: clear cloned request bio pointer when last clone bio completes Stale rq->bio values have been observed to cause double-initialization of cloned bios in request-based device-mapper targets, leading to use-after-free and double-free scenarios. One such case occurs when using dm-multipath on top of a PCIe NVMe namespace, where cloned request bios are freed during blk_complete_request(), but rq->bio is left intact. Subsequent clone teardown then attempts to free the same bios again via blk_rq_unprep_clone(). In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: md raid: fix hang when stopping arrays with metadata through dm-raid When using device-mapper's dm-raid target, stopping a RAID array can cause the system to hang under specific conditions. This occurs when: - A dm-raid managed device tree is suspended from top to bottom (the top-level RAID device is suspended first, followed by its underlying metadata and data devices) - The top-level RAID device is then removed Removing the top-level device triggers a hang in the following sequence: the dm-raid destructor calls md_stop(), which tries to flush the write-intent bitmap by writing to the metadata sub-devices. However, these devices are already suspended, making them unable to complete the write-intent operations and causing an indefinite block. Fix: - Prevent bitmap flushing when md_stop() is called from dm-raid destructor context and avoid a quiescing/unquescing cycle which could also cause I/O - Still allow write-intent bitmap flushing when called from dm-raid suspend context This ensures that RAID array teardown can complete successfully even when the underlying devices are in a suspended state. This second patch uses md_is_rdwr() to distinguish between suspend and destructor paths as elaborated on above.

Remove the redundant xfrm_pol_hold_rcu() call to fix the refcount imbalance and prevent the memory leak. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with Syzkaller.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: btrfs: fix transaction abort when snapshotting received subvolumes Currently a user can trigger a transaction abort by snapshotting a previously received snapshot a bunch of times until we reach a BTRFS_UUID_KEY_RECEIVED_SUBVOL item overflow (the maximum item size we can store in a leaf). This is very likely not common in practice, but if it happens, it turns the filesystem into RO mode. The snapshot, send and set_received_subvol and subvol_setflags (used by receive) don't require CAP_SYS_ADMIN, just inode_owner_or_capable(). A malicious user could use this to turn a filesystem into RO mode and disrupt a system. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipvs: fix NULL deref in ip_vs_add_service error path When ip_vs_bind_scheduler() succeeds in ip_vs_add_service(), the local variable sched is set to NULL. If ip_vs_start_estimator() subsequently fails, the out_err cleanup calls ip_vs_unbind_scheduler(svc, sched) with sched == NULL. ip_vs_unbind_scheduler() passes the cur_sched NULL check (because svc->scheduler was set by the successful bind) but then dereferences the NULL sched parameter at sched->done_service, causing a kernel panic at offset 0x30 from NULL. mm/hugetlb: restore failed global reservations to subpool

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/hugetlb: restore failed global reservations to subpool Commit a833a693a490 ("mm: hugetlb: fix incorrect fallback for subpool") fixed an underflow error for hstate->resv_huge_pages caused by incorrectly attributing globally requested pages to the subpool's reservation. Unfortunately, this fix also introduced the opposite problem, which would leave spool->used_hpages elevated if the globally requested pages could not be acquired. This is because while a subpool's reserve pages only accounts for what is requested and allocated from the subpool, its "used" counter keeps track of what is consumed in total, both from the subpool and globally. Thus, we need to adjust spool->used_hpages in the other direction, and make sure that globally requested pages are uncharged from the subpool's used counter. Each failed allocation attempt increments the used_hpages counter by how many pages were requested from the global pool. Ultimately, this renders the subpool unusable, as used_hpages approaches the max limit. The issue can be reproduced as follows: 1. Allocate 4 hugetlb pages 2. Create a hugetlb mount with max=4, min=2 3. Consume 2 pages globally 4. Request 3 pages from the subpool (2 from subpool + 1 from global) 4.1 hugepage_subpool_get_pages(spool, 3) succeeds. used_hpages += 3 4.2 hugetlb_acct_memory(h, 1) fails: no global pages left used_hpages -= 2 5. Subpool now has used_hpages = 1, despite not being able to successfully allocate any hugepages. It believes it can now only allocate 3 more hugepages, not 4. With each failed allocation attempt incrementing the used counter, the subpool eventually reaches a point where its used counter equals its max counter. At that point, any future allocations that try to allocate hugeTLB pages from the subpool will fail, despite the subpool not having any of its hugeTLB pages consumed by any user. Once this happens, there is no way to make the subpool usable again, since there is no way to decrement the used counter as no process is really consuming the hugeTLB pages. The underflow issue that the original commit fixes still remains fixed as well. Without this fix, used_hpages would keep on leaking if hugetlb_acct_memory() fails.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: gadget: f_tcm: Fix NULL pointer dereferences in nexus handling The `tpg->tpg_nexus` pointer in the USB Target driver is dynamically managed and tied to userspace configuration via ConfigFS. It can be NULL if the USB host sends requests before the nexus is fully established or immediately after it is dropped. Currently, functions like `bot_submit_command()` and the data transfer paths retrieve `tv_nexus = tpg->tpg_nexus` and immediately dereference `tv_nexus->tvn_se_sess` without any validation. If a malicious or misconfigured USB host sends a BOT (Bulk-Only Transport) command during this race window, it triggers a NULL pointer dereference, leading to a kernel panic (local DoS). This exposes an inconsistent API usage within the module, as peer functions like `usbg_submit_command()` and `bot_send_bad_response()` correctly implement a NULL check for `tv_nexus` before proceeding. Fix this by bringing consistency to the nexus handling. Add the missing `if (!tv_nexus)` checks to the vulnerable BOT command and request processing paths, aborting the command gracefully with an error instead of crashing the system.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/bridge: Add missing pm_runtime_put_sync pm_runtime_get_sync() will increase the rumtime PM counter even when it returns an error. Thus a pairing decrement is needed to prevent refcount leak. Fix this by replacing this API with pm_runtime_resume_and_get(), which will not change the runtime PM counter on error. Besides, a matching decrement is needed on the error handling path to keep the counter balanced.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: block: fix rq-qos breakage from skipping rq_qos_done_bio() a647a524a467 ("block: don't call rq_qos_ops->done_bio if the bio isn't tracked") made bio_endio() skip rq_qos_done_bio() if BIO_TRACKED is not set. While this fixed a potential oops, it also broke blk-iocost by skipping the done_bio callback for merged bios. Before, whether a bio goes through rq_qos_throttle() or rq_qos_merge(), rq_qos_done_bio() would be called on the bio on completion with BIO_TRACKED distinguishing the former from the latter. rq_qos_done_bio() is not called for bios which wenth through rq_qos_merge(). This royally confuses blk-iocost as the merged bios never finish and are considered perpetually in-flight. One reliably reproducible failure mode is an intermediate cgroup geting stuck active preventing its children from being activated due to the leaf-only rule, leading to loss of control. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: mac80211: Don't finalize CSA in IBSS mode if state is disconnected When we are not connected to a channel, sending channel "switch" announcement doesn't make any sense. The BSS list is empty in that case. This causes the for loop in cfg80211_get_bss() to be bypassed, so the function returns NULL (check line 1424 of net/wireless/scan.c), causing the WARN_ON() in ieee80211_ibss_csa_beacon() to get triggered (check line 500 of net/mac80211/ibss.c), which was consequently reported on the syzkaller dashboard. Thus, check if we have an existing connection before generating the CSA beacon in ieee80211_ibss_finish_csa().

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: dsa: don't leak tagger-owned storage on switch driver unbind In the initial commit dc452a471dba ("net: dsa: introduce tagger-owned storage for private and shared data"), we had a call to tag_ops->disconnect(dst) issued from dsa_tree_free(), which is called at tree teardown time. There were problems with connecting to a switch tree as a whole, so this got reworked to connecting to individual switches within the tree. In this process, tag_ops->disconnect(ds) was made to be called only from switch.c (cross-chip notifiers emitted as a result of dynamic tag proto changes), but the normal driver teardown code path wasn't replaced with anything. Solve this problem by adding a function that does the opposite of dsa_switch_setup_tag_protocol(), which is called from the equivalent spot in dsa_switch_teardown(). The positioning here also ensures that we won't have any use-after-free in tagging protocol (*rcv) ops, since the teardown sequence is as follows: dsa_tree_teardown -> dsa_tree_teardown_master -> dsa_master_teardown -> unsets master->dsa_ptr, making no further packets match the ETH_P_XDSA packet type handler -> dsa_tree_teardown_ports -> dsa_port_teardown -> dsa_slave_destroy -> unregisters DSA net devices, there is even a synchronize_net() in unregister_netdevice_many() -> dsa_tree_teardown_switches -> dsa_switch_teardown -> dsa_switch_teardown_tag_protocol -> finally frees the tagger-owned storage

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfs: Fix missing xas_retry() calls in xarray iteration netfslib has a number of places in which it performs iteration of an xarray whilst being under the RCU read lock. It *should* call xas_retry() as the first thing inside of the loop and do "continue" if it returns true in case the xarray walker passed out a special value indicating that the walk needs to be redone from the root[*]. Fix this by adding the missing retry checks. [*] I wonder if this should be done inside xas_find(), xas_next_node() and suchlike, but I'm told that's not an simple change to effect. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: unshare: fix unshare_fs() handling There's an unpleasant corner case in unshare(2), when we have a CLONE_NEWNS in flags and current->fs hadn't been shared at all; in that case copy_mnt_ns() gets passed current->fs instead of a private copy, which causes interesting warts in proof of correctness] > I guess if private means fs->users == 1, the condition could still be true. Unfortunately, it's worse than just a convoluted proof of correctness. Consider the case when we have CLONE_NEWCGROUP in addition to CLONE_NEWNS (and current->fs->users == 1). We pass current->fs to copy_mnt_ns(), all right. Suppose it succeeds and flips current->fs->{pwd,root} to corresponding locations in the new namespace. Now we proceed to copy_cgroup_ns(), which fails (e.g. with -ENOMEM). We call put_mnt_ns() on the namespace created by copy_mnt_ns(), it's destroyed and its mount tree is dissolved, but... current->fs->root and current->fs->pwd are both left pointing to now detached mounts. They are pinning those, so it's not a UAF, but it leaves the calling process with unshare(2) failing with -ENOMEM _and_ leaving it with pwd and root on detached isolated mounts. The last part is clearly a bug. There is other fun related to that mess (races with pivot_root(), including the one between pivot_root() and fork(), of all things), but this one is easy to isolate and fix - treat CLONE_NEWNS as "allocate a new fs_struct even if it hadn't been shared in the first place". Sure, we could go for something like "if both CLONE_NEWNS *and* one of the things that might end up failing after copy_mnt_ns() call in create_new_namespaces() are set, force allocation of new fs_struct", but let's keep it simple - the cost of copy_fs_struct() is trivial. Another benefit is that copy_mnt_ns() with CLONE_NEWNS *always* gets a freshly allocated fs_struct, yet to be attached to anything. That seriously simplifies the analysis... FWIW, that bug had been there since the introduction of unshare(2) ;-/

sched/fair: Fix zero_vruntime tracking fix

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sched/fair: Fix zero_vruntime tracking fix John reported that stress-ng-yield could make his machine unhappy and managed to bisect it to commit b3d99f43c72b ("sched/fair: Fix zero_vruntime tracking"). The combination of yield and that commit was specific enough to hypothesize the following scenario: Suppose we have 2 runnable tasks, both doing yield. Then one will be eligible and one will not be, because the average position must be in between these two entities. Therefore, the runnable task will be eligible, and be promoted a full slice (all the tasks do is yield after all). This causes it to jump over the other task and now the other task is eligible and current is no longer. So we schedule. Since we are runnable, there is no {de,en}queue. All we have is the __{en,de}queue_entity() from {put_prev,set_next}_task(). But per the fingered commit, those two no longer move zero_vruntime. All that moves zero_vruntime are tick and full {de,en}queue. This means, that if the two tasks playing leapfrog can reach the critical speed to reach the overflow point inside one tick's worth of time, we're up a creek. Additionally, when multiple cgroups are involved, there is no guarantee the tick will in fact hit every cgroup in a timely manner. Statistically speaking it will, but that same statistics does not rule out the possibility of one cgroup not getting a tick for a significant amount of time -- however unlikely. Therefore, just like with the yield() case, force an update at the end of every slice. This ensures the update is never more than a single slice behind and the whole thing is within 2 lag bounds as per the comment on entity_key().

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipv6: mcast: use rcu-safe version of ipv6_get_lladdr() Some time ago 8965779d2c0e ("ipv6,mcast: always hold idev->lock before mca_lock") switched ipv6_get_lladdr() to __ipv6_get_lladdr(), which is rcu-unsafe version. That was OK, because idev->lock was held for these codepaths. In 88e2ca308094 ("mld: convert ifmcaddr6 to RCU") these external locks were removed, so we probably need to restore the original rcu-safe call. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: ctnetlink: ensure safe access to master conntrack Holding reference on the expectation is not sufficient, the master conntrack object can just go away, making exp->master invalid. To access exp->master safely: - Grab the nf_conntrack_expect_lock, this gets serialized with clean_from_lists() which also holds this lock when the master conntrack goes away. - Hold reference on master conntrack via nf_conntrack_find_get(). Not so easy since the master tuple to look up for the master conntrack is not available in the existing problematic paths. This patch goes for extending the nf_conntrack_expect_lock section to address this issue for simplicity, in the cases that are described below this is just slightly extending the lock section. The add expectation command already holds a reference to the master conntrack from ctnetlink_create_expect(). However, the delete expectation command needs to grab the spinlock before looking up for the expectation. Expand the existing spinlock section to address this to cover the expectation lookup. Note that, the nf_ct_expect_iterate_net() calls already grabs the spinlock while iterating over the expectation table, which is correct. The get expectation command needs to grab the spinlock to ensure master conntrack does not go away. This also expands the existing spinlock section to cover the expectation lookup too. I needed to move the netlink skb allocation out of the spinlock to keep it GFP_KERNEL. For the expectation events, the IPEXP_DESTROY event is already delivered under the spinlock, just move the delivery of IPEXP_NEW under the spinlock too because the master conntrack event cache is reached through exp->master. While at it, add lockdep notations to help identify what codepaths need to grab the spinlock.

The plain C accesses constitute a data race. Add READ_ONCE()/WRITE_ONCE() annotations on all concurrent accesses to hdev->req_status to prevent potential compiler optimizations that could affect correctness (e.g., load fusing in the wait_event condition or store reordering).

Functions like ipgre_header(), ip6gre_header(),all use netdev_priv(dev) to access their device-specific private data. When called with the bond device, netdev_priv() returns the bond's private data (struct bonding) instead of the expected type (e.g. struct ip_tunnel), leading to garbage values being read and kernel crashes. Fix this by introducing bond_header_ops with wrapper functions that delegate to the active slave's header_ops using the slave's own device. This ensures netdev_priv() in the slave's header functions always receives the correct device. The fix is placed in the bonding driver rather than individual device drivers, as the root cause is bond blindly inheriting header_ops from the slave without considering that these callbacks expect a specific netdev_priv() layout. Bluetooth: SCO: fix race conditions in sco_sock_connect()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: SCO: fix race conditions in sco_sock_connect() sco_sock_connect() checks sk_state and sk_type without holding the socket lock. Two concurrent connect() syscalls on the same socket can both pass the check and enter sco_connect(), leading to use-after-free. net/mlx5: Fix deadlock between devlink lock and esw->wq

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/mlx5: Fix deadlock between devlink lock and esw->wq esw->work_queue executes esw_functions_changed_event_handler -> esw_vfs_changed_event_handler and acquires the devlink lock. .eswitch_mode_set (acquires devlink lock in devlink_nl_pre_doit) -> mlx5_devlink_eswitch_mode_set -> mlx5_eswitch_disable_locked -> mlx5_eswitch_event_handler_unregister -> flush_workqueue deadlocks when esw_vfs_changed_event_handler executes. Fix that by no longer flushing the work to avoid the deadlock, and using a generation counter to keep track of work relevance. This avoids an old handler manipulating an esw that has undergone one or more mode changes: - the counter is incremented in mlx5_eswitch_event_handler_unregister. - the counter is read and passed to the ephemeral mlx5_host_work struct. - the work handler takes the devlink lock and bails out if the current generation is different than the one it was scheduled to operate on. - mlx5_eswitch_cleanup does the final draining before destroying the wq. No longer flushing the workqueue has the side effect of maybe no longer cancelling pending vport_change_handler work items, but that's ok since those are disabled elsewhere: - mlx5_eswitch_disable_locked disables the vport eq notifier. - mlx5_esw_vport_disable disarms the HW EQ notification and marks vport->enabled under state_lock to false to prevent pending vport handler from doing anything. - mlx5_eswitch_cleanup destroys the workqueue and makes sure all events are disabled/finished.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ring-buffer: Fix possible dereference of uninitialized pointer There is a pointer head_page in rb_meta_validate_events() which is not initialized at the beginning of a function. This pointer can be dereferenced if there is a failure during reader page validation. In this case the control is passed to "invalid" label where the pointer is dereferenced in a loop. To fix the issue initialize orig_head and head_page before calling rb_validate_buffer. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with SVACE.
