bnge: return after auxiliary_device_uninit() in error path

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bnge: return after auxiliary_device_uninit() in error path When auxiliary_device_add() fails, the error block calls auxiliary_device_uninit() but does not return. The uninit drops the last reference and synchronously runs bnge_aux_dev_release(), which sets bd->auxr_dev = NULL and frees the underlying object. The subsequent bd->auxr_dev->net = bd->netdev then dereferences NULL, which is not a good thing to have happen when trying to clean up from an error. Add the missing return, as the auxiliary bus documentation states is a requirement (seems that LLM tools read documentation better than humans do...)

vdpa/mlx5: Fix invalid mr resource destroy

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vdpa/mlx5: Fix invalid mr resource destroy Certain error paths from mlx5_vdpa_dev_add() can end up releasing mr resources which never got initialized in the first place. KVM: s390: fix validity interception issue when gisa is switched off

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: s390: fix validity interception issue when gisa is switched off We might run into a SIE validity if gisa has been disabled either via using kernel parameter "kvm.use_gisa=0" or by setting the related sysfs attribute to N (echo N >/sys/module/kvm/parameters/use_gisa). The validity is caused by an invalid value in the SIE control block's gisa designation. That happens because we pass the uninitialized gisa origin to virt_to_phys() before writing it to the gisa designation. To fix this we return 0 in kvm_s390_get_gisa_desc() if the origin is 0. kvm_s390_get_gisa_desc() is used to determine which gisa designation to set in the SIE control block. A value of 0 in the gisa designation disables gisa usage. The issue surfaces in the host kernel with the following kernel message as soon a new kvm guest start is attemted. kvm: unhandled validity intercept 0x1011 WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 781237 at arch/s390/kvm/intercept.c:101 kvm_handle_sie_intercept+0x42e/0x4d0 [kvm] Modules linked in: vhost_net tap tun xt_CHECKSUM xt_MASQUERADE xt_conntrack ipt_REJECT xt_tcpudp nft_compat x_tables nf_nat_tftp nf_conntrack_tftp vfio_pci_core irqbypass vhost_vsock vmw_vsock_virtio_transport_common vsock vhost vhost_iotlb kvm nft_fib_inet nft_fib_ipv4 nft_fib_ipv6 nft_fib nft_reject_inet nf_reject_ipv4 nf_reject_ipv6 nft_reject nft_ct nft_chain_nat nf_nat nf_conntrack nf_defrag_ipv6 nf_defrag_ipv4 ip_set nf_tables sunrpc mlx5_ib ib_uverbs ib_core mlx5_core uvdevice s390_trng eadm_sch vfio_ccw zcrypt_cex4 mdev vfio_iommu_type1 vfio sch_fq_codel drm i2c_core loop drm_panel_orientation_quirks configfs nfnetlink lcs ctcm fsm dm_service_time ghash_s390 prng chacha_s390 libchacha aes_s390 des_s390 libdes sha3_512_s390 sha3_256_s390 sha512_s390 sha256_s390 sha1_s390 sha_common dm_mirror dm_region_hash dm_log zfcp scsi_transport_fc scsi_dh_rdac scsi_dh_emc scsi_dh_alua pkey zcrypt dm_multipath rng_core autofs4 [last unloaded: vfio_pci] CPU: 0 PID: 781237 Comm: CPU 0/KVM Not tainted 6.10.0-08682-gcad9f11498ea #6 Hardware name: IBM 3931 A01 701 (LPAR) Krnl PSW : 0704c00180000000 000003d93deb0122 (kvm_handle_sie_intercept+0x432/0x4d0 [kvm]) R:0 T:1 IO:1 EX:1 Key:0 M:1 W:0 P:0 AS:3 CC:0 PM:0 RI:0 EA:3 Krnl GPRS: 000003d900000027 000003d900000023 0000000000000028 000002cd00000000 000002d063a00900 00000359c6daf708 00000000000bebb5 0000000000001eff 000002cfd82e9000 000002cfd80bc000 0000000000001011 000003d93deda412 000003ff8962df98 000003d93de77ce0 000003d93deb011e 00000359c6daf960 Krnl Code: 000003d93deb0112: c020fffe7259 larl %r2,000003d93de7e5c4 000003d93deb0118: c0e53fa8beac brasl %r14,000003d9bd3c7e70 #000003d93deb011e: af000000 mc 0,0 >000003d93deb0122: a728ffea lhi %r2,-22 000003d93deb0126: a7f4fe24 brc 15,000003d93deafd6e 000003d93deb012a: 9101f0b0 tm 176(%r15),1 000003d93deb012e: a774fe48 brc 7,000003d93deafdbe 000003d93deb0132: 40a0f0ae sth %r10,174(%r15) Call Trace: [<000003d93deb0122>] kvm_handle_sie_intercept+0x432/0x4d0 [kvm] ([<000003d93deb011e>] kvm_handle_sie_intercept+0x42e/0x4d0 [kvm]) [<000003d93deacc10>] vcpu_post_run+0x1d0/0x3b0 [kvm] [<000003d93deaceda>] __vcpu_run+0xea/0x2d0 [kvm] [<000003d93dead9da>] kvm_arch_vcpu_ioctl_run+0x16a/0x430 [kvm] [<000003d93de93ee0>] kvm_vcpu_ioctl+0x190/0x7c0 [kvm] [<000003d9bd728b4e>] vfs_ioctl+0x2e/0x70 [<000003d9bd72a092>] __s390x_sys_ioctl+0xc2/0xd0 [<000003d9be0e9222>] __do_syscall+0x1f2/0x2e0 [<000003d9be0f9a90>] system_call+0x70/0x98 Last Breaking-Event-Address: [<000003d9bd3c7f58>] __warn_printk+0xe8/0xf0

net: hns3: fix kernel crash when devlink reload during pf initialization

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: hns3: fix kernel crash when devlink reload during pf initialization The devlink reload process will access the hardware resources, but the register operation is done before the hardware is initialized. So, processing the devlink reload during initialization may lead to kernel crash. This patch fixes this by taking devl_lock during initialization.

net: use skb_header_pointer() for TCPv4 GSO frag_off check

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: use skb_header_pointer() for TCPv4 GSO frag_off check Syzbot reported a KMSAN uninit-value warning in gso_features_check() called from netif_skb_features() [1]. gso_features_check() reads iph->frag_off to decide whether to clear mangleid_features. Accessing the IPv4 header via ip_hdr()/inner_ip_hdr() can rely on skb header offsets that are not always safe for direct dereference on packets injected from PF_PACKET paths. Use skb_header_pointer() for the TCPv4 frag_off check so the header read is robust whether data is already linear or needs copying. [1] https://syzkaller.appspot.com/bug?extid=1543a7d954d9c6d00407

powerpc/fadump: Move fadump_cma_init to setup_arch() after initmem_init()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: powerpc/fadump: Move fadump_cma_init to setup_arch() after initmem_init() During early init CMA_MIN_ALIGNMENT_BYTES can be PAGE_SIZE, since pageblock_order is still zero and it gets initialized later during initmem_init() e.g. setup_arch() -> initmem_init() -> sparse_init() -> set_pageblock_order() One such use case where this causes issue is - early_setup() -> early_init_devtree() -> fadump_reserve_mem() -> fadump_cma_init() This causes CMA memory alignment check to be bypassed in cma_init_reserved_mem(). Then later cma_activate_area() can hit a VM_BUG_ON_PAGE(pfn & ((1 << order) - 1)) if the reserved memory area was not pageblock_order aligned. Fix it by moving the fadump_cma_init() after initmem_init(), where other such cma reservations also gets called. <stack trace> ============== page: refcount:0 mapcount:0 mapping:0000000000000000 index:0x0 pfn:0x10010 flags: 0x13ffff800000000(node=1|zone=0|lastcpupid=0x7ffff) CMA raw: 013ffff800000000 5deadbeef0000100 5deadbeef0000122 0000000000000000 raw: 0000000000000000 0000000000000000 00000000ffffffff 0000000000000000 page dumped because: VM_BUG_ON_PAGE(pfn & ((1 << order) - 1)) ------------[ cut here ]------------ kernel BUG at mm/page_alloc.c:778! net: sched: cls_api: fix tc_chain_fill_node to initialize tcm_info to zero to prevent an info-leak

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: sched: cls_api: fix tc_chain_fill_node to initialize tcm_info to zero to prevent an info-leak When building netlink messages, tc_chain_fill_node() never initializes the tcm_info field of struct tcmsg. Since the allocation is not zeroed, kernel heap memory is leaked to userspace through this 4-byte field. The fix simply zeroes tcm_info alongside the other fields that are already initialized.

ipvs: fix UB due to uninitialized stack access in ip_vs_protocol_init()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipvs: fix UB due to uninitialized stack access in ip_vs_protocol_init() Under certain kernel configurations when building with Clang/LLVM, the compiler does not generate a return or jump as the terminator instruction for ip_vs_protocol_init(), triggering the following objtool warning during build time: vmlinux.o: warning: objtool: ip_vs_protocol_init() falls through to next function __initstub__kmod_ip_vs_rr__935_123_ip_vs_rr_init6() At runtime, this either causes an oops when trying to load the ipvs module or a boot-time panic if ipvs is built-in. This same issue has been reported by the Intel kernel test robot previously. Digging deeper into both LLVM and the kernel code reveals this to be a undefined behavior problem. ip_vs_protocol_init() uses a on-stack buffer of 64 chars to store the registered protocol names and leaves it uninitialized after definition. The function calls strnlen() when concatenating protocol names into the buffer. With CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE strnlen() performs an extra step to check whether the last byte of the input char buffer is a null character (commit 3009f891bb9f ("fortify: Allow strlen() and strnlen() to pass compile-time known lengths")). This, together with possibly other configurations, cause the following IR to be generated: define hidden i32 @ip_vs_protocol_init() local_unnamed_addr #5 section ".init.text" align 16 !kcfi_type !29 { %1 = alloca [64 x i8], align 16 ... 14: ; preds = %11 %15 = getelementptr inbounds i8, ptr %1, i64 63 %16 = load i8, ptr %15, align 1 %17 = tail call i1 @llvm.is.constant.i8(i8 %16) %18 = icmp eq i8 %16, 0 %19 = select i1 %17, i1 %18, i1 false br i1 %19, label %20, label %23 20: ; preds = %14 %21 = call i64 @strlen(ptr noundef nonnull dereferenceable(1) %1) #23 ... 23: ; preds = %14, %11, %20 %24 = call i64 @strnlen(ptr noundef nonnull dereferenceable(1) %1, i64 noundef 64) #24 ... } The above code calculates the address of the last char in the buffer (value %15) and then loads from it (value %16). Because the buffer is never initialized, the LLVM GVN pass marks value %16 as undefined: %13 = getelementptr inbounds i8, ptr %1, i64 63 br i1 undef, label %14, label %17 This gives later passes (SCCP, in particular) more DCE opportunities by propagating the undef value further, and eventually removes everything after the load on the uninitialized stack location: define hidden i32 @ip_vs_protocol_init() local_unnamed_addr #0 section ".init.text" align 16 !kcfi_type !11 { %1 = alloca [64 x i8], align 16 ... 12: ; preds = %11 %13 = getelementptr inbounds i8, ptr %1, i64 63 unreachable } In this way, the generated native code will just fall through to the next function, as LLVM does not generate any code for the unreachable IR instruction and leaves the function without a terminator. Zero the on-stack buffer to avoid this possible UB.

RDMA/rxe: Fix error unwind in rxe_create_qp()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/rxe: Fix error unwind in rxe_create_qp() In the function rxe_create_qp(), rxe_qp_from_init() is called to initialize qp, internally things like the spin locks are not setup until rxe_qp_init_req(). If an error occures before this point then the unwind will call rxe_cleanup() and eventually to rxe_qp_do_cleanup()/rxe_cleanup_task() which will oops when trying to access the uninitialized spinlock. Move the spinlock initializations earlier before any failures.

iommu/vt-d: Clean up si_domain in the init_dmars() error path

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iommu/vt-d: Clean up si_domain in the init_dmars() error path A splat from kmem_cache_destroy() was seen with a kernel prior to commit ee2653bbe89d ("iommu/vt-d: Remove domain and devinfo mempool") when there was a failure in init_dmars(), because the iommu_domain cache still had objects. While the mempool code is now gone, there still is a leak of the si_domain memory if init_dmars() fails. So clean up si_domain in the init_dmars() error path.

clocksource: hyper-v: unexport __init-annotated hv_init_clocksource()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: clocksource: hyper-v: unexport __init-annotated hv_init_clocksource() EXPORT_SYMBOL and __init is a bad combination because the .init.text section is freed up after the initialization. Hence, modules cannot use symbols annotated __init. The access to a freed symbol may end up with kernel panic. modpost used to detect it, but it has been broken for a decade. Recently, I fixed modpost so it started to warn it again, then this showed up in linux-next builds. There are two ways to fix it: - Remove __init - Remove EXPORT_SYMBOL I chose the latter for this case because the only in-tree call-site, arch/x86/kernel/cpu/mshyperv.c is never compiled as modular. (CONFIG_HYPERVISOR_GUEST is boolean)

kcm: fix strp_init() order and cleanup

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: kcm: fix strp_init() order and cleanup strp_init() is called just a few lines above this csk->sk_user_data check, it also initializes strp->work etc., therefore, it is unnecessary to call strp_done() to cancel the freshly initialized work. And if sk_user_data is already used by KCM, psock->strp should not be touched, particularly strp->work state, so we need to move strp_init() after the csk->sk_user_data check. This also makes a lockdep warning reported by syzbot go away.

rtl818x: Prevent using not initialized queues

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: rtl818x: Prevent using not initialized queues Using not existing queues can panic the kernel with rtl8180/rtl8185 cards. Ignore the skb priority for those cards, they only have one tx queue. Pierre Asselin (pa@panix.com) reported the kernel crash in the Gentoo forum: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1147832-postdays-0-postorder-asc-start-25.html He also confirmed that this patch fixes the issue. In summary this happened: After updating wpa_supplicant from 2.9 to 2.10 the kernel crashed with a "divide error: 0000" when connecting to an AP. Control port tx now tries to use IEEE80211_AC_VO for the priority, which wpa_supplicants starts to use in 2.10. Since only the rtl8187se part of the driver supports QoS, the priority of the skb is set to IEEE80211_AC_BE (2) by mac80211 for rtl8180/rtl8185 cards. rtl8180 is then unconditionally reading out the priority and finally crashes on drivers/net/wireless/realtek/rtl818x/rtl8180/dev.c line 544 without this patch: idx = (ring->idx + skb_queue_len(&ring->queue)) % ring->entries "ring->entries" is zero for rtl8180/rtl8185 cards, tx_ring[2] never got initialized.

ice: Fix KASAN error in LAG NETDEV_UNREGISTER handler

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ice: Fix KASAN error in LAG NETDEV_UNREGISTER handler Currently, the same handler is called for both a NETDEV_BONDING_INFO LAG unlink notification as for a NETDEV_UNREGISTER call. This is causing a problem though, since the netdev_notifier_info passed has a different structure depending on which event is passed. The problem manifests as a call trace from a BUG: KASAN stack-out-of-bounds error. Fix this by creating a handler specific to NETDEV_UNREGISTER that only is passed valid elements in the netdev_notifier_info struct for the NETDEV_UNREGISTER event. Also included is the removal of an unbalanced dev_put on the peer_netdev and related braces.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/hfi1: Prevent use of lock before it is initialized If there is a failure during probe of hfi1 before the sdma_map_lock is initialized, the call to hfi1_free_devdata() will attempt to use a lock that has not been initialized. net: mdio: unexport __init-annotated mdio_bus_init()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: mdio: unexport __init-annotated mdio_bus_init() EXPORT_SYMBOL and __init is a bad combination because the .init.text section is freed up after the initialization. Hence, modules cannot use symbols annotated __init. The access to a freed symbol may end up with kernel panic. modpost used to detect it, but it has been broken for a decade. Recently, I fixed modpost so it started to warn it again, then this showed up in linux-next builds. There are two ways to fix it: - Remove __init - Remove EXPORT_SYMBOL I chose the latter for this case because the only in-tree call-site, drivers/net/phy/phy_device.c is never compiled as modular. (CONFIG_PHYLIB is boolean)

Bluetooth: btmtksdio: Fix kernel oops in btmtksdio_interrupt

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: btmtksdio: Fix kernel oops in btmtksdio_interrupt Fix the following kernel oops in btmtksdio_interrrupt [ 14.339134] btmtksdio_interrupt+0x28/0x54 [ 14.339139] process_sdio_pending_irqs+0x68/0x1a0 [ 14.339144] sdio_irq_work+0x40/0x70 [ 14.339154] process_one_work+0x184/0x39c [ 14.339160] worker_thread+0x228/0x3e8 [ 14.339168] kthread+0x148/0x3ac [ 14.339176] ret_from_fork+0x10/0x30 That happened because hdev->power_on is already called before sdio_set_drvdata which btmtksdio_interrupt handler relies on is not properly set up. The details are shown as the below: hci_register_dev would run queue_work(hdev->req_workqueue, &hdev->power_on) as WQ_HIGHPRI workqueue_struct to complete the power-on sequeunce and thus hci_power_on may run before sdio_set_drvdata is done in btmtksdio_probe. The hci_dev_do_open in hci_power_on would initialize the device and enable the interrupt and thus it is possible that btmtksdio_interrupt is being called right before sdio_set_drvdata is filled out. When btmtksdio_interrupt is being called and sdio_set_drvdata is not filled , the kernel oops is going to happen because btmtksdio_interrupt access an uninitialized pointer.

drm/amdgpu: Fix error handling in slot reset

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amdgpu: Fix error handling in slot reset If the device has not recovered after slot reset is called, it goes to out label for error handling. There it could make decision based on uninitialized hive pointer and could result in accessing an uninitialized list. Initialize the list and hive properly so that it handles the error situation and also releases the reset domain lock which is acquired during error_detected callback. leds: mlxreg: Use devm_mutex_init() for mutex initialization

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: leds: mlxreg: Use devm_mutex_init() for mutex initialization In this driver LEDs are registered using devm_led_classdev_register() so they are automatically unregistered after module's remove() is done. led_classdev_unregister() calls module's led_set_brightness() to turn off the LEDs and that callback uses mutex which was destroyed already in module's remove() so use devm API instead.

leds: an30259a: Use devm_mutex_init() for mutex initialization

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: leds: an30259a: Use devm_mutex_init() for mutex initialization In this driver LEDs are registered using devm_led_classdev_register() so they are automatically unregistered after module's remove() is done. led_classdev_unregister() calls module's led_set_brightness() to turn off the LEDs and that callback uses mutex which was destroyed already in module's remove() so use devm API instead.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/nouveau: don't attempt to schedule hpd_work on headless cards If the card doesn't have display hardware, hpd_work and hpd_lock are left uninitialized which causes BUG when attempting to schedule hpd_work on runtime PM resume. mptcp: ensure snd_una is properly initialized on connect

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mptcp: ensure snd_una is properly initialized on connect This is strictly related to commit fb7a0d334894 ("mptcp: ensure snd_nxt is properly initialized on connect"). It turns out that syzkaller can trigger the retransmit after fallback and before processing any other incoming packet - so that snd_una is still left uninitialized. Address the issue explicitly initializing snd_una together with snd_nxt and write_seq.

block: zero non-PI portion of auto integrity buffer

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: block: zero non-PI portion of auto integrity buffer The auto-generated integrity buffer for writes needs to be fully initialized before being passed to the underlying block device, otherwise the uninitialized memory can be read back by userspace or anyone with physical access to the storage device. If protection information is generated, that portion of the integrity buffer is already initialized. The integrity data is also zeroed if PI generation is disabled via sysfs or the PI tuple size is 0. However, this misses the case where PI is generated and the PI tuple size is nonzero, but the metadata size is larger than the PI tuple. In this case, the remainder ("opaque") of the metadata is left uninitialized. Generalize the BLK_INTEGRITY_CSUM_NONE check to cover any case when the metadata is larger than just the PI tuple.

ptp: ocp: Limit signal/freq counts in summary output functions

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ptp: ocp: Limit signal/freq counts in summary output functions The debugfs summary output could access uninitialized elements in the freq_in[] and signal_out[] arrays, causing NULL pointer dereferences and triggering a kernel Oops (page_fault_oops). This patch adds u8 fields (nr_freq_in, nr_signal_out) to track the number of initialized elements, with a maximum of 4 per array. The summary output functions are updated to respect these limits, preventing out-of-bounds access and ensuring safe array handling. Widen the label variables because the change confuses GCC about max length of the strings.

sched_ext: bpf_iter_scx_dsq_new() should always initialize iterator

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sched_ext: bpf_iter_scx_dsq_new() should always initialize iterator BPF programs may call next() and destroy() on BPF iterators even after new() returns an error value (e.g. bpf_for_each() macro ignores error returns from new()). bpf_iter_scx_dsq_new() could leave the iterator in an uninitialized state after an error return causing bpf_iter_scx_dsq_next() to dereference garbage data. Make bpf_iter_scx_dsq_new() always clear $kit->dsq so that next() and destroy() become noops.

BTRFS: error (device vdc: state EA) in cleanup_transaction:2055: errno=-2 No such entry This happens because create_pending_snapshot() initializes the new root item as a copy of the source root item. This includes the refs field, which is 0 for a deleted subvolume. The call to btrfs_insert_root() therefore inserts a root with refs == 0. btrfs_get_new_fs_root() then finds the root and returns -ENOENT if refs == 0, which causes create_pending_snapshot() to abort. Fix it by checking the source root's refs before attempting the snapshot, but after locking subvol_sem to avoid racing with deletion.

ipvs: fix uninit-value for saddr in do_output_route4

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipvs: fix uninit-value for saddr in do_output_route4 syzbot reports for uninit-value for the saddr argument [1]. commit 4754957f04f5 ("ipvs: do not use random local source address for tunnels") already implies that the input value of saddr should be ignored but the code is still reading it which can prevent to connect the route. Fix it by changing the argument to ret_saddr. vdpa/mlx5: Fix release of uninitialized resources on error path

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vdpa/mlx5: Fix release of uninitialized resources on error path The commit in the fixes tag made sure that mlx5_vdpa_free() is the single entrypoint for removing the vdpa device resources added in mlx5_vdpa_dev_add(), even in the cleanup path of mlx5_vdpa_dev_add(). This means that all functions from mlx5_vdpa_free() should be able to handle uninitialized resources. This was not the case though: mlx5_vdpa_destroy_mr_resources() and mlx5_cmd_cleanup_async_ctx() were not able to do so. This caused the splat below when adding a vdpa device without a MAC address. This patch fixes these remaining issues: - Makes mlx5_vdpa_destroy_mr_resources() return early if called on uninitialized resources. - Moves mlx5_cmd_init_async_ctx() early on during device addition because it can't fail. This means that mlx5_cmd_cleanup_async_ctx() also can't fail. To mirror this, move the call site of mlx5_cmd_cleanup_async_ctx() in mlx5_vdpa_free(). An additional comment was added in mlx5_vdpa_free() to document the expectations of functions called from this context.
