In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: rtw89: remove unused C2H event ID RTW89_MAC_C2H_FUNC_READ_WOW_CAM to prevent out-of-bounds reading The handler of firmware C2H event RTW89_MAC_C2H_FUNC_READ_WOW_CAM isn't implemented, but driver expects number of handlers is NUM_OF_RTW89_MAC_C2H_FUNC_WOW causing out-of-bounds access. Fix it by removing ID. Addresses-Coverity-ID: 1598775 ("Out-of-bounds read")

wifi: mwifiex: Initialize the chan_stats array to zero

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: mwifiex: Initialize the chan_stats array to zero The adapter->chan_stats[] array is initialized in mwifiex_init_channel_scan_gap() with vmalloc(), which doesn't zero out memory. The array is filled in mwifiex_update_chan_statistics() and then the user can query the data in mwifiex_cfg80211_dump_survey(). There are two potential issues here. What if the user calls mwifiex_cfg80211_dump_survey() before the data has been filled in. Also the mwifiex_update_chan_statistics() function doesn't necessarily initialize the whole array. Since the array was not initialized at the start that could result in an information leak. Also this array is pretty small. It's a maximum of 900 bytes so it's more appropriate to use kcalloc() instead vmalloc().

ALSA: caiaq: fix stack out-of-bounds read in init_card

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: caiaq: fix stack out-of-bounds read in init_card The loop creates a whitespace-stripped copy of the card shortname where `len < sizeof(card->id)` is used for the bounds check. Since sizeof(card->id) is 16 and the local id buffer is also 16 bytes, writing 16 non-space characters fills the entire buffer, overwriting the terminating nullbyte. When this non-null-terminated string is later passed to snd_card_set_id() -> copy_valid_id_string(), the function scans forward with `while (*nid && ...)` and reads past the end of the stack buffer, reading the contents of the stack. A USB device with a product name containing many non-ASCII, non-space characters (e.g. multibyte UTF-8) will reliably trigger this as follows: BUG: KASAN: stack-out-of-bounds in copy_valid_id_string sound/core/init.c:696 [inline] BUG: KASAN: stack-out-of-bounds in snd_card_set_id_no_lock+0x698/0x74c sound/core/init.c:718 The off-by-one has been present since commit bafeee5b1f8d ("ALSA: snd_usb_caiaq: give better shortname") from June 2009 (v2.6.31-rc1), which first introduced this whitespace-stripping loop. The original code never accounted for the null terminator when bounding the copy. Fix this by changing the loop bound to `sizeof(card->id) - 1`, ensuring at least one byte remains as the null terminator.

i40e: remove read access to debugfs files

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: i40e: remove read access to debugfs files The 'command' and 'netdev_ops' debugfs files are a legacy debugging interface supported by the i40e driver since its early days by commit 02e9c290814c ("i40e: debugfs interface"). Both of these debugfs files provide a read handler which is mostly useless, and which is implemented with questionable logic. They both use a static 256 byte buffer which is initialized to the empty string. In the case of the 'command' file this buffer is literally never used and simply wastes space. In the case of the 'netdev_ops' file, the last command written is saved here. On read, the files contents are presented as the name of the device followed by a colon and then the contents of their respective static buffer. For 'command' this will always be "<device>: ". For 'netdev_ops', this will be "<device>: <last command written>". But note the buffer is shared between all devices operated by this module. At best, it is mostly meaningless information, and at worse it could be accessed simultaneously as there doesn't appear to be any locking mechanism. We have also recently received multiple reports for both read functions about their use of snprintf and potential overflow that could result in reading arbitrary kernel memory. For the 'command' file, this is definitely impossible, since the static buffer is always zero and never written to. For the 'netdev_ops' file, it does appear to be possible, if the user carefully crafts the command input, it will be copied into the buffer, which could be large enough to cause snprintf to truncate, which then causes the copy_to_user to read beyond the length of the buffer allocated by kzalloc. A minimal fix would be to replace snprintf() with scnprintf() which would cap the return to the number of bytes written, preventing an overflow. A more involved fix would be to drop the mostly useless static buffers, saving 512 bytes and modifying the read functions to stop needing those as input. Instead, lets just completely drop the read access to these files. These are debug interfaces exposed as part of debugfs, and I don't believe that dropping read access will break any script, as the provided output is pretty useless. You can find the netdev name through other more standard interfaces, and the 'netdev_ops' interface can easily result in garbage if you issue simultaneous writes to multiple devices at once. In order to properly remove the i40e_dbg_netdev_ops_buf, we need to refactor its write function to avoid using the static buffer. Instead, use the same logic as the i40e_dbg_command_write, with an allocated buffer. Update the code to use this instead of the static buffer, and ensure we free the buffer on exit. This fixes simultaneous writes to 'netdev_ops' on multiple devices, and allows us to remove the now unused static buffer along with removing the read access.

wifi: brcmfmac: Fix potential shift-out-of-bounds in brcmf_fw_alloc_request()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: brcmfmac: Fix potential shift-out-of-bounds in brcmf_fw_alloc_request() This patch fixes a shift-out-of-bounds in brcmfmac that occurs in BIT(chiprev) when a 'chiprev' provided by the device is too large. It should also not be equal to or greater than BITS_PER_TYPE(u32) as we do bitwise AND with a u32 variable and BIT(chiprev). The patch adds a check that makes the function return NULL if that is the case. Note that the NULL case is later handled by the bus-specific caller, brcmf_usb_probe_cb() or brcmf_usb_reset_resume(), for example. Found by a modified version of syzkaller. hwmon: (gpio-fan) Fix array out of bounds access

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: hwmon: (gpio-fan) Fix array out of bounds access The driver does not check if the cooling state passed to gpio_fan_set_cur_state() exceeds the maximum cooling state as stored in fan_data->num_speeds. Since the cooling state is later used as an array index in set_fan_speed(), an array out of bounds access can occur. This can be exploited by setting the state of the thermal cooling device to arbitrary values, causing for example a kernel oops when unavailable memory is accessed this way. Once, directly, in setup_arch() if CONFIG_BUILTIN_DTB is not enabled and once indirectly, very early in the boot process, by parse_dtb() when it calls early_init_dt_scan_nodes(). This first call uses dtb_early_va to set initial_boot_params, which is not usable later in the boot process when early_init_fdt_scan_reserved_mem() is called. On arm64 for example, the corresponding call to early_init_dt_scan_nodes() uses fixmap addresses and doesn't suffer the same fate. Move early_init_fdt_scan_reserved_mem() further along the boot sequence, after the direct call to early_init_dt_verify() in setup_arch() so that the names use the correct virtual memory addresses. The above supposed that CONFIG_BUILTIN_DTB was not set, but should work equally in the case where it is - unflatted_and_copy_device_tree() also updates initial_boot_params.

As the register is known const scalar, really just use the concrete reg->var_off.value for the upper index check.

bpf: Propagate error from htab_lock_bucket() to userspace

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Propagate error from htab_lock_bucket() to userspace In __htab_map_lookup_and_delete_batch() if htab_lock_bucket() returns -EBUSY, it will go to next bucket. Going to next bucket may not only skip the elements in current bucket silently, but also incur out-of-bound memory access or expose kernel memory to userspace if current bucket_cnt is greater than bucket_size or zero. Fixing it by stopping batch operation and returning -EBUSY when htab_lock_bucket() fails, and the application can retry or skip the busy batch as needed.

cpufreq: qcom: fix writes in read-only memory region

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cpufreq: qcom: fix writes in read-only memory region This commit fixes a kernel oops because of a write in some read-only memory: [ 9.068287] Unable to handle kernel write to read-only memory at virtual address ffff800009240ad8 ..snip.. [ 9.138790] Internal error: Oops: 9600004f [#1] PREEMPT SMP ..snip.. [ 9.269161] Call trace: [ 9.276271] __memcpy+0x5c/0x230 [ 9.278531] snprintf+0x58/0x80 [ 9.282002] qcom_cpufreq_msm8939_name_version+0xb4/0x190 [ 9.284869] qcom_cpufreq_probe+0xc8/0x39c ..snip.. The following line defines a pointer that point to a char buffer stored in read-only memory: char *pvs_name = "speedXX-pvsXX-vXX"; This pointer is meant to hold a template "speedXX-pvsXX-vXX" where the XX values get overridden by the qcom_cpufreq_krait_name_version function. Since the template is actually stored in read-only memory, when the function executes the following call we get an oops: snprintf(*pvs_name, sizeof("speedXX-pvsXX-vXX"), "speed%d-pvs%d-v%d", speed, pvs, pvs_ver); To fix this issue, we instead store the template name onto the stack by using the following syntax: char pvs_name_buffer[] = "speedXX-pvsXX-vXX"; Because the `pvs_name` needs to be able to be assigned to NULL, the template buffer is stored in the pvs_name_buffer and not under the pvs_name variable.

drm/fb-helper: Fix out-of-bounds access

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/fb-helper: Fix out-of-bounds access Clip memory range to screen-buffer size to avoid out-of-bounds access in fbdev deferred I/O's damage handling. Fbdev's deferred I/O can only track pages. From the range of pages, the damage handler computes the clipping rectangle for the display update. If the fbdev screen buffer ends near the beginning of a page, that page could contain more scanlines. The damage handler would then track these non-existing scanlines as dirty and provoke an out-of-bounds access during the screen update. Hence, clip the maximum memory range to the size of the screen buffer. While at it, rename the variables min/max to min_off/max_off in drm_fb_helper_deferred_io(). This avoids confusion with the macros of the same name.

sched, cpuset: Fix dl_cpu_busy() panic due to empty cs->cpus_allowed

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sched, cpuset: Fix dl_cpu_busy() panic due to empty cs->cpus_allowed With cgroup v2, the cpuset's cpus_allowed mask can be empty indicating that the cpuset will just use the effective CPUs of its parent. So cpuset_can_attach() can call task_can_attach() with an empty mask. This can lead to cpumask_any_and() returns nr_cpu_ids causing the call to dl_bw_of() to crash due to percpu value access of an out of bound CPU value. For example: [80468.182258] BUG: unable to handle page fault for address: ffffffff8b6648b0 : [80468.191019] RIP: 0010:dl_cpu_busy+0x30/0x2b0 : [80468.207946] Call Trace: [80468.208947] cpuset_can_attach+0xa0/0x140 [80468.209953] cgroup_migrate_execute+0x8c/0x490 [80468.210931] cgroup_update_dfl_csses+0x254/0x270 [80468.211898] cgroup_subtree_control_write+0x322/0x400 [80468.212854] kernfs_fop_write_iter+0x11c/0x1b0 [80468.213777] new_sync_write+0x11f/0x1b0 [80468.214689] vfs_write+0x1eb/0x280 [80468.215592] ksys_write+0x5f/0xe0 [80468.216463] do_syscall_64+0x5c/0x80 [80468.224287] entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x44/0xae Fix that by using effective_cpus instead. For cgroup v1, effective_cpus is the same as cpus_allowed. For v2, effective_cpus is the real cpumask to be used by tasks within the cpuset anyway. Also update task_can_attach()'s 2nd argument name to cs_effective_cpus to reflect the change. In addition, a check is added to task_can_attach() to guard against the possibility that cpumask_any_and() may return a value >= nr_cpu_ids.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: x86: smm: number of GPRs in the SMRAM image depends on the image format On 64 bit host, if the guest doesn't have X86_FEATURE_LM, KVM will access 16 gprs to 32-bit smram image, causing out-ouf-bound ram access. On 32 bit host, the rsm_load_state_64/enter_smm_save_state_64 is compiled out, thus access overflow can't happen.

uaccess: fix integer overflow on access_ok()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: uaccess: fix integer overflow on access_ok() Three architectures check the end of a user access against the address limit without taking a possible overflow into account. Passing a negative length or another overflow in here returns success when it should not. Use the most common correct implementation here, which optimizes for a constant 'size' argument, and turns the common case into a single comparison.

dm raid: fix accesses beyond end of raid member array

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: dm raid: fix accesses beyond end of raid member array On dm-raid table load (using raid_ctr), dm-raid allocates an array rs->devs[rs->raid_disks] for the raid device members. rs->raid_disks is defined by the number of raid metadata and image tupples passed into the target's constructor. In the case of RAID layout changes being requested, that number can be different from the current number of members for existing raid sets as defined in their superblocks. Example RAID layout changes include: - raid1 legs being added/removed - raid4/5/6/10 number of stripes changed (stripe reshaping) - takeover to higher raid level (e.g. raid5 -> raid6) When accessing array members, rs->raid_disks must be used in control loops instead of the potentially larger value in rs->md.raid_disks. Otherwise it will cause memory access beyond the end of the rs->devs array. Fix this by changing code that is prone to out-of-bounds access. Also fix validate_raid_redundancy() to validate all devices that are added. Also, use braces to help clean up raid_iterate_devices(). The out-of-bounds memory accesses was discovered using KASAN. This commit was verified to pass all LVM2 RAID tests (with KASAN enabled).

ASoC: SOF: ipc3-topology: Correct get_control_data for non bytes payload

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ASoC: SOF: ipc3-topology: Correct get_control_data for non bytes payload It is possible to craft a topology where sof_get_control_data() would do out of bounds access because it expects that it is only called when the payload is bytes type. Confusingly it also handles other types of controls, but the payload parsing implementation is only valid for bytes. Fix the code to count the non bytes controls and instead of storing a pointer to sof_abi_hdr in sof_widget_data (which is only valid for bytes), store the pointer to the data itself and add a new member to save the size of the data. In case of non bytes controls we store the pointer to the chanv itself, which is just an array of values at the end. In case of bytes control, drop the wrong cdata->data (wdata[i].pdata) check against NULL since it is incorrect and invalid in this context. The data is pointing to the end of cdata struct, so it should never be null.

This happens because virtnet_freeze() frees the receive_queue completely (including struct xdp_rxq_info) but does not call xdp_rxq_info_unreg(). Similarly, virtnet_restore() sets up the receive_queue again but does not call xdp_rxq_info_reg(). Actually, parts of virtnet_freeze_down() and virtnet_restore_up() are almost identical to virtnet_close() and virtnet_open(): only the calls to xdp_rxq_info_(un)reg() are missing. This means that we can fix this easily and avoid such problems in the future by just calling virtnet_close()/open() from the freeze/restore handlers. Aside from adding the missing xdp_rxq_info calls the only difference is that the refill work is only cancelled if netif_running(). However, this should not make any functional difference since the refill work should only be active if the network interface is actually up.

wifi: brcmfmac: Check the count value of channel spec to prevent out-of-bounds reads

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: brcmfmac: Check the count value of channel spec to prevent out-of-bounds reads This patch fixes slab-out-of-bounds reads in brcmfmac that occur in brcmf_construct_chaninfo() and brcmf_enable_bw40_2g() when the count value of channel specifications provided by the device is greater than the length of 'list->element[]', decided by the size of the 'list' allocated with kzalloc(). The patch adds checks that make the functions free the buffer and return -EINVAL if that is the case. software node: Correct a OOB check in software_node_get_reference_args()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: software node: Correct a OOB check in software_node_get_reference_args() software_node_get_reference_args() wants to get @index-th element, so the property value requires at least '(index + 1) * sizeof(*ref)' bytes but that can not be guaranteed by current OOB check, and may cause OOB for malformed property. Fix by using as OOB check '((index + 1) * sizeof(*ref) > prop->length)'.

tracing: Fix wild-memory-access in register_synth_event()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tracing: Fix wild-memory-access in register_synth_event() In register_synth_event(), if set_synth_event_print_fmt() failed, then both trace_remove_event_call() and unregister_trace_event() will be called, which means the trace_event_call will call __unregister_trace_event() twice. As the result, the second unregister will causes the wild-memory-access. register_synth_event set_synth_event_print_fmt failed trace_remove_event_call event_remove if call->event.funcs then __unregister_trace_event (first call) unregister_trace_event __unregister_trace_event (second call) Fix the bug by avoiding to call the second __unregister_trace_event() by checking if the first one is called. general protection fault, probably for non-canonical address 0xfbd59c0000000024: 0000 [#1] SMP KASAN PTI KASAN: maybe wild-memory-access in range [0xdead000000000120-0xdead000000000127] CPU: 0 PID: 3807 Comm: modprobe Not tainted 6.1.0-rc1-00186-g76f33a7eedb4 #299 Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996), BIOS rel-1.15.0-0-g2dd4b9b3f840-prebuilt.qemu.org 04/01/2014 RIP: 0010:unregister_trace_event+0x6e/0x280 Code: 00 fc ff df 4c 89 ea 48 c1 ea 03 80 3c 02 00 0f 85 0e 02 00 00 48 b8 00 00 00 00 00 fc ff df 4c 8b 63 08 4c 89 e2 48 c1 ea 03 <80> 3c 02 00 0f 85 e2 01 00 00 49 89 2c 24 48 85 ed 74 28 e8 7a 9b RSP: 0018:ffff88810413f370 EFLAGS: 00010a06 RAX: dffffc0000000000 RBX: ffff888105d050b0 RCX: 0000000000000000 RDX: 1bd5a00000000024 RSI: ffff888119e276e0 RDI: ffffffff835a8b20 RBP: dead000000000100 R08: 0000000000000000 R09: fffffbfff0913481 R10: ffffffff8489a407 R11: fffffbfff0913480 R12: dead000000000122 R13: ffff888105d050b8 R14: 0000000000000000 R15: ffff888105d05028 FS: 00007f7823e8d540(0000) GS:ffff888119e00000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 CS: 0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 0000000080050033 CR2: 00007f7823e7ebec CR3: 000000010a058002 CR4: 0000000000330ef0 DR0: 0000000000000000 DR1: 0000000000000000 DR2: 0000000000000000 DR3: 0000000000000000 DR6: 00000000fffe0ff0 DR7: 0000000000000400 Call Trace: <TASK> __create_synth_event+0x1e37/0x1eb0 create_or_delete_synth_event+0x110/0x250 synth_event_run_command+0x2f/0x110 test_gen_synth_cmd+0x170/0x2eb [synth_event_gen_test] synth_event_gen_test_init+0x76/0x9bc [synth_event_gen_test] do_one_initcall+0xdb/0x480 do_init_module+0x1cf/0x680 load_module+0x6a50/0x70a0 __do_sys_finit_module+0x12f/0x1c0 do_syscall_64+0x3f/0x90 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x63/0xcd

net: dsa: Avoid cross-chip syncing of VLAN filtering

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: dsa: Avoid cross-chip syncing of VLAN filtering Changes to VLAN filtering are not applicable to cross-chip notifications. On a system like this: .-----. .-----. .-----. | sw1 +---+ sw2 +---+ sw3 | '-1-2-' '-1-2-' '-1-2-' Before this change, upon sw1p1 leaving a bridge, a call to dsa_port_vlan_filtering would also be made to sw2p1 and sw3p1. In this scenario: .---------. .-----. .-----. | sw1 +---+ sw2 +---+ sw3 | '-1-2-3-4-' '-1-2-' '-1-2-' When sw1p4 would leave a bridge, dsa_port_vlan_filtering would be called for sw2 and sw3 with a non-existing port - leading to array out-of-bounds accesses and crashes on mv88e6xxx.

tty: serial: qcom-geni-serial: fix slab-out-of-bounds on RX FIFO buffer

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tty: serial: qcom-geni-serial: fix slab-out-of-bounds on RX FIFO buffer Driver's probe allocates memory for RX FIFO (port->rx_fifo) based on default RX FIFO depth, e.g. 16. Later during serial startup the qcom_geni_serial_port_setup() updates the RX FIFO depth (port->rx_fifo_depth) to match real device capabilities, e.g. to 32. The RX UART handle code will read "port->rx_fifo_depth" number of words into "port->rx_fifo" buffer, thus exceeding the bounds. This can be observed in certain configurations with Qualcomm Bluetooth HCI UART device and KASAN: Bluetooth: hci0: QCA Product ID :0x00000010 Bluetooth: hci0: QCA SOC Version :0x400a0200 Bluetooth: hci0: QCA ROM Version :0x00000200 Bluetooth: hci0: QCA Patch Version:0x00000d2b Bluetooth: hci0: QCA controller version 0x02000200 Bluetooth: hci0: QCA Downloading qca/htbtfw20.tlv bluetooth hci0: Direct firmware load for qca/htbtfw20.tlv failed with error -2 Bluetooth: hci0: QCA Failed to request file: qca/htbtfw20.tlv (-2) Bluetooth: hci0: QCA Failed to download patch (-2) ================================================================== BUG: KASAN: slab-out-of-bounds in handle_rx_uart+0xa8/0x18c Write of size 4 at addr ffff279347d578c0 by task swapper/0/0 CPU: 0 PID: 0 Comm: swapper/0 Not tainted 6.1.0-rt5-00350-gb2450b7e00be-dirty #26 Hardware name: Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
