mmc: sdio: fix possible resource leaks in some error paths

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mmc: sdio: fix possible resource leaks in some error paths If sdio_add_func() or sdio_init_func() fails, sdio_remove_func() can not release the resources, because the sdio function is not presented in these two cases, it won't call of_node_put() or put_device(). To fix these leaks, make sdio_func_present() only control whether device_del() needs to be called or not, then always call of_node_put() and put_device(). In error case in sdio_init_func(), the reference of 'card->dev' is not get, to avoid redundant put in sdio_free_func_cis(), move the get_device() to sdio_alloc_func() and put_device() to sdio_release_func(), it can keep the get/put function be balanced. Without this patch, while doing fault inject test, it can get the following leak reports, after this fix, the leak is gone. unreferenced object 0xffff888112514000 (size 2048): comm "kworker/3:2", pid 65, jiffies 4294741614 (age 124.774s) hex dump (first 32 bytes): 00 e0 6f 12 81 88 ff ff 60 58 8d 06 81 88 ff ff ..o.....`X...... 10 40 51 12 81 88 ff ff 10 40 51 12 81 88 ff ff .@Q......@Q..... backtrace: [<000000009e5931da>] kmalloc_trace+0x21/0x110 [<000000002f839ccb>] mmc_alloc_card+0x38/0xb0 [mmc_core] [<0000000004adcbf6>] mmc_sdio_init_card+0xde/0x170 [mmc_core] [<000000007538fea0>] mmc_attach_sdio+0xcb/0x1b0 [mmc_core] [<00000000d4fdeba7>] mmc_rescan+0x54a/0x640 [mmc_core] unreferenced object 0xffff888112511000 (size 2048): comm "kworker/3:2", pid 65, jiffies 4294741623 (age 124.766s) hex dump (first 32 bytes): 00 40 51 12 81 88 ff ff e0 58 8d 06 81 88 ff ff .@Q......X...... 10 10 51 12 81 88 ff ff 10 10 51 12 81 88 ff ff ..Q.......Q..... backtrace: [<000000009e5931da>] kmalloc_trace+0x21/0x110 [<00000000fcbe706c>] sdio_alloc_func+0x35/0x100 [mmc_core] [<00000000c68f4b50>] mmc_attach_sdio.cold.18+0xb1/0x395 [mmc_core] [<00000000d4fdeba7>] mmc_rescan+0x54a/0x640 [mmc_core]

tap: fix stack info leak in tap_ioctl() SIOCGIFHWADDR

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tap: fix stack info leak in tap_ioctl() SIOCGIFHWADDR In the SIOCGIFHWADDR path, tap_ioctl() copies 16 bytes of an uninitialised on-stack struct sockaddr_storage to userspace via ifr_hwaddr, but netif_get_mac_address() only writes sa_family and dev->addr_len (6 for Ethernet) bytes, leaving sa_data[6..13] uninitialised. Those 8 trailing bytes leak kernel stack contents; SIOCGIFHWADDR on a macvtap chardev returns kernel .text and direct-map pointers, defeating KASLR. Initialise ss at declaration.

netfilter: nft_fib: fix stale stack leak via the OIFNAME register

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: nft_fib: fix stale stack leak via the OIFNAME register For NFT_FIB_RESULT_OIFNAME the destination register is declared with len = IFNAMSIZ (four 32-bit registers), but on the lookup-fail, RTN_LOCAL and oif-mismatch paths nft_fib{4,6}_eval() only writes one register via "*dest = 0". The remaining three registers are left as whatever was on the stack in nft_do_chain()'s struct nft_regs, and a downstream expression that loads the register span can leak that uninitialised kernel stack to userspace. The NFTA_FIB_F_PRESENT existence check has the same shape: it is only meaningful for NFT_FIB_RESULT_OIF, yet it was accepted for any result type while the eval stores a single byte via nft_reg_store8(), leaving the rest of the declared span stale. Fix both: - replace the bare "*dest = 0" in the eval with nft_fib_store_result(), which strscpy_pad()s the whole IFNAMSIZ for OIFNAME (and is already used on the other early-return path), and - restrict NFTA_FIB_F_PRESENT to NFT_FIB_RESULT_OIF and declare its destination as a single u8, so the marked span matches the one byte the eval writes.

net: ethernet: ti: am65-cpsw-nuss: Fix skb size by accounting for skb_shared_info

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: ethernet: ti: am65-cpsw-nuss: Fix skb size by accounting for skb_shared_info While transitioning from netdev_alloc_ip_align() to build_skb(), memory for the "skb_shared_info" member of an "skb" was not allocated. net: openvswitch: fix possible kfree_skb of ERR_PTR

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: openvswitch: fix possible kfree_skb of ERR_PTR After the patch in the "Fixes" tag, the allocation of the "reply" skb can happen either before or after locking the ovs_mutex. However, error cleanups still follow the classical reversed order, assuming "reply" is allocated before locking: it is freed after unlocking. If "reply" allocation happens after locking the mutex and it fails, "reply" is left with an ERR_PTR, and execution jumps to the correspondent cleanup stage which will try to free an invalid pointer. Fix this by setting the pointer to NULL after having saved its error value.

netfilter: nft_meta_bridge: fix stale stack leak via IIFHWADDR register

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: nft_meta_bridge: fix stale stack leak via IIFHWADDR register NFT_META_BRI_IIFHWADDR declares its destination register with len = ETH_ALEN (6 bytes), which the register-init tracking rounds up to two 32-bit registers (8 bytes). nft_meta_bridge_get_eval() then does memcpy(dest, br_dev->dev_addr, ETH_ALEN), writing only 6 bytes and leaving the upper 2 bytes of the second register as uninitialised nft_do_chain() stack. A downstream load of that register span leaks those stale bytes to userspace. Zero the second register before the memcpy so the full declared span is written.

dm cache metadata: fix memory leak on metadata abort retry

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: dm cache metadata: fix memory leak on metadata abort retry When failing to acquire the root_lock in dm_cache_metadata_abort because the block_manager is read-only, the temporary block_manager created outside the root_lock is not properly released, causing a memory leak. Reproduce steps: This can be reproduced by reloading a new table while the metadata is read-only. While the second call to dm_cache_metadata_abort is caused by lack of support for table preload in dm-cache, mentioned in commit 9b1cc9f251af ("dm cache: share cache-metadata object across inactive and active DM tables"), it exposes the memory leak in dm_cache_metadata_abort when the function is called multiple times. Specifically, dm-cache fails to sync the new cache object's mode during preresume, creating the reproducer condition. This issue could also occur through concurrent metadata_operation_failed calls due to races in cache mode updates, but the table preload scenario below provides a reliable reproducer. 1. Create a cache device with some faulty trailing metadata blocks dmsetup create cmeta <<EOF 0 200 linear /dev/sdc 0 200 7992 error EOF dmsetup create cdata --table "0 131072 linear /dev/sdc 8192" dmsetup create corig --table "0 262144 linear /dev/sdc 262144" dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/mapper/cmeta bs=4k count=1 oflag=direct dmsetup create cache --table "0 131072 cache /dev/mapper/cmeta \ /dev/mapper/cdata /dev/mapper/corig 128 1 writethrough smq 0" 2. Suspend and resume the cache to start a new metadata transaction and trigger metadata io errors on the next metadata commit. dmsetup suspend cache dmsetup resume cache 3. Write to the cache device to update metadata fio --filename=/dev/mapper/cache --name test --rw=randwrite --bs=4k \ --randrepeat=0 --direct=1 --size 64k 4. Preload the same table dmsetup reload cache --table "$(dmsetup table cache)" 5. Resume the new table. This triggers the memory leak. dmsetup suspend cache dmsetup resume cache kmemleak logs: <snip> unreferenced object 0xffff8880080c2010 (size 16): comm "dmsetup", pid 132, jiffies 4294982580 hex dump (first 16 bytes): 00 38 b9 07 80 88 ff ff 6a 6b 6b 6b 6b 6b 6b a5 ... backtrace (crc 3118f31c): kmemleak_alloc+0x28/0x40 __kmalloc_cache_noprof+0x3d9/0x510 dm_block_manager_create+0x51/0x140 dm_cache_metadata_abort+0x85/0x320 metadata_operation_failed+0x103/0x1e0 cache_preresume+0xacd/0xe70 dm_table_resume_targets+0xd3/0x320 __dm_resume+0x1b/0xf0 dm_resume+0x127/0x170 <snip>

ptp: ocp: fix resource freeing order

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ptp: ocp: fix resource freeing order Commit a60fc3294a37 ("ptp: rework ptp_clock_unregister() to disable events") added a call to ptp_disable_all_events() which changes the configuration of pins if they support EXTTS events. In ptp_ocp_detach() pins resources are freed before ptp_clock_unregister() and it leads to use-after-free during driver removal. Fix it by changing the order of free/unregister calls. To avoid irq handler running on the other core while ptp device unregistering, call synchronize_irq() after HW is configured to stop producing irqs and no irqs are in-flight.

gpio: rockchip: fix generic IRQ chip leak on remove

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: gpio: rockchip: fix generic IRQ chip leak on remove The driver allocates domain generic chips using irq_alloc_domain_generic_chips() during probe. However, on driver remove/teardown, the generic chips are not automatically freed when the IRQ domain is removed because the domain flags do not include IRQ_DOMAIN_FLAG_DESTROY_GC. This causes both the domain generic chips structure and the associated generic chips to be leaked. Additionally, the generic chips remain on the global gc_list and may later be visited by generic IRQ chip suspend, resume, or shutdown callbacks after the GPIO bank has been removed, potentially resulting in a use-after-free and kernel crash. Fix the resource leak by explicitly calling irq_domain_remove_generic_chips() before removing the IRQ domain in rockchip_gpio_remove().

vsock/vmci: fix sk_ack_backlog leak on failed handshake

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vsock/vmci: fix sk_ack_backlog leak on failed handshake When vmci_transport_recv_connecting_server() returns an error, vmci_transport_recv_listen() calls vsock_remove_pending() but never calls sk_acceptq_removed(). This leaves sk_ack_backlog incremented permanently. Repeated handshake failures (malformed packets, queue pair alloc failure, event subscribe failure) cause sk_ack_backlog to climb toward sk_max_ack_backlog. Once it reaches the limit the listener permanently refuses all new connections with -ECONNREFUSED, a silent denial of service requiring a process restart to recover. The two existing sk_acceptq_removed() calls in af_vsock.c do not cover this path: line 764 checks vsock_is_pending() which returns false after vsock_remove_pending(), and line 1889 is only reached on successful accept(). Fix by balancing sk_acceptq_added() with sk_acceptq_removed() on the error path.

drm/nouveau: fix nvkm_device leak on aperture removal failure

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/nouveau: fix nvkm_device leak on aperture removal failure When aperture_remove_conflicting_pci_devices() fails during probe, the error path returns directly without unwinding the nvkm_device that was just allocated by nvkm_device_pci_new(). This leaks both the device wrapper and the pci_enable_device() reference taken inside it. Jump to the existing fail_nvkm label so nvkm_device_del() runs and balances both. The leak was introduced when the intermediate nvkm_device_del() between detection and aperture removal was dropped in favor of creating the pci device once.

Bluetooth: fix memory leak in error path of hci_alloc_dev()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: fix memory leak in error path of hci_alloc_dev() Early failures in Bluetooth HCI UART configuration leak SRCU percpu memory. When device initialization fails before hci_register_dev() completes, the HCI_UNREGISTER flag is never set. As a result, when the device reference count reaches zero, bt_host_release() evaluates this flag as false and falls back to a direct kfree(hdev). Because hci_release_dev() is bypassed, the SRCU struct initialized early in hci_alloc_dev() is never cleaned up, resulting in a leak of percpu memory. Fix the leak by explicitly calling cleanup_srcu_struct() in the fallback (unregistered) branch of bt_host_release() before freeing the device.

KVM: Don't WARN if memory is dirtied without a vCPU when the VM is dying

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: Don't WARN if memory is dirtied without a vCPU when the VM is dying When marking a page dirty, complain about not having a running/loaded vCPU if and only if the VM is still alive, i.e. its refcount is non-zero. This will allow fixing a memory leak for x86 SEV-ES guests without hitting what is effectively a false positive on the WARN. For some SEV-ES VM-Exits, KVM keeps a writable mapping of a guest page across an exit to userspace, and typically unmaps the page on the next KVM_RUN. But if userspace never calls KVM_RUN after such an exit, then KVM needs to unmap the page when the vCPU is destroyed, which in turn triggers the WARN about not having a running vCPU. Alternatively, SEV-ES could temporarily load the vCPU to suppress the WARN, as is done in nested_vmx_free_vcpu() (but for completely unrelated reasons; suppressing WARN from nested_put_vmcs12_pages() is pure happenstance). But loading a vCPU during destruction is gross (ideally nVMX code would be cleaned up), risks complicating the SEV-ES code (KVM would need to ensure the temporarily load()+put() only runs when the vCPU isn't already loaded), and is ultimately pointless. The motivation for the WARN is to guard against KVM dirtying guest memory without pushing the corresponding GFN to the active vCPU's dirty ring, e.g. to ensure userspace doesn't miss a dirty page. But for the VM's refcount to reach zero, there can't be _any_ userspace mappings to the dirty ring, as mapping the dirty ring requires doing mmap() on the vCPU FD. I.e. if userspace had a valid mapping for the dirty ring, then the vCPU file and thus the owning VM would still be alive. And so since userspace can't possibly reach the dirty ring, whether or not KVM technically "misses" a push to the dirty ring is irrelevant.

Bluetooth: hci_conn: Fix memory leak in hci_le_big_terminate()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: hci_conn: Fix memory leak in hci_le_big_terminate() hci_le_big_terminate() allocates iso_list_data via kzalloc_obj but returns 0 without freeing it when neither pa_sync_term nor big_sync_term flags are set after evaluating the PA and BIG sync connection state. This early-return path was introduced when hci_le_big_terminate() was refactored to take struct hci_conn instead of raw u8 parameters, adding PA/BIG flag evaluation logic. The existing kfree() on hci_cmd_sync_queue failure does not cover this path.

nfsd: put dl_stid if fail to queue dl_recall

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfsd: put dl_stid if fail to queue dl_recall Before calling nfsd4_run_cb to queue dl_recall to the callback_wq, we increment the reference count of dl_stid. We expect that after the corresponding work_struct is processed, the reference count of dl_stid will be decremented through the callback function nfsd4_cb_recall_release. However, if the call to nfsd4_run_cb fails, the incremented reference count of dl_stid will not be decremented correspondingly, leading to the following nfs4_stid leak: unreferenced object 0xffff88812067b578 (size 344): comm "nfsd", pid 2761, jiffies 4295044002 (age 5541.241s) hex dump (first 32 bytes): 01 00 00 00 6b 6b 6b 6b b8 02 c0 e2 81 88 ff ff ....kkkk........ 00 6b 6b 6b 6b 6b 6b 6b 00 00 00 00 ad 4e ad de .kkkkkkk.....N.. backtrace: kmem_cache_alloc+0x4b9/0x700 nfsd4_process_open1+0x34/0x300 nfsd4_open+0x2d1/0x9d0 nfsd4_proc_compound+0x7a2/0xe30 nfsd_dispatch+0x241/0x3e0 svc_process_common+0x5d3/0xcc0 svc_process+0x2a3/0x320 nfsd+0x180/0x2e0 kthread+0x199/0x1d0 ret_from_fork+0x30/0x50 ret_from_fork_asm+0x1b/0x30 unreferenced object 0xffff8881499f4d28 (size 368): comm "nfsd", pid 2761, jiffies 4295044005 (age 5541.239s) hex dump (first 32 bytes): 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 30 4d 9f 49 81 88 ff ff ........0M.I.... 30 4d 9f 49 81 88 ff ff 20 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 0M.I.... ....... backtrace: kmem_cache_alloc+0x4b9/0x700 nfs4_alloc_stid+0x29/0x210 alloc_init_deleg+0x92/0x2e0 nfs4_set_delegation+0x284/0xc00 nfs4_open_delegation+0x216/0x3f0 nfsd4_process_open2+0x2b3/0xee0 nfsd4_open+0x770/0x9d0 nfsd4_proc_compound+0x7a2/0xe30 nfsd_dispatch+0x241/0x3e0 svc_process_common+0x5d3/0xcc0 svc_process+0x2a3/0x320 nfsd+0x180/0x2e0 kthread+0x199/0x1d0 ret_from_fork+0x30/0x50 ret_from_fork_asm+0x1b/0x30 Fix it by checking the result of nfsd4_run_cb and call nfs4_put_stid if fail to queue dl_recall.

vsock/virtio: fix zerocopy completion for multi-skb sends

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vsock/virtio: fix zerocopy completion for multi-skb sends When a large message is fragmented into multiple skbs, the zerocopy uarg is only allocated and attached to the last skb in the loop. Non-final skbs carry pinned user pages with no completion tracking, so the kernel has no way to notify userspace when those pages are safe to reuse. If the loop breaks early the uarg is never allocated at all, leaking pinned pages with no completion notification. Fix this by following the approach used by TCP: allocate the zerocopy uarg (if not provided by the caller) before the send loop and attach it to every skb via skb_zcopy_set(), which takes a reference per skb. Each skb's completion properly decrements the refcount, and the notification only fires after the last skb is freed. On failure, if no data was sent, the uarg is cleanly aborted via net_zcopy_put_abort(). This issue was initially discovered by sashiko while reviewing commit 1cb36e252211 ("vsock/virtio: fix MSG_ZEROCOPY pinned-pages accounting") but was pre-existing.

drm/vc4: fix krealloc() memory leak

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/vc4: fix krealloc() memory leak Don't just overwrite the original pointer passed to krealloc() with its return value without checking latter: MEM = krealloc(MEM, SZ, GFP); If krealloc() returns NULL, that erases the pointer to the still allocated memory, hence leaks this memory. Instead, use a temporary variable, check it's not NULL and only then assign it to the original pointer: TMP = krealloc(MEM, SZ, GFP); if (!TMP) return; MEM = TMP; While on it, use krealloc_array().

x86/mce: use is_copy_from_user() to determine copy-from-user context

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: x86/mce: use is_copy_from_user() to determine copy-from-user context Patch series "mm/hwpoison: Fix regressions in memory failure handling", v4. ## 1. What am I trying to do: This patchset resolves two critical regressions related to memory failure handling that have appeared in the upstream kernel since version 5.17, as compared to 5.10 LTS. - copyin case: poison found in user page while kernel copying from user space - instr case: poison found while instruction fetching in user space ## 2. What is the expected outcome and why - For copyin case: Kernel can recover from poison found where kernel is doing get_user() or copy_from_user() if those places get an error return and the kernel return -EFAULT to the process instead of crashing. More specifily, MCE handler checks the fixup handler type to decide whether an in kernel #MC can be recovered. When EX_TYPE_UACCESS is found, the PC jumps to recovery code specified in _ASM_EXTABLE_FAULT() and return a -EFAULT to user space. - For instr case: If a poison found while instruction fetching in user space, full recovery is possible. User process takes #PF, Linux allocates a new page and fills by reading from storage. ## 3. What actually happens and why - For copyin case: kernel panic since v5.17 Commit 4c132d1d844a ("x86/futex: Remove .fixup usage") introduced a new extable fixup type, EX_TYPE_EFAULT_REG, and later patches updated the extable fixup type for copy-from-user operations, changing it from EX_TYPE_UACCESS to EX_TYPE_EFAULT_REG. It breaks previous EX_TYPE_UACCESS handling when posion found in get_user() or copy_from_user(). - For instr case: user process is killed by a SIGBUS signal due to #CMCI and #MCE race When an uncorrected memory error is consumed there is a race between the CMCI from the memory controller reporting an uncorrected error with a UCNA signature, and the core reporting and SRAR signature machine check when the data is about to be consumed. ### Background: why *UN*corrected errors tied to *C*MCI in Intel platform [1] Prior to Icelake memory controllers reported patrol scrub events that detected a previously unseen uncorrected error in memory by signaling a broadcast machine check with an SRAO (Software Recoverable Action Optional) signature in the machine check bank. This was overkill because it's not an urgent problem that no core is on the verge of consuming that bad data. It's also found that multi SRAO UCE may cause nested MCE interrupts and finally become an IERR. Hence, Intel downgrades the machine check bank signature of patrol scrub from SRAO to UCNA (Uncorrected, No Action required), and signal changed to #CMCI. Just to add to the confusion, Linux does take an action (in uc_decode_notifier()) to try to offline the page despite the UC*NA* signature name. ### Background: why #CMCI and #MCE race when poison is consuming in Intel platform [1] Having decided that CMCI/UCNA is the best action for patrol scrub errors, the memory controller uses it for reads too. But the memory controller is executing asynchronously from the core, and can't tell the difference between a "real" read and a speculative read. So it will do CMCI/UCNA if an error is found in any read. Thus: 1) Core is clever and thinks address A is needed soon, issues a speculative read. 2) Core finds it is going to use address A soon after sending the read request 3) The CMCI from the memory controller is in a race with MCE from the core that will soon try to retire the load from address A. Quite often (because speculation has got better) the CMCI from the memory controller is delivered before the core is committed to the instruction reading address A, so the interrupt is taken, and Linux offlines the page (marking it as poison). ## Why user process is killed for instr case Commit 046545a661af ("mm/hwpoison: fix error page recovered but reported "not ---truncated---

KVM: arm64: Fix pin leak and publication ordering in __pkvm_init_vcpu()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: arm64: Fix pin leak and publication ordering in __pkvm_init_vcpu() Two bugs exist in the vCPU initialisation path: 1. If a check fails after hyp_pin_shared_mem() succeeds, the cleanup path jumps to 'unlock' without calling unpin_host_vcpu() or unpin_host_sve_state(), permanently leaking pin references on the host vCPU and SVE state pages. Extract a register_hyp_vcpu() helper that performs the checks and the store. When register_hyp_vcpu() returns an error, call unpin_host_vcpu() and unpin_host_sve_state() inline before falling through to the existing 'unlock' label. 2. register_hyp_vcpu() publishes the new vCPU pointer into 'hyp_vm->vcpus[]' with a bare store, allowing a concurrent caller of pkvm_load_hyp_vcpu() to observe a partially initialised vCPU object. Ensure the store uses smp_store_release() and the load uses smp_load_acquire(). While 'vm_table_lock' currently serialises the store and the load, these barriers ensure the reader sees the fully initialised 'hyp_vcpu' object even if there were a lockless path or if the lock's own ordering guarantees were insufficient for nested object initialization.

fs: Prevent file descriptor table allocations exceeding INT_MAX

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fs: Prevent file descriptor table allocations exceeding INT_MAX When sysctl_nr_open is set to a very high value (for example, 1073741816 as set by systemd), processes attempting to use file descriptors near the limit can trigger massive memory allocation attempts that exceed INT_MAX, resulting in a WARNING in mm/slub.c: WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 44 at mm/slub.c:5027 __kvmalloc_node_noprof+0x21a/0x288 This happens because kvmalloc_array() and kvmalloc() check if the requested size exceeds INT_MAX and emit a warning when the allocation is not flagged with __GFP_NOWARN. Specifically, when nr_open is set to 1073741816 (0x3ffffff8) and a process calls dup2(oldfd, 1073741880), the kernel attempts to allocate: - File descriptor array: 1073741880 * 8 bytes = 8,589,935,040 bytes - Multiple bitmaps: ~400MB - Total allocation size: > 8GB (exceeding INT_MAX = 2,147,483,647) Reproducer: 1. Set /proc/sys/fs/nr_open to 1073741816: # echo 1073741816 > /proc/sys/fs/nr_open 2. Run a program that uses a high file descriptor: #include <unistd.h> #include <sys/resource.h> int main() { struct rlimit rlim = {1073741824, 1073741824}; setrlimit(RLIMIT_NOFILE, &rlim); dup2(2, 1073741880); // Triggers the warning return 0; } 3. Observe WARNING in dmesg at mm/slub.c:5027 systemd commit a8b627a introduced automatic bumping of fs.nr_open to the maximum possible value. The rationale was that systems with memory control groups (memcg) no longer need separate file descriptor limits since memory is properly accounted. However, this change overlooked that: 1. The kernel's allocation functions still enforce INT_MAX as a maximum size regardless of memcg accounting 2. Programs and tests that legitimately test file descriptor limits can inadvertently trigger massive allocations 3. The resulting allocations (>8GB) are impractical and will always fail systemd's algorithm starts with INT_MAX and keeps halving the value until the kernel accepts it. On most systems, this results in nr_open being set to 1073741816 (0x3ffffff8), which is just under 1GB of file descriptors. While processes rarely use file descriptors near this limit in normal operation, certain selftests (like tools/testing/selftests/core/unshare_test.c) and programs that test file descriptor limits can trigger this issue. Fix this by adding a check in alloc_fdtable() to ensure the requested allocation size does not exceed INT_MAX. This causes the operation to fail with -EMFILE instead of triggering a kernel warning and avoids the impractical >8GB memory allocation request.

mm/kmemleak: avoid soft lockup in __kmemleak_do_cleanup()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/kmemleak: avoid soft lockup in __kmemleak_do_cleanup() A soft lockup warning was observed on a relative small system x86-64 system with 16 GB of memory when running a debug kernel with kmemleak enabled. watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#8 stuck for 33s! [kworker/8:1:134] The test system was running a workload with hot unplug happening in parallel. Then kemleak decided to disable itself due to its inability to allocate more kmemleak objects. The debug kernel has its CONFIG_DEBUG_KMEMLEAK_MEM_POOL_SIZE set to 40,000. The soft lockup happened in kmemleak_do_cleanup() when the existing kmemleak objects were being removed and deleted one-by-one in a loop via a workqueue. In this particular case, there are at least 40,000 objects that need to be processed and given the slowness of a debug kernel and the fact that a raw_spinlock has to be acquired and released in __delete_object(), it could take a while to properly handle all these objects. As kmemleak has been disabled in this case, the object removal and deletion process can be further optimized as locking isn't really needed. However, it is probably not worth the effort to optimize for such an edge case that should rarely happen. So the simple solution is to call cond_resched() at periodic interval in the iteration loop to avoid soft lockup.

spi: spi-qpic-snand: unregister ECC engine on probe error and device remove

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: spi: spi-qpic-snand: unregister ECC engine on probe error and device remove The on-host hardware ECC engine remains registered both when the spi_register_controller() function returns with an error and also on device removal. Change the qcom_spi_probe() function to unregister the engine on the error path, and add the missing unregistering call to qcom_spi_remove() to avoid possible use-after-free issues.

ax25: properly unshare skbs in ax25_kiss_rcv()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ax25: properly unshare skbs in ax25_kiss_rcv() Bernard Pidoux reported a regression apparently caused by commit c353e8983e0d ("net: introduce per netns packet chains"). skb->dev becomes NULL and we crash in __netif_receive_skb_core(). Before above commit, different kind of bugs or corruptions could happen without a major crash. But the root cause is that ax25_kiss_rcv() can queue/mangle input skb without checking if this skb is shared or not. Many thanks to Bernard Pidoux for his help, diagnosis and tests. We had a similar issue years ago fixed with commit 7aaed57c5c28 ("phonet: properly unshare skbs in phonet_rcv()").

wifi: ath12k: Avoid memory leak while enabling statistics

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: ath12k: Avoid memory leak while enabling statistics Driver uses monitor destination rings for extended statistics mode and standalone monitor mode. In extended statistics mode, TLVs are parsed from the buffer received from the monitor destination ring and assigned to the ppdu_info structure to update per-packet statistics. In standalone monitor mode, along with per-packet statistics, the packet data (payload) is captured, and the driver updates per MSDU to mac80211. When the AP interface is enabled, only extended statistics mode is activated. As part of enabling monitor rings for collecting statistics, the driver subscribes to HAL_RX_MPDU_START TLV in the filter configuration. This TLV is received from the monitor destination ring, and kzalloc for the mon_mpdu object occurs, which is not freed, leading to a memory leak. The kzalloc for the mon_mpdu object is only required while enabling the standalone monitor interface. This causes a memory leak while enabling extended statistics mode in the driver. Fix this memory leak by removing the kzalloc for the mon_mpdu object in the HAL_RX_MPDU_START TLV handling. Additionally, remove the standalone monitor mode handlings in the HAL_MON_BUF_ADDR and HAL_RX_MSDU_END TLVs. These TLV tags will be handled properly when enabling standalone monitor mode in the future. net: txgbe: fix memory leak in txgbe_probe() error path

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: txgbe: fix memory leak in txgbe_probe() error path When txgbe_sw_init() is called, memory is allocated for wx->rss_key in wx_init_rss_key(). However, in txgbe_probe() function, the subsequent error paths after txgbe_sw_init() don't free the rss_key. Fix that by freeing it in error path along with wx->mac_table. drm/v3d: Add job to pending list if the reset was skipped

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/v3d: Add job to pending list if the reset was skipped When a CL/CSD job times out, we check if the GPU has made any progress since the last timeout. If so, instead of resetting the hardware, we skip the reset and let the timer get rearmed. This gives long-running jobs a chance to complete. However, when `timedout_job()` is called, the job in question is removed from the pending list, which means it won't be automatically freed through `free_job()`. Consequently, when we skip the reset and keep the job running, the job won't be freed when it finally completes. This situation leads to a memory leak, as exposed in [1] and [2]. Similarly to commit 704d3d60fec4 ("drm/etnaviv: don't block scheduler when GPU is still active"), this patch ensures the job is put back on the pending list when extending the timeout.

net: fix udp gso skb_segment after pull from frag_list

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: fix udp gso skb_segment after pull from frag_list Commit a1e40ac5b5e9 ("net: gso: fix udp gso fraglist segmentation after pull from frag_list") detected invalid geometry in frag_list skbs and redirects them from skb_segment_list to more robust skb_segment. But some packets with modified geometry can also hit bugs in that code. We don't know how many such cases exist. Addressing each one by one also requires touching the complex skb_segment code, which risks introducing bugs for other types of skbs. Instead, linearize all these packets that fail the basic invariants on gso fraglist skbs. That is more robust. If only part of the fraglist payload is pulled into head_skb, it will always cause exception when splitting skbs by skb_segment. For detailed call stack information, see below. Valid SKB_GSO_FRAGLIST skbs - consist of two or more segments - the head_skb holds the protocol headers plus first gso_size - one or more frag_list skbs hold exactly one segment - all but the last must be gso_size Optional datapath hooks such as NAT and BPF (bpf_skb_pull_data) can modify fraglist skbs, breaking these invariants. In extreme cases they pull one part of data into skb linear. For UDP, this causes three payloads with lengths of (11,11,10) bytes were pulled tail to become (12,10,10) bytes. The skbs no longer meets the above SKB_GSO_FRAGLIST conditions because payload was pulled into head_skb, it needs to be linearized before pass to regular skb_segment. skb_segment+0xcd0/0xd14 __udp_gso_segment+0x334/0x5f4 udp4_ufo_fragment+0x118/0x15c inet_gso_segment+0x164/0x338 skb_mac_gso_segment+0xc4/0x13c __skb_gso_segment+0xc4/0x124 validate_xmit_skb+0x9c/0x2c0 validate_xmit_skb_list+0x4c/0x80 sch_direct_xmit+0x70/0x404 __dev_queue_xmit+0x64c/0xe5c neigh_resolve_output+0x178/0x1c4 ip_finish_output2+0x37c/0x47c __ip_finish_output+0x194/0x240 ip_finish_output+0x20/0xf4 ip_output+0x100/0x1a0 NF_HOOK+0xc4/0x16c ip_forward+0x314/0x32c ip_rcv+0x90/0x118 __netif_receive_skb+0x74/0x124 process_backlog+0xe8/0x1a4 __napi_poll+0x5c/0x1f8 net_rx_action+0x154/0x314 handle_softirqs+0x154/0x4b8 [118.376811] [C201134] rxq0_pus: [name:bug&]kernel BUG at net/core/skbuff.c:4278! Boot log of ACPI operand cache leak is as follows: >[ 0.585957] ACPI: Added _OSI(Module Device) >[ 0.587218] ACPI: Added _OSI(Processor Device) >[ 0.588530] ACPI: Added _OSI(3.0 _SCP Extensions) >[ 0.589790] ACPI: Added _OSI(Processor Aggregator Device) >[ 0.591534] ACPI Error: Illegal I/O port address/length above 64K: C806E00000004002/0x2 (20170303/hwvalid-155) >[ 0.594351] ACPI Exception: AE_LIMIT, Unable to initialize fixed events (20170303/evevent-88) >[ 0.597858] ACPI: Unable to start the ACPI Interpreter >[ 0.599162] ACPI Error: Could not remove SCI handler (20170303/evmisc-281) >[ 0.601836] kmem_cache_destroy Acpi-Operand: Slab cache still has objects >[ 0.603556] CPU: 0 PID: 1 Comm: swapper/0 Not tainted 4.12.0-rc5 #26 >[ 0.605159] Hardware name: innotek gmb_h virtual_box/virtual_box, BIOS virtual_box 12/01/2006 >[ 0.609177] Call Trace: >[ 0.610063] ? dump_stack+0x5c/0x81 >[ 0.611118] ? kmem_cache_destroy+0x1aa/0x1c0 >[ 0.612632] ? acpi_sleep_proc_init+0x27/0x27 >[ 0.613906] ? acpi_os_delete_cache+0xa/0x10 >[ 0.617986] ? acpi_ut_delete_caches+0x3f/0x7b >[ 0.619293] ? acpi_terminate+0xa/0x14 >[ 0.620394] ? acpi_init+0x2af/0x34f >[ 0.621616] ? __class_create+0x4c/0x80 >[ 0.623412] ? video_setup+0x7f/0x7f >[ 0.624585] ? acpi_sleep_proc_init+0x27/0x27 >[ 0.625861] ? do_one_initcall+0x4e/0x1a0 >[ 0.627513] ? kernel_init_freeable+0x19e/0x21f >[ 0.628972] ? rest_init+0x80/0x80 >[ 0.630043] ? kernel_init+0xa/0x100 >[ 0.631084] ? ret_from_fork+0x25/0x30 >[ 0.633343] vgaarb: loaded >[ 0.635036] EDAC MC: Ver: 3.0.0 >[ 0.638601] PCI: Probing PCI hardware >[ 0.639833] PCI host bridge to bus 0000:00 >[ 0.641031] pci_bus 0000:00: root bus resource [io 0x0000-0xffff] > ... Continue to boot and log is omitted ... I analyzed this memory leak in detail and found acpi_ds_obj_stack_pop_and_ delete() function miscalculated the top of the stack. acpi_ds_obj_stack_push() function uses walk_state->operand_index for start position of the top, but acpi_ds_obj_stack_pop_and_delete() function considers index 0 for it. Therefore, this causes acpi operand memory leak. This cache leak causes a security threat because an old kernel (<= 4.9) shows memory locations of kernel functions in stack dump. Some malicious users could use this information to neutralize kernel ASLR. I made a patch to fix ACPI operand cache leak.

netlink: Fix wraparounds of sk->sk_rmem_alloc.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netlink: Fix wraparounds of sk->sk_rmem_alloc. Netlink has this pattern in some places if (atomic_read(&sk->sk_rmem_alloc) > sk->sk_rcvbuf) atomic_add(skb->truesize, &sk->sk_rmem_alloc); , which has the same problem fixed by commit 5a465a0da13e ("udp: Fix multiple wraparounds of sk->sk_rmem_alloc."). For example, if we set INT_MAX to SO_RCVBUFFORCE, the condition is always false as the two operands are of int. Then, a single socket can eat as many skb as possible until OOM happens, and we can see multiple wraparounds of sk->sk_rmem_alloc. Let's fix it by using atomic_add_return() and comparing the two variables as unsigned int. Before: [root@fedora ~]# ss -f netlink Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address:Port Peer Address:Port -1668710080 0 rtnl:nl_wraparound/293 * After: [root@fedora ~]# ss -f netlink Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address:Port Peer Address:Port 2147483072 0 rtnl:nl_wraparound/290 * ^ `--- INT_MAX - 576

wifi: ath12k: fix memory leak in ath12k_pci_remove()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: ath12k: fix memory leak in ath12k_pci_remove() Kmemleak reported this error: unreferenced object 0xffff1c165cec3060 (size 32): comm "insmod", pid 560, jiffies 4296964570 (age 235.596s) backtrace: [<000000005434db68>] __kmem_cache_alloc_node+0x1f4/0x2c0 [<000000001203b155>] kmalloc_trace+0x40/0x88 [<0000000028adc9c8>] _request_firmware+0xb8/0x608 [<00000000cad1aef7>] firmware_request_nowarn+0x50/0x80 [<000000005011a682>] local_pci_probe+0x48/0xd0 [<00000000077cd295>] pci_device_probe+0xb4/0x200 [<0000000087184c94>] really_probe+0x150/0x2c0 The firmware memory was allocated in ath12k_pci_probe(), but not freed in ath12k_pci_remove() in case ATH12K_FLAG_QMI_FAIL bit is set.
