netfilter: xt_tcpmss: check remaining length before reading optlen

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: xt_tcpmss: check remaining length before reading optlen Quoting reporter: In net/netfilter/xt_tcpmss.c (lines 53-68), the TCP option parser reads op[i+1] directly without validating the remaining option length. If the last byte of the option field is not EOL/NOP (0/1), the code attempts to index op[i+1]. In the case where i + 1 == optlen, this causes an out-of-bounds read, accessing memory past the optlen boundary (either reading beyond the stack buffer _opt or the following payload).

wifi: brcmfmac: Check the count value of channel spec to prevent out-of-bounds reads

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: brcmfmac: Check the count value of channel spec to prevent out-of-bounds reads This patch fixes slab-out-of-bounds reads in brcmfmac that occur in brcmf_construct_chaninfo() and brcmf_enable_bw40_2g() when the count value of channel specifications provided by the device is greater than the length of 'list->element[]', decided by the size of the 'list' allocated with kzalloc(). The patch adds checks that make the functions free the buffer and return -EINVAL if that is the case. Note that the negative return is handled by the caller, brcmf_setup_wiphybands() or brcmf_cfg80211_attach(). Found by a modified version of syzkaller. On RISC-V, early_init_dt_verify() is called twice. Once, directly, in setup_arch() if CONFIG_BUILTIN_DTB is not enabled and once indirectly, very early in the boot process, by parse_dtb() when it calls early_init_dt_scan_nodes(). This first call uses dtb_early_va to set initial_boot_params, which is not usable later in the boot process when early_init_fdt_scan_reserved_mem() is called. On arm64 for example, the corresponding call to early_init_dt_scan_nodes() uses fixmap addresses and doesn't suffer the same fate. Move early_init_fdt_scan_reserved_mem() further along the boot sequence, after the direct call to early_init_dt_verify() in setup_arch() so that the names use the correct virtual memory addresses. The above supposed that CONFIG_BUILTIN_DTB was not set, but should work equally in the case where it is - unflatted_and_copy_device_tree() also updates initial_boot_params.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: x86: smm: number of GPRs in the SMRAM image depends on the image format On 64 bit host, if the guest doesn't have X86_FEATURE_LM, KVM will access 16 gprs to 32-bit smram image, causing out-ouf-bound ram access. On 32 bit host, the rsm_load_state_64/enter_smm_save_state_64 is compiled out, thus access overflow can't happen.

i40e: remove read access to debugfs files

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: i40e: remove read access to debugfs files The 'command' and 'netdev_ops' debugfs files are a legacy debugging interface supported by the i40e driver since its early days by commit 02e9c290814c ("i40e: debugfs interface"). Both of these debugfs files provide a read handler which is mostly useless, and which is implemented with questionable logic. They both use a static 256 byte buffer which is initialized to the empty string. In the case of the 'command' file this buffer is literally never used and simply wastes space. In the case of the 'netdev_ops' file, the last command written is saved here. On read, the files contents are presented as the name of the device followed by a colon and then the contents of their respective static buffer. For 'command' this will always be "<device>: ". For 'netdev_ops', this will be "<device>: <last command written>". But note the buffer is shared between all devices operated by this module. At best, it is mostly meaningless information, and at worse it could be accessed simultaneously as there doesn't appear to be any locking mechanism. We have also recently received multiple reports for both read functions about their use of snprintf and potential overflow that could result in reading arbitrary kernel memory. For the 'command' file, this is definitely impossible, since the static buffer is always zero and never written to. For the 'netdev_ops' file, it does appear to be possible, if the user carefully crafts the command input, it will be copied into the buffer, which could be large enough to cause snprintf to truncate, which then causes the copy_to_user to read beyond the length of the buffer allocated by kzalloc. A minimal fix would be to replace snprintf() with scnprintf() which would cap the return to the number of bytes written, preventing an overflow. A more involved fix would be to drop the mostly useless static buffers, saving 512 bytes and modifying the read functions to stop needing those as input. Instead, lets just completely drop the read access to these files. These are debug interfaces exposed as part of debugfs, and I don't believe that dropping read access will break any script, as the provided output is pretty useless. You can find the netdev name through other more standard interfaces, and the 'netdev_ops' interface can easily result in garbage if you issue simultaneous writes to multiple devices at once. In order to properly remove the i40e_dbg_netdev_ops_buf, we need to refactor its write function to avoid using the static buffer. Instead, use the same logic as the i40e_dbg_command_write, with an allocated buffer. Update the code to use this instead of the static buffer, and ensure we free the buffer on exit. This fixes simultaneous writes to 'netdev_ops' on multiple devices, and allows us to remove the now unused static buffer along with removing the read access.

ixgbe: fix incorrect map used in eee linkmode

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ixgbe: fix incorrect map used in eee linkmode incorrectly used ixgbe_lp_map in loops intended to populate the supported and advertised EEE linkmode bitmaps based on ixgbe_ls_map. This results in incorrect bit setting and potential out-of-bounds access, since ixgbe_lp_map and ixgbe_ls_map have different sizes and purposes. ixgbe_lp_map[i] -> ixgbe_ls_map[i] Use ixgbe_ls_map for supported and advertised linkmodes, and keep ixgbe_lp_map usage only for link partner (lp_advertised) mapping.

bpf: Fix crash due to out of bounds access into reg2btf_ids.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Fix crash due to out of bounds access into reg2btf_ids. When commit e6ac2450d6de ("bpf: Support bpf program calling kernel function") added kfunc support, it defined reg2btf_ids as a cheap way to translate the verifier reg type to the appropriate btf_vmlinux BTF ID, however commit c25b2ae13603 ("bpf: Replace PTR_TO_XXX_OR_NULL with PTR_TO_XXX | PTR_MAYBE_NULL") moved the __BPF_REG_TYPE_MAX from the last member of bpf_reg_type enum to after the base register types, and defined other variants using type flag composition. However, now, the direct usage of reg->type to index into reg2btf_ids may no longer fall into __BPF_REG_TYPE_MAX range, and hence lead to out of bounds access and kernel crash on dereference of bad pointer.

rcu: Fix rcu_read_unlock() deadloop due to IRQ work

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: rcu: Fix rcu_read_unlock() deadloop due to IRQ work During rcu_read_unlock_special(), if this happens during irq_exit(), we can lockup if an IPI is issued. This is because the IPI itself triggers the irq_exit() path causing a recursive lock up. This is precisely what Xiongfeng found when invoking a BPF program on the trace_tick_stop() tracepoint As shown in the trace below. Fix by managing the irq_work state correctly. irq_exit() __irq_exit_rcu() /* in_hardirq() returns false after this */ preempt_count_sub(HARDIRQ_OFFSET) tick_irq_exit() tick_nohz_irq_exit() tick_nohz_stop_sched_tick() trace_tick_stop() /* a bpf prog is hooked on this trace point */ __bpf_trace_tick_stop() bpf_trace_run2() rcu_read_unlock_special() /* will send a IPI to itself */ irq_work_queue_on(&rdp->defer_qs_iw, rdp->cpu); A simple reproducer can also be obtained by doing the following in tick_irq_exit(). It will hang on boot without the patch: static inline void tick_irq_exit(void) { + rcu_read_lock(); + WRITE_ONCE(current->rcu_read_unlock_special.b.need_qs, true); + rcu_read_unlock(); + [neeraj: Apply Frederic's suggested fix for PREEMPT_RT]

net: usb: ax88179_178a: Fix out-of-bounds accesses in RX fixup

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: usb: ax88179_178a: Fix out-of-bounds accesses in RX fixup ax88179_rx_fixup() contains several out-of-bounds accesses that can be triggered by a malicious (or defective) USB device, in particular: - The metadata array (hdr_off..hdr_off+2*pkt_cnt) can be out of bounds, causing OOB reads and (on big-endian systems) OOB endianness flips. - A packet can overlap the metadata array, causing a later OOB endianness flip to corrupt data used by a cloned SKB that has already been handed off into the network stack. - A packet SKB can be constructed whose tail is far beyond its end, causing out-of-bounds heap data to be considered part of the SKB's data. I have tested that this can be used by a malicious USB device to send a bogus ICMPv6 Echo Request and receive an ICMPv6 Echo Reply in response that contains random kernel heap data. It's probably also possible to get OOB writes from this on a little-endian system somehow - maybe by triggering skb_cow() via IP options processing -, but I haven't tested that.

NFSD: Fix the behavior of READ near OFFSET_MAX

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: NFSD: Fix the behavior of READ near OFFSET_MAX Dan Aloni reports: > Due to commit 8cfb9015280d ("NFS: Always provide aligned buffers to > the RPC read layers") on the client, a read of 0xfff is aligned up > to server rsize of 0x1000. > > As a result, in a test where the server has a file of size > 0x7fffffffffffffff, and the client tries to read from the offset > 0x7ffffffffffff000, the read causes loff_t overflow in the server > and it returns an NFS code of EINVAL to the client. The client as > a result indefinitely retries the request. The Linux NFS client does not handle NFS?ERR_INVAL, even though all NFS specifications permit servers to return that status code for a READ. Instead of NFS?ERR_INVAL, have out-of-range READ requests succeed and return a short result. Set the EOF flag in the result to prevent the client from retrying the READ request. This behavior appears to be consistent with Solaris NFS servers. Note that NFSv3 and NFSv4 use u64 offset values on the wire. These must be converted to loff_t internally before use -- an implicit type cast is not adequate for this purpose. Otherwise VFS checks against sb->s_maxbytes do not work properly.

bpf: Use VM_MAP instead of VM_ALLOC for ringbuf

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Use VM_MAP instead of VM_ALLOC for ringbuf After commit 2fd3fb0be1d1 ("kasan, vmalloc: unpoison VM_ALLOC pages after mapping"), non-VM_ALLOC mappings will be marked as accessible in __get_vm_area_node() when KASAN is enabled. But now the flag for ringbuf area is VM_ALLOC, so KASAN will complain out-of-bound access after vmap() returns. Because the ringbuf area is created by mapping allocated pages, so use VM_MAP instead. After the change, info in /proc/vmallocinfo also changes from [start]-[end] 24576 ringbuf_map_alloc+0x171/0x290 vmalloc user to [start]-[end] 24576 ringbuf_map_alloc+0x171/0x290 vmap user

net/packet: fix slab-out-of-bounds access in packet_recvmsg()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/packet: fix slab-out-of-bounds access in packet_recvmsg() syzbot found that when an AF_PACKET socket is using PACKET_COPY_THRESH and mmap operations, tpacket_rcv() is queueing skbs with garbage in skb->cb[], triggering a too big copy [1] Presumably, users of af_packet using mmap() already gets correct metadata from the mapped buffer, we can simply make sure to clear 12 bytes that might be copied to user space later. media: imx-jpeg: fix a bug of accessing array out of bounds

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: imx-jpeg: fix a bug of accessing array out of bounds When error occurs in parsing jpeg, the slot isn't acquired yet, it may be the default value MXC_MAX_SLOTS. If the driver access the slot using the incorrect slot number, it will access array out of bounds. The result is the driver will change num_domains, which follows slot_data in struct mxc_jpeg_dev. Then the driver won't detach the pm domain at rmmod, which will lead to kernel panic when trying to insmod again.

comedi: pcl726: Prevent invalid irq number

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: comedi: pcl726: Prevent invalid irq number The reproducer passed in an irq number(0x80008000) that was too large, which triggered the oob. Added an interrupt number check to prevent users from passing in an irq number that was too large. If `it->options[1]` is 31, then `1 << it->options[1]` is still invalid because it shifts a 1-bit into the sign bit (which is UB in C). Possible solutions include reducing the upper bound on the `it->options[1]` value to 30 or lower, or using `1U << it->options[1]`. The old code would just not attempt to request the IRQ if the `options[1]` value were invalid. And it would still configure the device without interrupts even if the call to `request_irq` returned an error. So it would be better to combine this test with the test below.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: hwmon: (tps53679) Fix array access with zero-length block read i2c_smbus_read_block_data() can return 0, indicating a zero-length read. When this happens, tps53679_identify_chip() accesses buf[ret - 1] which is buf[-1], reading one byte before the buffer on the stack. Fix by changing the check from "ret < 0" to "ret <= 0", treating a zero-length read as an error (-EIO), which prevents the out-of-bounds array access. Also fix a typo in the adjacent comment: "if present" instead of duplicate "if".

iio: imu: bno055: fix OOB access of hw_xlate array

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iio: imu: bno055: fix OOB access of hw_xlate array Fix a potential out-of-bounds array access of the hw_xlate array in bno055.c. In bno055_get_regmask(), hw_xlate was iterated over the length of the vals array instead of the length of the hw_xlate array. In the case of bno055_gyr_scale, the vals array is larger than the hw_xlate array, so this could result in an out-of-bounds access. In practice, this shouldn't happen though because a match should always be found which breaks out of the for loop before it iterates beyond the end of the hw_xlate array. By adding a new hw_xlate_len field to the bno055_sysfs_attr, we can be sure we are iterating over the correct length.

wifi: ath12k: Correct tid cleanup when tid setup fails

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: ath12k: Correct tid cleanup when tid setup fails Currently, if any error occurs during ath12k_dp_rx_peer_tid_setup(), the tid value is already incremented, even though the corresponding TID is not actually allocated. Proceed to ath12k_dp_rx_peer_tid_delete() starting from unallocated tid, which might leads to freeing unallocated TID and cause potential crash or out-of-bounds access. Hence, fix by correctly decrementing tid before cleanup to match only the successfully allocated TIDs. Also, remove tid-- from failure case of ath12k_dp_rx_peer_frag_setup(), as decrementing the tid before cleanup in loop will take care of this. Compile tested only.

net/mdiobus: Fix potential out-of-bounds read/write access

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/mdiobus: Fix potential out-of-bounds read/write access When using publicly available tools like 'mdio-tools' to read/write data from/to network interface and its PHY via mdiobus, there is no verification of parameters passed to the ioctl and it accepts any mdio address. Currently there is support for 32 addresses in kernel via PHY_MAX_ADDR define, but it is possible to pass higher value than that via ioctl. While read/write operation should generally fail in this case, mdiobus provides stats array, where wrong address may allow out-of-bounds read/write. Fix that by adding address verification before read/write operation. While this excludes this access from any statistics, it improves security of read/write operation.
