Multiple vulnerabilities in the sound(4) mmap path

Second, the audio buffer backing a mapping could be freed when the device was closed even though the mapping remained valid. The freed memory could then be reused elsewhere while still accessible through the stale mapping. The /dev/dsp device nodes are world-accessible by default. On a system with an audio device, either issue allows an unprivileged local user to read and write kernel memory, which can be used to escalate privileges, potentially gaining full control of the affected system. At a minimum, an attacker can crash the kernel, resulting in a Denial of Service (DoS).

The arc4random function in the kernel in FreeBSD 6.3 through 7.1 does not have a proper entropy source for a short time period immediately after boot, which makes it easier for attackers to predict the function's return values and conduct certain attacks against the GEOM framework and various network protocols, related to the Yarrow random number generator.

Kernel use-after-free bug in the TIOCNOTTY handler

The implementation of TIOCNOTTY failed to clear a back-pointer from the structure representing the controlling terminal to the calling process' session. If the invoking process then exits, the terminal structure may end up containing a pointer to freed memory. A malicious process can abuse the dangling pointer to grant itself root privileges.

Multiple issues in ctl(4) CAM Target Layer

The function ctl_write_buffer incorrectly set a flag which resulted in a kernel Use-After-Free when a command finished processing. Malicious software running in a guest VM that exposes virtio_scsi can exploit the vulnerabilities to achieve code execution on the host in the bhyve userspace process, which typically runs as root. Note that bhyve runs in a Capsicum sandbox, so malicious code is constrained by the capabilities available to the bhyve process. A malicious iSCSI initiator could achieve remote code execution on the iSCSI target host.

umtx Kernel panic or Use-After-Free

Concurrent removals of certain anonymous shared memory mappings by using the UMTX_SHM_DESTROY sub-request of UMTX_OP_SHM can lead to decreasing the reference count of the object representing the mapping too many times, causing it to be freed too early. A malicious code exercizing the UMTX_SHM_DESTROY sub-request in parallel can panic the kernel or enable further Use-After-Free attacks, potentially including code execution or Capsicum sandbox escape.

Use-after-free bug in the IPV6_MSFILTER socket option handler

The kernel handler for IPV6_MSFILTER dropped a serializing lock in order to copy the source-filter list from userspace, then reacquired the lock. During this window another thread could free the multicast filter structure, leaving the handler with a stale pointer to freed memory. An unprivileged local user can exploit this use-after-free to escalate privileges.

Kernel use-after-free via file descriptor syscalls

A file descriptor can be closed while a thread is blocked in a poll(2) or select(2) call waiting for that descriptor. Because the blocked thread does not hold a reference to the underlying object, this closure may result in the object being freed while the thread remains blocked. In this situation, the kernel must remove the blocked thread from the per-object wait queue prior to freeing the object. In the case of some file descriptor types, the kernel failed to unlink blocked threads from the object before freeing it. When the blocked thread is subsequently woken, it accesses memory that has already been freed resulting in a use-after-free vulnerability. The use-after-free vulnerability may be triggered by an unprivileged local user and can be exploited to obtain superuser privileges.

exfat: fix random stack corruption after get_block

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: exfat: fix random stack corruption after get_block When get_block is called with a buffer_head allocated on the stack, such as do_mpage_readpage, stack corruption due to buffer_head UAF may occur in the following race condition situation. <CPU 0> <CPU 1> mpage_read_folio <<bh on stack>> do_mpage_readpage exfat_get_block bh_read __bh_read get_bh(bh) submit_bh wait_on_buffer ... end_buffer_read_sync __end_buffer_read_notouch unlock_buffer <<keep going>> ... ... ... ... <<bh is not valid out of mpage_read_folio>> . . another_function <<variable A on stack>> put_bh(bh) atomic_dec(bh->b_count) * stack corruption here * This patch returns -EAGAIN if a folio does not have buffers when bh_read needs to be called. By doing this, the caller can fallback to functions like block_read_full_folio(), create a buffer_head in the folio, and then call get_block again. Let's do not call bh_read() with on-stack buffer_head.

binder: fix node UAF in binder_add_freeze_work()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: binder: fix node UAF in binder_add_freeze_work() In binder_add_freeze_work() we iterate over the proc->nodes with the proc->inner_lock held. However, this lock is temporarily dropped in order to acquire the node->lock first (lock nesting order). This can race with binder_node_release() and trigger a use-after-free: ================================================================== BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in _raw_spin_lock+0xe4/0x19c Write of size 4 at addr ffff53c04c29dd04 by task freeze/640 CPU: 5 UID: 0 PID: 640 Comm: freeze Not tainted 6.11.0-07343-ga727812a8d45 #17 Hardware name: linux,dummy-virt (DT) Call trace: _raw_spin_lock+0xe4/0x19c binder_add_freeze_work+0x148/0x478 binder_ioctl+0x1e70/0x25ac __arm64_sys_ioctl+0x124/0x190 Allocated by task 637: __kmalloc_cache_noprof+0x12c/0x27c binder_new_node+0x50/0x700 binder_transaction+0x35ac/0x6f74 binder_thread_write+0xfb8/0x42a0 binder_ioctl+0x18f0/0x25ac __arm64_sys_ioctl+0x124/0x190 Freed by task 637: kfree+0xf0/0x330 binder_thread_read+0x1e88/0x3a68 binder_ioctl+0x16d8/0x25ac __arm64_sys_ioctl+0x124/0x190 ================================================================== Fix the race by taking a temporary reference on the node before releasing the proc->inner lock. This ensures the node remains alive while in use.

blk-cgroup: Fix UAF in blkcg_unpin_online()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: blk-cgroup: Fix UAF in blkcg_unpin_online() blkcg_unpin_online() walks up the blkcg hierarchy putting the online pin. ksmbd: fix use-after-free in SMB request handling

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksmbd: fix use-after-free in SMB request handling A race condition exists between SMB request handling in `ksmbd_conn_handler_loop()` and the freeing of `ksmbd_conn` in the workqueue handler `handle_ksmbd_work()`. This leads to a UAF. - KASAN: slab-use-after-free Read in handle_ksmbd_work - KASAN: slab-use-after-free in rtlock_slowlock_locked This race condition arises as follows: - `ksmbd_conn_handler_loop()` waits for `conn->r_count` to reach zero: `wait_event(conn->r_count_q, atomic_read(&conn->r_count) == 0);` - Meanwhile, `handle_ksmbd_work()` decrements `conn->r_count` using `atomic_dec_return(&conn->r_count)`, and if it reaches zero, calls `ksmbd_conn_free()`, which frees `conn`. - However, after `handle_ksmbd_work()` decrements `conn->r_count`, it may still access `conn->r_count_q` in the following line: `waitqueue_active(&conn->r_count_q)` or `wake_up(&conn->r_count_q)` This results in a UAF, as `conn` has already been freed. The discovery of this UAF can be referenced in the following PR for syzkaller's support for SMB requests.

tcp/dccp: Don't use timer_pending() in reqsk_queue_unlink().

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tcp/dccp: Don't use timer_pending() in reqsk_queue_unlink(). Martin KaFai Lau reported use-after-free [0] in reqsk_timer_handler(). """ We are seeing a use-after-free from a bpf prog attached to trace_tcp_retransmit_synack. The program passes the req->sk to the bpf_sk_storage_get_tracing kernel helper which does check for null before using it. """ The commit 83fccfc3940c ("inet: fix potential deadlock in reqsk_queue_unlink()") added timer_pending() in reqsk_queue_unlink() not to call del_timer_sync() from reqsk_timer_handler(), but it introduced a small race window. Before the timer is called, expire_timers() calls detach_timer(timer, true) to clear timer->entry.pprev and marks it as not pending. If reqsk_queue_unlink() checks timer_pending() just after expire_timers() calls detach_timer(), TCP will miss del_timer_sync(); the reqsk timer will continue running and send multiple SYN+ACKs until it expires. The reported UAF could happen if req->sk is close()d earlier than the timer expiration, which is 63s by default. The scenario would be 1. inet_csk_complete_hashdance() calls inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop(), but del_timer_sync() is missed 2. reqsk timer is executed and scheduled again 3. req->sk is accept()ed and reqsk_put() decrements rsk_refcnt, but reqsk timer still has another one, and inet_csk_accept() does not clear req->sk for non-TFO sockets 4. sk is close()d 5. reqsk timer is executed again, and BPF touches req->sk Let's not use timer_pending() by passing the caller context to __inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop(). Note that reqsk timer is pinned, so the issue does not happen in most use cases. nfsd: fix race between laundromat and free_stateid

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfsd: fix race between laundromat and free_stateid There is a race between laundromat handling of revoked delegations and a client sending free_stateid operation. Laundromat thread finds that delegation has expired and needs to be revoked so it marks the delegation stid revoked and it puts it on a reaper list but then it unlock the state lock and the actual delegation revocation happens without the lock. Once the stid is marked revoked a racing free_stateid processing thread does the following (1) it calls list_del_init() which removes it from the reaper list and (2) frees the delegation stid structure. The laundromat thread ends up not calling the revoke_delegation() function for this particular delegation but that means it will no release the lock lease that exists on the file. Now, a new open for this file comes in and ends up finding that lease list isn't empty and calls nfsd_breaker_owns_lease() which ends up trying to derefence a freed delegation stateid. Leading to the followint use-after-free KASAN warning: kernel: ================================================================== kernel: BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in nfsd_breaker_owns_lease+0x140/0x160 [nfsd] kernel: Read of size 8 at addr ffff0000e73cd0c8 by task nfsd/6205 kernel: kernel: CPU: 2 UID: 0 PID: 6205 Comm: nfsd Kdump: loaded Not tainted 6.11.0-rc7+ #9 kernel: Hardware name: Apple Inc. First to make sure, that once the stid is marked revoked, it is not removed by the nfsd4_free_stateid(), the laundromat take a reference on the stateid. Then, coordinating whether the stid has been put on the cl_revoked list or we are processing FREE_STATEID and need to make sure to remove it from the list, each check that state and act accordingly. If laundromat has added to the cl_revoke list before the arrival of FREE_STATEID, then nfsd4_free_stateid() knows to remove it from the list. If nfsd4_free_stateid() finds that operations arrived before laundromat has placed it on cl_revoke list, it marks the state freed and then laundromat will no longer add it to the list. Also, for nfsd4_delegreturn() when looking for the specified stid, we need to access stid that are marked removed or freeable, it means the laundromat has started processing it but hasn't finished and this delegreturn needs to return nfserr_deleg_revoked and not nfserr_bad_stateid. The latter will not trigger a FREE_STATEID and the lack of it will leave this stid on the cl_revoked list indefinitely.

bpf, sockmap: Fix race between element replace and close()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf, sockmap: Fix race between element replace and close() Element replace (with a socket different from the one stored) may race with socket's close() link popping & unlinking. __sock_map_delete() unconditionally unrefs the (wrong) element: // set map[0] = s0 map_update_elem(map, 0, s0) // drop fd of s0 close(s0) sock_map_close() lock_sock(sk) (s0!) sock_map_remove_links(sk) link = sk_psock_link_pop() sock_map_unlink(sk, link) sock_map_delete_from_link // replace map[0] with s1 map_update_elem(map, 0, s1) sock_map_update_elem (s1!) lock_sock(sk) sock_map_update_common psock = sk_psock(sk) spin_lock(&stab->lock) osk = stab->sks[idx] sock_map_add_link(..., &stab->sks[idx]) sock_map_unref(osk, &stab->sks[idx]) psock = sk_psock(osk) sk_psock_put(sk, psock) if (refcount_dec_and_test(&psock)) sk_psock_drop(sk, psock) spin_unlock(&stab->lock) unlock_sock(sk) __sock_map_delete spin_lock(&stab->lock) sk = *psk // s1 replaced s0; sk == s1 if (!sk_test || sk_test == sk) // sk_test (s0) != sk (s1); no branch sk = xchg(psk, NULL) if (sk) sock_map_unref(sk, psk) // unref s1; sks[idx] will dangle psock = sk_psock(sk) sk_psock_put(sk, psock) if (refcount_dec_and_test()) sk_psock_drop(sk, psock) spin_unlock(&stab->lock) release_sock(sk) Then close(map) enqueues bpf_map_free_deferred, which finally calls sock_map_free(). This results in some refcount_t warnings along with a KASAN splat [1]. Fix __sock_map_delete(), do not allow sock_map_unref() on elements that may have been replaced. net: seeq: Fix use after free vulnerability in ether3 Driver Due to Race Condition

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: seeq: Fix use after free vulnerability in ether3 Driver Due to Race Condition In the ether3_probe function, a timer is initialized with a callback function ether3_ledoff, bound to &prev(dev)->timer. Once the timer is started, there is a risk of a race condition if the module or device is removed, triggering the ether3_remove function to perform cleanup. The sequence of operations that may lead to a UAF bug is as follows: CPU0 CPU1 | ether3_ledoff ether3_remove | free_netdev(dev); | put_devic | kfree(dev); | | ether3_outw(priv(dev)->regs.config2 |= CFG2_CTRLO, REG_CONFIG2); | // use dev Fix it by ensuring that the timer is canceled before proceeding with the cleanup in ether3_remove.

mptcp: pm: Fix uaf in __timer_delete_sync

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mptcp: pm: Fix uaf in __timer_delete_sync There are two paths to access mptcp_pm_del_add_timer, result in a race condition: CPU1 CPU2 ==== ==== net_rx_action napi_poll netlink_sendmsg __napi_poll netlink_unicast process_backlog netlink_unicast_kernel __netif_receive_skb genl_rcv __netif_receive_skb_one_core netlink_rcv_skb NF_HOOK genl_rcv_msg ip_local_deliver_finish genl_family_rcv_msg ip_protocol_deliver_rcu genl_family_rcv_msg_doit tcp_v4_rcv mptcp_pm_nl_flush_addrs_doit tcp_v4_do_rcv mptcp_nl_remove_addrs_list tcp_rcv_established mptcp_pm_remove_addrs_and_subflows tcp_data_queue remove_anno_list_by_saddr mptcp_incoming_options mptcp_pm_del_add_timer mptcp_pm_del_add_timer kfree(entry) In remove_anno_list_by_saddr(running on CPU2), after leaving the critical zone protected by "pm.lock", the entry will be released, which leads to the occurrence of uaf in the mptcp_pm_del_add_timer(running on CPU1). Keeping a reference to add_timer inside the lock, and calling sk_stop_timer_sync() with this reference, instead of "entry->add_timer". Move list_del(&entry->list) to mptcp_pm_del_add_timer and inside the pm lock, do not directly access any members of the entry outside the pm lock, which can avoid similar "entry->x" uaf.
