IRIS Alerts Can be Falsely Attributed to Customers

IRIS is a web collaborative platform that helps incident responders share technical details during investigations. In versions prior to 2.4.28, users can create alerts for customers that are not assigned to them. This can be abused to falsely attribute fake alerts to customers. In combination with Cross-Site Scripting, this can also be used to exfiltrate alerts from other customers. Version 2.4.28 contains a patch.

IRIS has an Insecure File Upload

IRIS is a web collaborative platform that helps incident responders share technical details during investigations. Versions prior to 2.4.28 do not properly validate uploaded files. The application can therefore be misused to host phishing pages, amongst other things. This also creates another instance of a Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability. Version 2.4.28 contains a patch.

Iris has an Improper Authorization issue

Iris is a web collaborative platform that helps incident responders share technical details during investigations. Prior to version 2.4.28, DFIR-IRIS exposes an optional GraphQL endpoint at `/graphql` that does not enforce the same authorization checks as the REST API. Any authenticated user can abuse it in three ways: unauthorized IOC read across cases (IDOR), bulk IOC disclosure via `case.iocs`. The `case(caseId: …).iocs` resolver returns IOCs linked to an arbitrary case without verifying the caller has access to that case, and unauthorized case creation. All three are reachable by any authenticated user, regardless of role or case ACL. This is fixed in v2.4.28. The GraphQL blueprint, resolvers, and dependencies (`graphene`, `graphene-sqlalchemy`, `graphql-server[flask]`) were removed entirely, since the feature was not in use. As a workaround, block `/graphql` at the reverse proxy (recommended) or comment out the `graphql_blueprint` import and `register_blueprint` call in `source/app/views.py` and restart.

Iris Allows Arbitrary File Deletion via Mass Assignment in Datastore File Management

Iris is a web collaborative platform that helps incident responders share technical details during investigations. Prior to 2.4.24, the DFIR-IRIS datastore file management system has a vulnerability where mass assignment of the file_local_name field combined with path trust in the delete operation enables authenticated users to delete arbitrary filesystem paths. The vulnerability manifests through a three-step attack chain: authenticated users upload a file to the datastore, update the file's file_local_name field to point to an arbitrary filesystem path through mass assignment, then trigger the delete operation which removes the target file without path validation. This vulnerability is fixed in 2.4.24.

iris-web vulnerable to Server Side Template Injection in reports

Iris is a web collaborative platform aiming to help incident responders sharing technical details during investigations. Due to an improper setup of Jinja2 environment, reports generation in `iris-web` is prone to a Server Side Template Injection (SSTI). Successful exploitation of the vulnerability can lead to an arbitrary Remote Code Execution. An authenticated administrator has to upload a crafted report template containing the payload. Upon generation of a report based on the weaponized report, any user can trigger the vulnerability. The vulnerability is patched in IRIS v2.4.6. No workaround is available. It is recommended to update as soon as possible. Until patching, review the report templates and keep the administrative privileges that include the upload of report templates limited to dedicated users.
