Sophos Web Appliance before 3.7.8.2 allows (1) remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in the client-ip parameter to the Block page, when using the user_workstation variable in a customized template, and remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in the (2) url parameter to the Diagnostic Tools functionality or (3) entries parameter to the Local Site List functionality.
The set_meta_data function in lib/cremefraiche.rb in the Creme Fraiche gem before 0.6.1 for Ruby allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in the file name of an email attachment. NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.
The NetWorker command processor in rrobotd.exe in the Device Manager in EMC AlphaStor 4.0 before build 800 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via a DCP "run command" operation.
The Cybozu KUNAI application before 2.0.6 for Android allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary Java methods, and obtain sensitive information or execute arbitrary commands, via a crafted web site.
An ActiveX control in KeyHelp.ocx in KeyWorks KeyHelp Module (aka the HTML Help component), as used in GE Intelligent Platforms Proficy Historian 3.1, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5; Proficy HMI/SCADA iFIX 5.0 and 5.1; Proficy Pulse 1.0; Proficy Batch Execution 5.6; SI7 I/O Driver 7.20 through 7.42; and other products, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via crafted input, related to a "command injection vulnerability."
A OS Command Injection vulnerability in the bootstrap stage of Bitdefender BOX 2 allows the manipulation of the `get_image_url()` function in special circumstances to inject a system command.
A flaw was found in WebSVN 2.3.2. Without prior authentication, if the 'allowDownload' option is enabled in config.php, an attacker can invoke the dl.php script and pass a well formed 'path' argument to execute arbitrary commands against the underlying operating system.
The W3 Total Cache WordPress plugin before 2.8.13 is vulnerable to command injection via the _parse_dynamic_mfunc function, allowing unauthenticated users to execute PHP commands by submitting a comment with a malicious payload to a post.
Argument injection vulnerability in the URI handler in (a) Java NPAPI plugin and (b) Java Deployment Toolkit in Java 6 Update 10, 19, and other versions, when running on Windows and possibly on Linux, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via the (1) -J or (2) -XXaltjvm argument to javaws.exe, which is processed by the launch method. NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.
vim 6.3 before 6.3.082, with modelines enabled, allows external user-assisted attackers to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in the (1) glob or (2) expand commands of a foldexpr expression for calculating fold levels.
A flaw was found with the libssh API function ssh_scp_new() in versions before 0.9.3 and before 0.8.8. When the libssh SCP client connects to a server, the scp command, which includes a user-provided path, is executed on the server-side. In case the library is used in a way where users can influence the third parameter of the function, it would become possible for an attacker to inject arbitrary commands, leading to a compromise of the remote target.
Arbitrary command execution is possible in Git before 2.20.2, 2.21.x before 2.21.1, 2.22.x before 2.22.2, 2.23.x before 2.23.1, and 2.24.x before 2.24.1 because a "git submodule update" operation can run commands found in the .gitmodules file of a malicious repository.
Ruby before 2.4.3 allows Net::FTP command injection. Net::FTP#get, getbinaryfile, gettextfile, put, putbinaryfile, and puttextfile use Kernel#open to open a local file. If the localfile argument starts with the "|" pipe character, the command following the pipe character is executed. The default value of localfile is File.basename(remotefile), so malicious FTP servers could cause arbitrary command execution.
A vulnerability in the Cisco Webex Teams client, formerly Cisco Spark, could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary commands on a targeted system. This vulnerability is due to unsafe search paths used by the application URI that is defined in Windows operating systems. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by convincing a targeted user to follow a malicious link. Successful exploitation could cause the application to load libraries from the directory targeted by the URI link. The attacker could use this behavior to execute arbitrary commands on the system with the privileges of the targeted user if the attacker can place a crafted library in a directory that is accessible to the vulnerable system.
getchar.c in Vim before 8.1.1365 and Neovim before 0.3.6 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands via the :source! command in a modeline, as demonstrated by execute in Vim, and assert_fails or nvim_input in Neovim.
Worldweaver DX Studio Player 3.0.29.0, 3.0.22.0, 3.0.12.0, and probably other versions before 3.0.29.1, when used as a plug-in for Firefox, does not restrict access to the shell.execute JavaScript API method, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via a .dxstudio file that invokes this method.
The system.openURL function in StoneTrip Ston3D StandalonePlayer (aka S3DPlayer StandAlone) 1.6.2.4 and 1.7.0.1 and WebPlayer (aka S3DPlayer Web) 1.6.0.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in the first argument (the sURL argument).
The Netrw plugin (netrw.vim) in Vim 7.0 and 7.1 allows user-assisted attackers to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in a filename used by the (1) "D" (delete) command or (2) b:netrw_curdir variable, as demonstrated using the netrw.v4 and netrw.v5 test cases.
The papd daemon in Netatalk before 2.0.4-beta2, when using certain variables in a pipe command for the print file, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in a print request, as demonstrated using a crafted Title.
pipenv is a Python development workflow tool. Starting with version 2018.10.9 and prior to version 2022.1.8, a flaw in pipenv's parsing of requirements files allows an attacker to insert a specially crafted string inside a comment anywhere within a requirements.txt file, which will cause victims who use pipenv to install the requirements file to download dependencies from a package index server controlled by the attacker. By embedding malicious code in packages served from their malicious index server, the attacker can trigger arbitrary remote code execution (RCE) on the victims' systems. If an attacker is able to hide a malicious `--index-url` option in a requirements file that a victim installs with pipenv, the attacker can embed arbitrary malicious code in packages served from their malicious index server that will be executed on the victim's host during installation (remote code execution/RCE). When pip installs from a source distribution, any code in the setup.py is executed by the install process. This issue is patched in version 2022.1.8. The GitHub Security Advisory contains more information about this vulnerability.
GNU patch through 2.7.6 is vulnerable to OS shell command injection that can be exploited by opening a crafted patch file that contains an ed style diff payload with shell metacharacters. The ed editor does not need to be present on the vulnerable system. This is different from CVE-2018-1000156.
In NETGEAR Nighthawk X10-R9000 prior to 1.0.4.26, an attacker may execute arbitrary system commands as root by sending a specially-crafted MAC address to the "NETGEAR Genie" SOAP endpoint at AdvancedQoS:GetCurrentBandwidthByMAC. Although this requires QoS being enabled, advanced QoS being enabled, and a valid authentication JWT, additional vulnerabilities (CVE-2019-12510) allow an attacker to interact with the entire SOAP API without authentication. Additionally, DNS rebinding techniques may be used to exploit this vulnerability remotely. Exploiting this vulnerability is somewhat involved. The following limitations apply to the payload and must be overcome for successful exploitation: - No more than 17 characters may be used. - At least one colon must be included to prevent mangling. - A single-quote and meta-character must be used to break out of the existing command. - Parent command remnants after the injection point must be dealt with. - The payload must be in all-caps. Despite these limitations, it is still possible to gain access to an interactive root shell via this vulnerability. Since the web server assigns certain HTTP headers to environment variables with all-caps names, it is possible to insert a payload into one such header and reference the subsequent environment variable in the injection point.
eBay Enhanced Picture Uploader ActiveX control (EPUWALcontrol.dll) before 1.0.27 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via the PictureUrls property.
An issue was discovered in ASUSTOR exFAT Driver through 1.0.0.r20. When conducting license validation, exfat.cgi and exfatctl fail to properly validate server responses and pass unsanitized text to the system shell, resulting in code execution as root.
Argument injection vulnerability in Apple QuickTime 7.2 for Windows XP SP2 and Vista allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via a URL in the qtnext field in a crafted QTL file. NOTE: this issue may be related to CVE-2006-4965 or CVE-2007-5045.
FreeScout is a self-hosted help desk and shared mailbox. Versions prior to 1.8.128 are vulnerable to OS Command Injection in the /public/tools.php source file. The value of the php_path parameter is being executed as an OS command by the shell_exec function, without validating it. This allows an adversary to execute malicious OS commands on the server. A practical demonstration of the successful command injection attack extracted the /etc/passwd file of the server. This represented the complete compromise of the server hosting the FreeScout application. This attack requires an attacker to know the `App_Key` of the application. This limitation makes the Attack Complexity to be High. If an attacker gets hold of the `App_Key`, the attacker can compromise the Complete server on which the application is deployed. Version 1.8.128 contains a patch for this issue.
Multiple vulnerabilities in Cisco Small Business RV160, RV260, RV340, and RV345 Series Routers could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on an affected device. For more information about these vulnerabilities, see the Details section of this advisory.
The affected On-Premise cnMaestro is vulnerable inside a specific route where a user can upload a crafted package to the system. An attacker could abuse this user-controlled data to execute arbitrary commands on the server.
For some Iomega, Lenovo, LenovoEMC NAS devices versions 4.1.402.34662 and earlier, when joining a PersonalCloud setup, an attacker can craft a command injection payload using backtick "``" characters in the client:password parameter. As a result, arbitrary commands may be executed as the root user. The attack requires a value __c and iomega parameter.
For some Iomega, Lenovo, LenovoEMC NAS devices versions 4.1.402.34662 and earlier, when changing the name of a share, an attacker can craft a command injection payload using backtick "``" characters in the name parameter. As a result, arbitrary commands may be executed as the root user. The attack requires a value __c and iomega parameter.

When running on Windows with enableCmdLineArguments enabled, the CGI Servlet in Apache Tomcat 9.0.0.M1 to 9.0.17, 8.5.0 to 8.5.39 and 7.0.0 to 7.0.93 is vulnerable to Remote Code Execution due to a bug in the way the JRE passes command line arguments to Windows. The CGI Servlet is disabled by default. The CGI option enableCmdLineArguments is disable by default in Tomcat 9.0.x (and will be disabled by default in all versions in response to this vulnerability). For a detailed explanation of the JRE behaviour, see Markus Wulftange's blog (https://codewhitesec.blogspot.com/2016/02/java-and-command-line-injections-in-windows.html) and this archived MSDN blog (https://web.archive.org/web/20161228144344/https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/twistylittlepassagesallalike/2011/04/23/everyone-quotes-command-line-arguments-the-wrong-way/).
The "go get" implementation in Go 1.9.4, when the -insecure command-line option is used, does not validate the import path (get/vcs.go only checks for "://" anywhere in the string), which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands via a crafted web site.
MariaDB server is a community developed fork of MySQL server. Versions 10.6.1 through 10.6.26, 10.11.1 through 10.11.17, 11.4.1 through 11.4.11, 11.8.1 through 11.8.7, and 12.3.1 with `wsrep_notify_cmd` enabled would execute shell commands embedded in the name of the joiner node. This is fixed in 10.6.27, 10.11.18, 11.4.12, 11.8.8, and 12.3.2. As a workaround, anyone who cannot upgrade now should disable `wsrep_notify_cmd`.
An exploitable code execution vulnerability exists in the connect functionality of ProtonVPN VPN client 1.5.1. A specially crafted configuration file can cause a privilege escalation, resulting in the ability to execute arbitrary commands with the system's privileges.
An OS command injection vulnerability has been reported to affect several QNAP operating system versions. If exploited, the vulnerability could allow users to execute commands via a network. We have already fixed the vulnerability in the following versions: QTS 5.1.4.2596 build 20231128 and later QTS 4.5.4.2627 build 20231225 and later QuTS hero h5.1.4.2596 build 20231128 and later QuTS hero h4.5.4.2626 build 20231225 and later QuTScloud c5.1.5.2651 and later
A flaw was found in the Samba printing subsystem. Samba passes the client-controlled job description string to the command configured with the "print command" setting via the "%J" substitution character without escaping shell meta characters. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a specially crafted print job description that contains unescaped shell characters. This could lead to remote code execution on the affected system.
A flaw was found in Samba. A remote attacker can exploit a misconfiguration in Samba file servers and classic domain controllers that use the "check password script" feature. If this script is configured with the %u substitution character, the client-controlled username is passed without proper escaping of shell meta-characters. This vulnerability allows an attacker to achieve remote command execution on the affected system. This issue primarily affects non-standard configurations where the "check password script" is used with %u and the samba-dcerpcd service is started as a system service.
do_ed_script in pch.c in GNU patch through 2.7.6 does not block strings beginning with a ! character. NOTE: this is the same commit as for CVE-2019-13638, but the ! syntax is specific to ed, and is unrelated to a shell metacharacter.
In yast2-printer up to and including version 4.0.2 the SMB printer settings don't escape characters in passwords properly. If a password with backticks or simliar characters is supplied this allows for executing code as root. This requires tricking root to enter such a password in yast.
The remote upgrade feature in Guardzilla GZ180 devices allow command injection via a crafted new firmware version parameter.
A command injection vulnerability in the setup API in the Neato Botvac Connected 2.2.0 allows network attackers to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in the ntp field within JSON data to the /robot/initialize endpoint.
Budibase is an open-source low-code platform. Prior to version 3.33.4, an unauthenticated attacker can achieve Remote Code Execution (RCE) on the Budibase server by triggering an automation that contains a Bash step via the public webhook endpoint. No authentication is required to trigger the exploit. The process executes as root inside the container. This issue has been patched in version 3.33.4.
Linksys Velop 1.1.2.187020 devices allow unauthenticated command injection, providing an attacker with full root access, via cgi-bin/zbtest.cgi or cgi-bin/zbtest2.cgi (scripts that can be discovered with binwalk on the firmware, but are not visible in the web interface). This occurs because shell metacharacters in the query string are mishandled by ShellExecute, as demonstrated by the zbtest.cgi?cmd=level&level= substring. This can also be exploited via CSRF.
It was found that RHSA-2018:2918 did not fully fix CVE-2018-16509. An attacker could possibly exploit another variant of the flaw and bypass the -dSAFER protection to, for example, execute arbitrary shell commands via a specially crafted PostScript document. This only affects ghostscript 9.07 as shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.
The Logitech Harmony Hub before version 4.15.206 is vulnerable to OS command injection via the time update request. A remote server or man in the middle can inject OS commands with a properly formatted response.
phpFileManager 0.9.8 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via a crafted URL.
A shell escape vulnerability in /webconsole/APIController in the API Configuration component of Sophos XG firewall 17.0.8 MR-8 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands via shell metachracters in the "X-Forwarded-for" HTTP header.
Okta Advanced Server Access Client for Linux and macOS prior to version 1.58.0 was found to be vulnerable to command injection via a specially crafted URL. An attacker, who has knowledge of a valid team name for the victim and also knows a valid target host where the user has access, can execute commands on the local system.
Certain Anaconda3 2021.05 are affected by OS command injection. When a user installs Anaconda, an attacker can create a new file and write something in usercustomize.py. When the user opens the terminal or activates Anaconda, the command will be executed.
