If an attacker were to exploit this, they could act as a man-in-the-middle and eavesdrop on encrypted communications.
IBM Concert Software 1.0.0 through 1.1.0 could allow a remote attacker to perform unauthorized actions using man in the middle techniques due to improper certificate validation.
The libcurl CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER option was disabled on a subset of requests made by Nest production devices which enabled a potential man-in-the-middle attack on requests to Google cloud services by any host the traffic was routed through.
In GNOME libgfbgraph through 0.2.4, gfbgraph-photo.c does not enable TLS certificate verification on the SoupSessionSync objects it creates, leaving users vulnerable to network MITM attacks. NOTE: this is similar to CVE-2016-20011.
In GNOME libzapojit through 0.0.3, zpj-skydrive.c does not enable TLS certificate verification on the SoupSessionSync objects it creates, leaving users vulnerable to network MITM attacks. NOTE: this is similar to CVE-2016-20011.
In GNOME libgda through 6.0.0, gda-web-provider.c does not enable TLS certificate verification on the SoupSessionSync objects it creates, leaving users vulnerable to network MITM attacks. NOTE: this is similar to CVE-2016-20011.
In GNOME evolution-rss through 0.3.96, network-soup.c does not enable TLS certificate verification on the SoupSessionSync objects it creates, leaving users vulnerable to network MITM attacks. NOTE: this is similar to CVE-2016-20011.

Cyberduck before 4.4.4 on Windows does not properly validate X.509 certificate chains, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof FTP-SSL servers via a certificate issued by an arbitrary root Certification Authority.
Versions of Motorola Ready For and Motorola Device Help Android applications prior to 2021-04-08 do not properly verify the server certificate which could lead to the communication channel being accessible by an attacker.
A vulnerability in Cisco Webex Meetings Mobile (iOS) could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to gain unauthorized read access to sensitive data by using an invalid Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate. The vulnerability is due to insufficient SSL certificate validation by the affected software. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by supplying a crafted SSL certificate to an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to conduct man-in-the-middle attacks to decrypt confidential information on user connections to the affected software.
DefaultHostnameVerifier in Ldaptive (formerly vt-ldap) does not properly verify that the server hostname matches a domain name in the subject's Common Name (CN) field of the X.509 certificate, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof SSL servers via an arbitrary valid certificate.
An issue was discovered in Prosody before 0.11.9. The undocumented dialback_without_dialback option in mod_dialback enables an experimental feature for server-to-server authentication. It does not correctly authenticate remote server certificates, allowing a remote server to impersonate another server (when this option is enabled).
Polycom VVX 500 and 601 devices 5.8.0.12848 and earlier allows man-in-the-middle attackers to obtain sensitive credential information by leveraging failure to validate X.509 certificates when used with an on-premise installation with Skype for Business.
ovirt-engine, as used in Red Hat MRG 3, allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof servers by leveraging failure to verify key attributes in vdsm X.509 certificates.
light-oauth2 before version 2.1.27 obtains the public key without any verification. This could allow attackers to authenticate to the application with a crafted JWT token.
Using the ability to perform a Man-in-the-Middle (MITM) attack, which indicates a lack of hostname verification, sensitive account information was able to be intercepted. In this specific scenario, the application's network traffic was intercepted using a proxy server set up in 'transparent' mode while a certificate with an invalid hostname was active. The Android application was found to have hostname verification issues during the server setup and login flows; however, the application did not process requests post-login.
An issue was discovered in Pidgin before 2.14.9. A remote attacker who can spoof DNS responses can redirect a client connection to a malicious server. The client will perform TLS certificate verification of the malicious domain name instead of the original XMPP service domain, allowing the attacker to take over control over the XMPP connection and to obtain user credentials and all communication content. This is similar to CVE-2022-24968.
