In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ceph: fix deadlock or deadcode of misusing dget() The lock order is incorrect between denty and its parent, we should always make sure that the parent get the lock first. But since this deadcode is never used and the parent dir will always be set from the callers, let's just remove it.

sockmap, vsock: For connectible sockets allow only connected

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sockmap, vsock: For connectible sockets allow only connected sockmap expects all vsocks to have a transport assigned, which is expressed in vsock_proto::psock_update_sk_prot(). However, there is an edge case where an unconnected (connectible) socket may lose its previously assigned transport. This is handled with a NULL check in the vsock/BPF recv path. Another design detail is that listening vsocks are not supposed to have any transport assigned at all. Which implies they are not supported by the sockmap. But this is complicated by the fact that a socket, before switching to TCP_LISTEN, may have had some transport assigned during a failed connect() attempt. It maintains state of the event (is it enabled for the given instance?). Opening the "enable" file gets a reference to the event "file" descriptor via the open file descriptor. When the kprobe event is deleted, the file is also deleted from the tracefs system which also frees the event "file" descriptor. But as the tracefs file is still opened by user space, it will not be totally removed until the final dput() is called on it. But this is not true with the event "file" descriptor that is already freed. If the user does a write to or simply closes the file descriptor it will reference the event "file" descriptor that was just freed, causing a use-after-free bug. To solve this, add a ref count to the event "file" descriptor as well as a new flag called "FREED". The "file" will not be freed until the last reference is released. But the FREE flag will be set when the event is removed to prevent any more modifications to that event from happening, even if there's still a reference to the event "file" descriptor.

[How] For functions that execute within a DC context or DC lock we can wrap the direct calls to dm_execute_dmub_cmd/list with code that exits idle power optimizations and reallows once we're done with the command submission on success. For DM direct submissions the DM will need to manage the enter/exit sequencing manually. We cannot invoke a DMCUB command directly within the DM execution helper or we can deadlock.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipv4, ipv6: Fix handling of transhdrlen in __ip{,6}_append_data() Including the transhdrlen in length is a problem when the packet is partially filled (e.g. something like send(MSG_MORE) happened previously) when appending to an IPv4 or IPv6 packet as we don't want to repeat the transport header or account for it twice. This can happen under some circumstances, such as splicing into an L2TP socket. The symptom observed is a warning in __ip6_append_data(): WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 5042 at net/ipv6/ip6_output.c:1800 __ip6_append_data.isra.0+0x1be8/0x47f0 net/ipv6/ip6_output.c:1800 that occurs when MSG_SPLICE_PAGES is used to append more data to an already partially occupied skbuff. The warning occurs when 'copy' is larger than the amount of data in the message iterator. This is because the requested length includes the transport header length when it shouldn't. This can be triggered by, for example: sfd = socket(AF_INET6, SOCK_DGRAM, IPPROTO_L2TP); bind(sfd, ...); // ::1 connect(sfd, ...); // ::1 port 7 send(sfd, buffer, 4100, MSG_MORE); sendfile(sfd, dfd, NULL, 1024); Fix this by only adding transhdrlen into the length if the write queue is empty in l2tp_ip6_sendmsg(), analogously to how UDP does things. l2tp_ip_sendmsg() looks like it won't suffer from this problem as it builds the UDP packet itself.

btrfs: remove BUG() after failure to insert delayed dir index item

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: btrfs: remove BUG() after failure to insert delayed dir index item Instead of calling BUG() when we fail to insert a delayed dir index item into the delayed node's tree, we can just release all the resources we have allocated/acquired before and return the error to the caller. This is fine because all existing call chains undo anything they have done before calling btrfs_insert_delayed_dir_index() or BUG_ON (when creating pending snapshots in the transaction commit path). So remove the BUG() call and do proper error handling. This relates to a syzbot report linked below, but does not fix it because it only prevents hitting a BUG(), it does not fix the issue where somehow we attempt to use twice the same index number for different index items.

scsi: ibmvfc: Remove BUG_ON in the case of an empty event pool

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: ibmvfc: Remove BUG_ON in the case of an empty event pool In practice the driver should never send more commands than are allocated to a queue's event pool. In the unlikely event that this happens, the code asserts a BUG_ON, and in the case that the kernel is not configured to crash on panic returns a junk event pointer from the empty event list causing things to spiral from there. This BUG_ON is a historical artifact of the ibmvfc driver first being upstreamed, and it is well known now that the use of BUG_ON is bad practice except in the most unrecoverable scenario. There is nothing about this scenario that prevents the driver from recovering and carrying on. Remove the BUG_ON in question from ibmvfc_get_event() and return a NULL pointer in the case of an empty event pool. Update all call sites to ibmvfc_get_event() to check for a NULL pointer and perfrom the appropriate failure or recovery action.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm: Don't unref the same fb many times by mistake due to deadlock handling If we get a deadlock after the fb lookup in drm_mode_page_flip_ioctl() we proceed to unref the fb and then retry the whole thing from the top. But we forget to reset the fb pointer back to NULL, and so if we then get another error during the retry, before the fb lookup, we proceed the unref the same fb again without having gotten another reference. The end result is that the fb will (eventually) end up being freed while it's still in use. Reset fb to NULL once we've unreffed it to avoid doing it again until we've done another fb lookup. This turned out to be pretty easy to hit on a DG2 when doing async flips (and CONFIG_DEBUG_WW_MUTEX_SLOWPATH=y). The first symptom I saw that drm_closefb() simply got stuck in a busy loop while walking the framebuffer list. Fortunately I was able to convince it to oops instead, and from there it was easier to track down the culprit.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iio: adc: ad7091r: Allow users to configure device events AD7091R-5 devices are supported by the ad7091r-5 driver together with the ad7091r-base driver. Those drivers declared iio events for notifying user space when ADC readings fall bellow the thresholds of low limit registers or above the values set in high limit registers. However, to configure iio events and their thresholds, a set of callback functions must be implemented and those were not present until now. The consequence of trying to configure ad7091r-5 events without the proper callback functions was a null pointer dereference in the kernel because the pointers to the callback functions were not set. Implement event configuration callbacks allowing users to read/write event thresholds and enable/disable event generation. Since the event spec structs are generic to AD7091R devices, also move those from the ad7091r-5 driver the base driver so they can be reused when support for ad7091r-2/-4/-8 be added.

If the vsyscall is interrupted (NMI) for perf sampling, this call sequence can occur (most recent at top): __insn_get_emulate_prefix() insn_get_emulate_prefix() insn_get_prefixes() insn_get_opcode() decode_branch_type() get_branch_type() intel_pmu_lbr_filter() intel_pmu_handle_irq() perf_event_nmi_handler() Within __insn_get_emulate_prefix() at frame 0, a macro is called: peek_nbyte_next(insn_byte_t, insn, i) Within this macro, this dereference occurs: (insn)->next_byte Inspecting registers at this point, the value of the next_byte field is the address of the vsyscall made, for example the location of the vsyscall version of gettimeofday() at 0xffffffffff600000. The access to an address in the vsyscall region will trigger an oops due to an unhandled page fault. To fix the bug, filtering for vsyscalls can be done when determining the branch type. This patch will return a "none" branch if a kernel address if found to lie in the vsyscall region.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: fix NULL pointer in skb_segment_list Commit 3a1296a38d0c ("net: Support GRO/GSO fraglist chaining.") introduced UDP listifyed GRO. The segmentation relies on frag_list being untouched when passing through the network stack. This assumption can be broken sometimes, where frag_list itself gets pulled into linear area, leaving frag_list being NULL. The solution for the gluebi module is to run jffs2 on the UBI volume without considering working with ftl or mtdblock [2]. Therefore, this problem can be avoided by preventing gluebi from creating the mtdblock device after creating mtd partition of the type MTD_UBIVOLUME.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipv6: Fix memleak of nhc_pcpu_rth_output in fib_check_nh_v6_gw(). fib_check_nh_v6_gw() expects that fib6_nh_init() cleans up everything when it fails. Commit 7dd73168e273 ("ipv6: Always allocate pcpu memory in a fib6_nh") moved fib_nh_common_init() before alloc_percpu_gfp() within fib6_nh_init() but forgot to add cleanup for fib6_nh->nh_common.nhc_pcpu_rth_output in case it fails to allocate fib6_nh->rt6i_pcpu, resulting in memleak. Let's call fib_nh_common_release() and clear nhc_pcpu_rth_output in the error path. Note that we can remove the fib6_nh_release() call in nh_create_ipv6() later in net-next.git.
