Unauthenticated writes to the media repository allow planting of problematic content in Matrix Media Repo

Matrix Media Repo (MMR) is a highly configurable multi-homeserver media repository for Matrix. MMR before version 1.3.5 allows, by design, unauthenticated remote participants to trigger a download and caching of remote media from a remote homeserver to the local media repository. Such content then also becomes available for download from the local homeserver in an unauthenticated way. The implication is that unauthenticated remote adversaries can use this functionality to plant problematic content into the media repository. MMR 1.3.5 introduces a partial mitigation in the form of new endpoints which require authentication for media downloads. The unauthenticated endpoints will be frozen in a future release, closing the attack vector. Though extremely limited, server operators can use more strict rate limits based on IP address as a partial workaround.

Denial of service through memory exhaustion in Matrix Media Repo

Matrix Media Repo (MMR) is a highly configurable multi-homeserver media repository for Matrix. MMR makes requests to other servers as part of normal operation, and these resource owners can return large amounts of JSON back to MMR for parsing. In parsing, MMR can consume large amounts of memory and exhaust available memory. This is fixed in MMR v1.3.8. Users are advised to upgrade. For users unable to upgrade; forward proxies can be configured to block requests to unsafe hosts. Alternatively, MMR processes can be configured with memory limits and auto-restart. Running multiple MMR processes concurrently can help ensure a restart does not overly impact users.

Denial of service/high operating costs through unauthenticated downloads in Matrix Media Repo

Matrix Media Repo (MMR) is a highly configurable multi-homeserver media repository for Matrix. MMR before version 1.3.5 is vulnerable to unbounded disk consumption, where an unauthenticated adversary can induce it to download and cache large amounts of remote media files. MMR's typical operating environment uses S3-like storage as a backend, with file-backed store as an alternative option. Instances using a file-backed store or those which self-host an S3 storage system are therefore vulnerable to a disk fill attack. Once the disk is full, authenticated users will be unable to upload new media, resulting in denial of service. For instances configured to use a cloud-based S3 storage option, this could result in high service fees instead of a denial of service. MMR 1.3.5 introduces a new default-on "leaky bucket" rate limit to reduce the amount of data a user can request at a time. This does not fully address the issue, but does limit an unauthenticated user's ability to request large amounts of data. Operators should note that the leaky bucket implementation introduced in MMR 1.3.5 requires the IP address associated with the request to be forwarded, to avoid mistakenly applying the rate limit to the reverse proxy instead. To avoid this issue, the reverse proxy should populate the X-Forwarded-For header when sending the request to MMR. Operators who cannot update may wish to lower the maximum file size they allow and implement harsh rate limits, though this can still lead to a large amount of data to be downloaded.

AES-SIV implementation ignores empty associated data entries

Issue summary: The AES-SIV cipher implementation contains a bug that causes it to ignore empty associated data entries which are unauthenticated as a consequence. Impact summary: Applications that use the AES-SIV algorithm and want to authenticate empty data entries as associated data can be misled by removing, adding or reordering such empty entries as these are ignored by the OpenSSL implementation. We are currently unaware of any such applications. The AES-SIV algorithm allows for authentication of multiple associated data entries along with the encryption. To authenticate empty data the application has to call EVP_EncryptUpdate() (or EVP_CipherUpdate()) with NULL pointer as the output buffer and 0 as the input buffer length. The AES-SIV implementation in OpenSSL just returns success for such a call instead of performing the associated data authentication operation. The empty data thus will not be authenticated. As this issue does not affect non-empty associated data authentication and we expect it to be rare for an application to use empty associated data entries this is qualified as Low severity issue.

Cisco Firepower Threat Defense Software Nonstandard Protocol Detection Bypass Vulnerability

A vulnerability in the protocol detection component of Cisco Firepower Threat Defense Software, Cisco FirePOWER Services Software for ASA, and Cisco Firepower Management Center Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to bypass filtering protections. The vulnerability is due to improper detection of the initial use of a protocol on a nonstandard port. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending traffic on a nonstandard port for the protocol in use through an affected device. An exploit could allow the attacker to bypass filtering and deliver malicious requests to protected systems that would otherwise be blocked. Once the initial protocol flow on the nonstandard port is detected, future flows on the nonstandard port will be successfully detected and handled as configured by the applied policy.

This vulnerability in the Snyk Kubernetes Monitor can result in irrelevant data being posted to a Snyk Organization, which could in turn obfuscate other, relevant, security issues. It does not expose the user of the integration to any direct security risk and no user data can be leaked. To exploit the vulnerability the attacker does not need to be authenticated to Snyk but does need to know the target's Integration ID (which may or may not be the same as the Organization ID, although this is an unpredictable UUID in either case).

matrix-android-sdk2 vulnerable to impersonation via forwarded Megolm sessions

matrix-android-sdk2 is the Matrix SDK for Android. Prior to version 1.5.1, an attacker cooperating with a malicious homeserver can construct messages appearing to have come from another person. Such messages will be marked with a grey shield on some platforms, but this may be missing in others. This attack is possible due to the key forwarding strategy implemented in the matrix-android-sdk2 that is too permissive. Starting with version 1.5.1, the default policy for accepting key forwards has been made more strict in the matrix-android-sdk2. The matrix-android-sdk2 will now only accept forwarded keys in response to previously issued requests and only from own, verified devices. The SDK now sets a `trusted` flag on the decrypted message upon decryption, based on whether the key used to decrypt the message was received from a trusted source. Clients need to ensure that messages decrypted with a key with `trusted = false` are decorated appropriately (for example, by showing a warning for such messages). As a workaroubnd, current users of the SDK can disable key forwarding in their forks using `CryptoService#enableKeyGossiping(enable: Boolean)`.

Skupper: potential authentication bypass to skupper console via forged cookies

A flaw was found in Skupper. When Skupper is initialized with the console-enabled and with console-auth set to Openshift, it configures the openshift oauth-proxy with a static cookie-secret. FreeSWITCH: Pre-authentication session eviction via attacker-chosen `sessid` in `mod_verto`

FreeSWITCH is a Software Defined Telecom Stack enabling the digital transformation from proprietary telecom switches to a software implementation that runs on any commodity hardware. Prior to version 1.11.1, mod_verto's JSON-RPC handler bound the connection to the client-supplied sessid on the first frame, before the authentication gate. Binding inserts the connection into the global session hash and, on a key collision, drops the prior occupant of that slot — sending it a verto.punt, detaching its calls, and closing its socket. An unauthenticated network attacker who knows a target session UUID could therefore evict the legitimate client. This issue has been patched in version 1.11.1.

russh server userauth state is not reset when authentication principal changes

Russh is a Rust SSH client & server library. From version 0.34.0-beta.1 to before version 0.61.0, the russh server authentication path keeps internal userauth state across SSH_MSG_USERAUTH_REQUEST messages without separating that state when the request principal changes. RFC 4252 allows the user name and service name fields to change between authentication requests. The issue is not that such changes are invalid. The issue is that russh-owned authentication state, such as remaining methods, partial-success state, and in-progress method state, can remain associated with the connection and then influence a later request for a different (user, service). This is an internal library state mismatch. This issue has been patched in version 0.61.0.

Customer Reviews for WooCommerce <= 5.103.0 - Unauthenticated Authentication Bypass to Arbitrary Review Submission via 'key' Parameter

The Customer Reviews for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to authentication bypass in all versions up to, and including, 5.103.0. This is due to the `create_review_permissions_check()` function comparing the user-supplied `key` parameter against the order's `ivole_secret_key` meta value using strict equality (`===`), without verifying that the stored key is non-empty. For orders where no review reminder email has been sent, the `ivole_secret_key` meta is not set, causing `get_meta()` to return an empty string. An attacker can supply `key: ""` to match this empty value and bypass the permission check. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to submit, modify, and inject product reviews on any product — including products not associated with the referenced order — via the REST API endpoint `POST /ivole/v1/review`. Reviews are auto-approved by default since `ivole_enable_moderation` defaults to `"no"`.

Open edX Platform: Account Activation Bypass via activation_key Exposure in REST API

Open edX Platform enables the authoring and delivery of online learning at any scale. From the maple release to before the ulmo release, an unauthenticated attacker can fully bypass the email verification process by combining two issues: the OAuth2 password grant issuing tokens to inactive users (documented behavior) and the activation_key being exposed in the REST API response at /api/user/v1/accounts/. This issue has been patched in the ulmo release.

Cisco Identity Services Engine Authentication Bypass Vulnerability

A vulnerability in the login page of Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to log in without credentials and access all roles without any restrictions. This vulnerability is due to exposed sensitive Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) metadata. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by using the exposed SAML metadata to bypass authentication to the user portal. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to access all roles without any restrictions.

Parse Server affected by empty authData bypassing credential requirement on signup

Parse Server is an open source backend that can be deployed to any infrastructure that can run Node.js. Prior to 9.6.0-alpha.29 and 8.6.49, a user can sign up without providing credentials by sending an empty `authData` object, bypassing the username and password requirement. This allows the creation of authenticated sessions without proper credentials, even when anonymous users are disabled. The fix in 9.6.0-alpha.29 and 8.6.49 ensures that empty or non-actionable `authData` is treated the same as absent `authData` for the purpose of credential validation on new user creation. Username and password are now required when no valid auth provider data is present. As a workaround, use a Cloud Code `beforeSave` trigger on the `_User` class to reject signups where `authData` is empty and no username/password is provided.

Talishar: Authentication Bypass via Empty authKey Parameter Allows Unauthenticated Game Actions

Talishar is a fan-made Flesh and Blood project. Prior to commit a9c218e, an authentication bypass vulnerability in Talishar's game endpoint validation logic allows any unauthenticated attacker to perform authenticated game actions — including sending chat messages and submitting game inputs — by supplying an empty authKey parameter (authKey=). The server-side validation uses a loose comparison that accepts an empty string as a valid credential, while correctly rejecting non-empty but incorrect keys. This asymmetry means the authentication mechanism can be completely bypassed without knowing any valid token. This issue has been patched in commit a9c218e.

SALESmanago <= 3.2.4 - Log Injection via Weak Authentication Token

The SALESmanago plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Log Injection in versions up to, and including, 3.2.4. This is due to the use of a weak authentication token for the /wp-json/salesmanago/v1/callbackApiV3 API endpoint which is simply a SHA1 hash of the site URL and client ID found in the page source of the website. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary content into the log files, and when combined with another vulnerability this could have significant consequences.

EvseV2G has sequence state validation bypass

EVerest is an EV charging software stack. In versions up to and including 2025.12.1, it is possible to bypass the sequence state verification including authentication, and send requests that transition to forbidden states relative to the current one, thereby updating the current context with illegitimate data.cThanks to the modular design of EVerest, authorization is handled in a separate module and EVSEManager Charger internal state machine cannot transition out of the `WaitingForAuthentication` state through ISO 15118-2 communication. From this state, it was however possible through ISO 15118-2 messages which are published to the MQTT server to trick it into preparing to charge, and even to prepare to send current. The final requirement to actually send current to the EV was the closure of the contactors, which does not appear to be possible without leaving the `WaitingForAuthentication` state and leveraging ISO 15118-2 messages. As of time of publication, no fixed versions are available.
