libceph: return the handler error from mon_handle_auth_done()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: libceph: return the handler error from mon_handle_auth_done() Currently any error from ceph_auth_handle_reply_done() is propagated via finish_auth() but isn't returned from mon_handle_auth_done(). This results in higher layers learning that (despite the monitor considering us to be successfully authenticated) something went wrong in the authentication phase and reacting accordingly, but msgr2 still trying to proceed with establishing the session in the background. In the case of secure mode this can trigger a WARN in setup_crypto() and later lead to a NULL pointer dereference inside of prepare_auth_signature().

firmware: arm_scmi: Fix list protocols enumeration in the base protocol

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: firmware: arm_scmi: Fix list protocols enumeration in the base protocol While enumerating protocols implemented by the SCMI platform using BASE_DISCOVER_LIST_PROTOCOLS, the number of returned protocols is currently validated in an improper way since the check employs a sum between unsigned integers that could overflow and cause the check itself to be silently bypassed if the returned value 'loop_num_ret' is big enough. Fix the validation avoiding the addition.

igb: Do not bring the device up after non-fatal error

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: igb: Do not bring the device up after non-fatal error Commit 004d25060c78 ("igb: Fix igb_down hung on surprise removal") changed igb_io_error_detected() to ignore non-fatal pcie errors in order to avoid hung task that can happen when igb_down() is called multiple times. This caused an issue when processing transient non-fatal errors. igb_io_resume(), which is called after igb_io_error_detected(), assumes that device is brought down by igb_io_error_detected() if the interface is up. nilfs2: fix deadlock in nilfs_count_free_blocks()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nilfs2: fix deadlock in nilfs_count_free_blocks() A semaphore deadlock can occur if nilfs_get_block() detects metadata corruption while locating data blocks and a superblock writeback occurs at the same time: task 1 task 2 ------ ------ * A file operation * nilfs_truncate() nilfs_get_block() down_read(rwsem A) <-- nilfs_bmap_lookup_contig() ... generic_shutdown_super() nilfs_put_super() * Prepare to write superblock * down_write(rwsem B) <-- nilfs_cleanup_super() * Detect b-tree corruption * nilfs_set_log_cursor() nilfs_bmap_convert_error() nilfs_count_free_blocks() __nilfs_error() down_read(rwsem A) <-- nilfs_set_error() down_write(rwsem B) <-- *** DEADLOCK *** Here, nilfs_get_block() readlocks rwsem A (= NILFS_MDT(dat_inode)->mi_sem) and then calls nilfs_bmap_lookup_contig(), but if it fails due to metadata corruption, __nilfs_error() is called from nilfs_bmap_convert_error() inside the lock section. Since __nilfs_error() calls nilfs_set_error() unless the filesystem is read-only and nilfs_set_error() attempts to writelock rwsem B (= nilfs->ns_sem) to write back superblock exclusively, hierarchical lock acquisition occurs in the order rwsem A -> rwsem B. Now, if another task starts updating the superblock, it may writelock rwsem B during the lock sequence above, and can deadlock trying to readlock rwsem A in nilfs_count_free_blocks(). However, there is actually no need to take rwsem A in nilfs_count_free_blocks() because it, within the lock section, only reads a single integer data on a shared struct with nilfs_sufile_get_ncleansegs(). This has been the case after commit aa474a220180 ("nilfs2: add local variable to cache the number of clean segments"), that is, even before this bug was introduced. So, this resolves the deadlock problem by just not taking the semaphore in nilfs_count_free_blocks().

crypto: ccp - Use kzalloc for sev ioctl interfaces to prevent kernel memory leak

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: ccp - Use kzalloc for sev ioctl interfaces to prevent kernel memory leak For some sev ioctl interfaces, input may be passed that is less than or equal to SEV_FW_BLOB_MAX_SIZE, but larger than the data that PSP firmware returns. In this case, kmalloc will allocate memory that is the size of the input rather than the size of the data. Since PSP firmware doesn't fully overwrite the buffer, the sev ioctl interfaces with the issue may return uninitialized slab memory. Currently, all of the ioctl interfaces in the ccp driver are safe, but to prevent future problems, change all ioctl interfaces that allocate memory with kmalloc to use kzalloc and memset the data buffer to zero in sev_ioctl_do_platform_status.

posix-clock: Fix missing timespec64 check in pc_clock_settime()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: posix-clock: Fix missing timespec64 check in pc_clock_settime() As Andrew pointed out, it will make sense that the PTP core checked timespec64 struct's tv_sec and tv_nsec range before calling ptp->info->settime64(). As the man manual of clock_settime() said, if tp.tv_sec is negative or tp.tv_nsec is outside the range [0..999,999,999], it should return EINVAL, which include dynamic clocks which handles PTP clock, and the condition is consistent with timespec64_valid(). As Thomas suggested, timespec64_valid() only check the timespec is valid, but not ensure that the time is in a valid range, so check it ahead using timespec64_valid_strict() in pc_clock_settime() and return -EINVAL if not valid. There are some drivers that use tp->tv_sec and tp->tv_nsec directly to write registers without validity checks and assume that the higher layer has checked it, which is dangerous and will benefit from this, such as hclge_ptp_settime(), igb_ptp_settime_i210(), _rcar_gen4_ptp_settime(), and some drivers can remove the checks of itself.

net: fec: remove .ndo_poll_controller to avoid deadlocks

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: fec: remove .ndo_poll_controller to avoid deadlocks There is a deadlock issue found in sungem driver, please refer to the commit ac0a230f719b ("eth: sungem: remove .ndo_poll_controller to avoid deadlocks"). The root cause of the issue is that netpoll is in atomic context and disable_irq() is called by .ndo_poll_controller interface of sungem driver, however, disable_irq() might sleep. After analyzing the implementation of fec_poll_controller(), the fec driver should have the same issue. Due to the fec driver uses NAPI for TX completions, the .ndo_poll_controller is unnecessary to be implemented in the fec driver, so fec_poll_controller() can be safely removed.

md/raid5: fix deadlock that raid5d() wait for itself to clear MD_SB_CHANGE_PENDING

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: md/raid5: fix deadlock that raid5d() wait for itself to clear MD_SB_CHANGE_PENDING Xiao reported that lvm2 test lvconvert-raid-takeover.sh can hang with small possibility, the root cause is exactly the same as commit bed9e27baf52 ("Revert "md/raid5: Wait for MD_SB_CHANGE_PENDING in raid5d"") However, Dan reported another hang after that, and junxiao investigated the problem and found out that this is caused by plugged bio can't issue from raid5d(). Current implementation in raid5d() has a weird dependence: 1) md_check_recovery() from raid5d() must hold 'reconfig_mutex' to clear MD_SB_CHANGE_PENDING; 2) raid5d() handles IO in a deadloop, until all IO are issued; 3) IO from raid5d() must wait for MD_SB_CHANGE_PENDING to be cleared; This behaviour is introduce before v2.6, and for consequence, if other context hold 'reconfig_mutex', and md_check_recovery() can't update super_block, then raid5d() will waste one cpu 100% by the deadloop, until 'reconfig_mutex' is released. Refer to the implementation from raid1 and raid10, fix this problem by skipping issue IO if MD_SB_CHANGE_PENDING is still set after md_check_recovery(), daemon thread will be woken up when 'reconfig_mutex' is released. Meanwhile, the hang problem will be fixed as well.

powerpc/rtas: Keep MSR[RI] set when calling RTAS

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: powerpc/rtas: Keep MSR[RI] set when calling RTAS RTAS runs in real mode (MSR[DR] and MSR[IR] unset) and in 32-bit big endian mode (MSR[SF,LE] unset). x86/fpu: KVM: Set the base guest FPU uABI size to sizeof(struct kvm_xsave)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: x86/fpu: KVM: Set the base guest FPU uABI size to sizeof(struct kvm_xsave) Set the starting uABI size of KVM's guest FPU to 'struct kvm_xsave', i.e. to KVM's historical uABI size. When saving FPU state for usersapce, KVM (well, now the FPU) sets the FP+SSE bits in the XSAVE header even if the host doesn't support XSAVE. Setting the XSAVE header allows the VM to be migrated to a host that does support XSAVE without the new host having to handle FPU state that may or may not be compatible with XSAVE. loop: Check for overflow while configuring loop

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: loop: Check for overflow while configuring loop The userspace can configure a loop using an ioctl call, wherein a configuration of type loop_config is passed (see lo_ioctl()'s case on line 1550 of drivers/block/loop.c). This proceeds to call loop_configure() which in turn calls loop_set_status_from_info() (see line 1050 of loop.c), passing &config->info which is of type loop_info64*. This function then sets the appropriate values, like the offset. loop_device has lo_offset of type loff_t (see line 52 of loop.c), which is typdef-chained to long long, whereas loop_info64 has lo_offset of type __u64 (see line 56 of include/uapi/linux/loop.h). The function directly copies offset from info to the device as follows (See line 980 of loop.c): lo->lo_offset = info->lo_offset; This results in an overflow, which triggers a warning in iomap_iter() due to a call to iomap_iter_done() which has: WARN_ON_ONCE(iter->iomap.offset > iter->pos); Thus, check for negative value during loop_set_status_from_info(). tick/nohz: unexport __init-annotated tick_nohz_full_setup()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tick/nohz: unexport __init-annotated tick_nohz_full_setup() EXPORT_SYMBOL and __init is a bad combination because the .init.text section is freed up after the initialization. Hence, modules cannot use symbols annotated __init. The access to a freed symbol may end up with kernel panic. modpost used to detect it, but it had been broken for a decade. Commit 28438794aba4 ("modpost: fix section mismatch check for exported init/exit sections") fixed it so modpost started to warn it again, then this showed up: MODPOST vmlinux.symvers WARNING: modpost: vmlinux.o(___ksymtab_gpl+tick_nohz_full_setup+0x0): Section mismatch in reference from the variable __ksymtab_tick_nohz_full_setup to the function .init.text:tick_nohz_full_setup() The symbol tick_nohz_full_setup is exported and annotated __init Fix this by removing the __init annotation of tick_nohz_full_setup or drop the export. Drop the export because tick_nohz_full_setup() is only called from the built-in code in kernel/sched/isolation.c.

mm/hugetlb: do not call vma_add_reservation upon ENOMEM

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/hugetlb: do not call vma_add_reservation upon ENOMEM sysbot reported a splat [1] on __unmap_hugepage_range(). This is because vma_needs_reservation() can return -ENOMEM if allocate_file_region_entries() fails to allocate the file_region struct for the reservation. Check for that and do not call vma_add_reservation() if that is the case, otherwise region_abort() and region_del() will see that we do not have any file_regions. If we detect that vma_needs_reservation() returned -ENOMEM, we clear the hugetlb_restore_reserve flag as if this reservation was still consumed, so free_huge_folio() will not increment the resv count. ALSA: timer: Set lower bound of start tick time

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: timer: Set lower bound of start tick time Currently ALSA timer doesn't have the lower limit of the start tick time, and it allows a very small size, e.g. 1 tick with 1ns resolution for hrtimer. Such a situation may lead to an unexpected RCU stall, where the callback repeatedly queuing the expire update, as reported by fuzzer. This patch introduces a sanity check of the timer start tick time, so that the system returns an error when a too small start size is set. As of this patch, the lower limit is hard-coded to 100us, which is small enough but can still work somehow.

arm64: set UXN on swapper page tables

This simple fix is therefore preferred for -stable backporting ] On a system that implements FEAT_EPAN, read/write access to the idmap is denied because UXN is not set on the swapper PTEs. As a result, idmap_kpti_install_ng_mappings panics the kernel when accessing __idmap_kpti_flag. Fix it by setting UXN on these PTEs.

i40e: Fix call trace in setup_tx_descriptors

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: i40e: Fix call trace in setup_tx_descriptors After PF reset and ethtool -t there was call trace in dmesg sometimes leading to panic. When there was some time, around 5 seconds, between reset and test there were no errors. Problem was that pf reset calls i40e_vsi_close in prep_for_reset and ethtool -t calls i40e_vsi_close in diag_test. If there was not enough time between those commands the second i40e_vsi_close starts before previous i40e_vsi_close was done which leads to crash. Add check to diag_test if pf is in reset and don't start offline tests if it is true. Add netif_info("testing failed") into unhappy path of i40e_diag_test()
