net/sched: Only allow act_ct to bind to clsact/ingress qdiscs and shared blocks

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/sched: Only allow act_ct to bind to clsact/ingress qdiscs and shared blocks As Paolo said earlier [1]: "Since the blamed commit below, classify can return TC_ACT_CONSUMED while the current skb being held by the defragmentation engine. As reported by GangMin Kim, if such packet is that may cause a UaF when the defrag engine later on tries to tuch again such packet." act_ct was never meant to be used in the egress path, however some users are attaching it to egress today [2]. Attempting to reach a middle ground, we noticed that, while most qdiscs are not handling TC_ACT_CONSUMED, clsact/ingress qdiscs are. With that in mind, we address the issue by only allowing act_ct to bind to clsact/ingress qdiscs and shared blocks. That way it's still possible to attach act_ct to egress (albeit only with clsact). In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipv6: Fix use-after-free in inet6_addr_del(). syzbot reported use-after-free of inet6_ifaddr in inet6_addr_del(). [0] The cited commit accidentally moved ipv6_del_addr() for mngtmpaddr before reading its ifp->flags for temporary addresses in inet6_addr_del(). Let's move ipv6_del_addr() down to fix the UAF. drm/xe/nvm: Fix double-free on aux add failure

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/xe/nvm: Fix double-free on aux add failure After a successful auxiliary_device_init(), aux_dev->dev.release (xe_nvm_release_dev()) is responsible for the kfree(nvm). When there is failure with auxiliary_device_add(), driver will call auxiliary_device_uninit(), which call put_device(). So that the .release callback will be triggered to free the memory associated with the auxiliary_device. Move the kfree(nvm) into the auxiliary_device_init() failure path and remove the err goto path to fix below error. rtc: pcf85063: fix potential OOB write in PCF85063 NVMEM read

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: rtc: pcf85063: fix potential OOB write in PCF85063 NVMEM read The nvmem interface supports variable buffer sizes, while the regmap interface operates with fixed-size storage. If an nvmem client uses a buffer size less than 4 bytes, regmap_read will write out of bounds as it expects the buffer to point at an unsigned int. Fix this by using an intermediary unsigned int to hold the value.

spi: spi-sprd-adi: Fix double free in probe error path

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: spi: spi-sprd-adi: Fix double free in probe error path The driver currently uses spi_alloc_host() to allocate the controller but registers it using devm_spi_register_controller(). If devm_register_restart_handler() fails, the code jumps to the put_ctlr label and calls spi_controller_put(). However, since the controller was registered via a devm function, the device core will automatically call spi_controller_put() again when the probe fails. This results in a double-free of the spi_controller structure. Fix this by switching to devm_spi_alloc_host() and removing the manual spi_controller_put() call.

HID: i2c-hid: fix potential buffer overflow in i2c_hid_get_report()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: HID: i2c-hid: fix potential buffer overflow in i2c_hid_get_report() `i2c_hid_xfer` is used to read `recv_len + sizeof(__le16)` bytes of data into `ihid->rawbuf`. The former can come from the userspace in the hidraw driver and is only bounded by HID_MAX_BUFFER_SIZE(16384) by default (unless we also set `max_buffer_size` field of `struct hid_ll_driver` which we do not). The latter has size determined at runtime by the maximum size of different report types you could receive on any particular device and can be a much smaller value. Fix this by truncating `recv_len` to `ihid->bufsize - sizeof(__le16)`. The impact is low since access to hidraw devices requires root.

nfc: rawsock: cancel tx_work before socket teardown

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfc: rawsock: cancel tx_work before socket teardown In rawsock_release(), cancel any pending tx_work and purge the write queue before orphaning the socket. rawsock_tx_work runs on the system workqueue and calls nfc_data_exchange which dereferences the NCI device. Without synchronization, tx_work can race with socket and device teardown when a process is killed (e.g. by SIGKILL), leading to use-after-free or leaked references. Set SEND_SHUTDOWN first so that if tx_work is already running it will see the flag and skip transmitting, then use cancel_work_sync to wait for any in-progress execution to finish, and finally purge any remaining queued skbs.

drm/dp_mst: Ensure mst_primary pointer is valid in drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/dp_mst: Ensure mst_primary pointer is valid in drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req() While receiving an MST up request message from one thread in drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req(), the MST topology could be removed from another thread via drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr_set_mst(false), freeing mst_primary and setting drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr::mst_primary to NULL. This could lead to a NULL deref/use-after-free of mst_primary in drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req(). Avoid the above by holding a reference for mst_primary in drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req() while it's used. v2: Fix kfreeing the request if getting an mst_primary reference fails.

memory: tegra20-emc: fix an OF node reference bug in tegra_emc_find_node_by_ram_code()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: memory: tegra20-emc: fix an OF node reference bug in tegra_emc_find_node_by_ram_code() As of_find_node_by_name() release the reference of the argument device node, tegra_emc_find_node_by_ram_code() releases some device nodes while still in use, resulting in possible UAFs. According to the bindings and the in-tree DTS files, the "emc-tables" node is always device's child node with the property "nvidia,use-ram-code", and the "lpddr2" node is a child of the "emc-tables" node. Thus utilize the for_each_child_of_node() macro and of_get_child_by_name() instead of of_find_node_by_name() to simplify the code. This bug was found by an experimental verification tool that I am developing. [krzysztof: applied v1, adjust the commit msg to incorporate v2 parts]

wifi: rsi: Fix memory corruption due to not set vif driver data size

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: rsi: Fix memory corruption due to not set vif driver data size The struct ieee80211_vif contains trailing space for vif driver data, when struct ieee80211_vif is allocated, the total memory size that is allocated is sizeof(struct ieee80211_vif) + size of vif driver data. The size of vif driver data is set by each WiFi driver as needed. The RSI911x driver does not set vif driver data size, no trailing space for vif driver data is therefore allocated past struct ieee80211_vif . The RSI911x driver does however use the vif driver data to store its vif driver data structure "struct vif_priv". An access to vif->drv_priv leads to access out of struct ieee80211_vif bounds and corruption of some memory. In case of the failure observed locally, rsi_mac80211_add_interface() would write struct vif_priv *vif_info = (struct vif_priv *)vif->drv_priv; vif_info->vap_id = vap_idx. This write corrupts struct fq_tin member struct list_head new_flows . The flow = list_first_entry(head, struct fq_flow, flowchain); in fq_tin_reset() then reports non-NULL bogus address, which when accessed causes a crash. The trigger is very simple, boot the machine with init=/bin/sh , mount devtmpfs, sysfs, procfs, and then do "ip link set wlan0 up", "sleep 1", "ip link set wlan0 down" and the crash occurs. Fix this by setting the correct size of vif driver data, which is the size of "struct vif_priv", so that memory is allocated and the driver can store its driver data in it, instead of corrupting memory around it.

ocfs2: fix slab-use-after-free due to dangling pointer dqi_priv

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ocfs2: fix slab-use-after-free due to dangling pointer dqi_priv When mounting ocfs2 and then remounting it as read-only, a slab-use-after-free occurs after the user uses a syscall to quota_getnextquota. Specifically, sb_dqinfo(sb, type)->dqi_priv is the dangling pointer. During the remounting process, the pointer dqi_priv is freed but is never set as null leaving it to be accessed. Additionally, the read-only option for remounting sets the DQUOT_SUSPENDED flag instead of setting the DQUOT_USAGE_ENABLED flags. Moreover, later in the process of getting the next quota, the function ocfs2_get_next_id is called and only checks the quota usage flags and not the quota suspended flags. To fix this, I set dqi_priv to null when it is freed after remounting with read-only and put a check for DQUOT_SUSPENDED in ocfs2_get_next_id. [akpm@linux-foundation.org: coding-style cleanups]

hrtimers: Handle CPU state correctly on hotplug

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: hrtimers: Handle CPU state correctly on hotplug Consider a scenario where a CPU transitions from CPUHP_ONLINE to halfway through a CPU hotunplug down to CPUHP_HRTIMERS_PREPARE, and then back to CPUHP_ONLINE: Since hrtimers_prepare_cpu() does not run, cpu_base.hres_active remains set to 1 throughout. However, during a CPU unplug operation, the tick and the clockevents are shut down at CPUHP_AP_TICK_DYING. On return to the online state, for instance CFS incorrectly assumes that the hrtick is already active, and the chance of the clockevent device to transition to oneshot mode is also lost forever for the CPU, unless it goes back to a lower state than CPUHP_HRTIMERS_PREPARE once. This round-trip reveals another issue; cpu_base.online is not set to 1 after the transition, which appears as a WARN_ON_ONCE in enqueue_hrtimer(). Aside of that, the bulk of the per CPU state is not reset either, which means there are dangling pointers in the worst case. Address this by adding a corresponding startup() callback, which resets the stale per CPU state and sets the online flag. [ tglx: Make the new callback unconditionally available, remove the online modification in the prepare() callback and clear the remaining state in the starting callback instead of the prepare callback ]

wifi: ath12k: fix read pointer after free in ath12k_mac_assign_vif_to_vdev()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: ath12k: fix read pointer after free in ath12k_mac_assign_vif_to_vdev() In ath12k_mac_assign_vif_to_vdev(), if arvif is created on a different radio, it gets deleted from that radio through a call to ath12k_mac_unassign_link_vif(). This action frees the arvif pointer. Subsequently, there is a check involving arvif, which will result in a read-after-free scenario. Fix this by moving this check after arvif is again assigned via call to ath12k_mac_assign_link_vif(). Tested-on: QCN9274 hw2.0 PCI WLAN.WBE.1.3.1-00173-QCAHKSWPL_SILICONZ-1

bpf: Reject struct_ops registration that uses module ptr and the module btf_id is missing

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Reject struct_ops registration that uses module ptr and the module btf_id is missing There is a UAF report in the bpf_struct_ops when CONFIG_MODULES=n. In particular, the report is on tcp_congestion_ops that has a "struct module *owner" member. For struct_ops that has a "struct module *owner" member, it can be extended either by the regular kernel module or by the bpf_struct_ops. bpf_try_module_get() will be used to do the refcounting and different refcount is done based on the owner pointer. When CONFIG_MODULES=n, the btf_id of the "struct module" is missing: WARN: resolve_btfids: unresolved symbol module Thus, the bpf_try_module_get() cannot do the correct refcounting. Not all subsystem's struct_ops requires the "struct module *owner" member. e.g. the recent sched_ext_ops. This patch is to disable bpf_struct_ops registration if the struct_ops has the "struct module *" member and the "struct module" btf_id is missing. The btf_type_is_fwd() helper is moved to the btf.h header file for this test. This has happened since the beginning of bpf_struct_ops which has gone through many changes. The Fixes tag is set to a recent commit that this patch can apply cleanly. Considering CONFIG_MODULES=n is not common and the age of the issue, targeting for bpf-next also.

tls: separate no-async decryption request handling from async

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tls: separate no-async decryption request handling from async If we're not doing async, the handling is much simpler. There's no reference counting, we just need to wait for the completion to wake us up and return its result. We should preferably also use a separate crypto_wait. I'm not seeing a UAF as I did in the past, I think aec7961916f3 ("tls: fix race between async notify and socket close") took care of it. This will make the next fix easier.

KVM: Explicitly verify target vCPU is online in kvm_get_vcpu()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KVM: Explicitly verify target vCPU is online in kvm_get_vcpu() Explicitly verify the target vCPU is fully online _prior_ to clamping the index in kvm_get_vcpu(). If the index is "bad", the nospec clamping will generate '0', i.e. KVM will return vCPU0 instead of NULL. In practice, the bug is unlikely to cause problems, as it will only come into play if userspace or the guest is buggy or misbehaving, e.g. KVM may send interrupts to vCPU0 instead of dropping them on the floor. However, returning vCPU0 when it shouldn't exist per online_vcpus is problematic now that KVM uses an xarray for the vCPUs array, as KVM needs to insert into the xarray before publishing the vCPU to userspace (see commit c5b077549136 ("KVM: Convert the kvm->vcpus array to a xarray")), i.e. before vCPU creation is guaranteed to succeed. As a result, incorrectly providing access to vCPU0 will trigger a use-after-free if vCPU0 is dereferenced and kvm_vm_ioctl_create_vcpu() bails out of vCPU creation due to an error and frees vCPU0. Commit afb2acb2e3a3 ("KVM: Fix vcpu_array[0] races") papered over that issue, but in doing so introduced an unsolvable teardown conundrum. Preventing accesses to vCPU0 before it's fully online will allow reverting commit afb2acb2e3a3, without re-introducing the vcpu_array[0] UAF race.

media: uvcvideo: Remove dangling pointers

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: uvcvideo: Remove dangling pointers When an async control is written, we copy a pointer to the file handle that started the operation. That pointer will be used when the device is done. Which could be anytime in the future. If the user closes that file descriptor, its structure will be freed, and there will be one dangling pointer per pending async control, that the driver will try to use. Clean all the dangling pointers during release(). To avoid adding a performance penalty in the most common case (no async operation), a counter has been introduced with some logic to make sure that it is properly handled.

powerpc/mm/fault: Fix kfence page fault reporting

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: powerpc/mm/fault: Fix kfence page fault reporting copy_from_kernel_nofault() can be called when doing read of /proc/kcore. /proc/kcore can have some unmapped kfence objects which when read via copy_from_kernel_nofault() can cause page faults. Since *_nofault() functions define their own fixup table for handling fault, use that instead of asking kfence to handle such faults. Hence we search the exception tables for the nip which generated the fault. If there is an entry then we let the fixup table handler handle the page fault by returning an error from within ___do_page_fault(). This can be easily triggered if someone tries to do dd from /proc/kcore. eg. dd if=/proc/kcore of=/dev/null bs=1M Some example false negatives: =============================== BUG: KFENCE: invalid read in copy_from_kernel_nofault+0x9c/0x1a0 Invalid read at 0xc0000000fdff0000: copy_from_kernel_nofault+0x9c/0x1a0 0xc00000000665f950 read_kcore_iter+0x57c/0xa04 proc_reg_read_iter+0xe4/0x16c vfs_read+0x320/0x3ec ksys_read+0x90/0x154 system_call_exception+0x120/0x310 system_call_vectored_common+0x15c/0x2ec BUG: KFENCE: use-after-free read in copy_from_kernel_nofault+0x9c/0x1a0 Use-after-free read at 0xc0000000fe050000 (in kfence-#2): copy_from_kernel_nofault+0x9c/0x1a0 0xc00000000665f950 read_kcore_iter+0x57c/0xa04 proc_reg_read_iter+0xe4/0x16c vfs_read+0x320/0x3ec ksys_read+0x90/0x154 system_call_exception+0x120/0x310 system_call_vectored_common+0x15c/0x2ec

ublk: detach gendisk from ublk device if add_disk() fails

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ublk: detach gendisk from ublk device if add_disk() fails Inside ublk_abort_requests(), gendisk is grabbed for aborting all inflight requests. And ublk_abort_requests() is called when exiting the uring context or handling timeout. If add_disk() fails, the gendisk may have been freed when calling ublk_abort_requests(), so use-after-free can be caused when getting disk's reference in ublk_abort_requests(). Fixes the bug by detaching gendisk from ublk device if add_disk() fails.

Use-after-free in Linux kernel's Performance Events subsystem

A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux Kernel Performance Events system can be exploited to achieve local privilege escalation. The perf_group_detach function did not check the event's siblings' attach_state before calling add_event_to_groups(), but remove_on_exec made it possible to call list_del_event() on before detaching from their group, making it possible to use a dangling pointer causing a use-after-free vulnerability. We recommend upgrading past commit fd0815f632c24878e325821943edccc7fde947a2.

nfsd: make sure exp active before svc_export_show

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfsd: make sure exp active before svc_export_show The function `e_show` was called with protection from RCU. This only ensures that `exp` will not be freed. Therefore, the reference count for `exp` can drop to zero, which will trigger a refcount use-after-free warning when `exp_get` is called. bpf: Fix UAF via mismatching bpf_prog/attachment RCU flavors

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Fix UAF via mismatching bpf_prog/attachment RCU flavors Uprobes always use bpf_prog_run_array_uprobe() under tasks-trace-RCU protection. But it is possible to attach a non-sleepable BPF program to a uprobe, and non-sleepable BPF programs are freed via normal RCU (see __bpf_prog_put_noref()). This leads to UAF of the bpf_prog because a normal RCU grace period does not imply a tasks-trace-RCU grace period. Fix it by explicitly waiting for a tasks-trace-RCU grace period after removing the attachment of a bpf_prog to a perf_event.

drm/mgag200: Bind I2C lifetime to DRM device

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/mgag200: Bind I2C lifetime to DRM device Managed cleanup with devm_add_action_or_reset() will release the I2C adapter when the underlying Linux device goes away. But the connector still refers to it, so this cleanup leaves behind a stale pointer in struct drm_connector.ddc. Bind the lifetime of the I2C adapter to the connector's lifetime by using DRM's managed release. When the DRM device goes away (after the Linux device) DRM will first clean up the connector and then clean up the I2C adapter.

net: inet6: do not leave a dangling sk pointer in inet6_create()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: inet6: do not leave a dangling sk pointer in inet6_create() sock_init_data() attaches the allocated sk pointer to the provided sock object. If inet6_create() fails later, the sk object is released, but the sock object retains the dangling sk pointer, which may cause use-after-free later. Clear the sock sk pointer on error.

xsk: fix OOB map writes when deleting elements

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: xsk: fix OOB map writes when deleting elements Jordy says: " In the xsk_map_delete_elem function an unsigned integer (map->max_entries) is compared with a user-controlled signed integer (k). Due to implicit type conversion, a large unsigned value for map->max_entries can bypass the intended bounds check: if (k >= map->max_entries) return -EINVAL; This allows k to hold a negative value (between -2147483648 and -2), which is then used as an array index in m->xsk_map[k], which results in an out-of-bounds access. spin_lock_bh(&m->lock); map_entry = &m->xsk_map[k]; // Out-of-bounds map_entry old_xs = unrcu_pointer(xchg(map_entry, NULL)); // Oob write if (old_xs) xsk_map_sock_delete(old_xs, map_entry); spin_unlock_bh(&m->lock); The xchg operation can then be used to cause an out-of-bounds write. Moreover, the invalid map_entry passed to xsk_map_sock_delete can lead to further memory corruption. " It indeed results in following splat: [76612.897343] BUG: unable to handle page fault for address: ffffc8fc2e461108 [76612.904330] #PF: supervisor write access in kernel mode [76612.909639] #PF: error_code(0x0002) - not-present page [76612.914855] PGD 0 P4D 0 [76612.917431] Oops: Oops: 0002 [#1] PREEMPT SMP [76612.921859] CPU: 11 UID: 0 PID: 10318 Comm: a.out Not tainted 6.12.0-rc1+ #470 [76612.929189] Hardware name: Intel Corporation S2600WFT/S2600WFT, BIOS SE5C620.86B.02.01.0008.031920191559 03/19/2019 [76612.939781] RIP: 0010:xsk_map_delete_elem+0x2d/0x60 [76612.944738] Code: 00 00 41 54 55 53 48 63 2e 3b 6f 24 73 38 4c 8d a7 f8 00 00 00 48 89 fb 4c 89 e7 e8 2d bf 05 00 48 8d b4 eb 00 01 00 00 31 ff <48> 87 3e 48 85 ff 74 05 e8 16 ff ff ff 4c 89 e7 e8 3e bc 05 00 31 [76612.963774] RSP: 0018:ffffc9002e407df8 EFLAGS: 00010246 [76612.969079] RAX: 0000000000000000 RBX: ffffc9002e461000 RCX: 0000000000000000 [76612.976323] RDX: 0000000000000001 RSI: ffffc8fc2e461108 RDI: 0000000000000000 [76612.983569] RBP: ffffffff80000001 R08: 0000000000000000 R09: 0000000000000007 [76612.990812] R10: ffffc9002e407e18 R11: ffff888108a38858 R12: ffffc9002e4610f8 [76612.998060] R13: ffff888108a38858 R14: 00007ffd1ae0ac78 R15: ffffc9002e4610c0 [76613.005303] FS: 00007f80b6f59740(0000) GS:ffff8897e0ec0000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 [76613.013517] CS: 0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 0000000080050033 [76613.019349] CR2: ffffc8fc2e461108 CR3: 000000011e3ef001 CR4: 00000000007726f0 [76613.026595] DR0: 0000000000000000 DR1: 0000000000000000 DR2: 0000000000000000 [76613.033841] DR3: 0000000000000000 DR6: 00000000fffe0ff0 DR7: 0000000000000400 [76613.041086] PKRU: 55555554 [76613.043842] Call Trace: [76613.046331] <TASK> [76613.048468] ? __die+0x20/0x60 [76613.051581] ? page_fault_oops+0x15a/0x450 [76613.055747] ? search_extable+0x22/0x30 [76613.059649] ? search_bpf_extables+0x5f/0x80 [76613.063988] ? exc_page_fault+0xa9/0x140 [76613.067975] ? asm_exc_page_fault+0x22/0x30 [76613.072229] ? xsk_map_delete_elem+0x2d/0x60 [76613.076573] ? xsk_map_delete_elem+0x23/0x60 [76613.080914] __sys_bpf+0x19b7/0x23c0 [76613.084555] __x64_sys_bpf+0x1a/0x20 [76613.088194] do_syscall_64+0x37/0xb0 [76613.091832] entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x4b/0x53 [76613.096962] RIP: 0033:0x7f80b6d1e88d [76613.100592] Code: 5b 41 5c c3 66 0f 1f 84 00 00 00 00 00 f3 0f 1e fa 48 89 f8 48 89 f7 48 89 d6 48 89 ca 4d 89 c2 4d 89 c8 4c 8b 4c 24 08 0f 05 <48> 3d 01 f0 ff ff 73 01 c3 48 8b 0d 73 b5 0f 00 f7 d8 64 89 01 48 [76613.119631] RSP: 002b:00007ffd1ae0ac68 EFLAGS: 00000206 ORIG_RAX: 0000000000000141 [76613.131330] RAX: ffffffffffffffda RBX: 0000000000000000 RCX: 00007f80b6d1e88d [76613.142632] RDX: 0000000000000098 RSI: 00007ffd1ae0ad20 RDI: 0000000000000003 [76613.153967] RBP: 00007ffd1ae0adc0 R08: 0000000000000000 R09: 0000000000000000 [76613.166030] R10: 00007f80b6f77040 R11: 0000000000000206 R12: 00007ffd1ae0aed8 [76613.177130] R13: 000055ddf42ce1e9 R14: 000055ddf42d0d98 R15: 00 ---truncated---
