i18nextify is vulnerable to DOM XSS via javascript:/data: URL schemes in translated href/src attributes

i18nextify is a JavaScript library that adds website internationalization via a script tag, without source code changes. Versions prior to 4.0.8 substitute {{key}} interpolation tokens inside src and href attribute values with the raw string returned by i18next.t(). The substitution logic in src/localize.js (the replaceInside handler) only guards against a duplicated http:// origin prefix — it does not validate the URL scheme of the substituted value. A translated value such as javascript:alert(1) or data:text/html,<script>...</script> is applied unchanged to the live DOM attribute when an attacker can influence the content of a translation file or the translation-backend response — for example, via a compromised translation CDN, user-contributed locales, a MITM on a plain-HTTP backend, or write access to the translation JSON. This issue was patched in version 4.0.8.

HTTP response splitting and DoS in i18next-http-middleware via unsanitised Content-Language header

i18next-http-middleware is a middleware to be used with Node.js web frameworks like express or Fastify and also for Deno. Prior to version 3.9.3, i18next-http-middleware wrote user-controlled language values into the Content-Language response header after passing them through utils.escape(), which is an HTML-entity encoder that does not strip carriage return, line feed, or other control characters. When the application used an older i18next (< 19.5.0) that still exercised the backward-compatibility fallback at LanguageDetector.js:100 or otherwise produced a raw detected value, CRLF sequences in the attacker-controlled lng parameter reached res.setHeader('Content-Language', ...) verbatim. This issue has been patched in version 3.9.3.

Next.js: Cross-site scripting in App Router applications using CSP nonces

Next.js is a React framework for building full-stack web applications. From 13.4.0 to before 15.5.16 and 16.2.5, App Router applications that rely on CSP nonces can be vulnerable to stored cross-site scripting when deployed behind shared caches. In affected versions, malformed nonce values derived from request headers could be reflected into rendered HTML in an unsafe way, allowing an attacker to poison cached responses and cause script execution for later visitors. This vulnerability is fixed in 15.5.16 and 16.2.5.

XSS vulnerability in GraphQL Playground

GraphQL Playground is a GraphQL IDE for development of graphQL focused applications. All versions of graphql-playground-react older than graphql-playground-react@1.7.28 are vulnerable to compromised HTTP schema introspection responses or schema prop values with malicious GraphQL type names, exposing a dynamic XSS attack surface that can allow code injection on operation autocomplete. In order for the attack to take place, the user must load a malicious schema in graphql-playground. There are several ways this can occur, including by specifying the URL to a malicious schema in the endpoint query parameter. If a user clicks on a link to a GraphQL Playground installation that specifies a malicious server, arbitrary JavaScript can run in the user's browser, which can be used to exfiltrate user credentials or other harmful goals. If you are using graphql-playground-react directly in your client app, upgrade to version 1.7.28 or later.

Gravity Forms <= 2.9.30 - Reflected Cross-Site Scripting via 'form_ids' Parameter

The Gravity Forms plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Reflected Cross-Site Scripting via the `form_ids` parameter in the `gform_get_config` AJAX action in all versions up to, and including, 2.9.30. This is due to the `GFCommon::send_json()` method outputting JSON-encoded data wrapped in HTML comment delimiters using `echo` and `wp_die()`, which serves the response with a `Content-Type: text/html` header instead of `application/json`. The `wp_json_encode()` function does not HTML-encode angle brackets within JSON string values, allowing injected HTML/script tags in `form_ids` array values to be parsed and executed by the browser. The required `config_nonce` is generated with `wp_create_nonce('gform_config_ajax')` and is publicly embedded on every page that renders a Gravity Forms form, making it identical for all unauthenticated visitors within the same 12-hour nonce tick. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that execute if they can successfully trick a user into performing an action such as clicking on a link. This vulnerability cannot be exploited against users who are authenticated on the target system, but could be used to alter the target page.

Handlebars.js has Prototype Pollution Leading to XSS through Partial Template Injection

Handlebars provides the power necessary to let users build semantic templates. In versions 4.0.0 through 4.7.8, `resolvePartial()` in the Handlebars runtime resolves partial names via a plain property lookup on `options.partials` without guarding against prototype-chain traversal. When `Object.prototype` has been polluted with a string value whose key matches a partial reference in a template, the polluted string is used as the partial body and rendered without HTML escaping, resulting in reflected or stored XSS. Version 4.7.9 fixes the issue. Some workarounds are available. Apply `Object.freeze(Object.prototype)` early in application startup to prevent prototype pollution. Note: this may break other libraries, and/or use the Handlebars runtime-only build (`handlebars/runtime`), which does not compile templates and reduces the attack surface.

DiceBear is an avatar library for designers and developers. Starting in version 5.0.0 and prior to versions 5.4.4, 6.1.4, 7.1.4, 8.0.3, and 9.4.1, SVG attribute values derived from user-supplied options (`backgroundColor`, `fontFamily`, `textColor`) were not XML-escaped before interpolation into SVG output. This could allow Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) when applications pass untrusted input to `createAvatar()` and serve the resulting SVG inline or with `Content-Type: image/svg+xml`. Starting in versions 5.4.4, 6.1.4, 7.1.4, 8.0.3, and 9.4.1, all affected SVG attribute values are properly escaped using XML entity encoding. Users should upgrade to the listed patched versions. Some mitigating factors limit vulnerability. Applications that validate input against the library's JSON Schema before passing it to `createAvatar()` are not affected. The DiceBear CLI validates input via AJV and was not vulnerable. Exploitation requires that an application passes untrusted, unvalidated external input directly as option values.

Cross-site scripting caused by the editor instance destroying process in ckeditor5

CKEditor 5 is a JavaScript rich text editor. A cross-site scripting vulnerability has been discovered affecting three optional CKEditor 5's packages in versions prior to 35.0.1. The vulnerability allowed to trigger a JavaScript code after fulfilling special conditions. The affected packages are `@ckeditor/ckeditor5-markdown-gfm`, `@ckeditor/ckeditor5-html-support`, and `@ckeditor/ckeditor5-html-embed`. The specific conditions are 1) Using one of the affected packages. In case of `ckeditor5-html-support` and `ckeditor5-html-embed`, additionally, it was required to use a configuration that allows unsafe markup inside the editor. 2) Destroying the editor instance and 3) Initializing the editor on an element and using an element other than `<textarea>` as a base. The root cause of the issue was a mechanism responsible for updating the source element with the markup coming from the CKEditor 5 data pipeline after destroying the editor. This vulnerability might affect a small percent of integrators that depend on dynamic editor initialization/destroy and use Markdown, General HTML Support or HTML embed features. The problem has been recognized and patched. The fix is available in version 35.0.1. There are no known workarounds for this issue.

XSS vulnerability in GraphiQL

GraphiQL is the reference implementation of this monorepo, GraphQL IDE, an official project under the GraphQL Foundation. All versions of graphiql older than graphiql@1.4.7 are vulnerable to compromised HTTP schema introspection responses or schema prop values with malicious GraphQL type names, exposing a dynamic XSS attack surface that can allow code injection on operation autocomplete. In order for the attack to take place, the user must load a vulnerable schema in graphiql. There are a number of ways that can occur. By default, the schema URL is not attacker-controllable in graphiql or in its suggested implementations or examples, leaving only very complex attack vectors. If a custom implementation of graphiql's fetcher allows the schema URL to be set dynamically, such as a URL query parameter like ?endpoint= in graphql-playground, or a database provided value, then this custom graphiql implementation is vulnerable to phishing attacks, and thus much more readily available, low or no privelege level xss attacks. The URLs could look like any generic looking graphql schema URL. It should be noted that desktop clients such as Altair, Insomnia, Postwoman, do not appear to be impacted by this. This vulnerability does not impact codemirror-graphql, monaco-graphql or other dependents, as it exists in onHasCompletion.ts in graphiql. It does impact all forks of graphiql, and every released version of graphiql.
