USB: core: Fix race by not overwriting udev->descriptor in hub_port_init()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: USB: core: Fix race by not overwriting udev->descriptor in hub_port_init() Syzbot reported an out-of-bounds read in sysfs.c:read_descriptors(): BUG: KASAN: slab-out-of-bounds in read_descriptors+0x263/0x280 drivers/usb/core/sysfs.c:883 Read of size 8 at addr ffff88801e78b8c8 by task udevd/5011 CPU: 0 PID: 5011 Comm: udevd Not tainted 6.4.0-rc6-syzkaller-00195-g40f71e7cd3c6 #0 Hardware name: Google Google Compute Engine/Google Compute Engine, BIOS Google 05/27/2023 Call Trace: <TASK> __dump_stack lib/dump_stack.c:88 [inline] dump_stack_lvl+0xd9/0x150 lib/dump_stack.c:106 print_address_description.constprop.0+0x2c/0x3c0 mm/kasan/report.c:351 print_report mm/kasan/report.c:462 [inline] kasan_report+0x11c/0x130 mm/kasan/report.c:572 read_descriptors+0x263/0x280 drivers/usb/core/sysfs.c:883 ... Prior to commit 45bf39f8df7f ("USB: core: Don't hold device lock while reading the "descriptors" sysfs file") this race couldn't occur, because the routines were mutually exclusive thanks to the device locking. Removing that locking from read_descriptors() exposed it to the race. The best way to fix the bug is to keep hub_port_init() from changing udev->descriptor once udev has been initialized and registered. Drivers expect the descriptors stored in the kernel to be immutable; we should not undermine this expectation. In fact, this change should have been made long ago. So now hub_port_init() will take an additional argument, specifying a buffer in which to store the device descriptor it reads. (If udev has not yet been initialized, the buffer pointer will be NULL and then hub_port_init() will store the device descriptor in udev as before.) This eliminates the data race responsible for the out-of-bounds read. The changes to hub_port_init() appear more extensive than they really are, because of indentation changes resulting from an attempt to avoid writing to other parts of the usb_device structure after it has been initialized. Similar changes should be made to the code that reads the BOS descriptor, but that can be handled in a separate patch later on. This patch is sufficient to fix the bug found by syzbot.

A flaw was found in the KVM's AMD code for supporting the Secure Encrypted Virtualization-Encrypted State (SEV-ES). A KVM guest using SEV-ES can trigger out-of-bounds reads and writes in the host kernel via a malicious VMGEXIT for a string I/O instruction (for example, outs or ins) using the exit reason SVM_EXIT_IOIO. This issue results in a crash of the entire system or a potential guest-to-host escape scenario.

crypto: qat - validate slices count returned by FW

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: qat - validate slices count returned by FW The function adf_send_admin_tl_start() enables the telemetry (TL) feature on a QAT device by sending the ICP_QAT_FW_TL_START message to the firmware. This triggers the FW to start writing TL data to a DMA buffer in memory and returns an array containing the number of accelerators of each type (slices) supported by this HW. The pointer to this array is stored in the adf_tl_hw_data data structure called slice_cnt. The array slice_cnt is then used in the function tl_print_dev_data() to report in debugfs only statistics about the supported accelerators. An incorrect value of the elements in slice_cnt might lead to an out of bounds memory read. At the moment, there isn't an implementation of FW that returns a wrong value, but for robustness validate the slice count array returned by FW.

Linux kernel eBPF bitwise ops ALU32 bounds tracking

The eBPF ALU32 bounds tracking for bitwise ops (AND, OR and XOR) in the Linux kernel did not properly update 32-bit bounds, which could be turned into out of bounds reads and writes in the Linux kernel and therefore, arbitrary code execution. This issue was fixed via commit 049c4e13714e ("bpf: Fix alu32 const subreg bound tracking on bitwise operations") (v5.13-rc4) and backported to the stable kernels in v5.12.4, v5.11.21, and v5.10.37. The AND/OR issues were introduced by commit 3f50f132d840 ("bpf: Verifier, do explicit ALU32 bounds tracking") (5.7-rc1) and the XOR variant was introduced by 2921c90d4718 ("bpf:Fix a verifier failure with xor") ( 5.10-rc1).

An out-of-bounds (OOB) memory access flaw was found in fs/f2fs/node.c in the f2fs module in the Linux kernel in versions before 5.12.0-rc4. A bounds check failure allows a local attacker to gain access to out-of-bounds memory leading to a system crash or a leak of internal kernel information. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to system availability.

drm/vmwgfx: Fix invalid reads in fence signaled events

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/vmwgfx: Fix invalid reads in fence signaled events Correctly set the length of the drm_event to the size of the structure that's actually used. The length of the drm_event was set to the parent structure instead of to the drm_vmw_event_fence which is supposed to be read. drm_read uses the length parameter to copy the event to the user space thus resuling in oob reads.

tpm_tis_spi: Account for SPI header when allocating TPM SPI xfer buffer

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tpm_tis_spi: Account for SPI header when allocating TPM SPI xfer buffer The TPM SPI transfer mechanism uses MAX_SPI_FRAMESIZE for computing the maximum transfer length and the size of the transfer buffer. As such, it does not account for the 4 bytes of header that prepends the SPI data frame. This can result in out-of-bounds accesses and was confirmed with KASAN. Introduce SPI_HDRSIZE to account for the header and use to allocate the transfer buffer.

tty: n_gsm: fix possible out-of-bounds in gsm0_receive()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tty: n_gsm: fix possible out-of-bounds in gsm0_receive() Assuming the following: - side A configures the n_gsm in basic option mode - side B sends the header of a basic option mode frame with data length 1 - side A switches to advanced option mode - side B sends 2 data bytes which exceeds gsm->len Reason: gsm->len is not used in advanced option mode. - side A switches to basic option mode - side B keeps sending until gsm0_receive() writes past gsm->buf Reason: Neither gsm->state nor gsm->len have been reset after reconfiguration. Fix this by changing gsm->count to gsm->len comparison from equal to less than. Also add upper limit checks against the constant MAX_MRU in gsm0_receive() and gsm1_receive() to harden against memory corruption of gsm->len and gsm->mru. All other checks remain as we still need to limit the data according to the user configuration and actual payload size.

Bluetooth: btrtl: fix out of bounds memory access

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: btrtl: fix out of bounds memory access The problem is detected by KASAN. btrtl driver uses private hci data to store 'struct btrealtek_data'. If btrtl driver is used with btusb, then memory for private hci data is allocated in btusb. But no private data is allocated after hci_dev, when btrtl is used with hci_h5. This commit adds memory allocation for hci_h5 case. ================================================================== BUG: KASAN: slab-out-of-bounds in btrtl_initialize+0x6cc/0x958 [btrtl] Write of size 8 at addr ffff00000f5a5748 by task kworker/u9:0/76 Hardware name: Pine64 PinePhone (1.2) (DT) Workqueue: hci0 hci_power_on [bluetooth] Call trace: dump_backtrace+0x9c/0x128 show_stack+0x20/0x38 dump_stack_lvl+0x48/0x60 print_report+0xf8/0x5d8 kasan_report+0x90/0xd0 __asan_store8+0x9c/0xc0 [btrtl] h5_btrtl_setup+0xd0/0x2f8 [hci_uart] h5_setup+0x50/0x80 [hci_uart] hci_uart_setup+0xd4/0x260 [hci_uart] hci_dev_open_sync+0x1cc/0xf68 [bluetooth] hci_dev_do_open+0x34/0x90 [bluetooth] hci_power_on+0xc4/0x3c8 [bluetooth] process_one_work+0x328/0x6f0 worker_thread+0x410/0x778 kthread+0x168/0x178 ret_from_fork+0x10/0x20 Allocated by task 53: kasan_save_stack+0x3c/0x68 kasan_save_track+0x20/0x40 kasan_save_alloc_info+0x68/0x78 __kasan_kmalloc+0xd4/0xd8 __kmalloc+0x1b4/0x3b0 hci_alloc_dev_priv+0x28/0xa58 [bluetooth] hci_uart_register_device+0x118/0x4f8 [hci_uart] h5_serdev_probe+0xf4/0x178 [hci_uart] serdev_drv_probe+0x54/0xa0 really_probe+0x254/0x588 __driver_probe_device+0xc4/0x210 driver_probe_device+0x64/0x160 __driver_attach_async_helper+0x88/0x158 async_run_entry_fn+0xd0/0x388 process_one_work+0x328/0x6f0 worker_thread+0x410/0x778 kthread+0x168/0x178 ret_from_fork+0x10/0x20 Last potentially related work creation: kasan_save_stack+0x3c/0x68 __kasan_record_aux_stack+0xb0/0x150 kasan_record_aux_stack_noalloc+0x14/0x20 __queue_work+0x33c/0x960 queue_work_on+0x98/0xc0 hci_recv_frame+0xc8/0x1e8 [bluetooth] h5_complete_rx_pkt+0x2c8/0x800 [hci_uart] h5_rx_payload+0x98/0xb8 [hci_uart] h5_recv+0x158/0x3d8 [hci_uart] hci_uart_receive_buf+0xa0/0xe8 [hci_uart] ttyport_receive_buf+0xac/0x178 flush_to_ldisc+0x130/0x2c8 process_one_work+0x328/0x6f0 worker_thread+0x410/0x778 kthread+0x168/0x178 ret_from_fork+0x10/0x20 Second to last potentially related work creation: kasan_save_stack+0x3c/0x68 __kasan_record_aux_stack+0xb0/0x150 kasan_record_aux_stack_noalloc+0x14/0x20 __queue_work+0x788/0x960 queue_work_on+0x98/0xc0 __hci_cmd_sync_sk+0x23c/0x7a0 [bluetooth] __hci_cmd_sync+0x24/0x38 [bluetooth] btrtl_initialize+0x760/0x958 [btrtl] h5_btrtl_setup+0xd0/0x2f8 [hci_uart] h5_setup+0x50/0x80 [hci_uart] hci_uart_setup+0xd4/0x260 [hci_uart] hci_dev_open_sync+0x1cc/0xf68 [bluetooth] hci_dev_do_open+0x34/0x90 [bluetooth] hci_power_on+0xc4/0x3c8 [bluetooth] process_one_work+0x328/0x6f0 worker_thread+0x410/0x778 kthread+0x168/0x178 ret_from_fork+0x10/0x20 ==================================================================

crypto: arm64/neonbs - fix out-of-bounds access on short input

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: arm64/neonbs - fix out-of-bounds access on short input The bit-sliced implementation of AES-CTR operates on blocks of 128 bytes, and will fall back to the plain NEON version for tail blocks or inputs that are shorter than 128 bytes to begin with. It will call straight into the plain NEON asm helper, which performs all memory accesses in granules of 16 bytes (the size of a NEON register). For this reason, the associated plain NEON glue code will copy inputs shorter than 16 bytes into a temporary buffer, given that this is a rare occurrence and it is not worth the effort to work around this in the asm code. The fallback from the bit-sliced NEON version fails to take this into account, potentially resulting in out-of-bounds accesses. So clone the same workaround, and use a temp buffer for short in/outputs.

Squashfs: check the inode number is not the invalid value of zero

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Squashfs: check the inode number is not the invalid value of zero Syskiller has produced an out of bounds access in fill_meta_index(). That out of bounds access is ultimately caused because the inode has an inode number with the invalid value of zero, which was not checked. The reason this causes the out of bounds access is due to following sequence of events: 1. Fill_meta_index() is called to allocate (via empty_meta_index()) and fill a metadata index. It however suffers a data read error and aborts, invalidating the newly returned empty metadata index. It does this by setting the inode number of the index to zero, which means unused (zero is not a valid inode number). 2. When fill_meta_index() is subsequently called again on another read operation, locate_meta_index() returns the previous index because it matches the inode number of 0. Because this index has been returned it is expected to have been filled, and because it hasn't been, an out of bounds access is performed. This patch adds a sanity check which checks that the inode number is not zero when the inode is created and returns -EINVAL if it is. [phillip@squashfs.org.uk: whitespace fix]

drm/amd/display: Implement bounds check for stream encoder creation in DCN301

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amd/display: Implement bounds check for stream encoder creation in DCN301 'stream_enc_regs' array is an array of dcn10_stream_enc_registers structures. The array is initialized with four elements, corresponding to the four calls to stream_enc_regs() in the array initializer. This means that valid indices for this array are 0, 1, 2, and 3. The error message 'stream_enc_regs' 4 <= 5 below, is indicating that there is an attempt to access this array with an index of 5, which is out of bounds. This could lead to undefined behavior Here, eng_id is used as an index to access the stream_enc_regs array. If eng_id is 5, this would result in an out-of-bounds access on the stream_enc_regs array. Thus fixing Buffer overflow error in dcn301_stream_encoder_create reported by Smatch: drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/../display/dc/resource/dcn301/dcn301_resource.c:1011 dcn301_stream_encoder_create() error: buffer overflow 'stream_enc_regs' 4 <= 5

ice: ensure the copied buf is NUL terminated

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ice: ensure the copied buf is NUL terminated Currently, we allocate a count-sized kernel buffer and copy count bytes from userspace to that buffer. Later, we use sscanf on this buffer but we don't ensure that the string is terminated inside the buffer, this can lead to OOB read when using sscanf. Fix this issue by using memdup_user_nul instead of memdup_user.

Kernel: ksmbd: smb2_open out-of-bounds read information disclosure vulnerability

A flaw was found within the parsing of extended attributes in the kernel ksmbd module. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of user-supplied data, which can result in a read past the end of an allocated buffer. An attacker can leverage this to disclose sensitive information on affected installations of Linux. Only systems with ksmbd enabled are vulnerable to this CVE.

jfs: fix slab-out-of-bounds read in ea_get()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: jfs: fix slab-out-of-bounds read in ea_get() During the "size_check" label in ea_get(), the code checks if the extended attribute list (xattr) size matches ea_size. If not, it logs "ea_get: invalid extended attribute" and calls print_hex_dump(). Here, EALIST_SIZE(ea_buf->xattr) returns 4110417968, which exceeds INT_MAX (2,147,483,647). Then ea_size is clamped: int size = clamp_t(int, ea_size, 0, EALIST_SIZE(ea_buf->xattr)); Although clamp_t aims to bound ea_size between 0 and 4110417968, the upper limit is treated as an int, causing an overflow above 2^31 - 1. This leads "size" to wrap around and become negative (-184549328). The "size" is then passed to print_hex_dump() (called "len" in print_hex_dump()), it is passed as type size_t (an unsigned type), this is then stored inside a variable called "int remaining", which is then assigned to "int linelen" which is then passed to hex_dump_to_buffer(). In print_hex_dump() the for loop, iterates through 0 to len-1, where len is 18446744073525002176, calling hex_dump_to_buffer() on each iteration: for (i = 0; i < len; i += rowsize) { linelen = min(remaining, rowsize); remaining -= rowsize; hex_dump_to_buffer(ptr + i, linelen, rowsize, groupsize, linebuf, sizeof(linebuf), ascii); ... } The expected stopping condition (i < len) is effectively broken since len is corrupted and very large. This eventually leads to the "ptr+i" being passed to hex_dump_to_buffer() to get closer to the end of the actual bounds of "ptr", eventually an out of bounds access is done in hex_dump_to_buffer() in the following for loop: for (j = 0; j < len; j++) { if (linebuflen < lx + 2) goto overflow2; ch = ptr[j]; ... } To fix this we should validate "EALIST_SIZE(ea_buf->xattr)" before it is utilised.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netlabel: fix out-of-bounds memory accesses There are two array out-of-bounds memory accesses, one in cipso_v4_map_lvl_valid(), the other in netlbl_bitmap_walk(). As a FYI for anyone backporting this patch to kernels prior to v4.8, you'll want to apply the netlbl_bitmap_walk() patch to cipso_v4_bitmap_walk() as netlbl_bitmap_walk() doesn't exist before Linux v4.8.

An issue was discovered in Adobe Flash Player 27.0.0.183 and earlier versions. This vulnerability occurs as a result of a computation that reads data that is past the end of the target buffer due to an integer overflow; the computation is part of the abstraction that creates an arbitrarily sized transparent or opaque bitmap image. The use of an invalid (out-of-range) pointer offset during access of internal data structure fields causes the vulnerability. A successful attack can lead to sensitive data exposure.

In the Linux kernel 5.0.21, mounting a crafted f2fs filesystem image can lead to slab-out-of-bounds read access in f2fs_build_segment_manager in fs/f2fs/segment.c, related to init_min_max_mtime in fs/f2fs/segment.c (because the second argument to get_seg_entry is not validated).

An out-of-bounds access vulnerability involving netfilter was reported and fixed as: f1082dd31fe4 (netfilter: nf_tables: Reject tables of unsupported family); While creating a new netfilter table, lack of a safeguard against invalid nf_tables family (pf) values within `nf_tables_newtable` function enables an attacker to achieve out-of-bounds access.

s390/ptrace: handle setting of fpc register correctly

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: s390/ptrace: handle setting of fpc register correctly If the content of the floating point control (fpc) register of a traced process is modified with the ptrace interface the new value is tested for validity by temporarily loading it into the fpc register. This may lead to corruption of the fpc register of the tracing process: if an interrupt happens while the value is temporarily loaded into the fpc register, and within interrupt context floating point or vector registers are used, the current fp/vx registers are saved with save_fpu_regs() assuming they belong to user space and will be loaded into fp/vx registers when returning to user space. test_fp_ctl() restores the original user space fpc register value, however it will be discarded, when returning to user space. In result the tracer will incorrectly continue to run with the value that was supposed to be used for the traced process. Fix this by saving fpu register contents with save_fpu_regs() before using test_fp_ctl().

ring-buffer: Do not attempt to read past "commit"

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ring-buffer: Do not attempt to read past "commit" When iterating over the ring buffer while the ring buffer is active, the writer can corrupt the reader. There's barriers to help detect this and handle it, but that code missed the case where the last event was at the very end of the page and has only 4 bytes left. The checks to detect the corruption by the writer to reads needs to see the length of the event. If the length in the first 4 bytes is zero then the length is stored in the second 4 bytes. But if the writer is in the process of updating that code, there's a small window where the length in the first 4 bytes could be zero even though the length is only 4 bytes. That will cause rb_event_length() to read the next 4 bytes which could happen to be off the allocated page. To protect against this, fail immediately if the next event pointer is less than 8 bytes from the end of the commit (last byte of data), as all events must be a minimum of 8 bytes anyway.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: ath12k: fix possible out-of-bound read in ath12k_htt_pull_ppdu_stats() len is extracted from HTT message and could be an unexpected value in case errors happen, so add validation before using to avoid possible out-of-bound read in the following message iteration and parsing. The same issue also applies to ppdu_info->ppdu_stats.common.num_users, so validate it before using too. These are found during code review. Compile test only.

x86/alternatives: Disable KASAN in apply_alternatives()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: x86/alternatives: Disable KASAN in apply_alternatives() Fei has reported that KASAN triggers during apply_alternatives() on a 5-level paging machine: BUG: KASAN: out-of-bounds in rcu_is_watching() Read of size 4 at addr ff110003ee6419a0 by task swapper/0/0 ... __asan_load4() rcu_is_watching() trace_hardirqs_on() text_poke_early() apply_alternatives() ... On machines with 5-level paging, cpu_feature_enabled(X86_FEATURE_LA57) gets patched. It includes KASAN code, where KASAN_SHADOW_START depends on __VIRTUAL_MASK_SHIFT, which is defined with cpu_feature_enabled(). KASAN gets confused when apply_alternatives() patches the KASAN_SHADOW_START users. A test patch that makes KASAN_SHADOW_START static, by replacing __VIRTUAL_MASK_SHIFT with 56, works around the issue. Fix it for real by disabling KASAN while the kernel is patching alternatives. HID: intel-ish-hid: ipc: Disable and reenable ACPI GPE bit

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: HID: intel-ish-hid: ipc: Disable and reenable ACPI GPE bit The EHL (Elkhart Lake) based platforms provide a OOB (Out of band) service, which allows to wakup device when the system is in S5 (Soft-Off state). This OOB service can be enabled/disabled from BIOS settings. When enabled, the ISH device gets PME wake capability. To enable PME wakeup, driver also needs to enable ACPI GPE bit. On resume, BIOS will clear the wakeup bit. So driver need to re-enable it in resume function to keep the next wakeup capability. But this BIOS clearing of wakeup bit doesn't decrement internal OS GPE reference count, so this reenabling on every resume will cause reference count to overflow. So first disable and reenable ACPI GPE bit using acpi_disable_gpe().

nfc: nci: assert requested protocol is valid

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfc: nci: assert requested protocol is valid The protocol is used in a bit mask to determine if the protocol is supported. Assert the provided protocol is less than the maximum defined so it doesn't potentially perform a shift-out-of-bounds and provide a clearer error for undefined protocols vs unsupported ones.
