hfsplus: ensure sb->s_fs_info is always cleaned up

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: hfsplus: ensure sb->s_fs_info is always cleaned up When hfsplus was converted to the new mount api a bug was introduced by changing the allocation pattern of sb->s_fs_info. If setup_bdev_super() fails after a new superblock has been allocated by sget_fc(), but before hfsplus_fill_super() takes ownership of the filesystem-specific s_fs_info data it was leaked. Fix this by freeing sb->s_fs_info in hfsplus_kill_super().

fs/ntfs3: Initialize new folios before use

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fs/ntfs3: Initialize new folios before use KMSAN reports an uninitialized value in longest_match_std(), invoked from ntfs_compress_write(). When new folios are allocated without being marked uptodate and ni_read_frame() is skipped because the caller expects the frame to be completely overwritten, some reserved folios may remain only partially filled, leaving the rest memory uninitialized.

usb: dwc2: gadget: Fix spin_lock/unlock mismatch in dwc2_hsotg_udc_stop()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: dwc2: gadget: Fix spin_lock/unlock mismatch in dwc2_hsotg_udc_stop() dwc2_gadget_exit_clock_gating() internally calls call_gadget() macro, which expects hsotg->lock to be held since it does spin_unlock/spin_lock around the gadget driver callback invocation. However, dwc2_hsotg_udc_stop() calls dwc2_gadget_exit_clock_gating() without holding the lock. This leads to: - spin_unlock on a lock that is not held (undefined behavior) - The lock remaining held after dwc2_gadget_exit_clock_gating() returns, causing a deadlock when spin_lock_irqsave() is called later in the same function. Fix this by acquiring hsotg->lock before calling dwc2_gadget_exit_clock_gating() and releasing it afterwards, which satisfies the locking requirement of the call_gadget() macro.

wifi: rtw88: Use devm_kmemdup() in rtw_set_supported_band()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: rtw88: Use devm_kmemdup() in rtw_set_supported_band() Simplify the code by using device managed memory allocations. This also fixes a memory leak in rtw_register_hw(). The supported bands were not freed in the error path. Copied from commit 145df52a8671 ("wifi: rtw89: Convert rtw89_core_set_supported_band to use devm_*").

net: flow_dissector: use DEBUG_NET_WARN_ON_ONCE

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: flow_dissector: use DEBUG_NET_WARN_ON_ONCE The following splat is easy to reproduce upstream as well as in -stable kernels. Florian Westphal provided the following commit: d1dab4f71d37 ("net: add and use __skb_get_hash_symmetric_net") but this complementary fix has been also suggested by Willem de Bruijn and it can be easily backported to -stable kernel which consists in using DEBUG_NET_WARN_ON_ONCE instead to silence the following splat given __skb_get_hash() is used by the nftables tracing infrastructure to to identify packets in traces. wifi: mac80211: Discard Beacon frames to non-broadcast address

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: mac80211: Discard Beacon frames to non-broadcast address Beacon frames are required to be sent to the broadcast address, see IEEE Std 802.11-2020, 11.1.3.1 ("The Address 1 field of the Beacon .. frame shall be set to the broadcast address"). A unicast Beacon frame might be used as a targeted attack to get one of the associated STAs to do something (e.g., using CSA to move it to another channel). As such, it is better have strict filtering for this on the received side and discard all Beacon frames that are sent to an unexpected address. This is even more important for cases where beacon protection is used. The current implementation in mac80211 is correctly discarding unicast Beacon frames if the Protected Frame bit in the Frame Control field is set to 0. However, if that bit is set to 1, the logic used for checking for configured BIGTK(s) does not actually work. If the driver does not have logic for dropping unicast Beacon frames with Protected Frame bit 1, these frames would be accepted in mac80211 processing as valid Beacon frames even though they are not protected. This would allow beacon protection to be bypassed. While the logic for checking beacon protection could be extended to cover this corner case, a more generic check for discard all Beacon frames based on A1=unicast address covers this without needing additional changes. Address all these issues by dropping received Beacon frames if they are sent to a non-broadcast address.

hfs: ensure sb->s_fs_info is always cleaned up

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: hfs: ensure sb->s_fs_info is always cleaned up When hfs was converted to the new mount api a bug was introduced by changing the allocation pattern of sb->s_fs_info. If setup_bdev_super() fails after a new superblock has been allocated by sget_fc(), but before hfs_fill_super() takes ownership of the filesystem-specific s_fs_info data it was leaked. Fix this by freeing sb->s_fs_info in hfs_kill_super().

drm/xe/oa: Limit num_syncs to prevent oversized allocations

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/xe/oa: Limit num_syncs to prevent oversized allocations The OA open parameters did not validate num_syncs, allowing userspace to pass arbitrarily large values, potentially leading to excessive allocations. Add check to ensure that num_syncs does not exceed DRM_XE_MAX_SYNCS, returning -EINVAL when the limit is violated. v2: use XE_IOCTL_DBG() and drop duplicated check. ip6_gre: make ip6gre_header() robust

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ip6_gre: make ip6gre_header() robust Over the years, syzbot found many ways to crash the kernel in ip6gre_header() [1]. This involves team or bonding drivers ability to dynamically change their dev->needed_headroom and/or dev->hard_header_len In this particular crash mld_newpack() allocated an skb with a too small reserve/headroom, and by the time mld_sendpack() was called, syzbot managed to attach an ip6gre device. fs/ntfs3: fix ntfs_mount_options leak in ntfs_fill_super()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fs/ntfs3: fix ntfs_mount_options leak in ntfs_fill_super() In ntfs_fill_super(), the fc->fs_private pointer is set to NULL without first freeing the memory it points to. This causes the subsequent call to ntfs_fs_free() to skip freeing the ntfs_mount_options structure. This results in a kmemleak report: unreferenced object 0xff1100015378b800 (size 32): comm "mount", pid 582, jiffies 4294890685 hex dump (first 32 bytes): 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ed ff ed ff 00 04 00 00 ................ backtrace (crc ed541d8c): __kmalloc_cache_noprof+0x424/0x5a0 __ntfs_init_fs_context+0x47/0x590 alloc_fs_context+0x5d8/0x960 __x64_sys_fsopen+0xb1/0x190 do_syscall_64+0x50/0x1f0 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x76/0x7e This issue can be reproduced using the following commands: fallocate -l 100M test.file mount test.file /tmp/test Since sbi->options is duplicated from fc->fs_private and does not directly use the memory allocated for fs_private, it is unnecessary to set fc->fs_private to NULL. Additionally, this patch simplifies the code by utilizing the helper function put_mount_options() instead of open-coding the cleanup logic.

nfsd: fix nfsd_file reference leak in nfsd4_add_rdaccess_to_wrdeleg()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfsd: fix nfsd_file reference leak in nfsd4_add_rdaccess_to_wrdeleg() nfsd4_add_rdaccess_to_wrdeleg() unconditionally overwrites fp->fi_fds[O_RDONLY] with a newly acquired nfsd_file. However, if the client already has a SHARE_ACCESS_READ open from a previous OPEN operation, this action overwrites the existing pointer without releasing its reference, orphaning the previous reference. Additionally, the function originally stored the same nfsd_file pointer in both fp->fi_fds[O_RDONLY] and fp->fi_rdeleg_file with only a single reference. When put_deleg_file() runs, it clears fi_rdeleg_file and calls nfs4_file_put_access() to release the file. However, nfs4_file_put_access() only releases fi_fds[O_RDONLY] when the fi_access[O_RDONLY] counter drops to zero. If another READ open exists on the file, the counter remains elevated and the nfsd_file reference from the delegation is never released. This potentially causes open conflicts on that file. Then, on server shutdown, these leaks cause __nfsd_file_cache_purge() to encounter files with an elevated reference count that cannot be cleaned up, ultimately triggering a BUG() in kmem_cache_destroy() because there are still nfsd_file objects allocated in that cache.

MIPS: ftrace: Fix memory corruption when kernel is located beyond 32 bits

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: MIPS: ftrace: Fix memory corruption when kernel is located beyond 32 bits Since commit e424054000878 ("MIPS: Tracing: Reduce the overhead of dynamic Function Tracer"), the macro UASM_i_LA_mostly has been used, and this macro can generate more than 2 instructions. At the same time, the code in ftrace assumes that no more than 2 instructions can be generated, which is why it stores them in an int[2] array. However, as previously noted, the macro UASM_i_LA_mostly (and now UASM_i_LA) causes a buffer overflow when _mcount is beyond 32 bits. This leads to corruption of the variables located in the __read_mostly section. This corruption was observed because the variable __cpu_primary_thread_mask was corrupted, causing a hang very early during boot. This fix prevents the corruption by avoiding the generation of instructions if they could exceed 2 instructions in length. Fortunately, insn_la_mcount is only used if the instrumented code is located outside the kernel code section, so dynamic ftrace can still be used, albeit in a more limited scope. This is still preferable to corrupting memory and/or crashing the kernel.

net: nfc: fix deadlock between nfc_unregister_device and rfkill_fop_write

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: nfc: fix deadlock between nfc_unregister_device and rfkill_fop_write A deadlock can occur between nfc_unregister_device() and rfkill_fop_write() due to lock ordering inversion between device_lock and rfkill_global_mutex. The problematic lock order is: Thread A (rfkill_fop_write): rfkill_fop_write() mutex_lock(&rfkill_global_mutex) rfkill_set_block() nfc_rfkill_set_block() nfc_dev_down() device_lock(&dev->dev) <- waits for device_lock Thread B (nfc_unregister_device): nfc_unregister_device() device_lock(&dev->dev) rfkill_unregister() mutex_lock(&rfkill_global_mutex) <- waits for rfkill_global_mutex This creates a classic ABBA deadlock scenario. Fix this by moving rfkill_unregister() and rfkill_destroy() outside the device_lock critical section. Store the rfkill pointer in a local variable before releasing the lock, then call rfkill_unregister() after releasing device_lock. This change is safe because rfkill_fop_write() holds rfkill_global_mutex while calling the rfkill callbacks, and rfkill_unregister() also acquires rfkill_global_mutex before cleanup. Therefore, rfkill_unregister() will wait for any ongoing callback to complete before proceeding, and device_del() is only called after rfkill_unregister() returns, preventing any use-after-free. The similar lock ordering in nfc_register_device() (device_lock -> rfkill_global_mutex via rfkill_register) is safe because during registration the device is not yet in rfkill_list, so no concurrent rfkill operations can occur on this device.

spi: cadence-quadspi: Parse DT for flashes with the rest of the DT parsing

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: spi: cadence-quadspi: Parse DT for flashes with the rest of the DT parsing The recent refactoring of where runtime PM is enabled done in commit f1eb4e792bb1 ("spi: spi-cadence-quadspi: Enable pm runtime earlier to avoid imbalance") made the fact that when we do a pm_runtime_disable() in the error paths of probe() we can trigger a runtime disable which in turn results in duplicate clock disables. This is particularly likely to happen when there is missing or broken DT description for the flashes attached to the controller. Early on in the probe function we do a pm_runtime_get_noresume() since the probe function leaves the device in a powered up state but in the error path we can't assume that PM is enabled so we also manually disable everything, including clocks. This means that when runtime PM is active both it and the probe function release the same reference to the main clock for the IP, triggering warnings from the clock subsystem: [ 8.693719] clk:75:7 already disabled [ 8.693791] WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 185 at /usr/src/kernel/drivers/clk/clk.c:1188 clk_core_disable+0xa0/0xb ... We can, however, sidestep the issue for the flash descriptions by moving their parsing to when we parse the controller properties which also save us doing a bunch of setup which can never be used so let's do that.

But there are cases where we could avoid revalidation. Consider: 1 input -> j2 -> j3 2 input -> j2 -> j3 3 input -> j1 -> j2 -> j3 Then the second rule does not need to revalidate j2, and, by extension j3, because this was already checked during validation of the first rule. We need to validate it only for rule 3. This is needed because chain loop detection also ensures we do not exceed the jump stack: Just because we know that j2 is cycle free, its last jump might now exceed the allowed stack size. We also need to update all reachable chains with the new largest observed call depth. Care has to be taken to revalidate even if the chain depth won't be an issue: chain validation also ensures that expressions are not called from invalid base chains. For example, the masquerade expression can only be called from NAT postrouting base chains. Therefore we also need to keep record of the base chain context (type, hooknum) and revalidate if the chain becomes reachable from a different hook location.

net: mediatek: Fix potential NULL pointer dereference in dummy net_device handling

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: mediatek: Fix potential NULL pointer dereference in dummy net_device handling Move the freeing of the dummy net_device from mtk_free_dev() to mtk_remove(). Previously, if alloc_netdev_dummy() failed in mtk_probe(), eth->dummy_dev would be NULL. The error path would then call mtk_free_dev(), which in turn called free_netdev() assuming dummy_dev was allocated (but it was not), potentially causing a NULL pointer dereference. By moving free_netdev() to mtk_remove(), we ensure it's only called when mtk_probe() has succeeded and dummy_dev is fully allocated. This addresses a potential NULL pointer dereference detected by Smatch[1].

Revert "ALSA: firewire-lib: operate for period elapse event in process context"

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Revert "ALSA: firewire-lib: operate for period elapse event in process context" Commit 7ba5ca32fe6e ("ALSA: firewire-lib: operate for period elapse event in process context") removed the process context workqueue from amdtp_domain_stream_pcm_pointer() and update_pcm_pointers() to remove its overhead. ublk: fix deadlock when reading partition table

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ublk: fix deadlock when reading partition table When one process(such as udev) opens ublk block device (e.g., to read the partition table via bdev_open()), a deadlock[1] can occur: 1. bdev_open() grabs disk->open_mutex 2. The process issues read I/O to ublk backend to read partition table 3. In __ublk_complete_rq(), blk_update_request() or blk_mq_end_request() runs bio->bi_end_io() callbacks 4. If this triggers fput() on file descriptor of ublk block device, the work may be deferred to current task's task work (see fput() implementation) 5. This eventually calls blkdev_release() from the same context 6. blkdev_release() tries to grab disk->open_mutex again 7. Deadlock: same task waiting for a mutex it already holds The fix is to run blk_update_request() and blk_mq_end_request() with bottom halves disabled. This forces blkdev_release() to run in kernel work-queue context instead of current task work context, and allows ublk server to make forward progress, and avoids the deadlock. [axboe: rewrite comment in ublk]

MIPS: Octeon: Add PCIe link status check

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: MIPS: Octeon: Add PCIe link status check The standard PCIe configuration read-write interface is used to access the configuration space of the peripheral PCIe devices of the mips processor after the PCIe link surprise down, it can generate kernel panic caused by "Data bus error". So it is necessary to add PCIe link status check for system protection. When the PCIe link is down or in training, assigning a value of 0 to the configuration address can prevent read-write behavior to the configuration space of peripheral PCIe devices, thereby preventing kernel panic.

This implies a possible sleep and violates limitations of RCU read-side critical sections on non-PREEMPT systems. Sleeping within RCU read-side critical section might cause synchronize_rcu() returning early and break RCU protection, allowing a UAF to happen. The root cause of this issue could be described as follows: | Thread A | Thread B | | |ima_match_policy | | | rcu_read_lock | |ima_lsm_update_rule | | | synchronize_rcu | | | | kmalloc(GFP_KERNEL)| | | sleep | ==> synchronize_rcu returns early | kfree(entry) | | | | entry = entry->next| ==> UAF happens and entry now becomes NULL (or could be anything). | | entry->action | ==> Accessing entry might cause panic. To fix this issue, we are converting all kmalloc that is called within RCU read-side critical section to use GFP_ATOMIC. [PM: fixed missing comment, long lines, !CONFIG_IMA_LSM_RULES case]

mm: prevent derefencing NULL ptr in pfn_section_valid()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm: prevent derefencing NULL ptr in pfn_section_valid() Commit 5ec8e8ea8b77 ("mm/sparsemem: fix race in accessing memory_section->usage") changed pfn_section_valid() to add a READ_ONCE() call around "ms->usage" to fix a race with section_deactivate() where ms->usage can be cleared. The READ_ONCE() call, by itself, is not enough to prevent NULL pointer dereference. We need to check its value before dereferencing it.

drm/radeon: delete radeon_fence_process in is_signaled, no deadlock

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/radeon: delete radeon_fence_process in is_signaled, no deadlock Delete the attempt to progress the queue when checking if fence is signaled. This avoids deadlock. dma-fence_ops::signaled can be called with the fence lock in unknown state. For radeon, the fence lock is also the wait queue lock. This can cause a self deadlock when signaled() tries to make forward progress on the wait queue. But advancing the queue is unneeded because incorrectly returning false from signaled() is perfectly acceptable. (cherry picked from commit 527ba26e50ec2ca2be9c7c82f3ad42998a75d0db)

exfat: fix refcount leak in exfat_find

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: exfat: fix refcount leak in exfat_find Fix refcount leaks in `exfat_find` related to `exfat_get_dentry_set`. Therefore, `exfat_put_dentry_set` must be called after `exfat_get_dentry_set` to ensure refcount consistency. This patch relocate two checks to avoid possible leaks.

bpf: Fix overrunning reservations in ringbuf

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Fix overrunning reservations in ringbuf The BPF ring buffer internally is implemented as a power-of-2 sized circular buffer, with two logical and ever-increasing counters: consumer_pos is the consumer counter to show which logical position the consumer consumed the data, and producer_pos which is the producer counter denoting the amount of data reserved by all producers. Each time a record is reserved, the producer that "owns" the record will successfully advance producer counter. In user space each time a record is read, the consumer of the data advanced the consumer counter once it finished processing. Both counters are stored in separate pages so that from user space, the producer counter is read-only and the consumer counter is read-write. One aspect that simplifies and thus speeds up the implementation of both producers and consumers is how the data area is mapped twice contiguously back-to-back in the virtual memory, allowing to not take any special measures for samples that have to wrap around at the end of the circular buffer data area, because the next page after the last data page would be first data page again, and thus the sample will still appear completely contiguous in virtual memory. Each record has a struct bpf_ringbuf_hdr { u32 len; u32 pg_off; } header for book-keeping the length and offset, and is inaccessible to the BPF program. Helpers like bpf_ringbuf_reserve() return `(void *)hdr + BPF_RINGBUF_HDR_SZ` for the BPF program to use. Bing-Jhong and Muhammad reported that it is however possible to make a second allocated memory chunk overlapping with the first chunk and as a result, the BPF program is now able to edit first chunk's header. For example, consider the creation of a BPF_MAP_TYPE_RINGBUF map with size of 0x4000. Next, the consumer_pos is modified to 0x3000 /before/ a call to bpf_ringbuf_reserve() is made. This will allocate a chunk A, which is in [0x0,0x3008], and the BPF program is able to edit [0x8,0x3008]. Now, lets allocate a chunk B with size 0x3000. This will succeed because consumer_pos was edited ahead of time to pass the `new_prod_pos - cons_pos > rb->mask` check. Chunk B will be in range [0x3008,0x6010], and the BPF program is able to edit [0x3010,0x6010]. Due to the ring buffer memory layout mentioned earlier, the ranges [0x0,0x4000] and [0x4000,0x8000] point to the same data pages. This means that chunk B at [0x4000,0x4008] is chunk A's header. bpf_ringbuf_submit() / bpf_ringbuf_discard() use the header's pg_off to then locate the bpf_ringbuf itself via bpf_ringbuf_restore_from_rec(). Once chunk B modified chunk A's header, then bpf_ringbuf_commit() refers to the wrong page and could cause a crash. Fix it by calculating the oldest pending_pos and check whether the range from the oldest outstanding record to the newest would span beyond the ring buffer size. If that is the case, then reject the request. We've tested with the ring buffer benchmark in BPF selftests (./benchs/run_bench_ringbufs.sh) before/after the fix and while it seems a bit slower on some benchmarks, it is still not significantly enough to matter.

firmware: cs_dsp: Prevent buffer overrun when processing V2 alg headers

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: firmware: cs_dsp: Prevent buffer overrun when processing V2 alg headers Check that all fields of a V2 algorithm header fit into the available firmware data buffer. The wmfw V2 format introduced variable-length strings in the algorithm block header. This means the overall header length is variable, and the position of most fields varies depending on the length of the string fields. Each field must be checked to ensure that it does not overflow the firmware data buffer. As this ia bugfix patch, the fixes avoid making any significant change to the existing code. This makes it easier to review and less likely to introduce new bugs.

bpf: Do not let BPF test infra emit invalid GSO types to stack

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Do not let BPF test infra emit invalid GSO types to stack Yinhao et al. reported that their fuzzer tool was able to trigger a skb_warn_bad_offload() from netif_skb_features() -> gso_features_check(). When a BPF program - triggered via BPF test infra - pushes the packet to the loopback device via bpf_clone_redirect() then mentioned offload warning can be seen. GSO-related features are then rightfully disabled. We get into this situation due to convert___skb_to_skb() setting gso_segs and gso_size but not gso_type. Technically, it makes sense that this warning triggers since the GSO properties are malformed due to the gso_type. Potentially, the gso_type could be marked non-trustworthy through setting it at least to SKB_GSO_DODGY without any other specific assumptions, but that also feels wrong given we should not go further into the GSO engine in the first place. The checks were added in 121d57af308d ("gso: validate gso_type in GSO handlers") because there were malicious (syzbot) senders that combine a protocol with a non-matching gso_type. If we would want to drop such packets, gso_features_check() currently only returns feature flags via netif_skb_features(), so one location for potentially dropping such skbs could be validate_xmit_unreadable_skb(), but then otoh it would be an additional check in the fast-path for a very corner case. Given bpf_clone_redirect() is the only place where BPF test infra could emit such packets, lets reject them right there.

ksm: use range-walk function to jump over holes in scan_get_next_rmap_item

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ksm: use range-walk function to jump over holes in scan_get_next_rmap_item Currently, scan_get_next_rmap_item() walks every page address in a VMA to locate mergeable pages. This becomes highly inefficient when scanning large virtual memory areas that contain mostly unmapped regions, causing ksmd to use large amount of cpu without deduplicating much pages. This patch replaces the per-address lookup with a range walk using walk_page_range(). The range walker allows KSM to skip over entire unmapped holes in a VMA, avoiding unnecessary lookups. This problem was previously discussed in [1]. Consider the following test program which creates a 32 TiB mapping in the virtual address space but only populates a single page: #include <unistd.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <sys/mman.h> /* 32 TiB */ const size_t size = 32ul * 1024 * 1024 * 1024 * 1024; int main() { char *area = mmap(NULL, size, PROT_READ | PROT_WRITE, MAP_NORESERVE | MAP_PRIVATE | MAP_ANON, -1, 0); if (area == MAP_FAILED) { perror("mmap() failed\n"); return -1; } /* Populate a single page such that we get an anon_vma. */ *area = 0; /* Enable KSM. */ madvise(area, size, MADV_MERGEABLE); pause(); return 0; } $ ./ksm-sparse & $ echo 1 > /sys/kernel/mm/ksm/run Without this patch ksmd uses 100% of the cpu for a long time (more then 1 hour in my test machine) scanning all the 32 TiB virtual address space that contain only one mapped page. This makes ksmd essentially deadlocked not able to deduplicate anything of value. With this patch ksmd walks only the one mapped page and skips the rest of the 32 TiB virtual address space, making the scan fast using little cpu.
