vsock: fix recursive ->recvmsg calls

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vsock: fix recursive ->recvmsg calls After a vsock socket has been added to a BPF sockmap, its prot->recvmsg has been replaced with vsock_bpf_recvmsg(). Thus the following recursiion could happen: vsock_bpf_recvmsg() -> __vsock_recvmsg() -> vsock_connectible_recvmsg() -> prot->recvmsg() -> vsock_bpf_recvmsg() again We need to fix it by calling the original ->recvmsg() without any BPF sockmap logic in __vsock_recvmsg().

fsdax: force clear dirty mark if CoW

ice: fix crash on probe for DPLL enabled E810 LOM

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ice: fix crash on probe for DPLL enabled E810 LOM The E810 Lan On Motherboard (LOM) design is vendor specific. Intel provides the reference design, but it is up to vendor on the final product design. For some cases, like Linux DPLL support, the static values defined in the driver does not reflect the actual LOM design. Current implementation of dpll pins is causing the crash on probe of the ice driver for such DPLL enabled E810 LOM designs: WARNING: (...) at drivers/dpll/dpll_core.c:495 dpll_pin_get+0x2c4/0x330 ... Call Trace: <TASK> ? __warn+0x83/0x130 ? dpll_pin_get+0x2c4/0x330 ? report_bug+0x1b7/0x1d0 ? handle_bug+0x42/0x70 ? exc_invalid_op+0x18/0x70 ? asm_exc_invalid_op+0x1a/0x20 ? dpll_pin_get+0x117/0x330 ? dpll_pin_get+0x2c4/0x330 ? dpll_pin_get+0x117/0x330 ice_dpll_get_pins.isra.0+0x52/0xe0 [ice] ... The number of dpll pins enabled by LOM vendor is greater than expected and defined in the driver for Intel designed NICs, which causes the crash. Prevent the crash and allow generic pin initialization within Linux DPLL subsystem for DPLL enabled E810 LOM designs. Newly designed solution for described issue will be based on "per HW design" pin initialization. It requires pin information dynamically acquired from the firmware and is already in progress, planned for next-tree only.

mm/slab: fix warning caused by duplicate kmem_cache creation in kmem_buckets_create

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/slab: fix warning caused by duplicate kmem_cache creation in kmem_buckets_create Commit b035f5a6d852 ("mm: slab: reduce the kmalloc() minimum alignment if DMA bouncing possible") reduced ARCH_KMALLOC_MINALIGN to 8 on arm64. However, with KASAN_HW_TAGS enabled, arch_slab_minalign() becomes 16. This causes kmalloc_caches[*][8] to be aliased to kmalloc_caches[*][16], resulting in kmem_buckets_create() attempting to create a kmem_cache for size 16 twice. RDMA/mlx5: Move events notifier registration to be after device registration

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/mlx5: Move events notifier registration to be after device registration Move pkey change work initialization and cleanup from device resources stage to notifier stage, since this is the stage which handles this work events. Fix a race between the device deregistration and pkey change work by moving MLX5_IB_STAGE_DEVICE_NOTIFIER to be after MLX5_IB_STAGE_IB_REG in order to ensure that the notifier is deregistered before the device during cleanup. Which ensures there are no works that are being executed after the device has already unregistered which can cause the panic below. ipv6: fix a BUG in rt6_get_pcpu_route() under PREEMPT_RT

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipv6: fix a BUG in rt6_get_pcpu_route() under PREEMPT_RT On PREEMPT_RT kernels, after rt6_get_pcpu_route() returns NULL, the current task can be preempted. Another task running on the same CPU may then execute rt6_make_pcpu_route() and successfully install a pcpu_rt entry. When the first task resumes execution, its cmpxchg() in rt6_make_pcpu_route() will fail because rt6i_pcpu is no longer NULL, triggering the BUG_ON(prev). It's easy to reproduce it by adding mdelay() after rt6_get_pcpu_route(). Using preempt_disable/enable is not appropriate here because ip6_rt_pcpu_alloc() may sleep. Fix this by handling the cmpxchg() failure gracefully on PREEMPT_RT: free our allocation and return the existing pcpu_rt installed by another task. The BUG_ON is replaced by WARN_ON_ONCE for non-PREEMPT_RT kernels where such races should not occur.

Fix page corruption caused by racy check in __free_pages

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Fix page corruption caused by racy check in __free_pages When we upgraded our kernel, we started seeing some page corruption like the following consistently: BUG: Bad page state in process ganesha.nfsd pfn:1304ca page:0000000022261c55 refcount:0 mapcount:-128 mapping:0000000000000000 index:0x0 pfn:0x1304ca flags: 0x17ffffc0000000() raw: 0017ffffc0000000 ffff8a513ffd4c98 ffffeee24b35ec08 0000000000000000 raw: 0000000000000000 0000000000000001 00000000ffffff7f 0000000000000000 page dumped because: nonzero mapcount CPU: 0 PID: 15567 Comm: ganesha.nfsd Kdump: loaded Tainted: P B O 5.10.158-1.nutanix.20221209.el7.x86_64 #1 Hardware name: VMware, Inc. Sometimes, it would also show up as corruption in the free list pointer and cause crashes. After bisecting the issue, we found the issue started from commit e320d3012d25 ("mm/page_alloc.c: fix freeing non-compound pages"): if (put_page_testzero(page)) free_the_page(page, order); else if (!PageHead(page)) while (order-- > 0) free_the_page(page + (1 << order), order); So the problem is the check PageHead is racy because at this point we already dropped our reference to the page. So even if we came in with compound page, the page can already be freed and PageHead can return false and we will end up freeing all the tail pages causing double free.

Specifically, a VMA which has a valid pointer to vma->vm_userfaultfd_ctx, but no UFFD flags in vma->vm_flags. The inconsistency is caused in ksm_madvise(): when user calls madvise() with MADV_UNMEARGEABLE on a VMA that is registered for UFFD in MINOR mode, it accidentally clears all flags stored in the upper 32 bits of vma->vm_flags. Assuming x86_64 kernel build, unsigned long is 64-bit and unsigned int and int are 32-bit wide. This setup causes the following mishap during the &= ~VM_MERGEABLE assignment. VM_MERGEABLE is a 32-bit constant of type unsigned int, 0x8000'0000. After ~ is applied, it becomes 0x7fff'ffff unsigned int, which is then promoted to unsigned long before the & operation. This promotion fills upper 32 bits with leading 0s, as we're doing unsigned conversion (and even for a signed conversion, this wouldn't help as the leading bit is 0). & operation thus ends up AND-ing vm_flags with 0x0000'0000'7fff'ffff instead of intended 0xffff'ffff'7fff'ffff and hence accidentally clears the upper 32-bits of its value. Fix it by changing `VM_MERGEABLE` constant to unsigned long, using the BIT() macro. Note: other VM_* flags are not affected: This only happens to the VM_MERGEABLE flag, as the other VM_* flags are all constants of type int and after ~ operation, they end up with leading 1 and are thus converted to unsigned long with leading 1s. Note 2: After commit 31defc3b01d9 ("userfaultfd: remove (VM_)BUG_ON()s"), this is no longer a kernel BUG, but a WARNING at the same place: [ 45.595973] WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 2474 at mm/userfaultfd.c:2067 but the root-cause (flag-drop) remains the same. net/sched: Fix backlog accounting in qdisc_dequeue_internal

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/sched: Fix backlog accounting in qdisc_dequeue_internal This issue applies for the following qdiscs: hhf, fq, fq_codel, and fq_pie, and occurs in their change handlers when adjusting to the new limit. The problem is the following in the values passed to the subsequent qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog call given a tbf parent: When the tbf parent runs out of tokens, skbs of these qdiscs will be placed in gso_skb. Their peek handlers are qdisc_peek_dequeued, which accounts for both qlen and backlog. However, in the case of qdisc_dequeue_internal, ONLY qlen is accounted for when pulling from gso_skb. This means that these qdiscs are missing a qdisc_qstats_backlog_dec when dropping packets to satisfy the new limit in their change handlers. One can observe this issue with the following (with tc patched to support a limit of 0): export TARGET=fq tc qdisc del dev lo root tc qdisc add dev lo root handle 1: tbf rate 8bit burst 100b latency 1ms tc qdisc replace dev lo handle 3: parent 1:1 $TARGET limit 1000 echo ''; echo 'add child'; tc -s -d qdisc show dev lo ping -I lo -f -c2 -s32 -W0.001 127.0.0.1 2>&1 >/dev/null echo ''; echo 'after ping'; tc -s -d qdisc show dev lo tc qdisc change dev lo handle 3: parent 1:1 $TARGET limit 0 echo ''; echo 'after limit drop'; tc -s -d qdisc show dev lo tc qdisc replace dev lo handle 2: parent 1:1 sfq echo ''; echo 'post graft'; tc -s -d qdisc show dev lo The second to last show command shows 0 packets but a positive number (74) of backlog bytes. The problem becomes clearer in the last show command, where qdisc_purge_queue triggers qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog with the positive backlog and causes an underflow in the tbf parent's backlog (4096 Mb instead of 0). To fix this issue, the codepath for all clients of qdisc_dequeue_internal has been simplified: codel, pie, hhf, fq, fq_pie, and fq_codel. qdisc_dequeue_internal handles the backlog adjustments for all cases that do not directly use the dequeue handler. The old fq_codel_change limit adjustment loop accumulated the arguments to the subsequent qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog call through the cstats field. However, this is confusing and error prone as fq_codel_dequeue could also potentially mutate this field (which qdisc_dequeue_internal calls in the non gso_skb case), so we have unified the code here with other qdiscs.

ice: fix Tx scheduler error handling in XDP callback

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ice: fix Tx scheduler error handling in XDP callback When the XDP program is loaded, the XDP callback adds new Tx queues. This means that the callback must update the Tx scheduler with the new queue number. In the event of a Tx scheduler failure, the XDP callback should also fail and roll back any changes previously made for XDP preparation. The previous implementation had a bug that not all changes made by the XDP callback were rolled back. phy: qcom-qmp-usb: Fix an NULL vs IS_ERR() bug

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: phy: qcom-qmp-usb: Fix an NULL vs IS_ERR() bug The qmp_usb_iomap() helper function currently returns the raw result of devm_ioremap() for non-exclusive mappings. Since devm_ioremap() may return a NULL pointer and the caller only checks error pointers with IS_ERR(), NULL could bypass the check and lead to an invalid dereference. Fix the issue by checking if devm_ioremap() returns NULL. When it does, qmp_usb_iomap() now returns an error pointer via IOMEM_ERR_PTR(-ENOMEM), ensuring safe and consistent error handling.

Revert "riscv: Define TASK_SIZE_MAX for __access_ok()"

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Revert "riscv: Define TASK_SIZE_MAX for __access_ok()" This reverts commit ad5643cf2f69 ("riscv: Define TASK_SIZE_MAX for __access_ok()"). This commit changes TASK_SIZE_MAX to be LONG_MAX to optimize access_ok(), because the previous TASK_SIZE_MAX (default to TASK_SIZE) requires some computation. The reasoning was that all user addresses are less than LONG_MAX, and all kernel addresses are greater than LONG_MAX. Therefore access_ok() can filter kernel addresses. Addresses between TASK_SIZE and LONG_MAX are not valid user addresses, but access_ok() let them pass. That was thought to be okay, because they are not valid addresses at hardware level. Unfortunately, one case is missed: get_user_pages_fast() happily accepts addresses between TASK_SIZE and LONG_MAX. futex(), for instance, uses get_user_pages_fast(). This causes the problem reported by Robert [1]. Therefore, revert this commit. TASK_SIZE_MAX is changed to the default: TASK_SIZE. This unfortunately reduces performance, because TASK_SIZE is more expensive to compute compared to LONG_MAX. But correctness first, we can think about optimization later, if required.

slab: ensure slab->obj_exts is clear in a newly allocated slab page

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: slab: ensure slab->obj_exts is clear in a newly allocated slab page ktest recently reported crashes while running several buffered io tests with __alloc_tagging_slab_alloc_hook() at the top of the crash call stack. The signature indicates an invalid address dereference with low bits of slab->obj_exts being set. The bits were outside of the range used by page_memcg_data_flags and objext_flags and hence were not masked out by slab_obj_exts() when obtaining the pointer stored in slab->obj_exts. PCI: pnv_php: Clean up allocated IRQs on unplug

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: PCI: pnv_php: Clean up allocated IRQs on unplug When the root of a nested PCIe bridge configuration is unplugged, the pnv_php driver leaked the allocated IRQ resources for the child bridges' hotplug event notifications, resulting in a panic. Fix this by walking all child buses and deallocating all its IRQ resources before calling pci_hp_remove_devices(). Also modify the lifetime of the workqueue at struct pnv_php_slot::wq so that it is only destroyed in pnv_php_free_slot(), instead of pnv_php_disable_irq(). This is required since pnv_php_disable_irq() will now be called by workers triggered by hot unplug interrupts, so the workqueue needs to stay allocated. The abridged kernel panic that occurs without this patch is as follows: WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 687 at kernel/irq/msi.c:292 msi_device_data_release+0x6c/0x9c CPU: 0 UID: 0 PID: 687 Comm: bash Not tainted 6.14.0-rc5+ #2 Call Trace: msi_device_data_release+0x34/0x9c (unreliable) release_nodes+0x64/0x13c devres_release_all+0xc0/0x140 device_del+0x2d4/0x46c pci_destroy_dev+0x5c/0x194 pci_hp_remove_devices+0x90/0x128 pci_hp_remove_devices+0x44/0x128 pnv_php_disable_slot+0x54/0xd4 power_write_file+0xf8/0x18c pci_slot_attr_store+0x40/0x5c sysfs_kf_write+0x64/0x78 kernfs_fop_write_iter+0x1b0/0x290 vfs_write+0x3bc/0x50c ksys_write+0x84/0x140 system_call_exception+0x124/0x230 system_call_vectored_common+0x15c/0x2ec [bhelgaas: tidy comments]

rtl818x: Prevent using not initialized queues

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: rtl818x: Prevent using not initialized queues Using not existing queues can panic the kernel with rtl8180/rtl8185 cards. Ignore the skb priority for those cards, they only have one tx queue. Pierre Asselin (pa@panix.com) reported the kernel crash in the Gentoo forum: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1147832-postdays-0-postorder-asc-start-25.html He also confirmed that this patch fixes the issue. In summary this happened: After updating wpa_supplicant from 2.9 to 2.10 the kernel crashed with a "divide error: 0000" when connecting to an AP. Control port tx now tries to use IEEE80211_AC_VO for the priority, which wpa_supplicants starts to use in 2.10. Since only the rtl8187se part of the driver supports QoS, the priority of the skb is set to IEEE80211_AC_BE (2) by mac80211 for rtl8180/rtl8185 cards. rtl8180 is then unconditionally reading out the priority and finally crashes on drivers/net/wireless/realtek/rtl818x/rtl8180/dev.c line 544 without this patch: idx = (ring->idx + skb_queue_len(&ring->queue)) % ring->entries "ring->entries" is zero for rtl8180/rtl8185 cards, tx_ring[2] never got initialized.

irqchip/realtek-rtl: Fix refcount leak in map_interrupts

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: irqchip/realtek-rtl: Fix refcount leak in map_interrupts of_find_node_by_phandle() returns a node pointer with refcount incremented, we should use of_node_put() on it when not need anymore. This function doesn't call of_node_put() in error path. Call of_node_put() directly after of_property_read_u32() to cover both normal path and error path.

net: wwan: iosm: fix memory leak in ipc_pcie_read_bios_cfg

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: wwan: iosm: fix memory leak in ipc_pcie_read_bios_cfg ipc_pcie_read_bios_cfg() is using the acpi_evaluate_dsm() to obtain the wwan power state configuration from BIOS but is not freeing the acpi_object. The acpi_evaluate_dsm() returned acpi_object to be freed. Free the acpi_object after use.

PCI: Avoid pci_dev_lock() AB/BA deadlock with sriov_numvfs_store()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: PCI: Avoid pci_dev_lock() AB/BA deadlock with sriov_numvfs_store() The sysfs sriov_numvfs_store() path acquires the device lock before the config space access lock: sriov_numvfs_store device_lock # A (1) acquire device lock sriov_configure vfio_pci_sriov_configure # (for example) vfio_pci_core_sriov_configure pci_disable_sriov sriov_disable pci_cfg_access_lock pci_wait_cfg # B (4) wait for dev->block_cfg_access == 0 Previously, pci_dev_lock() acquired the config space access lock before the device lock: pci_dev_lock pci_cfg_access_lock dev->block_cfg_access = 1 # B (2) set dev->block_cfg_access = 1 device_lock # A (3) wait for device lock Any path that uses pci_dev_lock(), e.g., pci_reset_function(), may deadlock with sriov_numvfs_store() if the operations occur in the sequence (1) (2) (3) (4). Avoid the deadlock by reversing the order in pci_dev_lock() so it acquires the device lock before the config space access lock, the same as the sriov_numvfs_store() path. bpf: Fix wrong reg type conversion in release_reference()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Fix wrong reg type conversion in release_reference() Some helper functions will allocate memory. To avoid memory leaks, the verifier requires the eBPF program to release these memories by calling the corresponding helper functions. When a resource is released, all pointer registers corresponding to the resource should be invalidated. The verifier use release_references() to do this job, by apply __mark_reg_unknown() to each relevant register. It will give these registers the type of SCALAR_VALUE. A register that will contain a pointer value at runtime, but of type SCALAR_VALUE, which may allow the unprivileged user to get a kernel pointer by storing this register into a map. Using __mark_reg_not_init() while NOT allow_ptr_leaks can mitigate this problem.

wifi: mac80211: Don't finalize CSA in IBSS mode if state is disconnected

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: mac80211: Don't finalize CSA in IBSS mode if state is disconnected When we are not connected to a channel, sending channel "switch" announcement doesn't make any sense. The BSS list is empty in that case. This causes the for loop in cfg80211_get_bss() to be bypassed, so the function returns NULL (check line 1424 of net/wireless/scan.c), causing the WARN_ON() in ieee80211_ibss_csa_beacon() to get triggered (check line 500 of net/mac80211/ibss.c), which was consequently reported on the syzkaller dashboard. Thus, check if we have an existing connection before generating the CSA beacon in ieee80211_ibss_finish_csa().
