When using $changestreams and $_requestReshardingResumeToken with the exchange option the server hits an invariant which causes the server to crash. There are no special privileges needed. The user must be logged in to issue the statement.
This issue can occur when running an aggregation pipeline that uses the internal $exchange stage configured with key-range partitioning and order-preserving delivery. If a single key range produces enough documents to fill its exchange buffer (that is, many results are routed to the same consumer), the server reaches the code path where a full per-consumer buffer is detected but the internal "high watermark" for that key range is not updated as intended.
An authenticated user can cause a MongoDB server to crash or return incorrect results by creating documents that interfere with internal metadata processing during query execution. This stems from insufficient separation between user-controlled document fields and internal metadata in certain execution paths.
An authorized user could trigger a server crash by running a query with a 2dsphere index on a field that stores a GeoJSON GeometryCollection containing a Polygon with a strict-winding CRS. Strict-winding polygons are intentionally unsupported for indexing, but the guard that rejects them does not inspect members of a GeometryCollection, allowing the unsafe path to be reached which ends with an ensuing null-pointer dereference.
During query planning when reading the sort pattern in raw BSONObj form, in some places we don’t explicitly handle the meta expression case. This may lead to incorrect transformations leading to invariant failure.
Adding fromRouter:true and runtimeConstants.userRoles could cause aggregations to crash mongodb server.
Computing the MD5 checksum of a malformed BSON object under specific conditions may cause loss of availability in MongoDB server. This issue affects all MongoDB Server v8.2 versions, all MongoDB Server v8.1 versions, MongoDB Server v8.0 versions prior to 8.0.21, MongoDB Server v7.0 versions prior to 7.0.32
In MongoDB Server 8.0, an aggregation stage can leave its _subPipeline field null during processing of certain pipelines. If a getMore is subsequently issued on the same cursor, the server may dereference this null sub-pipeline when reattaching to the operation context, accessing an invalid address and crashing the process. This issue allows an authenticated user who can run aggregation pipelines to cause a denial of service by issuing a specially crafted aggregation followed by getMore on affected versions.
The $_internalConvertBucketIndexStats stage used PauseExecution as a way to signal "skip this document" when an index stats conversion failed. But PauseExecution is not a general purpose skip mechanism, but rather a TeeBuffer-internal signal used solely by $facet to coordinate its sub-pipelines. When this stage is placed before $facet in a pipeline, TeeBuffer receives the unexpected PauseExecution from upstream and hits a hard invariant assertion, crashing mongod.
Using expressions that generate large arrays it is possible to craft a query that creates very large intermediate objects in memory, causing the server to crash with OOM error.
An authenticated user with basic write privileges can cause the mongod process to terminate abnormally by sending a crafted transaction command with an incomplete set of required fields. The issue stems from inconsistent validation across related transaction command parameters, resulting in a fatal internal invariant failure and denial of service.
Certain query operations involving deeply nested $jsonSchema constructs can trigger disproportionate CPU consumption in affected MongoDB deployments, potentially leading to resource exhaustion. The resulting CPU-bound operation cannot be interrupted through standard administrative controls.
A user with read-only privileges is able to craft an aggregation pipeline using the $linearFill window function operator with a specific sortBy expression type to cause the mongod process to terminate abnormally, resulting in denial of service. The issue stems from insufficient validation of sort specifications during execution.
An authenticated user can cause excessive CPU consumption or out-of-memory conditions on a MongoDB server by sending a crafted Queryable Encryption find payload containing an unvalidated field used to control an internal computation loop. The resulting resource exhaustion degrades availability for other operations.
The `$_internalIndexKey` aggregation expression can be used by any authenticated user to crash a MongoDB server (mongod). The expression fails to handle compound wildcard index specifications, triggering an internal consistency check that aborts the server process. The user must be able to run an aggregation pipeline.
An authenticated user can cause the mongod process to be terminated by the operating system under memory pressure via the $rankFusion and $scoreFusion aggregation stages. The issue originates in the server's error-handling path and requires the ability to run aggregation queries.
An authenticated user can cause a {{mongod}} process to be terminated by the operating system under memory pressure by performing a specific data type conversion operation within MongoDB's aggregation framework. The behavior stems from disproportionate memory consumption during this operation, and requires both write access to the database and the ability to run aggregation queries.
User-controlled chunkSize metadata from MongoDB lacks appropriate validation allowing malformed GridFS metadata to overflow the bounding container.
A use-after-free vulnerability exists in MongoDB Server's server-side JavaScript engine when converting BSON documents to JavaScript arrays. An authenticated user with read privileges who is able to run server-side JavaScript (for example, via $where or $function) can cause the server to access memory that has already been freed. This may result in disclosure of information from the mongod process memory or a denial of service through a server crash.
Transient DOS while parsing fragments of MBSSID IE from beacon frame.
Use after free in some Zoom Workplace Apps and SDKs may allow an authenticated user to conduct a denial of service via network access.
After invoking $_internalJsEmit, which is not intended to be directly accessible, or mapreduce command’s map function in a certain way, an authenticated user can subsequently crash mongod when the server-side JavaScript engine (through $where, $function, mapreduce reduce stage, etc.) is used also in a specific way, resulting in a post-authentication denial-of-service. This issue impacts MongoDB Server v8.2 versions prior to 8.2.9 and v8.3 versions prior to 8.3.2.
Use after free in some Zoom Workplace Apps and SDKs may allow an authenticated user to conduct a denial of service via network access.
Use after free in Windows Virtual Filtering Platform (VFP) allows an authorized attacker to deny service over a network.
A use-after-free flaw was found in all samba LDAP server versions before 4.10.17, before 4.11.11, before 4.12.4 used in a AC DC configuration. A Samba LDAP user could use this flaw to crash samba.
A user authorized to perform database queries may trigger denial of service by issuing specially crafted queries, which use $lookup and collations. This issue affects MongoDB Server v4.2 versions prior to 4.2.1; MongoDB Server v4.0 versions prior to 4.0.13 and MongoDB Server v3.6 versions prior to 3.6.15.
A security flaw has been discovered in Open5GS up to 2.7.7. Affected by this issue is the function discover_handler in the library /lib/sbi/nghttp2-server.c of the component NRF. The manipulation results in use after free. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploit has been released to the public and may be used for attacks. The project was informed of the problem early through an issue report but has not responded yet.
There is a use-after-free issue in all samba 4.9.x versions before 4.9.18, all samba 4.10.x versions before 4.10.12 and all samba 4.11.x versions before 4.11.5, essentially due to a call to realloc() while other local variables still point at the original buffer.
A use-after-free flaw was found in smb2_is_status_io_timeout() in CIFS in the Linux Kernel. After CIFS transfers response data to a system call, there are still local variable points to the memory region, and if the system call frees it faster than CIFS uses it, CIFS will access a free memory region, leading to a denial of service.
A use-after-free flaw was found in setup_async_work in the KSMBD implementation of the in-kernel samba server and CIFS in the Linux kernel. This issue could allow an attacker to crash the system by accessing freed work.
A Use After Free vulnerability in the chassis daemon (chassisd) of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows a network-based attacker authenticated with low privileges to cause a Denial-of-Service (DoS). When telemetry collectors are frequently subscribing and unsubscribing to sensors continuously over a long period of time, telemetry-capable processes like chassisd, rpd or mib2d will crash and restart, which - depending on the process - can cause a complete outage until the system has recovered. This issue affects: Â Junos OS:Â * all versions before 22.4R3-S8, * 23.2 versions before 23.2R2-S5, * 23.4 versions before 23.4R2; Junos OS Evolved: * all versions before 22.4R3-S8-EVO, * 23.2 versions before 23.2R2-S5-EVO, * 23.4 versions before 23.4R2-EVO.
A use-after-free in res_pjsip_pubsub.c in Sangoma Asterisk 16.28, 18.14, 19.6, and certified/18.9-cert2 may allow a remote authenticated attacker to crash Asterisk (denial of service) by performing activity on a subscription via a reliable transport at the same time that Asterisk is also performing activity on that subscription.
Samba from version 4.3.0 and before versions 4.7.12, 4.8.7 and 4.9.3 are vulnerable to a denial of service. When configured to accept smart-card authentication, Samba's KDC will call talloc_free() twice on the same memory if the principal in a validly signed certificate does not match the principal in the AS-REQ. This is only possible after authentication with a trusted certificate. talloc is robust against further corruption from a double-free with talloc_free() and directly calls abort(), terminating the KDC process.
IBM MQ Operator LTS 2.0.0 through 2.0.29, MQ Operator CD 3.0.0, 3.0.1, 3.1.0 through 3.1.3, 3.3.0, 3.4.0, 3.4.1, 3.5.0, 3.5.1, and MQ Operator SC2 3.2.0 through 3.2.10Â Client connecting to a MQ Queue Manager can cause a SIGSEGV in the AMQRMPPA channel process terminating it.
Envoy is an open source edge and service proxy designed for cloud-native applications. Prior to versions 1.27.0, 1.26.4, 1.25.9, 1.24.10, and 1.23.12, gRPC access loggers using listener's global scope can cause a `use-after-free` crash when the listener is drained. Versions 1.27.0, 1.26.4, 1.25.9, 1.24.10, and 1.23.12 have a fix for this issue. As a workaround, disable gRPC access log or stop listener update.
An IBM MQ 9.3 and 9.4 Client connecting to an MQ Queue Manager can cause a SIGSEGV in the AMQRMPPA channel process terminating it.
Tensorflow is an Open Source Machine Learning Framework. A malicious user can cause a use after free behavior when decoding PNG images. After `png::CommonFreeDecode(&decode)` gets called, the values of `decode.width` and `decode.height` are in an unspecified state. The fix will be included in TensorFlow 2.8.0. We will also cherrypick this commit on TensorFlow 2.7.1, TensorFlow 2.6.3, and TensorFlow 2.5.3, as these are also affected and still in supported range.
ComponentInstaller Modification in ComponentInstaller in Google ChromeOS 15823.23.0 on Chromebooks allows enrolled users with local access to unenroll devices and intercept device management requests via loading components from the unencrypted stateful partition.
An authorized user may crash the MongoDB server by causing buffer over-read. This can be done by issuing a DDL operation while queries are being issued, under some conditions. This issue affects MongoDB Server v7.0 versions prior to 7.0.25, MongoDB Server v8.0 versions prior to 8.0.15, and MongoDB Server version 8.2.0.
libyang before 5.2.6 contains a heap use-after-free write vulnerability in lyd_parser_set_data_flags that incorrectly updates metadata list pointers when freeing non-head default metadata entries. Attackers can trigger this vulnerability by submitting crafted YANG XML documents with specific metadata attributes to applications parsing untrusted XML data, causing process crashes or potential code execution.
An issue was discovered in InspIRCd 3 before 3.1.0. The silence module contains a use after free vulnerability. This vulnerability can be used for remote crashing of an InspIRCd server by any user able to fully connect to a server.
Envoy is an open source edge and service proxy designed for cloud-native applications. From 1.34.0 until 1.35.13, 1.36.9, 1.37.5, and 1.38.3, Envoy crashes if an ext_proc server sends a single gRPC message containing multiple, specially crafted ProcessingResponse messages. This can occur when the first response in the batch causes the gRPC stream object to be destroyed, leading to a use-after-free error when Envoy attempts to process subsequent responses in the same gRPC message. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.35.13, 1.36.9, 1.37.5, and 1.38.3.
A use-after-free flaw was found in libvirt. The qemuMonitorUnregister() function in qemuProcessHandleMonitorEOF is called using multiple threads without being adequately protected by a monitor lock. This flaw could be triggered by the virConnectGetAllDomainStats API when the guest is shutting down. An unprivileged client with a read-only connection could use this flaw to perform a denial of service attack by causing the libvirt daemon to crash.
Use-after-free vulnerability in kadmin/server/server_stubs.c in kadmind in MIT Kerberos 5 (aka krb5) 1.5 through 1.6.3 allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (daemon crash) via a request from a kadmin client that sends an invalid API version number.
An issue was discovered in InspIRCd 2 before 2.0.29 and 3 before 3.6.0. The pgsql module contains a use after free vulnerability. When combined with the sqlauth or sqloper modules, this vulnerability can be used for remote crashing of an InspIRCd server by any user able to connect to a server.
A NULL pointer dereference, or possible use-after-free flaw was found in Samba AD LDAP server in versions before 4.10.17, before 4.11.11 and before 4.12.4. Although some versions of Samba shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux do not support Samba in AD mode, the affected code is shipped with the libldb package. This flaw allows an authenticated user to possibly trigger a use-after-free or NULL pointer dereference. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to system availability.
A vulnerability in the Internet Key Exchange Version 2 (IKEv2) implementation of Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software and Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) Software could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to trigger a denial of service (DoS) condition on an affected device. This vulnerability is due to improper control of a resource. An attacker with the ability to spoof a trusted IKEv2 site-to-site VPN peer and in possession of valid IKEv2 credentials for that peer could exploit this vulnerability by sending malformed, authenticated IKEv2 messages to an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to trigger a reload of the device.
Envoy is an open source edge and service proxy. Envoy versions earlier than 1.36.2, 1.35.6, 1.34.10, and 1.33.12 contain a use-after-free vulnerability in the Lua filter. When a Lua script executing in the response phase rewrites a response body so that its size exceeds the configured per_connection_buffer_limit_bytes (default 1MB), Envoy generates a local reply whose headers override the original response headers, leaving dangling references and causing a crash. This results in denial of service. Updating to versions 1.36.2, 1.35.6, 1.34.10, or 1.33.12 fixes the issue. Increasing per_connection_buffer_limit_bytes (and for HTTP/2 the initial_stream_window_size) or increasing per_request_buffer_limit_bytes / request_body_buffer_limit can reduce the likelihood of triggering the condition but does not correct the underlying memory safety flaw.
nanomq 0.21.2 contains a Use-After-Free vulnerability in /nanomq/nng/src/core/socket.c.
