memcg: use round-robin victim selection in refill_stock

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: memcg: use round-robin victim selection in refill_stock Harry Yoo reported that get_random_u32_below() is not safe to call in the nmi context and memcg charge draining can happen in nmi context. More specifically get_random_u32_below() is neither reentrant- nor NMI-safe: it acquires a per-cpu local_lock via local_lock_irqsave() on the batched_entropy_u32 state. An NMI that lands on a CPU mid-update of the ChaCha batch state and recurses into the random subsystem would corrupt that state. The memcg_stock local_trylock prevents re-entry on the percpu stock itself, but cannot protect an unrelated subsystem's per-cpu lock. Replace the random pick with a per-cpu round-robin counter stored in memcg_stock_pcp and serialized by the same local_trylock that already guards cached[] and nr_pages[]. No atomics, no random calls, no extra locks needed.

quota: Fix race of dquot_scan_active() with quota deactivation

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: quota: Fix race of dquot_scan_active() with quota deactivation dquot_scan_active() can race with quota deactivation in quota_release_workfn() like: CPU0 (quota_release_workfn) CPU1 (dquot_scan_active) ============================== ============================== spin_lock(&dq_list_lock); list_replace_init( &releasing_dquots, &rls_head); /* dquot X on rls_head, dq_count == 0, DQ_ACTIVE_B still set */ spin_unlock(&dq_list_lock); synchronize_srcu(&dquot_srcu); spin_lock(&dq_list_lock); list_for_each_entry(dquot, &inuse_list, dq_inuse) { /* finds dquot X */ dquot_active(X) -> true atomic_inc(&X->dq_count); } spin_unlock(&dq_list_lock); spin_lock(&dq_list_lock); dquot = list_first_entry(&rls_head); WARN_ON_ONCE(atomic_read(&dquot->dq_count)); The problem is not only a cosmetic one as under memory pressure the caller of dquot_scan_active() can end up working on freed dquot. Fix the problem by making sure the dquot is removed from releasing list when we acquire a reference to it.

l2tp: pppol2tp: hold reference to session in pppol2tp_ioctl()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: l2tp: pppol2tp: hold reference to session in pppol2tp_ioctl() pppol2tp_ioctl() read sock->sk->sk_user_data directly without any locks or reference counting. If a controllable sleep was induced during copy_from_user() (e.g. via a userfaultfd page fault sleep), a concurrent socket close could trigger pppol2tp_session_close() asynchronously. This frees the l2tp_session structure via the l2tp_session_del_work workqueue. Upon resuming, the ioctl thread dereferences the stale session pointer, resulting in a Use-After-Free (UAF). Fix this by securely fetching the session reference using the RCU-safe, refcounted helper pppol2tp_sock_to_session(sk) on entry. This locks the session's refcount across the sleep. We structured the function to exit via standard err breaks, guaranteeing that l2tp_session_put() is cleanly called on all return paths to drop the reference. To preserve existing behavior we validate the session and its magic signature only for the specific L2TP commands that require it. This ensures that generic/unknown ioctls called on an unconnected socket still return -ENOIOCTLCMD and correctly fall back to generic handlers (e.g. in sock_do_ioctl()).

netfilter: ebtables: fix OOB read in compat_mtw_from_user

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: ebtables: fix OOB read in compat_mtw_from_user Luxiao Xu says: The function compat_mtw_from_user() converts ebtables extensions from 32-bit user structures to kernel native structures. However, it lacks proper validation of the user-supplied match_size/target_size. When certain extensions are processed, the kernel-side translation logic may perform memory accesses based on the extension's expected size. If the user provides a size smaller than what the extension requires, it results in an out-of-bounds read as reported by KASAN. This fix introduces a check to ensure match_size is at least as large as the extension's required compatsize. This covers matches, watchers, and targets, while maintaining compatibility with standard targets. AFAIU this is relevant for matches that need to go though match->compat_from_user() call. Those that use plain memcpy with the user-provided size are ok because the caller checks that size vs the start of the next rule entry offset (which itself is checked vs. total size copied from userspace). The ->compat_from_user() callbacks assume they can read compatsize bytes, so they need this extra check. Based on an earlier patch from Luxiao Xu.

Closer analysis of CI results history has revealed a dependency of the error on a few IGT tests, namely: - igt@api_intel_allocator@fork-simple-stress-signal, - igt@api_intel_allocator@two-level-inception-interruptible, - igt@gem_linear_blits@interruptible, - igt@prime_mmap_coherency@ioctl-errors, which invisibly trigger the issue, then exhibited with first driver unbind attempt. All of the above tests perform actions which are actively interrupted with signals. Further debugging has allowed to narrow that scope down to DRM_IOCTL_I915_GEM_EXECBUFFER2, and ring_context_alloc(), specific to ring submission, in particular. If successful then that function, or its execlists or GuC submission equivalent, is supposed to be called only once per GEM context engine, followed by raise of a flag that prevents the function from being called again. The function is expected to unwind its internal errors itself, so it may be safely called once more after it returns an error. In case of ring submission, the function first gets a reference to the engine's legacy timeline and then allocates a VMA. If the VMA allocation fails, e.g. when i915_vma_instance() called from inside is interrupted with a signal, then ring_context_alloc() fails, leaving the timeline held referenced. On next I915_GEM_EXECBUFFER2 IOCTL, another reference to the timeline is got, and only that last one is put on successful completion. As a consequence, the legacy timeline, with its underlying engine status page's VMA object, is still held and not released on driver unbind. Get the legacy timeline only after successful allocation of the context engine's VMA. v2: Add a note on other submission methods (Krzysztof Karas): Both execlists and GuC submission use lrc_alloc() which seems free from a similar issue. (cherry picked from commit cc43422b3cc79eacff4c5a8ba0d224688ca9dd4f)

net: usb: lan78xx: fix WARN in __netif_napi_del_locked on disconnect

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: usb: lan78xx: fix WARN in __netif_napi_del_locked on disconnect Remove redundant netif_napi_del() call from disconnect path. A WARN may be triggered in __netif_napi_del_locked() during USB device disconnect: WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 11 at net/core/dev.c:7417 __netif_napi_del_locked+0x2b4/0x350 This happens because netif_napi_del() is called in the disconnect path while NAPI is still enabled. However, it is not necessary to call netif_napi_del() explicitly, since unregister_netdev() will handle NAPI teardown automatically and safely. USB: serial: io_ti: fix heap overflow in build_i2c_fw_hdr()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: USB: serial: io_ti: fix heap overflow in build_i2c_fw_hdr() build_i2c_fw_hdr() allocates a fixed-size buffer of (16*1024 - 512) + sizeof(struct ti_i2c_firmware_rec) bytes, then copies le16_to_cpu(img_header->Length) bytes into it without validating that Length fits within the available space after the firmware record header. img_header->Length is a __le16 from the firmware file and can be up to 65535. check_fw_sanity() validates the total firmware size but not img_header->Length specifically. Fix by rejecting images where img_header->Length exceeds the available destination space.

tee: optee: prevent use-after-free when the client exits before the supplicant

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tee: optee: prevent use-after-free when the client exits before the supplicant Commit 70b0d6b0a199 ("tee: optee: Fix supplicant wait loop") made the client wait as killable so it can be interrupted during shutdown or after a supplicant crash. This changes the original lifetime expectations: the client task can now terminate while the supplicant is still processing its request. If the client exits first it removes the request from its queue and kfree()s it, while the request ID remains in supp->idr. A subsequent lookup on the supplicant path then dereferences freed memory, leading to a use-after-free. Serialise access to the request with supp->mutex: * Hold supp->mutex in optee_supp_recv() and optee_supp_send() while looking up and touching the request. * Let optee_supp_thrd_req() notice that the client has terminated and signal optee_supp_send() accordingly. With these changes the request cannot be freed while the supplicant still has a reference, eliminating the race.

drm/xe/eustall: Fix drm_dev_put called before stream disable in close

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/xe/eustall: Fix drm_dev_put called before stream disable in close In xe_eu_stall_stream_close(), drm_dev_put() is called before the stream is disabled and its resources are freed. If this drops the last reference, the device structures could be freed while the subsequent cleanup code still accesses them, leading to a use-after-free. Fix this by moving drm_dev_put() after all device accesses are complete. This matches the ordering in xe_oa_release(). (cherry picked from commit 35aff528f7297e949e5e19c9cd7fd748cf1cf21c)

bpf: Free reuseport cBPF prog after RCU grace period.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Free reuseport cBPF prog after RCU grace period. Eulgyu Kim reported the splat below with a repro. [0] The repro sets up a UDP reuseport group with a cBPF prog and replaces it with a new one while another thread is sending a UDP packet to the group. The reuseport prog is freed by sk_reuseport_prog_free(). bpf_prog_put() is called for "e"BPF prog to destruct through multiple stages while cBPF prog is freed immediately by bpf_release_orig_filter() and bpf_prog_free(). If a reuseport prog is detached from the setsockopt() path (reuseport_attach_prog() or reuseport_detach_prog()), sk_reuseport_prog_free() is called without waiting for RCU readers to complete, resulting in various bugs. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netdev: fix double-free in netdev_nl_bind_rx_doit() Sashiko flags that genlmsg_reply() always consumes the skb. The error path calls nlmsg_free(rsp) so we can't jump directly to it. Let's not unbind, just propagate the error to the user. This is the typical way of handling genlmsg_reply() failures. They shouldn't happen unless user does something silly like calling the kernel with an already-full rcvbuf.

ipc: limit next_id allocation to the valid ID range

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipc: limit next_id allocation to the valid ID range The checkpoint/restore sysctl path can request the next SysV IPC id through ids->next_id. ipc_idr_alloc() currently forwards that request to idr_alloc() with an open-ended upper bound. If the valid tail of the SysV IPC id space is full, the allocation can spill beyond ipc_mni. The returned SysV IPC id still uses the normal index encoding, so later lookup and removal can target the wrong slot. This leaves the real IDR entry behind and breaks the IDR state for the object. The bug is in ipc_idr_alloc() in the checkpoint/restore path. 1. ids->next_id is passed to: idr_alloc(&ids->ipcs_idr, new, ipcid_to_idx(next_id), 0, ...) 2. The zero upper bound makes the allocation effectively open-ended. Once the valid SysV IPC tail is occupied, idr_alloc() can spill past ipc_mni and allocate an entry beyond the valid IPC id range. 3. The new object id is still encoded with the narrower SysV IPC index width: new->id = (new->seq << ipcmni_seq_shift()) + idx 4. Later removal goes through ipc_rmid(), which uses: ipcid_to_idx(ipcp->id) That truncates the real IDR index. An object actually stored at a high index can then be removed as if it lived at a low in-range index. 5. For shared memory, shm_destroy() frees the current object anyway, but the real high IDR slot is left behind as a dangling pointer. 6. A subsequent walk of /proc/sysvipc/shm reaches the stale IDR entry and dereferences freed memory. Prevent this by bounding the requested allocation to ipc_mni so the checkpoint/restore path fails once the valid range is exhausted.

futex: Drop CLONE_THREAD requirement for private default hash alloc

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: futex: Drop CLONE_THREAD requirement for private default hash alloc Currently need_futex_hash_allocate_default() depends on strict pthread semantics, abusing CLONE_THREAD. This breaks the non-concurrency assumptions when doing the mm->futex_ref pcpu allocations, leading to bugs[0] when sharing the mm in other ways; ie: BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in futex_hash_put ... where the +1 bias can end up on a percpu counter that mm->futex_ref no longer points at. Loosen the check to cover any CLONE_VM clone, except vfork(). Excluding vfork keeps the existing paths untouched (no overhead), and we can't race in the first place: either the parent is suspended and the child runs alone, or mm->futex_ref is already allocated from an earlier CLONE_VM.

When gb_operation_sync is called in the write file operations, its gets a freed connection as parameter and the kernel panics. The gb_connection_destroy cannot be moved out of the disconnect function, as the Greybus subsystem expect all connections belonging to a bundle to be destroyed when disconnect returns. To prevent this bug, use a rw lock to synchronize access between write and disconnect. This guarantees that the write function doesn't try to use a disconnected connection.

net/sched: taprio: fix use-after-free in advance_sched() on schedule switch

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/sched: taprio: fix use-after-free in advance_sched() on schedule switch In advance_sched(), when should_change_schedules() returns true, switch_schedules() is called to promote the admin schedule to oper. switch_schedules() queues the old oper schedule for RCU freeing via call_rcu(), but 'next' still points into an entry of the old oper schedule. The subsequent 'next->end_time = end_time' and rcu_assign_pointer(q->current_entry, next) are use-after-free. Fix this by selecting 'next' from the new oper schedule immediately after switch_schedules(), and using its pre-calculated end_time. setup_first_end_time() sets the first entry's end_time to base_time + interval when the schedule is installed, so the value is already correct. The deleted 'end_time = sched_base_time(admin)' assignment was also harmful independently: it would overwrite the new first entry's pre-calculated end_time with just base_time.

io_uring/poll: fix signed comparison in io_poll_get_ownership()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: io_uring/poll: fix signed comparison in io_poll_get_ownership() io_poll_get_ownership() uses a signed comparison to check whether poll_refs has reached the threshold for the slowpath: if (unlikely(atomic_read(&req->poll_refs) >= IO_POLL_REF_BIAS)) atomic_read() returns int (signed). When IO_POLL_CANCEL_FLAG (BIT(31)) is set in poll_refs, the value becomes negative in signed arithmetic, so the >= 128 comparison always evaluates to false and the slowpath is never taken. Fix this by casting the atomic_read() result to unsigned int before the comparison, so that the cancel flag is treated as a large positive value and correctly triggers the slowpath.

An out-of-bounds (OOB) memory access flaw was found in x25_bind in net/x25/af_x25.c in the Linux kernel version v5.12-rc5. A bounds check failure allows a local attacker with a user account on the system to gain access to out-of-bounds memory, leading to a system crash or a leak of internal kernel information. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to confidentiality, integrity, as well as system availability.

A flaw was found in the Linux kernel’s implementation of MIDI, where an attacker with a local account and the permissions to issue ioctl commands to midi devices could trigger a use-after-free issue. A write to this specific memory while freed and before use causes the flow of execution to change and possibly allow for memory corruption or privilege escalation. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to confidentiality, integrity, as well as system availability.

parport: Fix race between port and client registration

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: parport: Fix race between port and client registration The parport subsystem registers port devices before they are fully initialised, resulting in a race condition where client drivers such as lp can attach to ports that are not completely initialised or even being torn down. When the port and client drivers are built as modules and loaded around the same time during boot, this occasionally results in a crash. I was able to make this happen reliably in a VM with a PC-style parallel port by patching parport_pc to fail probing: > --- a/drivers/parport/parport_pc.c > +++ b/drivers/parport/parport_pc.c > @@ -2069,7 +2069,7 @@ static struct parport *__parport_pc_probe_port(unsigned long int base, > if (!p) > goto out3; > > - base_res = request_region(base, 3, p->name); > + base_res = NULL; > if (!base_res) > goto out4; > and then running: while true; do modprobe lp & modprobe parport_pc wait rmmod lp parport_pc done for a few seconds. In the long term I think port registration should be changed to put the call to device_add() inside parport_announce_port(), but since the latter currently cannot fail this will require changing all port drivers. For now, add a flag to indicate whether a port has been "announced" and only try to attach client drivers to ports when the flag is set.

virtiofs: fix UAF on submount umount

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: virtiofs: fix UAF on submount umount iput() called from fuse_release_end() can Oops if the super block has already been destroyed. Normally this is prevented by waiting for num_waiting to go down to zero before commencing with super block shutdown. This only works, however, for the last submount instance, as the wait counter is per connection, not per superblock. Revert to using synchronous release requests for the auto_submounts case, which is virtiofs only at this time.

netfilter: nft_ct: bail out on template ct in get eval

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: nft_ct: bail out on template ct in get eval I noticed this issue while looking at a historic syzbot report [1]. A rule like the one below is enough to trigger the bug: table ip t { chain pre { type filter hook prerouting priority raw; ct zone set 1 ct original saddr 1.2.3.4 accept } } The first expression attaches a per-cpu template ct via nft_ct_set_zone_eval() (nf_ct_tmpl_alloc -> kzalloc, tuple is all zero, nf_ct_l3num(ct) == 0). The next expression then calls nft_ct_get_eval() on the same skb, treats the template as a real ct and hits the 16-byte memcpy path. With dreg at NFT_REG32_15 this overflows past struct nft_regs on the kernel stack; with smaller dreg values it silently clobbers adjacent registers. Reject template ct at the eval entry and in nft_ct_get_fast_eval(), mirroring the check nft_ct_set_eval() already has. Additionally, bound the address copy in NFT_CT_SRC / NFT_CT_DST by priv->len instead of by nf_ct_l3num(ct): nf_ct_get_tuple() zeroes the tuple before pkt_to_tuple() fills in only the protocol-relevant leading bytes, so the trailing bytes of tuple->{src,dst}.u3.all are well-defined zero. priv->len is validated at rule load, so the copy size is now bounded by the destination register rather than by an untrusted field on the conntrack. bpf: Use RCU-safe iteration in dev_map_redirect_multi() SKB path

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Use RCU-safe iteration in dev_map_redirect_multi() SKB path The DEVMAP_HASH branch in dev_map_redirect_multi() uses hlist_for_each_entry_safe() to iterate hash buckets, but this function runs under RCU protection (called from xdp_do_generic_redirect_map() in softirq context). Concurrent writers (__dev_map_hash_update_elem, dev_map_hash_delete_elem) modify the list using RCU primitives (hlist_add_head_rcu, hlist_del_rcu). hlist_for_each_entry_safe() performs plain pointer dereferences without rcu_dereference(), missing the acquire barrier needed to pair with writers' rcu_assign_pointer(). On weakly-ordered architectures (ARM64, POWER), a reader can observe a partially-constructed node. It also defeats CONFIG_PROVE_RCU lockdep validation and KCSAN data-race detection. Replace with hlist_for_each_entry_rcu() using rcu_read_lock_bh_held() as the lockdep condition, consistent with the rcu_dereference_check() used in the DEVMAP (non-hash) branch of the same functions. Also fix the same incorrect lockdep_is_held(&dtab->index_lock) condition in dev_map_enqueue_multi(), where the lock is not held either.

mm/vma: do not try to unmap a VMA if mmap_prepare() invoked from mmap()

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/vma: do not try to unmap a VMA if mmap_prepare() invoked from mmap() The mmap_prepare hook functionality includes the ability to invoke mmap_prepare() from the mmap() hook of existing 'stacked' drivers, that is ones which are capable of calling the mmap hooks of other drivers/file systems (e.g. overlayfs, shm). As part of the mmap_prepare action functionality, we deal with errors by unmapping the VMA should one arise. This works in the usual mmap_prepare case, as we invoke this action at the last moment, when the VMA is established in the maple tree. However, the mmap() hook passes a not-fully-established VMA pointer to the caller (which is the motivation behind the mmap_prepare() work), which is detached. So attempting to unmap a VMA in this state will be problematic, with the most obvious symptom being a warning in vma_mark_detached(), because the VMA is already detached. It's also unncessary - the mmap() handler will clean up the VMA on error. So to fix this issue, this patch propagates whether or not an mmap action is being completed via the compatibility layer or directly. If the former, then we do not attempt VMA cleanup, if the latter, then we do. This patch also updates the userland VMA tests to reflect the change.

netfilter: nf_queue: hold bridge skb->dev while queued

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: nf_queue: hold bridge skb->dev while queued br_pass_frame_up() rewrites skb->dev from the ingress port to the bridge master before queueing bridge LOCAL_IN packets. NFQUEUE only holds references on state.in/out and bridge physdevs, so a queued bridge packet can retain a freed bridge master in skb->dev until reinjection. When the verdict is reinjected later, br_netif_receive_skb() re-enters the receive path with skb->dev still pointing at the freed bridge master, triggering a use-after-free. Store skb->dev in the queue entry, hold a reference on it for the queue lifetime, and use the saved device when dropping queued packets during NETDEV_DOWN handling.
