Pterodactyl has a database resource limit bypass via race condition in Client API

Pterodactyl is a free, open-source game server management panel. Prior to version 1.12.3, the Pterodactyl Client API has a logic flaw that lets users bypass their assigned limits for database allocations. This happens because the database locking mechanism used in the controllers is totally broken and doesn't actually lock anything. Version 1.12.3 patches the issue.

CtrlPanel: Missing Authorization on Admin Write Endpoints Allows RBAC Bypass

CtrlPanel is open-source billing software for hosting providers. Versions 1.1.1 and prior contains a broken access control vulnerability where multiple admin controllers enforce permission checks on form display methods but omit equivalent checks on the corresponding write methods, allowing any authenticated user to bypass RBAC via direct POST/PATCH requests. Controllers missing checks on write methods store() and update() include ApplicationApiController (admin.api.write), CouponController (admin.coupons.write), PartnerController (admin.partners.write), ShopProductController (admin.store.write), UsefulLinkController (admin.useful_links.write), and VoucherController (admin.voucher.write); ProductController (admin.products.edit), ServerController (write/change_owner/change_identifier), and UserController (write/change_email/change_credits/change_username/change_password/change_role/change_referral/change_ptero/change_serverlimit) are missing checks on update() only, and ActivityLogController exposed empty stub store()/update() methods that silently accepted any request. An authenticated attacker without admin write privileges can issue API credentials, generate unlimited coupons and vouchers, assign arbitrary partner commission and discount rates, alter shop product pricing and limits, reassign server ownership or identifiers, and modify user accounts including roles, credits, passwords, and linked Pterodactyl IDs to achieve full privilege escalation, as well as abuse logBackIn() without the login_as permission to interfere with admin impersonation sessions. This issue has been fixed in version 1.2.0.

CtrlPanel: Stored XSS in Admin Role Management via Unescaped DataTable HTML Output

CtrlPanel is open-source billing software for hosting providers. Versions 1.1.1 and prior contain a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability exists in the admin role management interface. In app/Http/Controllers/Admin/RoleController.php, the datatable() method interpolates $role->name and $role->color directly into a <span> element's HTML and style attribute without sanitization, and the chained .rawColumns(['actions', 'name']) call instructs DataTables to render the name column as raw HTML, bypassing automatic output escaping. An admin with role creation or edit permissions can inject a payload such as <img src=x onerror="alert('XSS_POC')"> into the name or color fields, which is persisted to the database and executes in the browser of every admin who loads the /admin/roles page. This enables session hijacking via cookie theft, credential harvesting through fake login prompts or keyloggers, lateral privilege escalation by performing admin actions on behalf of victims, and a persistent backdoor that re-executes on every page load until the malicious role record is removed. This issue has been resolved in version 1.2.0.

CtrlPanel: Stored XSS in Ticket Reply Notifications Allows Session Hijacking

CtrlPanel is open-source billing software for hosting providers. Versions 1.1.1 and prior contain a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the ticket reply notification system. Unsanitized reply content ($newmessage) is stored directly in database notification payloads and later rendered unescaped via Blade's {!! !!} syntax in the recipient's browser. The flaw exists in both App\Notifications\Ticket\Admin\AdminReplyNotification (triggered when a user replies, targeting admins) and App\Notifications\Ticket\User\ReplyNotification (triggered when an admin replies, targeting users), allowing arbitrary JavaScript execution in the victim's session context. A low-privileged attacker can exploit this to hijack admin sessions, harvest credentials via fake login prompts or keyloggers, and escalate privileges by performing administrative actions on the victim's behalf. The reverse path also enables a malicious or compromised admin to target regular users in the same manner. This issue has been fixed in version 1.2.0.

CtrlPanel: Unauthenticated RCE using installer script

CtrlPanel is open-source billing software for hosting providers. In versions 1.1.1 and prior, the web-based installer (public/installer/index.php) is vulnerable to unauthenticated Remote Code Execution (RCE) because it performs the install.lock check only after including and executing form handler files, leaving installer endpoints reachable on already-installed instances. The handlers also pass unsanitized user input directly into shell commands, allowing an attacker to submit crafted requests that execute arbitrary commands on the server. The vulnerability stems from two combined weaknesses: (1) premature form handler execution before the lock file gate, and (2) unsafe use of user input in shell command construction. This issue is reported to be actively exploited in the wild. The issue has been fixed in version 1.2.0.

CtrlPanel has Missing Authentication Checks in Datatable Admin Endpoints

CtrlPanel is open-source billing software for hosting providers. In versions 1.1.1 and prior, multiple admin controllers expose DataTable endpoints without authorization checks, allowing any authenticated user to access sensitive administrative data that should be restricted to administrators only. The affected admin controllers define datatable() methods that are reachable via GET requests but lack any permission or role verification. Because the routes fall under the /admin/ prefix, operators may assume they are protected - however, the middleware applied to this route group does not enforce admin-level authorization on these specific endpoints. As a result, any authenticated user (regardless of role) can query these endpoints and receive paginated JSON responses containing sensitive records. Exploitation can result in enumeration of user PII, payment and transaction records, active voucher and coupon codes, role and permission structure, server ownership mappings and support ticket contents. This issue has been fixed in version 1.2.0.

CtrlPanel: Authenticated Remote Code Execution via Dynamic Class Instantiation in SettingsController.php

CtrlPanel is open-source billing software for hosting providers. In versions 1.1.1 and prior, the admin settings update endpoint accepted a fully qualified class name directly from user-supplied request input and used it for dynamic static method calls and object instantiation without any allowlist validation, allowing for authenticated Remote Code Execution. An authenticated admin-level user could supply an arbitrary class name available in the Composer autoloader, potentially triggering unintended constructor or magic method execution. The update() method reads settings_class directly from the HTTP request and passed it to new $settings_class() and $settings_class::getValidations() without verifying that the provided value corresponds to a legitimate settings class: Because PHP resolves class names against the Composer autoloader at runtime, any autoloadable class in the application or its dependencies could be instantiated. Depending on the classes available in the dependency tree, this can trigger unintended side effects through constructors or magic methods (__construct, __toString, __wakeup), following a PHP object injection / gadget chain pattern. Convoy: JWT Signature Verification Bypass Allows Authentication as Arbitrary Users

Convoy is a KVM server management panel for hosting businesses. From version 3.9.0-beta to before version 4.5.1, the JWTService::decode() method did not verify the cryptographic signature of JWT tokens. While the method configured a symmetric HMAC-SHA256 signer via lcobucci/jwt, it only validated time-based claims (exp, nbf, iat) using the StrictValidAt constraint. The SignedWith constraint was not included in the validation step. This means an attacker could forge or tamper with JWT token payloads — such as modifying the user_uuid claim — and the token would be accepted as valid, as long as the time-based claims were satisfied. This directly impacts the SSO authentication flow (LoginController::authorizeToken), allowing an attacker to authenticate as any user by crafting a token with an arbitrary user_uuid. This issue has been patched in version 4.5.1.

Reviactyl: OAuth account takeover via auto-linking

Reviactyl is an open-source game server management panel built using Laravel, React, FilamentPHP, Vite, and Go. From version 26.2.0-beta.1 to before version 26.2.0-beta.5, a vulnerability in the OAuth authentication flow allowed automatic linking of social accounts based solely on matching email addresses. An attacker could create or control a social account (e.g., Google, GitHub, Discord) using a victim’s email address and gain full access to the victim's account without knowing their password. This results in a full account takeover with no prior authentication required. This issue has been patched in version 26.2.0-beta.5.

Pterodactyl Panel Allows Cross-Node Server Configuration Disclosure via Remote API Missing Authorization

Wings is the server control plane for Pterodactyl, a free, open-source game server management panel. Prior to version 1.12.1, a missing authorization check in multiple controllers allows any user with access to a node secret token to fetch information about any server on a Pterodactyl instance, even if that server is associated with a different node. This issue stems from missing logic to verify that the node requesting server data is the same node that the server is associated with. Any authenticated Wings node can retrieve server installation scripts (potentially containing secret values) and manipulate the installation status of servers belonging to other nodes. Wings nodes may also manipulate the transfer status of servers belonging to other nodes. This vulnerability requires a user to acquire a secret access token for a node. Unless a user gains access to a Wings secret access token they would not be able to access any of these vulnerable endpoints, as every endpoint requires a valid node access token. A single compromised Wings node daemon token (stored in plaintext at `/etc/pterodactyl/config.yml`) grants access to sensitive configuration data of every server on the panel, rather than only to servers that the node has access to. An attacker can use this information to move laterally through the system, send excessive notifications, destroy server data on other nodes, and otherwise exfiltrate secrets that they should not have access to with only a node token. Additionally, triggering a false transfer success causes the panel to delete the server from the source node, resulting in permanent data loss. Users should upgrade to version 1.12.1 to receive a fix.

Pterodactyl Wings's websocket endpoints have no visible rate limits or monitoring, allowing for DOS attacks under certain circumstances

Wings is the server control plane for Pterodactyl, a free, open-source game server management panel. Prior to version 1.12.0, websockets within wings lack proper rate limiting and throttling. As a result a malicious user can open a large number of connections and then request data through these sockets, causing an excessive volume of data over the network and overloading the host system memory and cpu. Additionally, there is not a limit applied to the total size of messages being sent or received, allowing a malicious user to open thousands of websocket connections and then send massive volumes of information over the socket, overloading the host network, and causing increased CPU and memory load within Wings. Version 1.12.0 patches the issue.

Pterodactyl's improper resource locking allows raced queries to create more resources than alloted

Pterodactyl is a free, open-source game server management panel. Pterodactyl implements rate limits that are applied to the total number of resources (e.g. databases, port allocations, or backups) that can exist for an individual server. These resource limits are applied on a per-server basis, and validated during the request cycle. However, in versions prior to 1.12.0, it is possible for a malicious user to send a massive volume of requests at the same time that would create more resources than the server is allotted. This is because the validation occurs early in the request cycle and does not lock the target resource while it is processing. As a result sending a large volume of requests at the same time would lead all of those requests to validate as not using any of the target resources, and then all creating the resources at the same time. As a result a server would be able to create more databases, allocations, or backups than configured. A malicious user is able to deny resources to other users on the system, and may be able to excessively consume the limited allocations for a node, or fill up backup space faster than is allowed by the system. Version 1.12.0 fixes the issue.

Pterodactyl is a free, open-source game server management panel. Versions 1.11.11 and below allow TOTP to be used multiple times during its validity window. Users with 2FA enabled are prompted to enter a token during sign-in, and afterward it is not sufficiently marked as used in the system. This allows an attacker who intercepts that token to use it in addition to a known username/password during the 60-second token validity window. The attacker must have intercepted a valid 2FA token (for example, during a screen share). This issue is fixed in version 1.12.0.

Pterodactyl does not revoke SFTP access when server is deleted or permissions reduced

Pterodactyl is a free, open-source game server management panel. Versions 1.11.11 and below do not revoke active SFTP connections when a user is removed from a server instance or has their permissions changes with respect to file access over SFTP. This allows a user that was already connected to SFTP to remain connected and access files even after their permissions are revoked. A user must have been connected to SFTP at the time of their permissions being revoked in order for this vulnerability to be exploited. This issue is fixed in version 1.12.0.

RatPanel can perform remote command execution without authorization

RatPanel is a server operation and maintenance management panel. In versions 2.3.19 through 2.5.5, when an attacker obtains the backend login path of RatPanel (including but not limited to weak default paths, brute-force cracking, etc.), they can execute system commands or take over hosts managed by the panel without logging in. In addition to this remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability, the flawed code also leads to unauthorized access. RatPanel uses the CleanPath middleware provided by github.com/go-chi/chi package to clean URLs, but but the middleware does not process r.URL.Path, which can cause the paths to be misinterpreted. This is fixed in version 2.5.6.

Convey Panel Directory Traversal in LocaleController leading to Remote Code Execution

Convoy is a KVM server management panel for hosting businesses. In versions 3.9.0-rc3 to before 4.4.1, there is a directory traversal vulnerability in the LocaleController component of Performave Convoy. An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending a specially crafted HTTP request with malicious locale and namespace parameters. This allows the attacker to include and execute arbitrary PHP files on the server. This issue has been patched in version 4.4.1. A temporary workaround involves implementing strict Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules to incoming requests targeting the vulnerable endpoints.

Pterodactyl Panel Allows Unauthenticated Arbitrary Remote Code Execution

Pterodactyl is a free, open-source game server management panel. Prior to version 1.11.11, using the /locales/locale.json with the locale and namespace query parameters, a malicious actor is able to execute arbitrary code without being authenticated. With the ability to execute arbitrary code it could be used to gain access to the Panel's server, read credentials from the Panel's config, extract sensitive information from the database, access files of servers managed by the panel, etc. This issue has been patched in version 1.11.11. There are no software workarounds for this vulnerability, but use of an external Web Application Firewall (WAF) could help mitigate this attack.

Pterodactyl Panel has plain-text logging of user passwords when two-factor authentication is disabled

Pterodactyl is a free, open-source game server management panel. When a user disables two-factor authentication via the Panel, a `DELETE` request with their current password in a query parameter will be sent. While query parameters are encrypted when using TLS, many webservers (including ones officially documented for use with Pterodactyl) will log query parameters in plain-text, storing a user's password in plain text. Prior to version 1.11.8, if a malicious user obtains access to these logs they could potentially authenticate against a user's account; assuming they are able to discover the account's email address or username separately. This problem has been patched in version 1.11.8. There are no workarounds at this time. There is not a direct vulnerability within the software as it relates to logs generated by intermediate components such as web servers or Layer 7 proxies. Updating to `v1.11.8` or adding the linked patch manually are the only ways to avoid this problem. As this vulnerability relates to historical logging of sensitive data, users who have ever disabled 2FA on a Panel (self-hosted or operated by a company) should change their passwords and consider enabling 2FA if it was left disabled. While it's unlikely that their account swill be compromised by this vulnerability, it's not impossible. Panel administrators should consider clearing any access logs that may contain sensitive data.

Multiple cross site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in the admin area of Pterodactyl panel

Pterodactyl is a free, open-source game server management panel built with PHP, React, and Go. Importing a malicious egg or gaining access to wings instance could lead to cross site scripting (XSS) on the panel, which could be used to gain an administrator account on the panel. Specifically, the following things are impacted: Egg Docker images and Egg variables: Name, Environment variable, Default value, Description, Validation rules. Additionally, certain fields would reflect malicious input, but it would require the user knowingly entering such input to have an impact. To iterate, this would require an administrator to perform actions and can't be triggered by a normal panel user. This issue has has been addressed in version 1.11.6 and users are advised to upgrade. No workaround is available other than updating to the latest version of the panel.

Cross-Site Request Forgery allowing sending of test emails and generation of node auto-deployment keys

Pterodactyl is an open-source game server management panel built with PHP 7, React, and Go. Due to improperly configured CSRF protections on two routes, a malicious user could execute a CSRF-based attack against the following endpoints: Sending a test email and Generating a node auto-deployment token. At no point would any data be exposed to the malicious user, this would simply trigger email spam to an administrative user, or generate a single auto-deployment token unexpectedly. This token is not revealed to the malicious user, it is simply created unexpectedly in the system. This has been addressed in release `1.6.6`. Users may optionally manually apply the fixes released in v1.6.6 to patch their own systems.

Pterodactyl is an open-source game server management panel built with PHP 7, React, and Go. In affected versions of Pterodactyl a malicious user can trigger a user logout if a signed in user visits a malicious website that makes a request to the Panel's sign-out endpoint. This requires a targeted attack against a specific Panel instance, and serves only to sign a user out. **No user details are leaked, nor is any user data affected, this is simply an annoyance at worst.** This is fixed in version 1.6.3.

Authentication bypass in Pterodactyl

Pterodactyl is an open-source game server management panel built with PHP 7, React, and Go. A malicious user can modify the contents of a `confirmation_token` input during the two-factor authentication process to reference a cache value not associated with the login attempt. In rare cases this can allow a malicious actor to authenticate as a random user in the Panel. The malicious user must target an account with two-factor authentication enabled, and then must provide a correct two-factor authentication token before being authenticated as that user. Due to a validation flaw in the logic handling user authentication during the two-factor authentication process a malicious user can trick the system into loading credentials for an arbitrary user by modifying the token sent to the server. This authentication flaw is present in the `LoginCheckpointController@__invoke` method which handles two-factor authentication for a user. This controller looks for a request input parameter called `confirmation_token` which is expected to be a 64 character random alpha-numeric string that references a value within the Panel's cache containing a `user_id` value. This value is then used to fetch the user that attempted to login, and lookup their two-factor authentication token. Due to the design of this system, any element in the cache that contains only digits could be referenced by a malicious user, and whatever value is stored at that position would be used as the `user_id`. There are a few different areas of the Panel that store values into the cache that are integers, and a user who determines what those cache keys are could pass one of those keys which would cause this code pathway to reference an arbitrary user. At its heart this is a high-risk login bypass vulnerability. However, there are a few additional conditions that must be met in order for this to be successfully executed, notably: 1.) The account referenced by the malicious cache key must have two-factor authentication enabled. An account without two-factor authentication would cause an exception to be triggered by the authentication logic, thusly exiting this authentication flow. 2.) Even if the malicious user is able to reference a valid cache key that references a valid user account with two-factor authentication, they must provide a valid two-factor authentication token. However, due to the design of this endpoint once a valid user account is found with two-factor authentication enabled there is no rate-limiting present, thusly allowing an attacker to brute force combinations until successful. This leads to a third condition that must be met: 3.) For the duration of this attack sequence the cache key being referenced must continue to exist with a valid `user_id` value. Depending on the specific key being used for this attack, this value may disappear quickly, or be changed by other random user interactions on the Panel, outside the control of the attacker. In order to mitigate this vulnerability the underlying authentication logic was changed to use an encrypted session store that the user is therefore unable to control the value of. This completely removed the use of a user-controlled value being used. In addition, the code was audited to ensure this type of vulnerability is not present elsewhere.

PHP Phar archives could be uploaded and executed in Kirby

Kirby is a CMS. In Kirby CMS (getkirby/cms) before version 3.4.5, and Kirby Panel before version 2.5.14 , an editor with full access to the Kirby Panel can upload a PHP .phar file and execute it on the server. This vulnerability is critical if you might have potential attackers in your group of authenticated Panel users, as they can gain access to the server with such a Phar file. Visitors without Panel access *cannot* use this attack vector. The problem has been patched in Kirby 2.5.14 and Kirby 3.4.5. Please update to one of these or a later version to fix the vulnerability. Note: Kirby 2 reaches end of life on December 31, 2020. We therefore recommend to upgrade your Kirby 2 sites to Kirby 3. If you cannot upgrade, we still recommend to update to Kirby 2.5.14.

.dev domains treated as local in Kirby

Kirby is a CMS. In Kirby CMS (getkirby/cms) before version 3.3.6, and Kirby Panel before version 2.5.14 there is a vulnerability in which the admin panel may be accessed if hosted on a .dev domain. In order to protect new installations on public servers that don't have an admin account for the Panel yet, we block account registration there by default. This is a security feature, which we implemented years ago in Kirby 2. It helps to avoid that you forget registering your first admin account on a public server. In this case – without our security block – someone else might theoretically be able to find your site, find out it's running on Kirby, find the Panel and then register the account first. It's an unlikely situation, but it's still a certain risk. To be able to register the first Panel account on a public server, you have to enforce the installer via a config setting. This helps to push all users to the best practice of registering your first Panel account on your local machine and upload it together with the rest of the site. This installation block implementation in Kirby versions before 3.3.6 still assumed that .dev domains are local domains, which is no longer true. In the meantime, those domains became publicly available. This means that our installation block is no longer working as expected if you use a .dev domain for your Kirby site. Additionally the local installation check may also fail if your site is behind a reverse proxy. You are only affected if you use a .dev domain or your site is behind a reverse proxy and you have not yet registered your first Panel account on the public server and someone finds your site and tries to login at `yourdomain.dev/panel` before you register your first account. You are not affected if you have already created one or multiple Panel accounts (no matter if on a .dev domain or behind a reverse proxy). The problem has been patched in Kirby 3.3.6. Please upgrade to this or a later version to fix the vulnerability.
